Judge Death and the other Dark Judges are among the few recurring villains of the 2000AD comic Judge Dredd. For nearly forty years they have fought to bring their peculiar conception of justice to its logical conclusion: if only the living can break the law, then life itself must also be a crime, one punishable by death. But before they came to Mega City One they had already cleansed one world of all its sinners.
This is how that world dies. This is the Fall of Deadworld.
Continuing from this thread >>54051703, this is the final part of Fall of Deadworld: Cursed.
The story so far: A world quite like our own is slowly being murdered. Judge Fairfax, a deeply troubled enforcer of a brutal regime, attempted to escape the supernatural horror growing around his former mentor, Sidney De’Ath, but quickly found that there was nowhere left to run. Now captured by rebels and with Sidney’s new friends closing in all hope seems lost.
Fear rules supreme.

WTF? Seriously, 'few recurring villains'? Ahem. East Meg 1 Survivors, Orlock The Assassin, Mean Machine Angel, P.J. Maybe. The Frendz of Nero Narcos, The Hunters' Club, Kleggs, Owen Krysler, Total War. Dredd is packed with recurring villains.
I love that.
Just gonna bump this because OP can't

>>54078190

It wass my pleasure.
>>54077952
That's fair. A better way to put it might be "few recurring individual villains that have 'survived' since the early days of the strip to the present day".Even PJ Maybe might have finally snuffed it.
>>54078217
Not tonight Josephine, but I can look for requests for tomorrow if there's still some interest. Doesn't have to be Dredd related, I'm already hunting for 13 for that other anon.
>>54078257
It is, yes. I'm not sure when the next bit will be out, but given how universally well-received its been I would imagine it'll be as soon as possible.
>>54078307
Isn't the ending a forgone conclusion though? The four judges invade mega city one, and announce they've killed everything else, and they're utterly victorious in their home dimension. That means the chosen one girl must have failed doing whatever she was supposed to do. It's prequel syndrome.
>>54078307

not necessarily.
we can see in dreams that they did not kill all life in the galaxy, it's possible that they could even suprise

He doesn't know they're undead yet. As far as most people know magic isn't real and this is some kind of an engineered prion disease.

>>54078337
It is and it isn't. Ultimately we do know that absolutely everyone and everything apart from the Four on Deadworld snuffs it. On the other hand, Jess is shaping up to be this universe's version of Owen Krysler, and mere death didn't stop him from creating an entire vampire-based alternate timeline. There's also some very peculiar things going on with the Sisters and how they interact with other worlds and other universes as seen by the Half-Life saga, and more prosaically dimension hopping technology means that it is possible that some natives escaped the purges somehow. There's room for unexpected developments, even though I do think its going to end really sadly for Jess, Byke and Fairfax.
>>54078447
Desperate mostly. Mind you, he's still doing quite well considering cold-turkey detoxing, poorly healed injuries, nightmarish stress, psychic attacks and enormous dose of peyote he's was fed only an hour or two.
Some points I didn't get around to pointing out as we were going along
>School of Hate were a popular teen band which first appeared in Half-Life. Sidney killed them all before he was even a Judge. The lyrics to their songs (eg. >>54077999) seem to reference the future forms of the Four.
> >>54066646 A Hot-dog run in Dredd's universe is an expedition/practical lesson for a group of Judge cadets into the Cursed Earth around Mega City One to familiarise them with the area and give them unexpected problems to solve.
>Deadworld Judge technology is modelled on skulls and bones even before they turn. Byke was designed after a horse skull while the fliers were based on cow skulls.
>All of the Dark Judges are at different stages of their evolution. We know from Boyhood and Half-Life that Death was the first to take on his final form. We're never shown him in full view throughout the Fall, only the mouth, presumably so that as the audience we see him for the first time with Fairfax.
Ymoi mushroom girl a cutie
>>54078639
>Death does, however, have the characteristic white-on-black squiggly text boxes. Normals people have normal boxes, people exposed to the Dead Fluids and especially those who have "died" at least once like Gates have white boxes but squiggly outlines. Fear and Fire are in this stage, and are part way to developing their signature looks, but from the way that Psiren describes Fear he's clearly at a more advanced stage in the process. Mortis is probably the next most advanced after Death considering this page >>54068719. The Sisters are a weird case. They appear to be completely human but its also only a mask. There's more going on there than is immediately apparent.
I'm sure there's some other things but I'm afraid my brain's gone to slurry right now. Hopefully the thread will stay up long enough for me to get back to it.
>>54078633
He's was also completely out of it on drugs when they arrived. He might not realise that they really are that freakish looking
Thanks for posting.
I've always been kinda on/off with Dredd and 2000AD in general.
Knew about them as a kid but never picked them up just read one or two a friend had.
Got a little taster booklet that had the Ken Dodd story but was kinda overwhelmed by how much there was.
Read bits and pieces over the years though, mostly crossovers and alternate world stories because they tend to be self contained rather than sprawling.
Biggest problem though has always been my problem of being picky when it comes to artwork. I know I've missed out on some of the best storyline because of not liking the art (either not feeling up to the old school line art, or flat out hating some of the modern CG art of some 2000AD stories).
Good to see there is new stuff coming out that is interesting, has nice art and is semi-stand alone.
>everyone dies

They're doing a big mainline Judge Death story soon. Jess might play a part.
>>54078447
He's basically Deadworld's equivalent to Dredd. The Chief Judge's fixer, a surpassingly violent Judge. And he already knows Ssidney.
bonk
Even before all that necromancy stuff, Ssssydney was going around killing/maiming people, including fellow Judges, with impunity
That's not a sign of healthy society
(Not like it was healthy in Dredd main universe)
>>54082815
judge systems are always going to be a little fucked up (emerald isles aside) , deadworld's just a bit more than usual
>>54082815
That's the thing about extremists. They are, well, extreme but they don't just appear out of nowhere. Only a deeply fucked up society could produce someone as deeply fucked as Death or Dredd for that matter
>>54077830

Grud bless you, son.
>>54083004
What's illogical about that? We have all kinds of laws intended to prevent crime the Dark Judges crime prevention program is just a little broader than most. And you can't say it doesn't work, crime on Deadworld was completely eliminated
>>54083004
> if only the living can break the law
As it was shown in Dreams of Deadworld, non-living (i.e. other Dark Judges apart from the Four) can also break the law
Well, suffices to say, they too were judged
>>54082977
To think of it, Ol' good Judge Cal was essentially another Ssssydney, but with way more style and way less necromancy
I think they would have gotten along famously
I'm halfway through compiling 13, so while that's going on enjoy a short interlude from a story I like that I discovered while sorting out the progs.
>>54080704
Some Sinister Dexter is totally doable and I've got the story with thefirstHoly Moses Tanenbaum right here.
Brit-Cit is essentially Mega City Britain. It includes the holiday destination Murphyville (Ireland), the radioactive/dimensionally inconsistent wasteland Cal-Hab (Scotland) and a lot of mutant and folklore infested wilderness.
>>54084226

>>54083429

Come on now. I don't think Death would be a fan of Cal either.
I actually like how you see the DJs both pre/during the apocalypse (serious, scary, not to be fucked with) and after (bored, nothing to do, exposing the essential contradiction). It kinda unifies the horror and comedic strips they've been in. And Deadworld lets them win hard.
>>54084213

And that's just the Judge Dredd stories in 2000AD, not counting the his specials (Restricted Files, 4 vols.), crossovers (Batman, Aliens, Predator, Lobo...), Cass Anderson's stories (The Psi Files, 5 vols.), and the other in-universe spin offs like The Low Life, The Simping Detective, Mega City Undercover, Hondo City Law...
Oh, and don't forget all the other fine 2000AD phonebook collections like the ABC Warriors (Mek Files, 3 Vols.), Nemesis the Warlock (The Complete Nemesis the Warlock, 3 vols.), Ro-Busters, Rogue Trooper (Tales of Nu-Earth, 4 Vols.), Sam Slade: Robo-Hunter (2 vols, I think) Strontium Dog (Search/Destroy Agency Files, 4 vols.)...
There's a lot of really cool material, is what I'm saying. THAT SAID don't feel intimidated by it. Just read whatever you feel like it, there's really no need to do all of them unless you actually want to. Its worth doing at least the first volume (so, four-ish arcs) of Nemesis and I would say Nikolai Dante is worth reading all the way start to finish, but beyond that just do what you want to. I got into them by reading 90s era progs and old Titan editions completely out of order and I got on just fine.
>>54085138

>>54085138
I red whole Nemesis and well... The series was rather OK, but for Torquemadas sake only (great, absurd villain) and was heavy-handed sociopolitical statement.
That's what I like in Judge Dredd- the answer is far from obvious. It's not "oh you rith wung facist" or "yo comme liberulz" and yet sometimes shines with social commentary.
>>54085393
Personally I wouldn't be surprised to see PJ resurface. He's a sneaky little drokker
>>54085516
If you think Nemesis is political you should read Pat Millis' stuff from the 90s. Stuff like Finn, basically Occupy the comic where both the church and all corporations are a front for rapacious alien overlords. Or the time travel Slaine stories, again with the alien overlords and also Robin Hood was totally a feminist yo. Still a lot of fun but zero subtlety.
>>54085664
Pat Mills still does things like that - in 'Requiem Chevalier Vampire' Mother Theresa is reincarnated in Hell as a ghoul and the British turn into gay shit-eating lizard people.
>>54085664
>both the church and all corporations are a front for rapacious alien overlords
You mean to say they're not?
>>54085753
Shhh, the goim may be on board!
>>54085516
Pretty much everything in 2000AD has all the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face. People don't read it for the scintillating political insight.
>>54085516
That's fine, its one of the reasons I suggested the first collected volume particularly. Pat Mills' writing can be very much an acquired taste and a lot of his late 80s and 90s output was even less subtle about making a point than usual. Plus you get the most Kevin O'Neil art in the first few books and its a phenomenal piece of work.
>>54085515
The first panel of that part >>54077915 is really good as well, because in the context of the preceding page and the cover you realise you're seeing it from Fear's point of view. You can tell from the body language of Psiren and Gates just how much Fear bothers them even though he is ostensibly there to help them.
>>54085323
Looking at it, we've actually got space here to do it all and it does tie directly into the Fall. We'll do Sinister Dexter in its own thread next time, but I've put up the story of Moses Tanenbaum for this anon here >>54080704 now
http://www.mediafire.com/file/6upyhc4owjd7lqa/2000AD_%23988-989_Sinister_Dexter_-_The_Eleventh_Commandment.cbr
So, Boyhood of a Superfiend.
In 1990 2000AD had a very long event story in the vein of the Apocalypse War called “Necropolis”, which saw the Dark Judges take over Mega City One and lead to the deaths of sixty million of its citizens. Although (spoiler alert) order was eventually restored, Death himself escaped capture.
Later that year, issue #1 of the Judge Dredd Megazine was released. Alongside the first episode of the classic story “America”, another began - Judge Death: Boyhood of a Superfiend. This was what fans of the Dark Judge had been waiting years for – the story of how Death came to be. It was... not what they were expecting.
>>54086005
I do think that the whole arc from Kraken -> The Dead Man -> Necropolis is proobably my favourite arc that I've read in the binging of dredd
You can rely on Mega City One's industrious citizens to always, always rob a mass burial pits when the opportunity presents itself, no matter how often something like this happens.
>>54086054
The Dead Man was really interesting because it was running side-by-side the main story and for the longest time there was no indication that the two were connected. The impact is lost a bit now, but at the time it was amazing. Something similar was done later for Trifecta.

>>54086500
It's good they did those all Deadworld comics, especially previous ones. Dark Judges became comic characters. This one did a bit to revert it but a very tiny one.
More familiar faces.
>>54086546
This is actually one of the stories that's pointed to as accelerating the change towards turning the Dark Judges into comedy characters, what with the comedy landlady and childhood as a plug ugly child with a nice upbringing. Judge Death and the boys actually appeared in startlingly few issues considering their impact - after their debut in 1980 and 1981 there were only a handful of outings for the next ten years, which is a vanishingly small amount considering 2000AD runs weekly. They appeared more post-Necropolis and got less and less threatening each time, something John Wagner came to regret. That prompted Wilderness Days in the 00s and then much longer delays between appearances again.
Two chicks at the same time, man.
As I've previously mentioned quite a lot of the events of this story are seen from a different perspective in Half-Life, while Fall of Deadworld expands upon it again. The inconsistencies between the three different stories have led some people to think that the Deadworld in 'Fall' is actually a separate dimension again where the events are unfolding again in a similar fashion.
>>54086865
I had precaution (after reading this) that Deadworld is just the Earth's future after Justice Department widely adapted Joe Dredd's ol' hardline-power-to the-judges stance and differences are there because of the gap between the reality and the Death's memory.
It makes no sense now, still seeing how the amount of amount failing/crooking judges seems increase with each prog...
>>54086936
The differences are easily explained by Death giving a bias and incomplete account. As much is I'd like to see Fairfax and co survive I don't think they are going to make it
>>54086978
Well, there is more to existence than just life in the series and there is spirits of the earth that are not inherently malevolent.
I'll admit, I'd love to see a spirit judge kick about Judge Death.
>>54086690
Does death show up again after wilderness days, as it seems a fairly final thing for him there.
Or is it just the other 3 that make returns?
>>54086978
You are right probably.
And I think it's right. Death and his guys deserve showing they mean buisness even tho they started to run away every time Joe Dredd hits dirt in their vincity.
>>54087021
Happened in The Wilderness Days, check it out.
>>54086978
That's another option. Death's very partial account, filtered through Skutter's hackery. The relevant parts of Half-Life could also simply be dismissed asa fiction to trap Cass or her unconscious mind filling in the gaps in the fantasy, with any 'accurate' details only there by accident.
Fairfax and co. are almost certainly on their way out, but like >>54087021 mentions there's more to it than just this life. Simply killing Fairfax and Jess might just be counterproductive in the long run. After all, "You cannot kill what doess not live" and in the second ever Judge Death story they were actually defeated by the extremely pissed off souls of Deadworld obliterating them. Were it not for the unholy powers of reader popularity and writer fiat they might have been put down for good.
>>54087065
I'd have to check, but I'm fairly certain the next appearance of Fear, Fire and Mortis was in Day of Chaos and then Death came back without a whole lot of explanation in Dark Justice. As of right now they're all hurtling through the void of space
>>54087167
Okey. So, th Half Life is in the Anderson Case files?
>>54087209
Yep, Psi Files Volume 4 and the very start of Volume 5. Arthur Ranson (Mazeworld, Button Man) on the art throughout.
>>54087067
They have jobbed pretty consistently in the past. Knowing that they won't this time goes a long way towards making them threatening again

Are you me from the /co/ storytime of this Shakaranon
So, I wanted to MG a Joe Dredd rpg sesion.
I always thought that the most important factor in Judge's job is time.
Let's let that sink. It's kinda tonned down of late, with Volt's reforms judges even get FREE TIME. But look on typical early Joe Dredd day: work work work 10 mins in the sleep machine, revert the tape.
On patrol you are mostly alone. Not only no backup (bar most dire situations- and even then three minutes of waiting is 3:50 to late) but also no help in asserting creep's guiltiness. You knock guy unconcious and while you utter sentence to control, you are already on your way to the next prep's apointment with nightstick.
To conduct an investigation is one thing. But to conduct it while you got a quater of a hour (filled with "ARV in progress, juve gang, Judge Anon respond...") between futsie going nuts with a cooking laser and a blitzer's bloody attack on mafia hideout in your vincity- that's other thing.
And after 12 hours of that you get 10 minutes with your boots on and the game is on again.
That could make pretty intense sesion. You give players their sector's map (or better- design it with them) and let them play it out against planned happenings and random events whlist metaplot plays in the backdrop- leading to the fitting finale.
Still, it would demand folks to know some of the setting. To grasp that selling spices constitutes capital ofence, what a simp is, blitzer's blow up while they give up and so on...
So is there a Case file book that would explain Mega City judge's modus operandi well?
>>54087975
The Pit is the most procedurally focused of the big Dredd stories definitely a good place to start for some insight into the daily life of a street judge.
>>54088361
I thought about it. But I'm afraid that much of it is important because we can relate- we know that in the old progs most of those guys wolud be brain-fried or sent to Titan.
>>54088437
I don't think so. And generally, things are easier on the Judges these days - they have mandatory real sleep a couple of times a month alongside their sleep machines, rejuve is much better, they actually get some level of free time (they always have when it was plot convenient to be fair, look at Dredd's apartment). As you point out yourself.
If you really want to trigger your street Judge players let one of the group play a Psi (all those extra privileges!) and/or someone on an academy fast-track. Hershey herself was supposed to have been pulled off the street and fast-tracked to strategy, she declined.
>>54086936
This is partly backed up in this story in how the Sisters talk about Death/the Dark Judges as part of a greater, cosmic-scale whole.
That and the fact that Jess' mom is Cassandra, if she's supposed to be *that* Cassandra, might be the biggest hints this is a different Deadworld. But it's equally possible it is the same one and this is just a different take/through a different filter.
>>54087975
>But look on typical early Joe Dredd day: work work work 10 mins in the sleep machine, revert the tape.
I'm not a huge comics reader - my biggest exposure to Dredd was about 30 volumes of the Mega Collection which I grabbed out a charity shop for £50 - but isn't Dredd an exception in this regard? Most Judges still get a proper night's sleep in a shared barracks. The sleep machines are just for emergencies when they need every helmet on the go 24-7 or for the ultra-hardcore like Dredd.
>>54089658
Most judges use sleep machines more often than natural sleep, but they're required to do a certain minimum (and might be able to do more) of natural sleep.
>>54085963
The fact that nobody has made 28mm scale heads in the style of terminators from Nemesis, is sad. I'm sure some would love to make some space marines to purge the alien filth. Especially now that we have DW rules.
>>54089658
>isn't Dredd an exception in this regard?
He's an exception in that he's stayed a street judge for so long, and in how good he is, but I'm pretty sure all of them have similarly grueling schedules.
>>54089945
You should mention it over at frothers. Should get quite a few "oh hell yes", with a distant but not entirely zero chance of "uhm, come back in a month and there will be something legally completely different for sale".
>>54089945
I'm going to give it a shoot on some old Warzone miniatures (templars). The bodies suit and their small, bald heads are non intrusive base for hoods.
Not good, but well- most of my hand-sculpted figures are not much to look on either- and old Warzone has the proper level of "wacky".
>>54087975
So what system should one use for Judge Dredd?
I was looking for the old GW one- (humour is a thing one has to bring to the table anyway) but to no avail...

Its definitely showing its age these days, but still worth a look. Think of it as a precursor to the Warhammer rpgs. The more recent Mongoose one is easier to find and should also work with the Strontium Dog RPG books. If I recall correctly it also has notes on the average workday of a Judge, which >>54087975 might find helpful.

"Nothing but work and duty oppersing the rest of society for the greater good"
Literally Orwellian party taken to the utmost extreme. Heroic.
>>54091315
And that's the Joe... and joke as well.
Dredd is the single piece of working facist. Everyone else is corooked one or the other way... and the system is kept afloat because there is a legend to uphold it and set some things right (even if you won't get anywhere by going in that direction).
Dredd is a true dictator of Meg- there is no bigwig to opose him when he stands firm. He's dedicated, he has no flaw... apart form the system he serves.
Judical rule that can't slove any of the problems, can only prolong humanity's visit on it's own deathbed. And why? Because it's not their job. They won't let anyone fix it and won't fix them themself.
>>54091460
>Everyone else is corooked one or the other way
Nope!
>Dredd is a true dictator of Meg
Nope!
>there is no bigwig to opose him when he stands firm
Nope!
>He's dedicated, he has no flaw
Nope!
Also you seem to be using "working" in the sense of like "in this one situation and one person, fascism works" and that'a big nope as well. None of this shit is true of the wider scope of Mega-City One stories anon.
>>54091315
They are cops. They won't let you elect your own goverment... But they also don't let you get stuffed when you suddenly got stupid and go for a midnight stroll.
As in >>54091315 -they are not evil, they are simply efficient machines that were put in place of power when previous system killed 95% of humanity in voting scam including nuclear war. They are there, because there is no sane alternative.
>>54091528
>They are there, because there is no sane alternative.
Yeah. That's the thing about the Judges. Totalitarian rule isn't pleasant, but this is a setting where democracy not only failed dramatically, the bulk of the populace no longer really supports it. When they were given a chance to vote the Judges out of power, the majority of Mega-City 1's citizens didn't even bother to vote at all. And given how unstable the Mega-Cities are, it's doubtful anything other than an iron fist could keep them from tearing themselves apart.
>>54091497
In general you are somewhat right, but missed my point. I tried to explain why it's not some simple orvellian facist. Still, I'm really interested to see your side of it.
>>Everyone else is corooked one or the other way
>Nope!
Who then? De Marco is a hipocrite that throws out a pregnant judge, Silver turned out to be coward when it counted, McGruder turned into murderous loon that barely made resignation before she was rip from paranoic dementia, SJS are universally portrayed as out-of-touch sadists, so are the desk-working judges. Longer Dredd looks on his fellows (and older he gets), more crooks come out. Hershey or Anderson, best shots for a decent person, aren't they? they are, but do they believe in this system? Are they kept there by much more than "someone has to be sane in there"? Hershey is mentioned to be chief liberal, the head of those who believe in handing power back to the people. Anderson would get brain operation if she weren't psi. Who's a honest believer in that system? Dredd only. System prevails, because he's there, like that gruddamned statue of juggment.
>>Dredd is a true dictator of Meg
>Nope!
Oh, he would not touch the power. But anytime his decision about "right" or "wrong" differs, he has his way- even tho sometimes has it the hard way. He accepts the autority, but these are the cases he does not really care 'bout. He would not win popularity contest- but not many dictators would, while he dispressed Second Democratic March by sheer force of autority.
>>there is no bigwig to opose him when he stands firm
McGruder? Insane, everyone but crooks support Dredd. J. D. Hoover? Dredd gets his way everytime. Who?
>>He's dedicated, he has no flaw
Maybe not anymore as much in the beggining, but I can tell you- your humble street juve sees no big difference. He is the Law incarnated. And he won't bend- he may only sometimes make some room for justice (but don't count on that when you buy tea, preps).
>>54091872
>Longer Dredd looks on his fellows (and older he gets), more crooks come out.
Because "Judge Bloggs, who just does his job" doesn't make for astounding reading. The focus will always be drawn to extreme cases - heroic super-judges like Dredd, or corrupt/incompetent sleazeballs who threaten what stability the Megas have. You have to look past that and accept what the setting tells us is happening in the background as well as shows us what's happening in the narrative.
>>54091872
I don't want to get too into this really dude but it sounds like you're talking about the 2000AD/Megazine of some time ago. Hershey is no longer the "power to the people" figure, you miss out Judge Beeny entirely, Dredd has been overruled multiple times both by authority and empathic appeal - Hershey has overruled him, their relationship is much more frayed than it was. And Dredd definitely does have flaws. Shit if Dredd weren't Dredd not only would he not have gotten Dolman off the hook for murder, but if he'd tried he probably would have been under judicial investigation.

>>54091940
>>54091983
Actually, that are very good points. Will have to catch up with my reading after payday. Still I think that's it's really hard to point many "hardline" judges.
I know that Dredd fills the gap storywise... Still, it seems best judges are the ones who do not outlive their panel.
>>54092067
I think Giant and Beeny are probably your biggest 'good guy' judges that are still human beings.
Hershey has mostly been done a disservice in 2000AD stories lately, because part of Dredd's character is he conflicts with bookish authority and Hershey is at the top of that authority. It's sad to see because their relationship was a strong part of writing for both characters, and it's been mostly sacrificed for "You're wrong, I AM the Law" kinda shit like you mention.
>>54092119
Aw, that's sad. Dredd & Hershey was propably the best played out Dredd's relation with a woman. That silent stare-down panel in The City of the Dammned after which her alternate-future/reality-vampire-self (welcome to ol' brit sci-fi) just says: "Never been big on romances, huh?"
That with all other, have shown me better and more suitable stuff than whole DeMarco arc.

Judge /d/eath
Reading 2 people in the thread discussing the universe from different stand points is pretty interesting.
Especially the discussion of where mistakes have been made.
With something that has been going for so long, with so many different writers, it's got to be impossible for anyone to like everything.
Never mind trying to piece together character histories when they have been through so many hands and so many stories needing different things.
>>54092587
2000AD definitely does a better job with it than a lot of long-term continuity comics do but yeah, things can get fucked up easily. You could probably find a Dredd panel somewhere to contrast any other Dredd panel somewhere else. And in a lot of ways this Tales of Deadworld thing is realigning the Dark Judges to be real, Necropolis-era threats again so people do work on the continuity itself over time.
>>54092290
The Dredd/Beeny interaction is great. Beeny is the kid of America Beeny from the America storyline. She becomes a judge, accelerated through the academy, and chooses Dredd as her investigative assessor.
What's some good music to play while reading this?
I listen to dark ambient stuff:

Instant /tg/ example would be to look at the mess that is Warhammer 40k lore and there is a decade less of that than 2000AD.
2000AD have indeed done a fairly good job.

Afaik Judge Dredd writers love parodying popular media. So out of curiosity, was there ever a Life on Mars parody with Judge Dredd?

Agree with this, Nikolai Dante is very much worth reading start to end. Sinister Dexter is another good one. For the 40k people in the room, Durham Red will probably give you a lot of imagery you'll like

Hunh. Learn something new every day.
>This interesting and unusual name has a number of possible origins. Firstly, it can be of early medieval English origin, and one of a sizeable group of modern surnames that were created from nicknames given to someone who played the part of a personified figure - in this case, the figure of Death - in a pageant or medieval mystery play. Other such names surviving today are King, Knight and Angel. The derivation of the modern surname 'Death' from this source is from the Middle English 'de(e)th', death, from the Old English pre 7th Century 'death'. Secondly, the surname may be a medieval metonymic occupational name for a gatherer or seller of kindling wood, tinder, derived from the Middle English 'dethe', fuel, tinder, from the Old English 'dyth'. Lastly, but unlikely to be the source for many modern bearers of the name, it may be of Belgian locational origin, with the fused preposition 'de', from 'Ath'. The name can be found as Death, Deeth, Dearth, D'Eath, D'Eathe, De'Ath and D'Aeth.

What's the difference between Progs and Megs?
How would I subscribe to 2000AD in Canada?
Does anyone have Slaine Books of INvasions 3 (Scota)?
The big torrent I got my books from is missing this one.
>>54094165
Nevermind, found it.
Anyone an post a link to Restricted and Psi files?
The discussion between the two (?) anons above was really interesting. Not going to get involved, but I found this in a file and thought you both might find it worth reading. No idea where it was originally from, but from the dates and references it would have been published in the early 90s. The other thing I would say is that when he writes his scripts, John Wagner (who's written more for Dredd than anyone else on the planet) writes either "Dredd as Hero" or "Dredd as Villain" at the top of the page to guide the direction of the story. What makes his Dredd a compelling character for me is that he can be both while remaining consistent throughout.

A Prog is an issue of 2000AD, the weekly comic with all new material. A Meg is an issue of the Judge Dredd Megazine, which comes out monthly. Meg's are substantially longer but have more reprinted material (not necessarily a bad thing, but be aware of it) and more magazine type content than simply strips. I'm not sure what your best bet for subscribing in Canada would be, but I suspect a digital subscription would be the most economical solution

You could email Rebellion directly, or ask at a local comic shop.

We must be alternate universe doppelgangers. As we're obviously destined to either kill each other or team up. Or both.
We have just enough room left in this thread for one more story (especially now that I've stuck half the pages together). This one's another Christmas special, showing what would happen if old Stoney Face had never existed and features. With dear old Sssidney in the role of Clarence, this is

That's some hot Hershey chocolate right there.
And that's yer lot. Good night anons, and Grudd willing we'll be able to do at least some of the slick cyberpunk action of Sinister Dexter tomorrow.
>>54095676
Now that was pretty silly.
>>54095689
I've read a few of the Sinister Dexter stuff and I don't get why it's called cyberpunk. It's more mafia hitman.
>>54095702
It is about that, but then you've also got all these criminal lowlifes with access to ludicrous amounts of military hardware, corporations with the power and of small nations, lots of consumer grade cyberware like Dexter's TV eyes, magical hacking and a wireless underworld where you can buy a hit as easily as ordering takeout. The lingo is also helpful for stuff like Shadowrun and Cyberpunk 2020.
