I don't see how the Aquila represents the Emperor's sacrifice. Skulls make a lot more sense for that and the martyr cult that is the Imperial religion and culture. Makes more sense than it being universal to humanity.

In this case I imagine the skulls serve a similar purpose to Chaplain's helmet and for terror tactics. Renegade and Chaos worshiping humans are going to be scared of skull masks, possibly Tau and Craftworld Eldar Guardians too.

They just aren't squatting as much. They aren't really any taller.

Plague Marines, and to a lesser extent Rubric Marines, are both taller than old marinelets, even accounting for the squat. Primaris are obviously quite a bit larger.

I don't think they'll redo the entire range, but the primaris are clearly intended to be the next generation of generic marines. They wouldn't be opening with Tactical Marines v2.0 otherwise. A lot of the older crap just won't ever get new models and will eventually be phased out. Rhinos look absurdly undersized once a full squad of chad marines pop out.

I know the game is a joke, it always has been, but adding powers to it removes the need for any skill one can gain at playing the game, because the fucking ultimates are basically a "fuck you you're dead" button, any skill at aiming movement or otherwise is completely unnecessary the people who win are the people who get the most of those off regardless of game mode.

TF2 has some of those as well. Level 3 turrets, sniper headshots, etc.

All you have to do is make the instant kill based either skill based via something like trajectory or timing, or reduce their ridiculous hitbox. Their hitboxes are so huge and they are so good as instant kill buttons because Blizzard is all about accessibilities. Hitting a pixel headshot or landing a skillshot is HARD for most gamers except the avid hardcore specialists of the genre. That's why they have shit like auto aim or full screen RYUUGATEKIWOKURAU

That was my point, but turrets can be circumvented and have ways to counter them as i recall, most things do in TF2, most people also don't have the skill at aiming to get headshots consistently. Blizzard saw how popular TF2 is and was, and decided lets give this more unique characters and "balance it out" with an instakill button for everybody. I've hated blizzard and their shitty practices ever since WoW turned to shit after the fireball patch, and especially after the debacle of Diablo 3.

I this is sort of a turning point.

They've broken the taboo of not changing the design of power armour.
With the new scout guys, the path is cleared for even more Reasonable-marine designs.
I expect new kinds of power armour to be fairly common now and I expect a retcon of the original power armour design to follow from that.

This might be good for a while, but if 40k gets a gradual visual redesign every 10 years now it's going to end up like every other generic sci fi thing.
The stupid proportions and chubby impracticality was holding back 40k but it was also anchoring it with a strong visually identity.

I have the same opinion too. You might be able to fix the skulls by painting in details to make it look like real skull (i.e. painting in the individual teeth, random bone-like lines, etc) but it'd be pretty tough as it's so small.
