Sure?

Can I get a ticket to a non-horrible planet after?

Nah, you get legendaries and pearls to boost your chances of survival

Oh. I guess that's cool. I guess becoming a badass is nice, but does it truly matter since there is no one to fuck?

Tina, Moxxi, Lilith, Maya, Gauge, Tannis. They're all fuckable.

Sure, if I can get a less annoying character to DM.
Like Claptrap maybe.

Moxxi is the only problematic one. And Tannis maybe, IIRC, she fucked a skrag. Lilith just loves dem BBC. Maya is pure.

For all of Borderlands 2's problems, the DLC weren't one of them. They must've had a different team of writers, because it felt considerably better than the vanilla game

Hell, Assault on Dragon Keep was actually pretty good, all things considered. Turning it into Tina trying to cope with Roland's death was a legitimately surprising turn, and made it about 1000x deeper than anything else the game had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised
>>
I enjoyed the gameplay of the Pre-Sequel.
>>
>>53943801
The way Roland died and his girlfriend was captured was complete bullshit, all these murderous heavily-armed commandos just sitting around watching the villain do stuff
>>
>>53942172
Sounds fun, can I play a Gun Dwarf? I'm not sure if I want to play a Flamewaffen or a Field Medic...
>>
Tales from the Borderlands was actually one of the only good "Tales of" games alongside their Monkey Island series.

Fiona is best girl, I like her hat.
>>
>>53944415
or how apperantly he rolls with no shield and 10 HP

>>53943915
i bailed after Skipper got mind raped into servitude and no-one reacted to it, not even the VH interrogating Athena. that's some shitty writing . Also i couldn't deal with bad the gameplay right after playing DOOM.
>>
>>53942344
BL is still the most insane compelling setting for a game, IMO.
>>53943915
Level design was the worst. That crashed spaceship level felt like it had zero checkpoints.

Tina was fine in small doses but her 'humor' became obnoxious very quickly.

And did eveyone on the writing team forget that Maya had healing as one of her three skill trees? Where is my fucking alternate ending where Jack's bullets bounce off Roland's shields and then he tps out under a bullet storm and then Maya just picks up Angel with her healing arms hang on I'm getting sidetracked mmmm and everyone leaves.
And then Jack posts a bounty because the Vault Hunters stole his daughter and the plot continues.
Double Alternate Plot: Jack fires from within Roland's shield badly wounding him and then as above but with Maya healing Roland and Angel. And then there's a cutscene wherein everyone says 'Oh no, Jack shot Roland from with his sheild, he'll be down for a while recuperating.'
Triple Alternate Plot: Jack shoots Roland as in Double Alternate but then Roland jabs himself with an instahealth and kicks Jack in the dick.

>>
>>53945633
>Jack kills roland
Jack owns the New-U relays. Doesn't explain the second gripe, though.

But I do remember a theory that the New-U stations don't really exist.
Buut Claptrap makes mention of them.
Buuut Claptrap also breaks the 4th wall in 2 talking about twinking items between characters.
>>53942172
Yes I would.
Tina, for all her faults, is a solid Bunker Master who is willing to actually learn from her mistakes and improve her GMing.
>>
>>53945703
>Jack owns the New-U relays

And yet doesn't stop the main characters from respawning, when they're currently on an active vendetta against them. Even up till the very end, like the final boss fight, he doesn't.
>>
>>53945703
New-U AND Claptrap don't exist.

And I'd play with Tina for the same reasons.

>>53945789
Explicitly because he wanted to do the deed himself. A weakish justification but there it is.
>>
Not with her. God, I hated her voice. Her backstory is sad and all, but I couldn't stand actually dealing with her.

The idea of making an actual Borderlands TTRPG won't get out of my head, but it'd need serious work.

The way I rationalized it, and a line from Tales of the Borderlands sort of hints at it too, Handsome Jack never set up an account with the respawn product because "I'm Handsome Jack. I don't do dying."

It's not unreasonable to believe he's so arrogant he never thought death or failure was a remote possibility.

Though I don't know if Pandora would count as a death world exactly by Imperial records, a shit hole world inhabited by human and mutant refuse certainly where no one would want to live normally, but its more like a pre-hive world needing to be settled.
>>
>>53949680
Well we know that Pandora has several biomes other than desert now thanks to BL2, but all of them are filled with dangerous fauna and foliage that can and will kill you on sight. Most of the people living there are former prisoners/colonists that were supposed to be used for cheap labor in a mining operation that fell through.

Certainly checks out like a death world.

The sad part is, this would've taken ten seconds to fix

When the player meets Claptrap at the start of the game, have him mention that the Crimson Raiders succeeded in destroying Jack's New-U system, but he held onto a couple of spare registry keys to let the BL2 cast use them to fight Jack.
Or even say that Jack removed Roland's data from the system, and actually give them a quest to sneak into a Hyperion base and delete Jack off of it without him realizing it. Jack's megalomania would be explained a bit more in that he thinks he's literally immortal, then you could watch the realization that he could actually die during the final boss

Burch is one of the laziest goddamn writers in the world that he'd rather destroy any sense of internal logic and consistency rather than put in ten seconds of effort to make things fit righte

What system should I go about using if I wanted to run a Borderlands game?
It should be something that can handle a wide variety of weapons with randomly generated stats, the way they are generated should probably just be homebrewed because I don't think there is any system out there that has something like it built in.

I have no idea why melee and autoaim like Anarchy or Nisha is so much fun in the Borderlands series. Normally running up to something and mashing one button till it dies is really boring, but Krieg and Zer0 make it fun and Blood-Soaked Shields+ Anarchy + Close Enough is hilarious for way longer than it should be (until you fight the AoDK Dragons which Anarchy will basically never hit because there's nothing to ricochet off and there's no mobs to slaughter for health). Anarchy Gaige remains my favourite character, closely followed by Sniper Zer0 because running the Dam Ramparts with a sniper rifle is awesome. It's like an all-you-can-crit buffet against Loaders.
>>
>>53956643
YES

Krieg's "Hahahahaha you actually thought I was going to do anything but scream and butcher you with an axe" build is my favorite thing in any modern gen console.
>>
>>53960677
The amazing thing is watching the AI trying to work out what the fuck is going on, since they're still all taking cover and attempting suppressing fire and a whole bunch of things Krieg gives absolutely no fucks about until he procs Salt six times in a row and then somebody grenades him through the entire RTB threshold before you can hit the button. Many times have I killed the last enemy in a fight with my LTF explosion because melee decided that I needed to die too.

Krieg was the character who made me realise that Khorne Bezerkers would actually be a legitimate threat to an actual army, although Krieg is probablymore overpowered than them.
>>
>>53960530
Might have a lot to do with the weighty feel the melee hits (and really plenty of the guns in general) have in combat and the characters reaction to when you perform a particular action of set of actions. Yeah, you just spammed w+M1 but you managed to clean out that entire bandit den in less than 15 seconds AND some dude exploded cause you hit in the face hard enough with a giant buzz saw/meat cleaver hybrid that got Krieg to spit out some kind of silly one-liner.

You gonna sit there and say that doesn't feel awesome when you do that?

Anon, that's Earth. Most of the dangerous stuff has simply gone extinct or learned to avoid us. Or, in the case of some breeds of wolves, learned our one weakness: the puppy-eyed stare.
>>
>>53961082
Yeah, fair point. The gunplay is really satisfying, especially when you're running around firing at anything vaguely near an enemy while Vortex Grenades are going off everywhere and Gaige is yelling at you for breaking the game and developing a hell of a god complex. If farming was just SLIGHTLY easier and bosses could be spawned scaled to your level after the first fight, there was way more story DLC and you didn't have to slog through the first fifteen levels before the Big Dam Rescue every time it would be the perfect game.

Also, plasma casters. Plasma casters are amazing.

There's also Starfinder coming out, if you can stand d20. Weapons now come with their own levels and do all sortsof crazy shit, from acid rifles to shock grenades to swords that cause knockback and set people on fire. The soldier class is super badass, plus an operative sneaky sniper, mechanic with pet robot, technomancer reality hacker and for a siren you can slap the phrenic archetype on any class for psychic/magic powers.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Starfinder. Lots of stuff they said sounds good, but... it's Paizo. They were always good at making big promises and then delivering shit.

She's the top of the line military AI of a crashed starship that was reprogrammed to be the tech chief turned bandit leader's waifu. She actually helps Jack's vault hunters because they seem the better choice than the raiders she's stuck with. Later on Jack pretty much lobotomizes her by stripping away everything but her core program to make the AI that is copied into hyperion's robots and everyone is like "yeah well sorry we need to make robots to fight the badguy so even though you've been nothing but helpful and friendly to us we're going to delete your personality and stuff whats left of you into killbots without any sense of remorse cause we're edgy and shit!"
>>
>>53950151
I wouldn't say she's a mary sue, so much as she's a the best of the bad. Pretty much every character in borderlands is a murderous bastard, and 1.5 turned that up to 11 and a half cause "you the badguys now LULZ" so the one character who was like "maybe we don't have to burn /all/ the babies" comes off kinda sueish.
If you mean the fact she's a special forces solder we'll all the hunters are some kind of badass.

It's a shame, they could have EASILY made a great plot point using the New-U Stations.

Hyperion own the stations, so have a huge amount of control over them.

As a result it didn't take long for Roland, Brick, Mord' and Lillith to have their names and data deleted from the network and blocked from respawns. This being the big reason why those guys take a more back-seat approach and have the newest group of Badasses take the lead, because they've not been scrubbed by the hyperion.

And by the time Jack does get around to blacklisting them and wiping them out for good, it looks like somone with connections inside hyperion, access to all of hyperions technology and data and a way to remotely manipulate it has managed to sneakily compress or conceal their identities in the system so they can't be "Removed." and prevented from respawning. And to add the final nail to the coffin, also managed to remove Jack from the system and block him from using it.

Unrelated, but I really hope Nisha and Wilhelm show up to some extent once more, I guess Jack kind of shrugging them off as pawns is part of his character, but those two were the most interesting yet we got left with Athena.
>>
>>53965347
Both Nisha and Wilhelm are canonically dead, which is a shame cause both are more fun to play than claptrap or Athena. Not counting the 2 dlc characters. If by some means they retcon their death as just needing a bullet to the head to set them straight, I wouldn't mind playing them again.
>>
>>53965538
if they did a remake where you can play any of the 16 characters across the entirety of the 3 games it would be perfect. I'm saddened that they actually figured out the right tweaks in gameplay and number balancing right before shelving the IP indefinitely.

>earth is a death world meme
Anon, just stop. We have very little to compare earth to in terms of threats due to a lack of discovered extraterrestrial life, so calling earth a death world only really applies to cringe inducing hfy treads. The absolute worst places earth has to offer in terms of flora and fauna would be Africa and Australia, both of which would be considered tropical getaways to your average pandoran.
>inb4 dangerous weather
We've discovered planets made of shit like silicate and other jagged minerals where the storms generate winds at speeds that can whip this stuff up with great enough speed to absolutely shred anything on the surface. Sure you could say similar shit could happen on a mountain, but we're not all living on a planet spanning mountain that does this shit every few hours or so.
>>
>>53965910
This does bring an interesting idea though, of a stealth-Death World. A Death World where the people have adapted so well to it that for all intents and purposes it seems to be a regular lower-tech civilized world. Right up until you realize the farmers are routinely arming the giant deathwolf traps, or making sure that the exploding hypercorn doesn't fully gestate past it's edible stage.

What kind of Borderlands campaign would you prefer?

One modeled after the mainline games where the players are all Vault Hunter mercenaries that take on various jobs along the way of finding a legendary treasure.
Or one more inspired by Tales from the Borderlands where the players are all (relative to crazy psychopath Vault Hunters) regular people and the plot can be anything fitting into the insane Borderlands universe like bandit wars on conflict ridden planets or Mega Corporation shadowrunnig.

I did like the look of the Led Zep Lilly build, or I would have if they hadn't used it to phaseloot all the chests, leaving me to follow on and execute all the bad guys with a shield-bypass Masher crit. Revolver/Bloodwing was pretty fun, you just pretended you were in a western cause the bird killed everybody other than the guy you want to duel in about half a second.
>>
>>53969752
>>53972419
Once you get Trespass up to full ranks Eridians were a joke. And Bloodwing was great for making everything explode then hand you full health. If anything survived you shoot them in the crit spots.

Forget what I swapped Trespass for when dealing with zombies though. And against Knoxx you just bring an SMG and stay in his face no matter what your build is.
>>
>>53971964
And it should stay on the moon, with all the other insufferable gay people and Australians.

I'm genuinely surprised people like Janey Springs as a character when most of her character is hitting on all the female PCs and characters for quests and poor attempts at being "quirky".

If Borderlands 2 had the Grinder from Pre-Sequel, it could have been the first good Borderlands game.
It's a fucking shame, because there's some solid ideas in this series, but none of them come together in a satisfying way. Borderlands 1 is dated as all hell, 2 is bad because of the abysmal drop rates and no way to skip cutscenes, and Pre-Sequel is bad because holy shit those characters are BORING
>>
>>53972937
2 was also bad because they changed the math for "epic numbers" but the scaling gets fucked at later levels.
>>
>>53969222
>>53968984

Maya's power lifts people up and holds them there for a few seconds - so in terms of gun synergy you really want DPS over ANYTHING, to the point that Jacobs pistols work really well with her, as do jacob assault rifles, jacob sniper rifles tend to fire too slowly to quite work with her.

But, fortunately the tanky/heal tree gives you bonus firing rate while her skill is in use.

In terms of elemental effects, guns that directly provide elemental damage aren't that useful for her (maliwan in particular tends to have too small clips and too slow a fire rate to be good for Maya) - she has an elemantal tree that allows her to PROVIDE all the elemental damage you need and renders gun based elemental damage largely redundant (and the melee override of her heal/tank tree allows her to produce a Slag hadouken that shoots slag lightning at any enemies it passes near before it explodes in a slag explosion).

I will forever be baffled why the devs for 2 for some reason felt that Maliwan SMGs were Maya's weapon of choice when Krieg or Salvador, who get bonuses from standing in the middle of battle hitting people a lot with bullets and firing elemental weapons, work so much better with that type of gun than Maya's whole "I have 2 seconds to kill as many things in the room that I can before running away behind cover until my cooldowns finish and I do it all again" playstyle.

(said playstyle is super fun though, very fast and hectic)
>>
>>53973351

And early levels! And honestly the game doesn't really get fun until you're on the second playthrough because you have access to all of at least one skills tree (so classes feel distinct) and the numbers all seem to be about right for a good shooter game, plus enemies have a good mix of weaknesses and resistances to keep combat interesting.
>>
>>53973472
If the rest of the game just kept feeling like the second playthrough it would have been pretty satisfying. Wouldn't mind certain parts being more solo friendly either.

Also, it annoys me that Krieg with a Rapier does the same damage before skills as anyone else with a Rapier because of how they worked his "totally uses a different melee formula"
>>
>>53952997
In 1 I played Mordecai with an unhealthy fixation on melee. That carried over to 2 when I played a mostly melee Zer0. The only guns allowed are pistols.

>The only guns allowed are mashers.

>>
>>53956415
I can forgive meme-tastic writing, I can look past plot holes you could fry a Star Destroyer through.

What I can't deal with is bullet spongy enemies that exhaust all your ammo & then force you to explore dull levels to find more.

The first BL had good combat & it was fun to look around levels. BL2 was a chore to play. I'm not touching BL3 until the core gameplay is fixed.
>>
>>53975073
The Pre-Sequel already learned from 2 and went back to the old calculations for damage and HP, it just sucked because of edgy villainy and the whole O2 gimmick.

Judging by the Tales game, hopefully 3 will include Fiona as a vault hunter and an action skill for environmental kills. Not sure who else though. Wouldn't mind Tina being playable, think of all the grenades!
>>
>>53975138

well, the environment was repetitive in 1.5 (You're on a moon, it looks moony and rocky. Sometimes you are on a space station that looks like a corporate lobby in a business place, those are your two environments, have fun), the weird thing is that for some fucking reason level design peaked with the captain scarlett DLC.

Take the Pre-Sequel's gameplay, the level design from first or DLC, some of the writing and character design from the second, and boom, a game that'd be nickel & dimed in some way that'd make it annoying in a new way.

Wasn't the Hyperion Station like, going haywire, or being hacked or something in that game?

Been a while since I played it.

I figure, at the time of Vasquez's death, the New U database maintained on the station was probably on the fritz.

Or, consider how Vasquez killed the hyperion exec to becoming Rhys's boss didn't respawn, I figure that internal politics on Hyperion station mean that everyone is constantly deleting their rival from the New U database every day, and everyone is just as commonly signing up again, and double checking throughout the day.

I mean, Wake up, log into New U, go to work, have boring meeting, delete ass-face from New U, go to lunch, have FingerBang shootup in cafeteria, suck up to boss, double check that I'm still in the New U, finish TPS reports, delete ass-face again, suck up to second boss, double check New U, go to company happy hour, get shit-faced, FingerBang shootout with bar buddies, go home. Wake up in the middle of the night to delete Ass-face. Have pleasant dreams.

I mean, sooner or later they're going to die somehow, may as well hedge your bets, neh?
>>

That's only a problem with AAA-companies, to be fair.

The problem is that before games were made for enthusiasts, and thus, for fun.
Nowadays they are made for the lowest common denominator, and thus, for profit.

Most of the individual developers (and I don't mean "indie" guys who just pretend to be such for cred - I mean the single developers with a passion, like Toady) are actually perfectly alright guys.

>>53952997
My Favorite was Salvador with health and bullet regeneration. I'd usually combine Slag with some kind of Shotgun. But I inexplicably got two Dangerous Heralds in the beginning of the game without realizing how great of a weapon it was and used them from level 8 to 37. I'm also a big fan of dual wielding Anarchist pistols and that Elephant gun.

Got the pre-sequel with a few friends in the humblebundle recently, that game is such utter shit. The new mechanics are boring, the new classes are boring to outright detrimental to have, and the camera fucked up a few times where it would lock onto the cutscene angle, even after the boss fight started. Awful experience
