As for the FTL, we've managed to install a great many into civilians ships. Recovery efforts of the seed arks we send out to our colonies have been successful. They shall still be allowed to claim their birthright, but it won't take them a century to receive it.

It's slower than the rift drive, but no one sees that as a downside, compared to being able to see cosmic wonders from a few light seconds away.
