Been running a game for over a year, the party just this week discovered they had been victims of manipulation by the big bad the ENTIRE game.
They get sent off to war as recruits? HE wrote up the declaration of war
They make themselves out to be heroes?
They get sent to recover a big war ending weapon. If they fail, they die. If they succeed, he gets the gun
Then, they get pressured into setting off the big bad gun; it kills a lot of Innocents.
HE uses the opportunity to usurp the throne and cause a revolt! And now they are either pretenders who jump HIS claim of defeating the enemy, or they're the big evil dicks who killed all the Innocents if they can prove they did it!
The party are LIVID

I did have a plan go off once, but it was just a simple situation, a bunch of guys in a building they have what I want and me and my two friends do it well.
doors are booby trapped, heads are sniped and the infiltrator slits a throat and got out, it was fun.
