How do you handle abnormally large (6+ people) groups?

Do the bare minimum for planning. Let them bicker amongst themselves instead of railroading them
Agree on a caller and a mapper, delegate decisions to the group.
Consider dividing the players into two or more smaller groups.

The same way I deal with 3-4 people groups.Luck.

Play a quick, simple system instead of a lumbering crunchfest.
Have some loose character creation guidelines to help form a cohesive party of player characters. E.g say "everyone needs to have a character who'd be genuinely invested in protecting this city we'll be starting in". With large groups it's increasingly likely you'll get antithetical Donut Steels if you don't head that shit off early.
Be especially proactive in not letting the one or two most dominant personalities hog all the spotlight. Try to encourage clear character roles to this end (this is always possible to some degree, even if via GM fiat, but it's not easy in all scenarios or systems).
If there's an obvious That Guy, when they pull their bullshit give them a single warning before kicking them out of the game.

Why are these people so fat?

Adding to your post, Dungeon World sounds like a good match. If one players hogs the spotlight and does everything, they also run the highest risk of failure/hindrance/death.
Apocalypse World might be better (did it mark XP for failures?) but I haven't played it.

Typically a death match battle royale style will pare down the number of players to a more manageable 4-6 within 30 minutes. You can provide knives, forks and clubs if necessary.

Six people is a large and not suggested but it`s still manageable because you basically handle it like a five man.
Seven is the tipping point of too many. HOWEVER at that point you have eight (7 + DM) people at the table. Congrats, now you have enough for two 3 party groups and 2 DMs.
Basically Six is the largest group that can (should) ever happen.
