Hey guys check this out!

Note that box in the top right that says "Army Faction"? If you put 'Ynnari' there, you don't get to take any of the restricted units in your army at all, but if you put 'Aeldari' there, nothing in your army gets the Ynnari keyword or Soulburst except the three Ynnari special characters.

Just to clarify one last time how that works.

Reminder the FAQ confirming this as correct is imminent!

Am I crazy for wanting to use Shredders on my warriors? They're objectively better against T1-5 and break even on T6 compared to splinter rifles. With the new edition drop your best bet is to wait a bit to see what is decent in your army now, the /wip/ thread will help you figure out anything you need to know about painting. I'd recommend a simple scheme to start with that you might be able to add onto later if you want

Splinter Rifle RF (T*) 2 hits, wounds on 4s for 1 wound
Shredder (T4) 2 hits, wounds on 2s rerolling for 1.94 wounds
Shredder (T4, T5) 2 hits, wounds on 3s rerolling for 1.78 wounds
Shredder (T6) 2 hits, wounds on 4s rerolling for 1.5 wounds

They're better than the rifle, to be sure... but for 8 points you're honestly just better off buying another Kabalite.
>>

That's because any chapter that isn't a super popular chapter like the Ultramarines or Dark Angels won't have much written about them.
>>
>>54090290
>simple scheme to start with

Not gonna lie, that is part of the reason I picked Necrons, less variety and easier to paint since its my first time and all. Still, was thinking of maybe doing some type of bronze theme with them.
>>
>>54090264
>Consecrators

ah right. Pretty sure safeguarding relics is basically their job isn't it?

If they can raise a chapter specifically to hunt Cypher, I don't see any reason why they can't have one to go relic hunting

(also successor chapters are more about being <your guys> than story line)

No, I didn't miss it. And while it was bad at least it later led to some discussion on the politics of the Imperium and the Tau Empire. This whore causes nothing but derailment and chaos. My nid based headcannon is that the tyranids our galaxy is familiar with are just a single hive mind in an incredibly vast society of hive minds. Eons ago, the hive mind we know committed some crime against another hive mind. And now the society of hive mind's law enforcement agency is chasing it through space. In effect, the thing that the tyranids are running from is a larger swarm of tyranids.

Yup
Tau Commanders are probably the best model in all of 40k. For the cost of 3 crisis suits you can bring 2 commanders and do way more damage every turn, as well as have more wounds and the ability to hide behind models.

Just bring a bunch of gun, marker, and shield drones and you're set

"A Fallen Champion may replace his boltgun and/or bolt pistol with one item from the Champion Equipment list"

I'm pretty sure this is trying to say that each of these two items can independently be swapped for Champion Equipment, such that if you swap both, you get two pieces of equipment. However, the wording would seem to indicate that you're choosing between replacing one of those items or both of them with "one item from the Champion Equipment list". IE if you choose to replace both, you still only get one champ equipment. Why is GW bad at rules-writing.

The majority of marine scouts are on their first tour of duty, though it'll last about a decade before they get shuffled up to Devastator. You don't get many career scouts.

It isn't really reasonable to expect them to have the same level of training as a schola progenium graduate the same age who didn't need to spend half their training time getting surgically roided up.

Astartes are superhuman, but the skill stats measure, unsurprisingly, skill.

I love reading tyranid head canon. Mine is they are a race that emerged in a galaxy where psykers or warp shit wreaked havoc on planets so a hive mind eventually emerged through evolution to adapt to the harsh psychic environment. To fuel their spread, they required lots of biomass and completely ate away the planet. To continue feasting, they needed to travel to other planets and star systems and developed their hive ships from using genetic material of intelligent species. To facilitate efficient travel of their species and biomass, they break themselves down only to respawn using the newly collected material to enhance and adapt their spawn. Completely desolating galaxy after galaxy they spread and splinter off until they finally show up. The single greatest motivator of any species is to thrive and to survive and that means consuming everything.

Oh boy. You never read the fluff of Ghost Arks, haven't you?

>Back in the earliest days of Necrontyr civilization, Ghost Arks took the form of wooden carriages, drawn by beasts of burden, to take away the dead to their final resting place. By the time of biotransference, the Ghost Arks had evolved into motorized vehicles. They were pressed into service no longer to round up the dead, but the living, to drag them to the great machines that would transform the mortal Necrontyr into the mechanical Necrons. The first wave of Ghost Arks were piloted by the grim-faced soldiers, but soon, they were replaced by the first of the Necrons.[2]

>While the nobility of the Necrontyr society had willingly pledged themselves to the C'tan, the civilians of their society were not so willing to abandon their mortal lives. They resisted biotransference, and so the nobles sent agents to force the unwilling into the Ghost Arks to be carried away: all that was needed was a flicker of life and memory, and so they assaulted the unwilling before throwing their broken, barely-living bodies onto the wagons to be converted. Tales of these beatings spread fear throughout the civilian populace of the Necrontyr, and the Ghost Arks' reputation grew ever darker. Those who saw the Ghost Arks traveling through the streets claimed to see the victims' spirits flying thickly around the wagons, filling the air with their mournful voices. The mere sight of a Ghost Ark eventually became enough to drive those who could still feel emotion into terror.[2]

Why would it have changed? This is 7th.

Ghost Arks are tasked with trawling for remnants of Necrons unable to self-repair.
Recovered components are set upon by swarms of constructor scarabs that return the fallen
Necrons to full function. Repaired warriors are then locked in stasis until the Ghost Ark is at
capacity, at which point it will either return its cargo to their tomb world or else deploy them
directly into battle. Ghost Arks are often used as conventional transports that ferry
reinforcements into battle – however, they truly come into their own once their grim cargo
has disembarked. Drifting behind the ranks of Necrons, the Arks flicker with emerald
energies as they repair one fallen foot soldier after another. The enemy can only watch with
dawning horror as their best efforts to slay the Necrons are undone.

No terminator armor for this, no bikes for that, no power fists only for chaplains, no apothecaries or techmarines despite their existence in fluff background. Homing beacons don't work with the xv109, but you don't need them. It's "deepstrike/redeploy" ability puts it on the battlefield at the "beginning of your next movement phase", meaning it can still move after redeploying. You can deep strike it, move to just over 1 inch, and then shoot/charge to your heart's content.

Scale will look off, those upgrade sets are designed for the Betrayal at Calth and Burning of Prospero plastic marines. The new rubric marines have slightly different proportions.

Besides, Thousand Sons rubrics MUST have headcrests on their helmets. On Prospero the dead were buried with a head crest, and since the Rubric of Ahriman turned all rank and file troops into walking dust coffins ...

Building rubric marines without a headcrest is like pissing on your cremated dead mother's ashes.

>Many units have the ability to be set up on the battlefield mid-turn, sometimes by using teleporters, grav chutes or other, more esoteric means

It would definitely appear that the Y'vahra's ability to be removed from play and set back up on the battlefield falls under this umbrella. The rule being referenced even states that not all of these cases occur at the end of the movement phase.

Can pile in and consolidation moves be made for a model which is already in base to base? Like, are you able to swivel around the base of something you're already in contact with? Mostly curious for the purpose of stuff like gaunts being able to surround a transport or blob into other squads.

The rules refer to every unit that set up in the middle of a turn. The Y'varna own rule says that once you flyed away you set it up on the battleflield in the middle round.

>>54092163
I didn't bother to read burning of prospero or anything - but were the Thousand Sons retconned to be fucking with Necron shit?

It always really bothered me that GW went with an ancient Egyptian aesthetic for the Necrons after their "Chaos-Android" phase... when the TT's already had that aesthetic.

If the rubric had something to do with Necrontyr sould-robo-body tech then I guess I could see it making sense, but otherwise, eh.

I'm not, I just have loads of models from ages ago I need to do. I bought some on Ebay like 10 years ago dirt cheap.

But meditation seems neat. Obviously not the board for this, but thanks.

I know but I had hoped it'd be something to aim for, something to achieve. I used to like completing models. It's why I bought so many. I have hundreds done.

Pistols can only be fired on your turn. Chain sword you can attack with in each turn of combat.

I still wouldn't give him a chain sword though. plasma pistol all the way.

General consensus on the Marauder Destroyer? I really like the model and it looks pretty good, 460 points doesn't seem too much to field with the 8 Hellstrike Missiles when I look at the cost of vehicles in the rest of my mech army.

I can imagine having the Destroyer circle around the table firing on shit my Chimeras and Lemans can't see so they can move up safely.

c'mon guys, don't bully the tau players too much. they got so used to their special snowflake army flat out ignoring most of the core rules or having special rules for every situation, it's understandable that they'd be desperately searching for anything to make them feel unique and special again.

Tau are unique. They're the only army that can deep strike directly into combat.

JFC I've been saying this for ages, sticking 6 of the nogs with falchions in a lascannon razorback is one of the easiest ways to clear a path to powerful enemies GK have.

Plus with warp-jump they are good for dropping as the 50% of army on the table while still being within 9" T1.

Italeri IT0015

Italeri makes a 1:48 and 1:72 model. I'm sure that Revell makes one as well. Orks are lucky in that they can take a lot of those cheap plastic kits and kitbash the fuck out of them.

But the general rule is that you aren't allowed within 1" of a unit without having charged it, or been charged by it. So the best would be a 2" drop.

Re-read the rules gue'vasa.

Only during the movement phase are you not allowed to place a model within 1 inch of an enemy. And only when you're moving it. This doesn't apply to deep strike rules, or any form of movement that takes place outside of the movement phase (such as pile in or consolidation moves, special moves granted by powers in the psychic, shooting, or fight phases, etc, etc).

>>
>>54092540

They're a pretty sweet set up and having them on the field allows you to teleport your strike squads so you don't have to pay any rhino tax.

They've really got the best of a few worlds all put in one unit for a pretty moderate point cost all things considered

Even just letting them razorback rush before using their teleport move for a late game objective grab is awesome
>>
>>54092602
You can consolidate/pile in to units you haven't charged. Arriving in the movement phase counts as having moved, so there's an argument to be made that the restriction of moving within an inch in the movement phase applies. But it's pointless, why would you want your commader to forgo all of his considerable shooting to use his meagure melee stats in combat without even getting the benefit of auto-going first from charging, because you definatly did not charge, in anyway?

It's simple anon: you don't want the commander to get tied up in melee combat, you want the drones the commander is bringing with him to tarpit a scary tank for a turn while the commander destroys everything else.

By forcing yourself too. Motivation only gets you so far and is temporary anyway. It also doesn't matter if it looks good or bad, models can always be stripped. I just got out of a year long haze of not painting, and I had to force myself to do it. I also had to lower my standards down to a realistic level. You don't need to be super proud of your work, just content with it. You can always go up from there.
>>

Just pick what exciteds you the most to paint and focus on it. Get all the other shit in your backlog out of sight and out of mind. One thing at a time. Find a nice duncan brand video tutorial to follow if you can. Post progress here or have others critique you. Set achievable goals with deadlines. Work alongside a friend if possible and push each other. Play games with newly painted things to motivate further.
>>
>>54092753
>>54092731

Not sold on reaper.

7 str is quite poor for killing lots of things. 4s or 5s on most vehicles. Still 3s on MEQs. Only -1 ap and only 1 damage each.

Heavy bolter is only slightly worse against vehicles and just as good against most infantry except GEQ for more shots.

On the other hand, you may as well just give it a lascannon.

>any unit using it to deep stirke in has to be within 6"
>even assuming the enemy is 9.00000000000000000...1" away, this still means your 2" away from the enemy
sure you can garuntee a charge with it,but you can not use it to teleport into combat, that is to say within 1" of the enemy
>>
>>54092796
See, I wouldn't say I'm a perfectionist, but I go into things trying to do well first time. I don't just go in and see what happens. I just hate losing abilities to do things and painting is one of many things I've fucked up. I also struggle to learn things these days.

>>54092857
Well, the first two are done. The third is bookmarked. The other shit? Nope.

>stealth suit flies over enemy screening units, deploys homing beacon within 2 inches of them.
>during the same turn, at the end of the movement phase, you deploy your manta strike unit from the homing beacon.
>at no point does an enemy unit end its movement within 9 inches of your homing beacon, because at no point does the enemy unit end (or start) any movement.

Don't worry gue, when we conquer your world for the greater good, we'll also educate your children.
>>
>>54092835
They're decently tough but they'll go down to dedicated anti tank either way.

The reason you take them is the fist + scourge so they can go bananas in close combat with 8 high strength, good ap, good damage attacks.
You can advance 8+d6 inches a turn and still fire assault weapons like the fists heavy flamer making a great distraction.
>>
>>54092915

How long until we see Kill Team or SW: Armageddon or Necromunda for 8th edition as base rules? Something like Hinterlands for AoS, maybe with more depth.
And how difficult would it be to actually make some X-Com like rules and advancements to play in small point games with my friends? Thinking something like fielding two or three little squads and a light vehicle and have random missions to do, with character deaths, injuries, advancements and shit. And I was thinking about adding some kind of orders system where you can apply once a turn a buff on one of your squads to give more depth.
