PDF Share Thread # 72

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Thread replies: 327
Thread images: 57

It's Da Archive™ !
It Will Be The Best 9 Hours Of Your Gaming Career!
STEP 1 Go to the last thread if you haven't looked at it. there is lots of stuff, including filled requests directly posted to the board. >>53880572
Files posted directly to 4chan are not added to Da Archive, so go grab them now.

STEP 2 Grab your Documents: Da Archive is multiple documents.

STEP 4 Get comfortable and browse through the blasted thing. It is only about 100 pages long. If you skim over the Personal Collections without looking you will miss 7,000 pdfs.

STEP 7 If you want MORE, the previous threads are all archived in here:
http://archive.4plebs.org/tg/search/subject/PDF%20share/
There are other 4chan archives somewhere as well.
7chan might also be able to help.

STEP 42
Please give as much information as you can when you make a request. The more information you give (cover, a link to product, name of designer/writer/publisher) - the more chances someone might recognize it and upload it.
>>
P.S. - Remember, We are Better than all of the rest of the horrible internet and Good Manners ALWAYS gets more results. Wise up or please go elsewhere.

STEP Zillion Please post dead links and I will remove them to keep the archive up to date. Be specific - Include a Page Number -, there are dozens of copies of some Pdfs.

STEP: the Next. If you have a fancy pdf that has unwanted clutter on it, here is one way to clean it.
Contact our resident Transmutation Wizard and politely ask him to clean a pdf. He will set his scrying device to accept pdfs and then you ship it to him. Magic occurs, then the pdf is purified.
[email protected]
By the way, Thanks Mageguru, you're the Best!

STEP: 33 1/3 Anons could also help by going through the lists and checking for dead links and notifying the board. This is mentioned again because it really helps us out.

Please ONLY POST OPEN SOURCE PDFS DIRECTLY IN THIS THREAD. Link the others from elsewhere. Excessive infractions could cause TPTB to remove the ability to post any pdfs at all.
Check for copyrights before you post anything directly.

Extra Special Thanks to the Anon Brigade who do ALL of the digging, loading, and posting.

Anon Suggests “Where to U.p.l.o.a.d.”
“S3ndsp@ce, which I prefer, U53rscl0ud or M3G4 for large collections. Protonmail is a free and easy disposable anon email.”
“Mega is relatively safe, you would have to be an extremely flagrant repeat offender before notice would be taken past anything other than a take-down.
I've never heard of an ISP getting involved unlike trackable torrents and that is mostly because of Hollywood money. With Mega you get 50 gigs with each standard free account.
It has functions for uploading a whole folder at a time, including everything inside it. So you just select like "A, B, and C" and it does the rest.”
Other sites used here recently include vztur1, $nip<d0t>li, and An0n<d0t>to.

Anon Says:
Do you want to help the archive? but you are too poor to buy pdfs or unable to fill requests?
Then start duplicating the collections here. Get yourself an upload account, save everything you like and put it back online on your account. The more who do this, the easier these files will be to find, and the safer they will be if a big collection gets taken down. Especially if you hear that a file is rare when it gets uploaded. “

If you like a game you are welcome to tell us why you like it. Feel free to add links to reviews, and such. We are here to learn about new games.
Give us your best elevator pitch.

The first 5 pages of Da Archive have the most of the older ‘un -maintained’ troves.
The best thing is to go through them all soon and get what pdfs interest you.

I think specific smaller curated troves are easier to maintain than huge Collections.
Check out Da Curated Archive to see what's in it.
Pick a game or small publisher you like that’s not too big and complete it as best you can easily.
Upload the pdfs somewhere. Hunt for and request the missing things. If it gets taken down, put it up again later. Using indirect links seems to work for Mageguru.

Step 45 Da Archivist Does Not Have An Opinion. He logs Garbage and Gold equally.
Please be respectful and don't belittle others' requests because you dislike the game. Imagine the horrific RPGs I've run across; 'Dragon Dildo Warriors', ‘Cheeto Fingered Gods of Angst’, and 'We're All Little Girls (Frilly Dresses Are Mandatory At the Table)' spring to mind.

STEP 5 Please be patient with the Irrepressible Urchins™ who request without looking first. They are always a regular feature here. They help bump the thread, and they want to look at something that's not porn. They might even read it. You don't have to answer them, although that also bumps the thread.
You don't kick a puppy for not being housebroken. If they upset you, tell your monitor or your teddy bear. Please don't tell us about it. I understand your frustration, they used to drive me crazy. I would punch my teddy bear.

I agree. I'd suggest you drop the Da Wish List since it doesn't seem to do much good and is just one more thing for you to update. I reckon most of the time, if a request isn't filled in a week or two, then the original requester probably isn't around anymore anyway if it does happen to get filled a few months down the road.

Not your standard request but still /tg/ related, but figured this would be the best place to ask.

Anyone got an archive of the ciaphas cain novels? Specifically the following;

- Old Soldiers Never Die
- A Mug of Recaff
- Hidden Depths
- The Smallest Detail
- The Little Things (eBook)

My usual source for ebooks has been taken offline some time ago, so any points would be handy.
>>
>>53998136

I don't know, it's nice from a completionist angle to have a list of stuff that isn't available yet. Comic scanners do something similar, maintaining lists of old comics to see what DC or Marvel or whatever titles are still not scanned, so their scanning teams can keep an eye out for them.
We're not that organized though.

Um, excuse me?

How many titles have I cleaned and liberated in the last year and a half I think its over 300.

I rarely ever ask for anything specific to be donated to be cleaned. It's not even for me, but for everyone, so it can be liberated cause a ton of people have requested it.

You bunch of ungrateful ignorant leeches. Be aware whom you are sounding off to.

Pissing off people who actually contribute is a good way to stop getting all the new shit you ask for. I've used mage to clean lots of stuff and plenty of mini-troves I run would not exist without them.

You are an adult with a job, a good job. You have money. Hinting that kids should buy stuff for 'muh community' when you won't, is, erm, a little slimey.
You and your gang have done fine work. Don't sully your good deeds by starting to demand that anons feed your machine at their own expense. If they CHOOSE to do so, great! But to put out an imperative statement like you did is NOT great.
tl;dr - You do great work; but you have a job, and you can buy this stuff yourself if you really need it.

Everyone has to play nice for this thing here to work. Contribooters, cleaner(s), trove-anons - hell, even Da Archivist has to be courteous and kind (pretty sure that's his default setting, though).
Expecting people to do your bidding is not cool, no matter if you're a noob /r/equester or an old hack.
>>
>>54020289
There's a difference between "does anyone have" and "would like to see at least" It's the tone of it that is triggering people.
>>
>>54020366
I just think people are getting too bent out of shape.
>>
>>54020153
Thing is I don't need it, nor do I expect anything...

If you noticed the original post, I was to letting people know it was on sale cause it normally is so highly priced to begin with, which has caused it not to be donated yet.

So now that it on sale, those that donate, its actually at a decent price. There was no demand for anything. This is just a highly requested item.

"The would like to see at least" comment is becasue there are 3 different RPG systems that it is out for. And that was the focus of that statement for anyone to imply it was a demand for it, is not my failure.

And don't assume people's financial status.

>I see a number of things missing that are available out there.

Can you provide links to them?

Lots of times in these kinds of threads people go "oh, trove so-and-so is missing some stuff that's available". Okay....well then go extra step and provide links to that stuff so the trove maintainer can update it. They're just normal people that don't necessarily watch every post in every thread on every forum for pirated PDFs.

Provide solutions not just raise problems and then everyone wins. :)
>>
>>54023901

>>

Problem is that I've seen these things not long ago while browsing other troves looking for something else, but I didn't download them or record the links. So I'd have to find them all over again.
But I'll keep an eye out and post next time.
>>
>>54023281
>Srsly.. you can easily find everything else for AM 5e, but for some reason, these last 7 titles don't appear anywhere, even though the last one (Dies Irae) was released more than a year ago....

This is pretty common. Most troves aren't comprehensive, unless they have a pretty active maintainer who goes above & beyond.

Having titles available means someone needs to buy it and make it available. Case in point: despite wanting all of those things (and for quite a while, probably) you haven't done it, either.

With a lot of things, the trove gets seeded when a single person makes 10 or 20 things available...but then new additions never happen or only happen rarely.

Just watching this thread for a while and you see how often things rely on a single person making something available.

Haven't been following the pdf sharing news lately, huh? Suffice to say that thread's survival has been questionable of late.
>>
>>54025250
I check it quite often. There have been many before, and there will be many after. These threads have never survived just because of one person.
>>
>>54024699
Surviving, perhaps, but the fact you didn't see >>53996929 means it isn't growing. Practically (if not literally all) new titles can only be shared once they've been scrubbed. I don't see anyone else both volunteering and performing the service consistently and reliably.

>>
>>54025331
And they cried when a cock amongst men left, and VH, and now they lament MG. The cycle continues. It's the anons who buy all the crap and clean stuff on their own who keep these threads alive.
>>
>>54025405
That gives him the right to call people names and warn them who they are talking to? That gives him the right to post personal info online? I think it's you who needs to check where their head is
>>
>>54025412
When's the last time someone cleaned their own PDF? By my recollection, which could be fallible admittedly, I only see anons re-sharing old files. Even if you can point me to a post or two, I'd bet all the anons combined haven't provided as many clean files as a single tripfag.

As you pointed out, there have been a few come and go, but they're replaced by each other - not by the crowd of anons. I'm not denying that people who provide the files are important, but the cleaners are also a valuable part of this symbiotic relationship.
>>

>When's the last time someone cleaned their own PDF?

I clean my own. I posted 4 new things just yesterday. I post something new (that I've purchased) almost every thread.

That said, I agree with your broader point. It's the Pareto ratio all over again: 80% of the work done by 20% of the people. Except, the number is probably even more skewed. But that's how every online "sharing" thing ever has worked.

Over in comics there was a big thing a few months back where it turned out that everyone was relying on basically a single guy to buy & release most of the 0-days. One week he was sick or on vacation or something and it took a while for people to realise someone else needed to step up.

Most of the time you just need to remove a watermark from the PDF. There are lots of tutorials out there on it.

Then I check afterwards; I've noticed a few PDFs trying to be tricky where the watermark will be split into two, making it harder for automated tools to find it. In other words, if the watermark looks like "Bob Smith Order #123456" it might actually be two watermarks one is "Bob S" and the other is "mith Order #123456" so a search for "Bob Smith" in the PDF won't turn up anything and you'll think you're clear.

Feng Shui (1st ed) [Digital Edition]
/8P4

You've seen Feng Shui 1st edition before but this is the newest, latest, ultimate-ist trove.

A few weeks ago, at Da Archivist's suggestion, I "adopted" Feng Shui 1st edition. Like many hoarders I had collected many of its books but never really looked at most of them.

After "adopting" it, I actually looked at them...and found them sorely lacking. Virtually all of them were crap. That's right...all of the Feng Shui 1st edition in your personal collection is garbage. It seems clear that most of them were "donated" by a single person many years ago. Most were low quality and lots of content was missing.

Here's >$100 of totally brand new Feng Shui 1st edition...and why it is better than what you'll find elsewhere.

- Core Rulebook. All the other copies of the core rulebook are a 72MB scan. This is a 14MB actual digital edition PDF that doesn't look like dog poo.
- The file normally called "Bullets at the Orphanage" is actually a bad scan of "Four Bastards" and has been replaced by an actual digital edition.
- The version of Iron & Silk you'll find elsewhere is a scan...not bad quality but with some definite artifacts. Here's a new real digital edition.
- Same for Seal of the Wheel (26MB scan vs. 6MB digital edition)
- Same for Seed of the New Flesh (44MB scan vs. 6MB digital edition)

In addition to replacing the existing content with better quality there's also never before seen versions of:

- Blowing Up Hong Kong
- Elevator to the Netherworld
- Friends of the Dragon
- In Your Face Again
- On Location
- Thorns of the Lotus (Atlas Games edition)

There's still a crappy version of Burning Shaolin that I didn't feel like upgrading for you. If someone wants to donate it, I'll add it to the trove

This now includes all Atlas Games content in actual non-scanned digital editions.

No worries, this one worked fine, so I've added them.

I have to say, Dragon Lance seems a strange choice for a Dungeon Squad theme. I think only 40 year old dudes care about Dragon Lance these days....and Dungeon Squad is definitely not targeted at them hahaha :)

>Out of idle curiosity, I was wondering; about how long does a cleaning process take for an average pdf?

It takes me maybe 30-60 seconds to have Acrobat remove stuff.

Then I skim through each page to check for things it might have missed/got wrong. I'm pretty lazy so I do that quickly -- maybe another minute or two depending on how big it is.

So a single file doesn't take much time. But consider when someone drops 5-6 files. We're talking about ~60 minutes. Not a massive amount of time but...how many people are really willing to spend an hour just dealing with watermarks and checking and crap for no thanks or reward when they could be watching a movie or playing a game or whatever.

Here's something a bit different, it's a "matrix wargame" about the current North Korean crisis. You don't use any dice or tables or whatever; the game is determined by debate and discussion between players.
