I see yoy like Red. I also like Red. What's your list for red Tron, why do you play it, and what do you think the advantage is over GB Tron?

I like red Tron because it gives me access to Blood Moon.

It's basically just a bad tron deck, but it's using Blasphemous Act, burn doublers and Stuffy Doll to meme people out of the game.

If you ask for actual advantages, it's probably better against fast aggro decks that aren't death's shadow. Which isn't horrible, since that's how you usually beat Tron.
>>
>>54105390
That's a spicy meme, friend. I'll try it out next Friday.

Oh and if you can't find a Doll, just Banefire them for 33 and don't give a fuck about Counterspells.

>top decks are Grixis Shadow and Eldrazi Tron

Does anyone else feel like Selesnya Charm/Selesnya decks could be well positioned as an anti-meta deck? The 5 or higher power is easily met by the Eldrazi/Death's Shadow. If DS tries to to target you with discard, the Charm can make a 2/2 vigilance blocker in response, leaving your hand full of nonland cards like Loxodon Smiter. Similarly, if a Reality Smasher touches down, you can Selesnya Charm/Path to Exile to remove it, then discard a Smiter/Wilt-Leaf to the effect and have it come into play. You've got Wrath of God incase you come up against go-wide strategies like Merfolk and Elves, and the Charm lets your creatures punch through with trample. White gives you access to probably the best side-board silver bullets in the game too, things like Rule of Law to disrupt Storm, Stony Silence against Affinity, and Rest in Peace against Dredge. Plus cards like Suppression Field are just miserable for decks using a lot of Fetchlands or Planeswalkers.

Idk, it just seems pretty versatile, which we've seen can be valuable in a spell like Blessed Alliance, yet no deck is taking advantage of it (or any Green/White decks being played at all).
>>
>>54105572
But how do you win? Just hating everyone else out? Make a bunch of tokens?
>>
>>54105572
Best answer to grixis death shadow is protection from black, which pretty much only white gets. Think about it, how does gds deal with protection from black if u resolve it
>>
>>54105641
They discard it from your hand before you can resolve it.
>>
>>54105637

Hitting them in the face with a 4/4 seems like a solid plan, idk. I wouldn't got wide with Selesnya tokens, it seems like B/W does a better job on the token front (particularly with Sorin) and it hobbles White's ability to Wrath of God effectively.
>>
>>54105022
Is there any good temur decks in modern?
>>
>>54105673
Also, how do you deal with E. Tron's mainboard chalices?
>>
>>54105702
Most of his beaters are cmc 3 or 4, so I don't think he gets hit by chalice too hard.
>>
>>54105657
Leyline of sanctity. Oh no, shields up
>>
>>54105702
Artifact/enchantment destruction is way in green and white. Plus charm and path means they need two chalices out.
>>

>>
Why is the crap thread getting pushed.
>>
I've been running Jund Delerium. Words well enough
>>
>>54106250
It's debatable

Both have their perks
>>
>>54105022

I main Rakdos Tempo Control. Basically blow everything up and become a huge threat.

My favorite deck is my Tribal Rakdos Minotaurs, aka my Moo-Moo deck. My group fucking hates it with a passion.

>Felhide Petrifier + Rageblood Shaman + Neheb, the Worthy = Deathtouch / Trample / +1/+1 / Firststrike / +2/+0

>Lord of Shatterskull Pass + Felhide + Lvl 6 = Swing for boardwipe

>Anaba Shaman + Felhide = (M)(>): Destroy target creature

>Kragma Warcaller + Neheb the Worthy = +4/+0 and Haste and Firststrike

Though Mogis is not a "Minotaur", I run two of him because, c'mon he's a fucking Minotaur.

Also run some Dreadbore, Terminate, and Unlicensed Disintegration for extra removal. I have 4x Darksteel Citadel and 2x Rakdos Signets as artifacts for UD to trigger off of.

Scry with Temple of Malice, and gain life through Whip of Erebos.

I've beat the fuck out of Elf decks with it and have stomped out 34 damage with just four creatures before. Most I've swung with recently was 84 with 9 creatures.

Than, the icing on the cake... Savage Beating. Sweet, sweet Double Strike + 2nd Combat Phase. This also re-triggers Kragma and Neheb, as they are once again attacking and the turn has not ended. So slap an additional +2/+0 for each one of them onto everything again.
>>
>>54107612
this sounds like kitchen table jank 2bh
>>
>>54107637

Oh, it very much is ;)

It was one of the first Tribal decks I wanted to build but it kept falling short. Kaladesh / Amonkhet really tied it together with UD and Neheb.
>>
>>54106034
>rug delver

RUG delver crashes and burns in the wrong hands but holds together nicely if the pilot isn't timmy playing his big fat goyfs with giant numbers instead of sitting on counterspells like a proper tempo player does

List doesn't matter. Just have a Nest of Scarabs out, then cast Black Sun's Zenith for a larger amount. For example if there is 3 creatures on the battlefield and you cast BSZ putting 5 counters on each creature, you get 15 scarabs. I just cast it again afterward :D
>>

>"X isn't good against this deck because they can just thoughtseize it"

By that logic even a card that said "2W: Search target opponents deck a choose a card named "Death's Shadow" if you do that player loses the game" wouldn't be good against Death's Shadow because they could force you to discard it.

It's like an even more retarded version of "dies to removal"
>>
Anyone who plays Storm here?
Since I've main decked some apostles blessing to get 0 mana protection from single removal spells the deck seems to win consistently enough against most meta decks, but the few people who play uw make the match up seem almost impossible
Echoing Truth distrupts shit like rule of law, rest in peace and the such, but the abundance of cheap counterspells make it too fucking hard to combo off, expecially since spell snare is a thing and half the deck has 2 mana spells
I already side in dispels and spell snares, have no idea what else to do
Any suggestions?

There's nothing you can bring in without watering down your combo, and your opponent still has answers to anything you could bring it. Hope of Ghirapur is great and all but it eats the Paths your opponent left in anyway. Pact of Negation is arguably your best option but it's a dead card elsewhere.
>>
>>54109146
How do you beat Grixis Shadow?

I'd like to play UR Storm, but in my testing, it seems a pretty rough matchup.
>>
>>54109223
-UR Storm
-Possibility Storm
-UR Delver

Don't know if they're good, especially with Death Shadow Grixis making the last one practically obsolete at the moment. Possibility Storm is hilarious because of how you can cast 0 for Emrakul as early as turn 3 with the nuts.

>>
>>54111927
Vexing Devil is only good in Legacy because of Reanimate. Maybe now he'll finally shine in Modern?
>>
>>54112483
The thing is, you're intrinsically looking for a 2cmc card that's busted when reanimated, when such creatures are simply hardcastable.
The card cheats on one mana, you'll want to find stuff like Sakura that selfsacrifice or things that are otherwise hard to hardcast on 2 like Serra Ascendant.
>>
>>54112483

>Bob and Goyf considered not good anymore
>still cost an arm and a leg each

Price Memory is a hell of a thing.
>>
>>54111016
I'm not going to play it.

Exactly what do you plan on cutting for it? That's the first question you have to answer.

The second is that sometimes you'll get to cast a "free" 4/4 but most of the time you're cycling on end-step because you have to bluff the Outburst or have a Beast Within and you're able to cast this thing during their turn. If I were to cast this on my own turn the opponent gets free reign to hand-hate my hand or gets a turn to develop their board/strategy.

I don't play any 2-mana cyclers anymore, they're just too slow for the deck. And that's the worst case scenario here, that you have to cycle thing. If I wanted to cycle for 2 I would play Archfiend and I still don't want to play it.

I could be convinced that a T1 4/4 after cycling two Street Wraiths would be awesome, but again, I want to ask, what card are you going to cut for that?
>>
>>54112705
Its unlikely, but I'll eat my hat if it does.
I actually almost got wrecked by a BR suicide burn build this morning, but I was playing fish with the full playset of sea's claim and spreading seas, so on turn 5 I completely mana fucked the guy and proceeded to beat him to death with a fist full of lords
>>
>>54113029
He's talking about them in terms of a reanimation target, not in a vacuum. Goyf is still the best green creature around. Bob has always been kind of meh, just an okay Necropotence replacement for Modern. But now that everyone's running around literally killing themselves to play Death's Shadow they can't really afford to keep him around.
>>
Why aren't people playing Jeskai Saheeli more?

>>
>>54113331
Because they all believed the no-control-allowed meme.
>>
>>54113109
Honestly my meta is way too fast for beast within, its actually going to a sideboard slot now, and probably getting the boot.
Archfiend of Ifnir and Twisted abominations are always good for me, no problem ive run into with those.
As for what i'm getting rid of, i already got 3-4 cards i can swap for something better in a heartbeat.
Btw my meta is affinity, elves, devoted vizieer, gds, dredge, grishoalbrand, storm, eldrazi tron, bant eldrazi, dnt, junk/jund midrange and some other lesser things.
Usually get top 4, or win in my fnms.

American Control has been a deck since the inception of Modern. The fact that the Saheeli combo exists is just another win condition for the deck. The deck structure hasn't changed; only its win conditions. You can win with Saheeli, Ajani Vengeant, Sun Titans, Resto Angel, whatever, the deck is still the same.

It's always been an okay but not bad deck. It's always been there and most people know the deck is not that great no matter the win condition. Nevertheless it's still a solid and traditional Control deck if you want to play a pure Control deck.

>>54113427
I understand if Beast Within is too slow, but I also feel like the 2-mana cyclers are also too slow. You need 3+ bodies in the yard by the time you get to the third land to put the aggressive decks on the back foot when you End and the 2-mana cyclers make it too slow.

The deck in my opinion only has 4-5 flex slots. Of those slots they can be filled with:
- Beast Within
- 2-mana cyclers
- Faerie Macabre
- a utility land like Wolf Run, Dryad Arbor, or Bojuka Bog

And I don't feel like Hollow One is better than any of the listed options.

Hey ya'll I'm looking for a spicy brew where I don't have to actually deal any damage to the opponent to win the game. I'm new to modern and after looking at the metagame every single deck seems to interact through the opponent losing (whether combo/aggro/control/etc) instead of you winning. Approach of the second sun looks pretty fun, but I don't know if it's too slow (certainly looks like, maybe I can run it with urza lands?) Anyway are there any decks for cards that say "you win the game" in some way, shape, or form that aren't complete and utter shit?
>>
>>54114193
Approach of the Second Tron sounds pretty fun to me. Maybe go selesnya so that you're in green and can assemble tron more reliably?

I feel like you need a lot of card draw once your opponent knows what you're doing. Not sure what you would put into GW tron for that.

I know there was an Against the Odds for a deck that used Braid of Fire, Upwelling, and Doubling Cube to float a shitton of mana and pour all of it into a Helix Pinnacle to win the game.

>>
>>54114230
Helix pinnacle looks interesting, but I feel like once you have infinite mana (or that amount of mana) there are straight up better cards to play to win the game. I was looking at Maze's end/Darksteel reactor/felidar sovereign but they all looks too slow. Selesnya for Second Sun tron (that's urza lands right) looks good, but then I'm left with shitty card draw, and I don't have the resources to go bant, and it doesn't seem that good if I'm running urza lands. UW seems like it would work, but then I don't have green to look for lands.
>>
>>54114444
Well that's the price you pay for making shitty meme decks
>>
>>54114193
desu i think the easiest approach would be to take a combo deck that draws the library and slot laboratory maniac as the primary wincon.

AN is the obvious one. a grishoalbrand player or two had lab man in the side to beat infinite life, and you could probably fit him into a jeskai ascendancy shell or whatever storm deck ok

Speaking of 8-whack, Has anyone ever thought of using Quest for pure flame in it? It seems like a lot of people assume that you have to use 4 bolts to activate it and forget that it read's source which could just as easily be a gobo. It seems like it'd be pretty cool to have on-demand double strike at instant speed when you're so often swinging wide.
>>
>>54115521
It's actually Banefire.
>>
>>54115676
You get more overall damage out of Quest for the Goblin Lord.

And even that card is too slow imo. You are better off playing more goblins.

Joke's on you; What are the chances of actually getting this out? That's the problem with CF and all these other groups; They see a T1 - T3 potential and get their little chubbies, but than you rarely if ever get that exact hand and when you can't you guys bitch and complain that the other person was "cheating" or was using a "shit tier deck" or that Magic is "stupid" and the format is "toxic".

Stop building a 1-in-10 deck and start building a deck that's actually consistent, regardless of your opening hand.
>>
>>54109330
go off on turn 4 before they kill you

no really that's it. You have to play around at most 8 counterspells in their 75, and that's only if they're Grixis (which they should be, but some people like to play sub-optimal decks).

Stubborn Denial is usually a 4-of in the 75 which kind of sucks for you, but storm should have Dispel in the side anyway to deal with those kinds of shenanigans. Fatal push targeting Baral or Electromancer kind of sucks but you don't actually need either to go off. They won't play Relic of Progenitus because it shuts off too many cards in their own deck, so you don't have to worry about Past In Flames being a bad card.

It's all a question of picking out the parts of a deck that would actually WORK in modern then fleshing it out. Sadly, it rarely works.

1. No worry about ever getting thrown out of an event or a shop for having the wrong type of cardboard.

2. The expensive real cardboard for the most part retains value so you can move off of it later for slight but reasonable losses if any at all.

3. Buying product puts money back into the system that for the most part keeps the game alive.

Not a huge fan of the 3 drop creatures, Finks is good sideboard card I think though. Kalitas is a liability unless you're playing free kill spells like Slaughter Pact or Seal of Fire or something, both of which are laughably bad at the moment. Huntmaster is a fine 4 drop, I would probably play a second one over the first Kalitas but I'm currently playing Olivia Voldaren so what do I know.

You should be playing 4/2 Inquisitin/Thoughtseize. Go down on decays for more terminates and pushes, I personally have 4/3/2 Push/Terminate/Bolt split. You should probably find room in your list for the 4th liliana.

Mana base is a matter of preference I suppose but I would probably find room for the second swamp if I were you. I don't think Treetop Village is that good but if you like it, it's not the worst. Sideboard is all pretty dependent on your meta but Crumble to Dust seems really bad and I don't know what you're bringing in Obstinate Baloth for.

>>54126939
Most are Death's Shadow brews or have Taisugur and I don't know how to pilot those ones.

>>54126962
Courser was for a different meta iirc
Finks are blockers and life gain to refill from Bob/Thoughtseize
Kalitas also gains life back and makes opponents think before chumping goyfs
Used to run an Olivia and wasn't very good in the times I ever got her out (except for one time where I managed to steal classic Emrakul off Tron and win). I like Huntmaster too though.

I suppose Inquisition is stronger now with Death's Shadow meta?
I was thinking drop both Terminates and a Decay for Pushes?
I never really know when to use Command, might cut one for Lili? Or cut the Chandra for her (otherwise I'll upgrade to the Kaladesh version)?

Treetop comes out quicker than Ravine if I need it, I dunno it's fine.
Sideboard is Tron, Jund, and Bant Spirits iirc.
Crumble is for Tron and is strictly better than Sowing Salt like 95% of the time. Obby is for mirror but yeah like I said I brewed this back in like 2012-3 and the only real changes it got was when Deathrite Shaman got banned.
>>
>>54127230
Course isn't really bad I think, neither is Finks maindeck either. I'm just saying those are my preferences. Olivia used to be a lot worse when Bolt was the premier removal spell in the format but a lot of times Fatal Push can't kill her.

Inquisition has always been the more played card in Jund as opposed to Abzan because Jund just doesn't usually have that much incidental lifegain but your deck seems a little different in that regard. You want to drop lightning bolts for Pushes, Terminate kills a lot of creatures your other removal spells would never otherwise touch and is too valuable to cut. I could see moving one K Command to the sideboard and putting in the 4th Liliana, generally any time you could get an on-board 2-for-1 is when you should be using it, it's really good against affinity or small creature decks. I totally glossed over the fact that you had the old chandra in there, new Chandra is a strict upgrade in all cases.
>>
>>54127335
Alright thanks anon i'll look into those changes
Yeah been lazy picking up new shit so that's why I haven't gotten the new one but yeah almost always a strict upgrade

Honestly I just copied Reid Duke's list from last month

How come nobody can pronounce Dwynen?

Everybody pronounces it like it's Dwhy-nin.

nope

Yup.

So what decks do best again an LCS meta where literally every deck runs four inquisitions and four thoughtseize?

Is modern D&T any good here?
>>
>>54118049
I have one, it wins by countering everything my opponents play and casing sphinx's rev for 20
>>
>>54128909
Doesn't sound like a good meta for D&T, I'd recommend playing ETron or some other variant.
>>
>>54126868
Reid Duke top 8'd with a classic Jund really recently amidst all the Shadow shenanigans.
>>
>>54128909
Esper Control is pretty good against Shadow decks.

If you really want to get metagamey though, you should play some kind of pillowfort enchantress deck with 4x Leyline 4x Runed Halo, 4x RiP.
>>
>>54126784
This is the most silly thing I've seen in a while. I think you need more card draw, can't always count on a tracker being alive.
>>
>>54126414
They can just cast a fat fucking ballista and ping it
>>
>>54129411
It shocks on the Devoted Druid's untap ability, which means they'll only be able to get 6-10 mana out of it depending on how much life they have when they start to combo.
>>

What do you guys think about living end decks? Any recommendations or advice? It seems fun, although I need to rest it before shelling out 100 for a play set
>>
>>54129455
I mean, it's already a pretty well known archetype and I personally think it's super annoying.
>>
>>54129599
>it seems fun
I mean, yeah it's fun, but only if the only thing you care about is winning.
Living End is definitely one of the most boring, linear decks out there.
Cycle, cycle, cycle, cycle, cascade into living end, get back fatties and swing.

play wescoe's gw list from the gp or run standard monowhite with 4 crusaders main and 2 dusk/dawn side. we are quite resilient to hand rape with a proper build. hope u got horizon canopy x4 homes.

Last thing I need is my Cavern of Souls and it'll be complete. I absolutely love this deck. I'm just not sure how many Wanderwine hubs I should run. I'm thinking two so that I have and even ten non-basic and ten basic lands.

>>

Gonna have to get those on down the road. I want a set but $400 is a bit too much right now.

Aether Vial is pretty fucking awesome though. One match I drew one land and had that for a few turns but didn't need anymore thanks to Vial.
>>
>>54129628
When you put it that way, I see what you mean. I'm trying to find cool decks that aren't just "goyf / lili / snaps / expensive value cards" the deck. The idea of having a bunch of cool cycle creatures that you can suddenly slam on the field sounds fun. But I guess playing solitaire with my opponent might not be too fun.

What do you guys suggest?
>>
>>54123282
You can get pretty much any image printed by those custom playmat sites like Inked as long as there's no copyright symbol on the art itself. Even if it's very clearly someone else's art they'll print it.
>>
does Elves have any hope of beating Gx/Eldrazi Tron?
>>
>>54129908
Dunno. I'm currently looking at spirits or rallier landfall because I just like synergies. Of course those will prolly run Snaps/Goyfs respectively. Probably have to go spirits til I have more fetches, sadly.
>>
>>54126865
You can also fetch up Mistveil Plains
>>
>>54129445
Except they only need 6 minimum to stick a ballista that stays and kills it.
>>
>>54130120
That's still 4 damage for 2 mana at worst if they have the balista in hand and 6 mana without druid activation. If you really want to hate out counters company as an aggressive red deck it's a fine sideboard card. The bigger issue is that hating out counters company isn't really worth a sideboard slot in burn.

Elves is Tier 2 for a reason.
>muh single matchup concerns

It's about the overall. Elves overall does not have enough favorable or even matchups to be tournament relevant.
>>
>>54130169
It's 4 potential damage on the turn they win the game. It slightly alters their win con, but it doesn't actively help your own.
>>
>>54129977
I've done it on Xmage
Its not easy or fun, you need a real nutty hand to pull it off

On a whim, I picked up a few decks of Aether Revolt. As a brand new player, I want to try and make a "decent" deck that comprises of vehicles and other "tech" based cards. How do I go about doing this without following a cookie cutter net deck? I know of Mardu Vehicle decks and such but don't want to netdeck just yet

It sure is nice but if your local meta doesn't play any counterspells, you don't have to bother.

Same, but with thoughtsieze.
>>
>>54134875
I mean the problem with death's shadow is they kept giving black all the good interaction and now suddenly it has the best threat and it's the best deck by far. But the solution should be to give other colors threats, unban jace, SFM and BBE now that the strength of the format has been increased. Then ban tron and eldrazi temple so control can keep up.
