Why would someone not pick Dual Talons on a Daemon Prince? It's 10 points for 7/8 AP-2 D2 attacks. That's insanely cheaper than any other option.

Nope for some reason some guys have rules without models like Rough Riders

Parasite of Mortrex pls nu-GW
>>
>>53998324
But the model officially exists, there's a few more units like that scattered across other books.
I personally use Vargeist wings.
>>
So thoughts on the Thunderfire Cannon in this edition?

I want to get some artillery for my marines, but the 4d3 attacks seem a bit iffy, especially with no blasts.
>>
>>53998324
maybe they will release them in the near future
>>
>>53998407
This once great anti-horde weapon is no longer an auto-include. 4D3 hits just doesn't clear cheap blobs like four blast templates used to. This gun also previously had 3 firing modes, but now only has one. This was once the best artillery outside of Forge World that marines had. Now it is second to the Whirlwind. With all the taxes that a TFC has to take -- paying for the Techmarine, gun, and TFC chassis separately, it manages to cost more than the cheaper Whirlwind variant while having one less Strength. Ignores line of sight. Just remember that if the Techmarine gunners wander too far from the guns, they're considered destroyed.

That is at least what 1d4chan says and i agree with it
>>
>>53998324
I always thought they were forgeworld models/conversion kits
>>
What's the best god to run mono-god daemons with? I've been deciding between Tzeentch and Nurgle as I have no interest in Slaanesh and Khorne I've been told is very squishy but does a ton of damage
>>
>>53998324
Nids will be getting some new models within the next year (or so) anyway, so they will probably get released then
>>
>>53998447
Aye, I was originally considering since my army is essentially all troops and characters with two dreadnoughts on the way.

Getting free models from mates has biased my current options

Want to expand my current selection with a predator or Vindicator, though the d3 attack weapon over guaranteed number of attacks still worry me.

That leaves a position for artillery and though loving the look of the thunderfire cannon and hating the look of the whirlwind, the difference in function is depressing.
>>
>>53998466
yeah but they dissapeared in 2012
>>
>>53998509
Spewin, they are a great unit that i wish got a proper release.

I genuinely think its an error on their part.

Either sword/axe need to be cheaper or talons need to go up. Same sort of issue with Power Scourge vs Helbrute fist. Fist is decent but Scourge has the magic number against so many enemy types and more attacks that the few situations where the fist has an advantage its marginal while the situations where the scourge has advantages its much better.
>>
>>53998325
Because it's blatantly seeing a huge price hike whenever the first wave of rebalance happens for that very reason

til then, talons all day

HAHAHHAHA

>>53998649

I have a friend who made a renegade army for fun but he played it like twice in 7th, he's in it for the conversions
>>
>>53998290
How are Deffkoptas this edition? I think they seem really overpriced for what they can actually do. 83pts just seems like a lot if you consider how little firepower and how easily they die.
>>
>>53998690
Right now they're kind of a mess. They work fine if you just want to run them as normal imperial guard, but they had a really strong tourney list last edition by loading up on those quad-gun heavy support options they get for cheap
>>
>>53998690
They're just a much worse version of guard right now.
>>
>>53998357
Because you dropped yours.
>>
>>53998704
wow. thats more expensive than a motherfucking carnifex
>>
>>53998649
But R&H is still good!

>Valkyrie with 12 Malefic Lords. (assume FAQ or ERRATA to fix transport rules). 490 points
>Reserve 1510 points for summoning
>Guaranteed to go first, since this is only one drop, and it is tournament legal, since all units in your army are deployed on the battlefield
>First turn, move anywhere on the battlefield, and drop all 12 malefic lords
>Malefic lords can still move, so they can still summon (Probably requires an FAQ, but that's the RAW)
>Summon up to 1500 points (can do this with below average summoning rolls) straight up your opponent's ass.

I don't think any army could handle a first turn deep strike of a 1500 point army in their flank/ass.

>>
>>53998731
well deffkoptas are a lot tougher now with t5 and 4 wounds and they get their bombs for free.

but for 83pts you can get a lot.
>>
>>53998704
Even though orks as a whole are good now, I'm a little sad the deffkoptas are so expensive. I used to use them as screening and easy objective grabbers because they were so fast and were only 30 pts, but the fact that they come standard with a Bomm now means they are too pricey to use them how I used to. Its a shame, they were one of my favorite units.

There is literally no benefits to going raw renegade over IG in this edition.

No special rules, no awesome units, no unique tactics.

Less an worse wargear, worse ogryns, worse characters, worse LD, worse psy powers,

no orders and nothing to replace it, no good chaos marks or chaos devotions, no options.

Nothing in their army supports "hordes", nothing in their army lends themselves to heavy artillery, nothing in their army gives bonuses to elite infantry.

some of their "characters" don't even have the CHARACTER keyword so they get raped by lascannons on T1.

No dataslate in their army is good, it's not even average. It's BAD.

And this is BEFORE powerc creep has been added to the game.

This is BEFORE armies get REAL codexes.

This is after realizing that they will probably NEVER GET A CODEX until the next edition.

>>53998740
You count as having moved and to summon, you need to have not moved.
>>
>>53998789
Raw Renegade is Chaos, which offers you summoning, and other chaos features.
>>
>>53998795
I heard summoning was shit now tho
>>
>>53998794
No. Summoning says "Instead of moving". The rule for disembarking says the model may still move normally. Ergo, instead of moving normally, a disembarked model can still summon.

It will need to be clarified, but RAW, I'm completely right.
>>
>>53998795
do they have the daemonic ritual special rule ?

also summoning is shot
>>
>>53998740

>put units in a Valkyrie for no reason

1500p in deepstrike is nothing.

Have you been under a rock for the last week ?

Imperial guard, genestealers, tyranids even fucking greyknights.

They all can do it without failing summoning rolls and without your unnecessary idiotic Valkyrie
>>
>>53998814
You don't need the Daemonic Ritual special rule to summon. Daemonic Ritual is the special rule that defines what can be summoned.

>>53998807
Summoning is fixed. It isn't the source of free units it was before, but it is a source of precision deep striking list tailoring units. Since most Daemon armies will struggle against shooting, I think summoning is a key part of any successful daemon strategy (since it gives you a better chance to avoid shooting). Summoning, and Heldrakes.
>>
>>53998809
And disembarking counts as having moved.

You didn't move sure, same with heavy weapons. You still hit with -1 though. And you still can't summon.
>>
>>53998835
No army in the game other than chaos daemons can deep strike 1500 points in a 2000 point list while guaranteeing 1st turn. And you literally can't fail summoning this edition unless you choose to, there are several units with power 2 or 3.

>>53998855
If the unit can move normally, then it can summon. Summoning just replaces the movement in the movement phase with summoning. For instance, if for some crazy reason, you had a Chaos Sister of Battle that used her act of faith to move, she would still be able to summon.
>>
>>53998855
triple doubles of truth
>>
>>53998795
>which offers you summoning, and other chaos features.

"WOW I CAN SUMMON ANGRON IN UR FACE xD"

Even if you count the Chaos ally matrix as another benefit of renegades("Chaos" uses rengades for tanks, not the other way around moron)); It's still weaker than vanilla, single detachement IG without ally support.

I still think a Thunderfire cannon is worth it if you field one alongside some predators, whirlwinds, and other long-range mostly stationary vehicles. A techmarine is nice to have for the repair, and if you were going to take one anyway the Thunderfire cannon itself is only 58 points, almost half as much as a Whirlwind.

Basically you gotta find a way so that the Techmarine is not a tax.

Aye, really my army needs heavy support, since my current list is;

- Captain in Gravis Armor
- Captain on bike (A kitbash with a spare bike I had)
- Old metal Captain
- Old metal Librarian
- Sargent Telion
- Old metal Apothicary
- Primaris Lieutenants
- Primaris Ancient
- 4x scout squads
- 3x tac squads, soon going to be pushed to 4
- 2x Intercessors
- Hellblasters
- Interceptors
- Bike squad
- Imperial Space Marine (Was a fun kit bash)
- 2 Dreadnaughts
- Soon getting Sergeant Chronus and either a pred or Vindicator, debating which

So obviously my mostly free army is very troop heavy, so I need to get some heavy support, leading to the current debate.

Despite using Ultramarine rules I am painting them/ wanting to fluff them as Storm Wardens with a slightly modified theme

As well as getting a Patrol Detachment’s worth of miniatures for each side, you’ll get rules, your guide to getting started, a gaming mat and card scenery – all for nearly half the price of Dark Imperium. Despoiler is their job, it's what they do not who they are. And those guys won't have infiltrate, just Scout. Like pre-heresy marines did, who scouted in full power armour.
Just without sniper rifles or bolters, but chainsword and pistol.
You know, also like 30k scouts.
Because Guilliman is returning some pre-heresy legions elements to the codex he's ammending.
But considering they're not into sniper rifles and sneaking, but rather going forwards and disrupting, they're despoilers.

Question.

If a model says in the entry it comes stock with weapons X and Y, do I still need to pay up for those weapon options?

And who ever told you Moritats are terror troops?
They're lone killers, they're Rambos at best. And FW thought it'd be cool to give them two pistols.
That's about it.
Not saying Guillyniggy isn't above using stuff like Destroyers armed with rad missiles (despite everyone thinking only the DG used them), but Moritats are not terror troops, no matter how many skulls you paint on their helmets.
In fact, the most prominent primarch that did use them as "fuck them up" operatives was Corvus "I nuke civilians" Corax, who abandoned the war effort and left an Imperial Army group on their own to unleash 30 Moritats to kill a guy hiding over the sun.

Besides, how can they be Troops where you can only bring two or three at best in you whole army?
>it's just that most of 30k is Astartes vs astartes, who ..... ( wait for it).... Know no fear.
Marines in 30k do know fear, and a lot of it, especially because training was sometimes as brief as a single year from being a candidate to being a full marine in armour. Back in the day, marines were still mighty, but mass produced as fuck.
Night lords cause it, but they also have cowardly morale rules and can choose to fall back instead of being pinned (because 30k marines can be pinned). EC suffer further -1 to Ld if their sarge is killed in a challenge. The entire UM legion may be pinned if they lose all their up-to-three HQ dudes, Thousand Sons may also be pinned if one of them perils, etc.

>>
>>54001618

I don't think so, Anon. As a Kriegger myself it's a bit frustrating, but my understanding is there are no infantry units from the core index that you can take in a DKOK army anyway (everything in the side bar includes vehicles barring the master of ordnance).

I'm not quite sure how detachment mixing works -- for instance, I believe as it stands you can make an army that contains any units from any list as long as they share a common keyword (In this case, Krieggers and AM share Imperium and Astra Militarum) so you could include non-Krieg infantry but can't give them the Krieg keyword, therefore they do NOT get Cult of Sacrifice, nor +3 WS.

Exactly like that.
Example: you can bring a Ministrorum priest and he will buff your Krieg squads because he affects people from the Astra Militarum faction, which the Krieg <Regiment> is from.
You can also bring an Officer of the Fleet and Vendettas, as well as Psykers, Ogryns and Ratling mutants that the Krieg absolutely hate, but those won't be part of the <Krieg>. But you can bring them.
I dont remember if you can embark people from other regiments in their transports, though. Probably says in the main rulebook but I don't remember.

Would a grey Knights box give me good parts for deathwatch models for more variety?
>>

Never
>>
>>54002268

Mm, but doesn't the Grey Knights box only have 5 models but come with parts to make 4 different units?
>>
>>54002289
You can make 4 different units with it because those 4 different units share the exact same wargear. The difference is the amount of heavy weapons (purgation squad) backpack (interceptors) or if you paint their helmets white (purifiers)
>>
>>54002289
Yeah, but they can all potentially use the same weapons, just in different amounts. One unit uses the Jump Packs but can be kitted out exactly like the Strike Squad, Purifiers can have 2 big guns instead of 1 per 5, but otherwise look exactly like Strike Squads, and Purgators are just Strike Squads with 4 guns per 5 instead of 1.
>>
>>54002289
This means nothing. The IG infantry box can be used to make four different units and it has basically no options at all.

I think that the gameplay design philosophy of no melee, no psykers, only shooting combined with high-mobility low-durability units is straight toxic from a game design standpoint.

They make the gameplay so damn binary: either kill enough with shooting or lose, either dance away from charges or die. There no back and forth, its "does the Tau alpha strike and subsequent shooting wipe enough of the enemy or do they reach the Tau and kick their teeth in?"

The solution is really fucking obvious: Tau need to have presence in close combat. They don't need to be good at it they just need to have kroot maybe do damage while they get torn through like a foot through a wet sack of shit or have the suits have melee options to be able to dive into melee to finish heavily weakened units or to deny charge.

The shift from jump-shoot-jump to "be durable enough to maybe retreat next turn"(HA!) was a good start but GW is so fucking set on selling their obtuse fucking wannabe mechas that they just ignore that Tau is the only army thats supposed to be primarily a coalition or different aliens.

There is no problem with Tau that can't be easily fixed by introducing more auxiliary aliens with specific non-toxic gameplay niches.

Except the weeb part, that shit is hopeless.

Not him, but what other word would you use instead of replying with a meme? And does it even matter that he used the word toxic in the correct context? Toxic being defined/synonymous with harmful, virulent, other words that still mean "bad for X situation". Shit, I play Tau and even I think the playstyle is harmful to the game. Sure, let them be focused on shooting, but don't put all the eggs in one basket. Kroot and (hopefully other Xenos) should be the melee/close quarter arm of the T'au while the actual blueberries sit back and fire, leaving their subservient races to the wolves.

As soon as GW stopps suddenly pulling thier license. No AAA conpany will touch it if it can vanish on a whim.

> Relic
> WH online could have been WoW, Blizzard and all, if they'd just let it happen.
> BOOM! Comics got thier shit pulled right before comic-con 2010.

It goes on. Gears would have been good with a scout/shoota re-skin, Battlefield had mods for it, an Orky Twisted Metal would be fun. But if the game a company sunk time and money into can vanish on somebody else's say so from across an ocean, nobody can take that risk. Big companies play it safe, and GW's IP is not a safe bet.

Better than Warmachine:Tactics though.

>Unless they're a Deathrider COMMAND squad (that also lacks a regimental/platoon standard, WTF FW?!)
It would have been cool if the Death Riders command squad could carry regimental banners.

But well the good thing about Krieg Riders is that they are a good melee option since they lack auxiliars like ogryns, though Grenadiers with the "Rape them!" order can can be pretty useful.
