It's both amazing and poorly made at the same time. On one hand it's a kitchen sink approach to the world with Hastur sleeping next to an immortal demi-god lich and Conan the Techno Barbarian vs. Robots living not too far from not!Mordor minus the evil eye looking on you. On the other the other hand there's dozens of interesting interactions and surprisingly in depth interactions with some of the more written about nations and usually the nations who stick to a theme nail it. The afore mentioned techno barbarian land isn't exactly what you expect, the not!Russia of Irrisen breaks a few molds and in general you can find some neat tidbits and characters from almost every country and eventually you might just find one you prefer over others.

Two the other big ones you should continue afterwards would probably be Cheliax due to it's prominence in the setting and Taldor since it also is a fallen kingdom and, while not the most interesting, it too is prominent in the immediate history of the setting.

Today I bring you writings of a different sort. I took one of my old (and overpowered) homebrew races and set about to balance it for use in the wild. The idea was a plant-themed race, with racial support and power on par with things like Aasimar, Kitsune or Drow.

Without further ado, here's the Flower Nymph! 2 versions, the latter one is a few proposed balance changes on top of my initial tuning. Tell me what you think!

Changelog details (aside from polishing) so you don't have to check yourself:
Removed charisma boost from Affinity, slightly boosted Entrancing Gaze and Enclave Protector but made them ART of Adaptive Growth, and boosted Nature Warden so it's a more viable option compared to Friend of the Wild. Added Lowlight vision (which should've been there from the start).
The final version will likely also change FotW's wording to "Druid or Wizard level" instead of just "Druid level" since the trait affects both familiars and animal companions.

Honestly I don't remember 100% because I wrote this like 2 years ago - I haven't touched the fluff at all. The idea (iirc) was that there was supposed to only ever be one or a few Flower Nymphs for a given flower species, and that they don't really reproduce except for toward the end of their lifespan. I never got any proper stuff for that though, so it never made it into the doc.

They're supposed to be the little sisters of normal Nymphs and Dryads, sort of. You're right in that the emphasis is pretty damn heavy-handed, though - I'll take a look at that (and fluff text overall) for the next version.

Seems like your pretty standard dex/cha/alwaysfemalesexyrace. Chances are no one is going to play up the flower aspect (the spells aren't super good, the fluff only viable if they stay in one area for the whole adventure) and just focus on using the gaze and then possibly grabbing an animal companion/familiar for the advanced levels on it. I don't really see abjuration spells being used at all, so the fluffy and neat ward feat path will probably be tossed into the trash.

So, while the mechanical aspect of the fluff is pretty good, I just don't see anyone using them, and just trying to be a knock-off dryad/nymph without the whole 'bonded to nature/a tree' aspect. And yeah, you do need to address the obvious lean into some people's fetishes. Give them something beyond 'a dryad, but she looks like an underaged girl and isn't bonded to a tree'.

That was the reason I expanded the feat path to include Fusion and Synchronization. Yes, you need quite a bit of setup for it, but the ability to have what is essentially an at-will Black Tentacles (more or less) that you can use as part of your full attack seemed like it was pretty strong to me - strong enough to invest into and build around.

The easy inroad to use Gaze was one of the reasons I changed that into an ART of their "main" trait, Adaptive Growth. It's an iconic ability, but I don't feel like it should be the only ability available to them.

The original idea was more of a "flower dryad who spreads her plant seeds around the world" than any kind of nymph, but then it sort of combined into a nymph-dryad hybrid thing. Do you think I could stand to play up the "traveling" aspect more? Perhaps this could manifest in some ability to attune herself to other terrains?

The Dex/Cha aspect is pretty original, I agree. Would it be more original with something like Con/Cha? I also thought of having Enclave Protector change the +cha to +wis, but I wasn't sure if that was a bit too much on the race support side.

I'll see what I can do on the fluff side to reduce the fetishy stuff. It was not so much my intention as it was the natural effect of making a race based off nymphs/dryads.

This armor is specially enchanted to direct damage away from the wearer and into itself, becoming destroyed in their place. The wearer gains a +1 deflection bonus to AC, and this enchantment grants the armor a special health pool equal to 1/2 the wearer's total HP. I was thinking a modifier or set of abilities that can be applied to any given weapon type, with some investment. Sort of like a special material, but it's all about the construction rather than what it's made from. Ranged weapons that generate their own ammunition, for instance, out of whatever you pack into the clip. Just a thought.
