So, they release Angelus and now that the game will be complete, they'll release Index: Horus Heresy for 8E immediately afterwards?
And then we'll see the pdf anon did was better,so we'll actually use that one instead?
I say we cut down the middleman and propose 8E rules ourselves. Half of the work is already done. Anon did most of the infantry, Bolter & Chainsword did LA rules.
http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334291-8th-edition-legiones-astartes-2906-i-xx/
Do you think we can propose 8E legion specifics?

>Iron Havocs
>Heavy Bolters with Shrapnel bolts
Loses 1AP, but the targeted unit suffers -1 to their BS and movement (and Advance) vaules
>Hardened armour
-1 to Movement & Advance vaules. For weapons that roll the number of attacks, roll an extra dice and discard the highest one. //
Alt: -1 to Movement & Advance vaules. Add +1 to this model's saving throws
>Deadly Aim
Enemies attacked by this unit can't claim the benefit of cover
>Tank Hunters
When rolling for Damage against vehicles roll 2 dice and discard the lowest //
>>
>>54101138
Looks good
>>
>>54101138
Angelus will only have BAs and DAs. There'll still have to be one book for the WSs, if they plan to update all the Legions before going to 8th. So they'll be lucky to get to 8th by 2018 at the earliest.
>>
>>54101138
>-1 to Movement & Advance vaules. For weapons that roll the number of attacks, roll an extra dice and discard the highest one. //
>Alt: -1 to Movement & Advance vaules. Add +1 to this model's saving throws

I'm in favor of the former. Represents their ability to withstand blasts and flamers. Alternatively, mix the two. Vs. weapons that have a random number of shots, they get +1 armour save.
>>
>>54101138
I'm really not looking forward to a game where everyone from centurion on up hits everyone else in melee on a 2+ and everything comes down to DPS and tankiness.
>>
>>54101138
I for one is happy with 7ed horus heresy for now.
>>
>>54101138
How about an errata for the Legion Special Rules?

SoH: when within 12" and under, all pistol, rapid-fire and assault weapons are +1 to hit.

If you outnumber an enemy unit in close combat, gain +1 attack

I dont know if allies or reserve rolling is still a thing, so cant make a call on that.
>>
>>54101201
Then it's a mix. With the alt rules I wanted to convey their role as the full frontal armour, and that's supposed to be even harder for small arms to defeat (thus effectively 2+) while overstraining the servos (-1 to any kind of move) and still not enough protection as Terminators (only 1W, lacks an invuln of its own)
>>
>>54101343
The Merciless Fighters expy shouldn't be +1attack, but exactly as it is now - 1 extra attack at I1, attacks that normally are I1 excluded.
>>
>>54101456
I thought hardened armour was just armour that's better protected against hazardous environments and shrapnel by securing life support and securing all the weak points, rather than just slapping extra plates on.

What are you painting them with? It sounds like you're using clear paints over a silver layer like with Thousand Sons or Word Bearers. But I could be completely off.

I used army painter plate metal spray, one coat of that, didn't look too thick, then three thin coats of abbadon black, going for IW vet unit

I don't have any experience with the plate metal spray, but I think you can get a brush on primer such as Vallejo Surface Black and hand prime the studs over the plate metal spray. That should adhere to the plate metal spray.

Is Anacharis Scoria the Mechanicum Sauron? Mysterious Magos from a Forge World that used to be green and verdant but inhabited by vicious predators, took control after his previous boss was dispatched and turned it into an industrialised hellscape. He almost never appears in person, instead sending monstrous daemonic corrupted robots to do the unsubtle work and Vodian enforcers to do the talking, but when he does fight he swings around an epic-tier mace that knocks out whole squads of dudes with one swing. Sounds like a decent match to me.

The problem with Fenris is Russ wanted it that way. The other planets in the star system were fully 'modernized' Imperial worlds (before Nurgle om nom'd one of them). Russ wanted it to be a wild zoo; and after he left, it became an animal reserve where the people hold onto traditions just cuz and the Space Wolves have trouble keeping a super fortress tidy.

Why does FW hate Mechanicum players so much?
>>
>>54116994
Well, since if the Taghmata actually fought in numbers reflecting where they were or used any of their fancy toys they'd have easily crushed the Astartes assault force of a few thousand, I guess FW figured they didn't want to draw attention to the entire planet's worth of massive guns they were ignoring.

As usual, Mechanicum is not allowed to win anything without magical Dreadnought Jesus along or being instantly crushed by Marines afterwards.
>>
>>54117135
Yeah, it seemed absolutely ridiculous to me that only 9000 Astartes and 20,000 army troopers (not even Solar Auxilia) were depicted as such a massive threat that almost won when
>a: Mezoa was a major Forge World with a reputation for being incredibly militarized
>b: Mezoa was dug in and had the advantage of defending from fortified positions on their home turf
Not to mention the fact that they were supported by allied contingents of Astartes, Knights, and Solar Auxilia (not that they ever should have needed them)
>>
>>54117254
Yes. 12000 defenders of Mezoa, including ALL of the Forge World's bullshit, Automata, Astartes, Knights and SA. What the fuck. There's scale errors, and then there's failing so hard your "mighty assault force" should have been blown to shit, stormed and eradicated like pulling off a leech.
Also, since when were Forge World fleets "ragtag"? One Ark Mechanicus is fuckheug enough to tear apart a battle-barge, and those were the standard battleships of GC-era Forge Worlds.

Forge World is then crippled for the remaining decade-ish of the war because one Magos died and the Alpha Legion shot up one Forge-fane with infantry. I think they may be confusing Alpha-class Forge Worlds with small manufacturing bases, guys, because that's some serious bullshit.

To be fair, in GC era politics every manufacturing base under Mechanicum administration would want to be labeled a Forgeworld. Not all Forgeworlds are equal, after all - the ghetto ass confederacy which teamed up with the Thousand Sons is one such example of a Ghettocanicum.
>>
>>54118015
>the ghetto ass confederacy which teamed up with the Thousand Sons is one such example of a Ghettocanicum.
The "guetto ass" that gave them Castellax better than what forgeworlds usually have? The one that gave them better bolters?
They're not a forgeworld: they're just a codex device for marines.
Like Illiastus.
Just like women in movies exist to adorn the protagonist (eh), so do forgeworlds seem to exist to adorn space marines (reee)
>>
>>54118015
Yeah, but even Zhao-Arkkad had a full Titan Legion, dammit, and Mezoa is a major Forge World in a few other bits of fluff. You're right, there's probably some pretty titchy ones, but Mezoa shouldn't give a single fuck about less than 30k enemies even if they were all Astartes rather than just 1/3. There's a Forge World ranking system, too, Xana II is apparently "Primaris-1 Grade" which presumably is right up there.

>>54117948

Which doesn't have much bearing on things aside from making the Mechanicum Domini look incompetent as fuck. How the hell is he doing that, anyway? Did the Mezoans just build a Cortex Controller and some auto-Cybertheurgy engrams into him and crank his access permits to max for all their Boops?

Why are your units such random sizes, anon?
I'd cut a Castellax and the fourth Myrmidon Destructor, push the Peltasts and Adsecs up to 20, buy the Thallax the Destructor augment and get the Vulturax enhanced targeting. Buy the other two Cyber-Occularis and the rest of the Krios/the Triaros Extra Armour, and maybe give one of the Myrmidons a Graviton Imploder to deal with artificer sarges at the front and such.

If you need to, cut the Augury Scanner from the Archmagos, he's got Occularis to hand out Interceptor in full anyway. Also probably buy him a Cyber-Familiar.

destructor augument is useless, if i could i would also remove the thallaxi but they are a must-have, the darklance is to blind artillery, while the melta will DS near the magos with augury scanner.

vulturax ETA is standard included, no need to buy it, they already have it

myrmidon are already 4,3 plus lord

same for peltast, they are 15 plus sergent so 16 in total.

i would like to find the points for one extra armor(only need to the one ahead ),the cyber familiar and eventually one more cyber occularis

That is, I believe, correct. The only wolves on Fenris are those who have fallen to the Canis Helix.
>>
>>54118879
It has a double meaning, because Abnett's clever like that.

The more benign one is that the Space Wolves don't deserve their name, since they are bound to the emperor and are not independent like real wolves.

The second, and far creepier one, is that the wolves of Fenris are mutated settlers and failed aspirants
>>
>>54118692
I would cut either the Darkfires or the Wreckers on all the Castellax, no need for them to be kitted out for heavy melee AND longrange vehicle sniping, they're S6 AP2 anyway. Use the points to buy those upgrades, then drop the fourth Myrmidon to get a Graviton Imploder on another Myrmidon, buy Cyber-Occularis #4 and fill out the infantry units to a full 20, you need to keep the Kyropatris buffs as long as possible and no reason not to spend 6 points on another two expendable bodies when all the upgrades are flat costs.

You don't really need a fourth Irrad myrmidon, three is quite enough to ruin a unit wholesale, and the Destructor augments make Lightning Guns and Photon Thrusters rather good at poking hull points off things in the event there's no artillery for you to attempt to blind (only a 29% chance of a blind, too).

>>54118682

Yes, I am a massive Mech fan, but even taking bias into account this is insane.

This is like an entire Legion being seriously threatened with destruction from a couple dozen Custodes, and then rendered combat-incapable for the rest of the Heresy because they managed to kill one Praetor in the process.

>8e is a solid ruleset
In what way? Removing 3/4 of the games mechanics in favor of streamlining and removing customization?

Fact is that they didn't want to move to 8e because the ruleset can't actually differentiate units from one another. Try making 18 LA rules that are all unique when your options are rerolling or +1/-1 to hit, wound, save, move, or leadership. The game gutted core mechanics that the HH revolves around (AV/vehicle rules and reserve rules)

That's not true, he just took down 50 dudes and lobotomised half-dudes while his company was fighting a flesh-crawler.
What IS a flesh-crawler anyway? Something cute and fluffy I imagine.
>>
>>54119075
Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm on about. The Mechanicum get treated as a free punching bag by everyone because otherwise they'd make the Marine players slightly sad. Hell, just ONE win, or one description of what a Forge World is capable of that doesn't confuse it with a Guard Regiment and I'll be happy. Not bailed out by magic dreads, sabotaged by random Astartes or bouncing off plot shields because they can't afford to run any numbers against Space Marines. They put the numbers out there and then completely ignore them whenever an actual fight starts.

Still, that "flesh-crawler" seems like something suitable for a counts-as. Maybe equip it with two Inferno Cannon, make it a huge spidery crawler and count it as a Warhound? Still, that's the worst possible Warhound loadout.

>>
>>54119445
Except in almost every battle we've seen showcased they DO fight army-to-army, and still win all the time. Istvaan, Mezoa, Paramar, only time they didn't was Xana, and that was probably the closest they came to a loss. Also, saying you can win every battle ever because "precision strikes" is a little much, since almost every time it's happened the enemy has no defences in place at all, the Marines know exactly where the enemy leadership is and the enemy has nothing that can outrun them or keep their aircraft away. Hell, the Scry And Die teleport/assassinate is blocked by Void Shields, we know this from Terra.

No, anon. As in what should we avoid. There has to be a way to move forward without compromising the flavour of 30k. >If you go after only broken shit, you are a faggot who is missing the point of the game.
The Commander format of MtG is in a similar situation as 40k and 30k in that there's a wide gap between casual and competitive play and the two mindsets don't play very well against each other. There's a concept that is used by the rules council to decide if cards should be banned or not which I think is just as applicable here.
Basically, if a card is broken only by intentionally trying to break it through deliberate interactions and combos, it doesn't need to be banned. Competitive players rejoice in how good it is, casual players can use the card without deliberately breaking it. If the card becomes broken just by using it on its own or alongside commonly played cards, it unavoidably becomes a problem even in casual playgroups and deserves to be banned.
How it relates to 40k is that I think a lot of units, options and formations in 7th and 30k fall into the latter category. Even if players aren't trying to deliberately break the game, the way rules interact with each other makes a lot of choices broken enough to make the entire format less fun to play.

He spent thousands of years tracking his foster father through the Warp, imprisons his soul in a fucked up clock and tortures him with various little bugs. AND THIS STILL ISN'T ENOUGH FOR HIM! No, Morty STILL thinks Emps 'owes' him.

I'm not super sure. Assault and shooty armies both have their appeals, maybe something not super vehicle heavy as to keep it lower in cost, and fairly easy to paint while having a good scheme, and that looks good in MkIV.

Sure thing. If someone says Horus requested MkIV to be issued to his legion first due to his newly invested power as Warmaster (and thus his legion now the Sons of Horus), say both the change in panoply ocurred some time after his promotion and "they're still repainting".

Super-heavy tanks are actually pretty good money/points value. So are Land Raiders, infantry of all types, and a lot of Dreadnoughts (their drop pods less so, and don't bother running a Leviathan without one). Poor money/points units include Rhinos, Predators, drop pods, a lot of the flyers, Javelins, bikes, Jetbikes… the lighter stuff.

That scene near the beginning of Legion is strait up Sacrificial Offering.

Army of Dark Compliance, along with Shattered Legions, is one of those "opponent's permission required) lists because it's easy to unbalance. Still something cool to work towards as your collection grows, but you also need a fully-approved army. Sacrificial Offering is better than just running an allied detachment so go for it. Attack bikes are a dark horse choice that get a lot better when they can outflank. Make a good escort for a bike character, too, since a unit of 5 has 10 wounds and T5.

Any of you folks read the Dark Imperium novel yet? I actually quite liked it and I'm looking forward to the days we actually get to the scouring now. The opening with Guilliman getting BTFO by Fulgrim was excellent IMO and the portrayal of both Primarchs was better that half the shit we get in the HH series.

Also I know half of you cant stop arguing about Magnus doing nothing wrong and theres a bit where Guilliman takes a pot-shot at the Emperor over it that I imagine you'd like.

I read it. It was pretty interesting, but Guy Haley's a lot better at writing pre-posthumans (Shadowsword was his best, imo). Good info, much less infantile than I expected for a tie-in to a new release, but I could put it down relatively easily.

It does mean we should get some cool stuff for the traitors in the late-Heresy/Scouring periods.

As for Primaris marines, it looks like some of the Deathwatch characters were just about as tall as them. Makes me appreciate that FW convinced GW not to grow the marines in the BaC and BoP sets (though the Sisters of Silence did get biggified - they're as tall as the marines in the box).

Hey mechanicum players what Forge World did you choose? I'm curious how many of you made your own instead of using a canon planet.
>>
>>54131365
I always fancied obscure Forge Worlds. My mechanicum force is mostly from Anvilus.

For example take a look at the alternative Legion heavy weapons. They all have the 'prefix' pattern Lascannon/plasma cannon/autocannon etc. All those prefixes refer to Forge Worlds.

From there, make up your own scheme and fluff.
>>
>>54131365
I made my own Forge World so I could use a green and bronze scheme I came up with, but I haven't named it yet and they originated from a Xanatite Explorator Fleet and have strong ties with them so I can use those sexy Malinax knights and transfers. You can go fairly nuts with Forge World fluff given how varied and OP they tend to be.

any sergent/character can mastercraft any weapon for 10pts, the weapon inflict 1 more damage
Praetor can take the elder drake mantle for 30 points, it add 2 wounds
All character and terminators can take a dragonscale stormshield, add 1 to the invuln save roll or give a 5++ if no existing invuln save, still 15/5pts for power armored/terminators marines ?

>>54131988

I was planning a force with a decent number of Gal Vorbak and cultist swarms centered around a huge rolling cathedral counts-as Mastodon, on two pairs of tracks and with a Diabolist standing on a balcony casting a shield over the thing to represent Voids. Back it up with a couple Vindicators and Dreads, of course.

I hear the Mastodon is terrible, but then again so is most Word Bearers stuff. Does anyone know the dimensions of the normal Magic School Bus?

I still think a big part is that people read the first three HH novels, think "that Erebus bloke is a proper dickhead", and then carry that attitude over to the rest of the legion. When they read a bit more, especially First Heretic, they maybe realise that the WB aren't so bad but that Erebus is still a dickhead.
>>
>>54132079
>We have the coolest ships, anyway
The Phalanx is the anointed pimpmaster cribship of the Imperium.
>>
>>54131909
Considering the mechanics of mastercrafted weapons have changed (+1Dmg is simply different to a reroll, and applies in different scenarios), and the way Eternal Warrior works now and how it was broken for Salamander Praetors (Krieg Marshals only suffer 1 wound max per attack) those options won't cost the same.
The mantle could let you either only take one wound per attack, or reroll wounds, or roll two dice for wounds and pick the lowest. I don't know what that would cost.
>>
>>54132081
Erebus did literally nothing wrong
>>
>>54132081

>>
>>54132300
I thought 10points was a fair price for +1dmg, since most weapon cost less, safe for the heavy ones, who don't really care about one more point of damage
The elder drake mantle rules you suggest seems too powerful in a world where bolter is everywhere, taking off one wound per attack make him immune to small arms, rerolling wounds make the unfluffy bike/jetbike option even more attractive, I still think my temporary solution is the best out of what you offer : no cool gimmick, but not overly broken and rather cheap

>taking off one wound per attack make him immune to small arms,
No, taking only a single wound per attack. I'm basing it on the way the Memento Mori gives Eternal Warrior to people: got hit by a bolter? 1 wound. Got hit by a power fist with D3 damage? 1 wound. Got D6 hit by an Earthshaker that does D3 dmg, and would recieve thus D6*D3 wounds? Suffer D6 wounds (the times it hit).
The effectiveness of small arms isn't reduced, only the big ones.
And it's not like a T5 EW 2+/3++ MC Thunderhammer Salamander biker wasn't attractive before

For a serious answer, both have nice colour schemes. If you're planning to get the Primarch model, then I'd lean toward World Eaters, since imo Angron is the nicest one there is so far (nice detail, very animated pose, looks vicious with the display base where he's chopping through loyalists), though there are a few tied for a close second.

Actually this has been a thing since the very first Space Wolf novels. The very first one follows Ragnar's time as an aspirant, which not only includes him fighting a fellow Aspirant who changed into a Wolfen, but also another one who dies fighting a TROLL (the fantasy kind that regenerates if you don't use fire).

To sidetrack a bit, I often find it amusing when people criticize bits of fluff as writers adding in crazy shit, when many times they're taking old fluff and mentioning it again.

A few of them are the most mustache-twirling, one-dimensional evil characters in the story, out of a very small number of them.

Lorgar reminds many of us of the annoying kids in high school who believed so strongly in something (usually but not always religion) that it colored every single one of their words and actions.

And they're often portrayed as a stereotypically dumb horde army.

Thinking about it more clearly now, mere +2W sounds better. The Mememento Mori makes sense for Marshalls because they have mortal stats with a 5++, instead of 6W 3-5++ termie characters may have.
8W is merely upgrading from surviving a power fist to surviving two, instead of "can tank a turbolaser".
And the B&C thing, sure we shall change whatever is exaggerated. They're just proposals after all. Like the Legion specific WTs we proposed back then, and some were "gains EW lel".
