Do you think Starfinder could sub in for cyberpunk games?

Also have we got any ship rules yet?
>>
So if an animal companion's bite has grab, that means they get a free grapple check, right? So what happens if you give it Hamatula Strike as a feat (of course you'd need Dirty Fighting and Improved Grapple first)?

Could the bite trigger a grapple check, and then if the succeeds could Hamatula Strike be used to turn it into a pin?

Sorry, missed the bit about human swashbuckler.
So you get 5 feats from your 9 levels. Also 1 bonus feat at level 1 for being human. Finally you get a bonus combat feat for every 4 swashbuckler levels you have (that's 2 in your case).

I need some help. /pgg/

>Decide to run a homebrew setting, never done it before, warn the players that it's my first real time
>They don't give me much to work with in terms of character background, except for one guy who sketches out his home country on a map, details the nobility, and draws a few maps
>Players have no motivation to do anything, and sit in town forever, then argue amongst themselves
>Discover that, four sessions in, actually building a setting is a way larger investment in time then I have/can do

I'm thinking of just dumping the setting and using Golarion instead of struggling to come up with stuff- I'm apparently not as creative as I thought. I've hesitated so far because of the one player who put in a bunch of work, but not having a real framework aside from plagarizing is a pain.
We haven't gotten far in yet, and the players really haven't left the one town. I could easily insert it into the setting, and transplant the country/etc into wherever. Thoughts?

>>
>>53938085
If you don't like Golarion, porting them to a 3.5 setting is pretty easy as well, with a few exceptions of course, though I doubt any of you wants to play planescape.
Renaming the most similar country to that player's backstory is pretty simple and honestly, until you give the players a world map, they could be just about anywhere and you can move areas around without them noticing.

Dreamscarred Press:
>Psionics, an alternate magic system that is more like a mana bar from a vidya that is generally well-liked. Has some odd fluff and a few corner-case balance issues but you can always tinker with it
>Path of War: (Relatively) fixes the 5ft-step and full-attack routine with base paizo martials by adding in more fun stuff you can do and buffing up fightman classes

Legendary Games
>Legendary (Class) series: Books that contain new, relatively balanced options for classes like Rogue, Swashbuckler, and Kineticist. Notable for often including "Legendary (Class)" fixes that act sort of like patches and tweaks to basic paizo classes

Purple Duck Games
>Kineticists of Poryphyra: A set of books of Kineticist content by N. Jolly, which makes Kineticist even more fun to play

Drop Dead Studios
>Spheres of Power: an alternative "build your own magic" system that encourages specialization and investment, uses points and talents to build your own spells.

I'm certain there are others /pfg/ likes

...Not that anyone remembers this, of course.
>>
>>53938093
Path of War and Psionics from Dreamscarred Press: The former brings the power level and utility of martials up to that of mid level casters while the later is (for the most part) not quite as broken of a magic system as vancian.

Spheres of Power by Drop Dead Studios: Brings down magical power significantly by creating thematic groupings of spells.

The Avowed by Forrestfire Studios: A pretty versatile class with neat ALL DAY features reminiscent of the 3.5 warlock.

N. Jolly's work, primarily the Legendary Kineticist/Rogue/Vigilantes from Legendary Games: Adding features necessary to bring these subpar classes to the table.

Ertw's beguiler: A favored homebrew here, brings the 3.5 beguiler forward into the pathfinder world. Lots of options and lots of fun to play. Lives on the edge of tiers 2 and 3.

Major magic is kind of shit. 2/day 1st level spells aren't going to take you very far. The combat feats are way more valuable.

If you want to get in a game, post an application; then ask one of the review anons to help you out.
>>
>>53938864

You can only try. Some people are okay. The biggest issue i've seen isn't the roleplaying, usually in-character stuff has been pretty good for me, but its out of character the mental breakdowns some people have and then blow up their own game or spill their spaghetti everywhere.
>>
>>53938864

Most games that run from here either never get off the ground (the bamboozles) or are pretty fun. Competition's pretty stiff for most of them, though. Ask for reviews. Don't get offended by criticims, instead listen, learn, improve, and try again.

Considering you brought up IP counts first, either you believe it does and you're trying to cover up being an idiot, or you don't actually and you were just bulshitting. Either way is pretty damning, don't you think?

Also, fuck off, Old /tg/ may not have been amazing, and it may have had a strong share of cancer, but it was much more fun and twice as creative as what we have now. Nowadays its the same amount of cancer, but less fun and chill. Contrary to what you fags though, banning /wst/ has not improved things at all. Hell, banning /wst/ is the reason why all the degenerates migrated to /pfg/ in the first place since the /d/ version is a fucking trashfire that barely functions

I've had bad luck with the gamefinder thread. Games from here are much more tolerable.
>>
So I'm curious, is there anything interesting to do with a free hand fighting build? I know it's supposed to be subpar but that's not a big deal. So far I've seen that there's a mediocre archetype for fighter and a couple of PoW disciplines that would work with it.
>>
>>53938920

Anon, the Starfinder thread seems to be three people talking to each other, with the conversation being "Does Starfinder do THIS awesome thing?!" followed by two replies stating "Yes, it does THAT awesome thing!!".

And more than likely the three people are one person talking to themselves. Because the only information we have on Starfinder is minimal and based almost entirely on blogposts made by Paizo to hype up the system and leaked information of character sheets and monster statblocks for, like, 10 monsters.
>>
>>53938973
It's a small group of people who are butthurt about losing /pfg/ who are propping up the starfinder thread, a small group of people who are rabidly foaming at the mouth about how important /pgg/ is who are propping up this thread, and a whole lot of people who don't give a shit caught in between on both threads.

I'd vote against adding subsystems anon, particularly something that would require a DM tracking NPCs. Maybe have it act like story feats, or a chain of story feats where you gain bonuses based on what kind of saga you were completing (that being what actions you took/challenges you overcame)? Or look at how WotR did it with those campaign traits.
>>
>>53939358
>>53939432
Hey, you guys know that the Linnorm Kings Campaign Book already includes a Reputation system?
>>
>>53939385
Animus to cast spells doesn't sound like a bad idea, actually! Originally it was just a pool of uses equal to the user's Charisma modifier, with a DC equal to 10+1/2 Bloodrager Level + CHA mod. Really, Animus would be used more as a representation of "boiling blood", kind of like an adrenaline mechanic, and the Bloodrager can select some animus augments and animus-based powers in place of bonus feats.
>>
>>53939358
>>53939432
Oh, or, idea, each chapter has a number of "Saga" points, where one character can claim it as part of their Saga and get a boon specific to that event. Like "Fjolnar the Mighty slew the gatekeeper of the fort" means Fjolnar decided to take credit for killing the gatekeeper and gains a +2 Intimidate check or something, but can't claim any more events during that section of the adventure or until everyone else has done so. Maybe throw in "displays of prowess beyond mortal measure" (impressive skill checks or other player-made events) as a small boon or part of the saga that happens whenever it happens.

Be gentle, this is the first time I've homebrewed up traits, but..

>Saga of the Shield Maiden: Allies adjacent to you gain a +2 shield bonus to AC. This stacks with any existing shield bonuses they might have.

>Saga of the Berserker: Once per battle, when you fail an Intimidate action to demoralize an enemy you may re-roll that check as a free action. You must take the second result, even if it is worse.

>Saga of the Bloodied Hand: When you are below half HP, you add a +2 morale bonus to your damage.

>Saga of the Witch Hunter: Once per day when you fail a saving throw against an effect created by a fey or Witch that would possess or incapacitate you mentally, you may immediately reroll that saving throw as a free action. You must take the second result, even if it is worse.

>>53940602
Why? First party classes are ass.

I can't think of a single one I would want to play both mechanically or conceptually.
>>
>>53940602
>roll20.net

There you go anon, tons of games running your boring chargen rules.
>>
>one of the Starfinder gods is the fusion of the AI from Iron Gods AP and the brain the robots were building in Distant Worlds

neat
>>
>>53940602
Why would you want plain out-of-the-box? That's the road that leads to every fighter's list of feats looking the same until 5th level, the road of CHARGEPOUNCERAGELANCE Barbarians, and the road of not being able to scale down your spells to meet lesser foes.
>>
>>53940643
>Not wanting to play Paladin, Bard, Alchemist, Inquisitor, Investigator, Skald, Hunter, Vigilante, Slayer, or Occultist.

Friendo, the fuck is wrong with you?
>>
>>53940753
Okay, maybe Alcehmist.

The rest don't interest me in the slightest.
>>
>>53940768
Between those classes you can play basically anything. What do you want that can't be replicated there?
>>
What's the most fun non-spellcasting class?

I'm hoping the Shifter is one.
>>
How much would a Ring of Mirror Image be?
>>
>>53940787
Any psionic manifester, a not tedious and hard to understand spellcaster, and a fun to play martial.
>>
>>53940792
Technically, Kineticist. I'd also rate Slayer and Brawler up there. Fighter technically counts too. And Barbarian is good for damage.
>>
>>53940810
Uses per day, constant, or command word?
>>
>>53940768
>>53940812
Actually add Slayer to that. I played one once and it was tolerable.
>>
>>53940753
Sure all those classes are great, but I'd also like to have access to shit like

>Legendary Rogues and Vigilantes
>Feat Tax rules to unfuck stuff like Combat Maneuvers and the Power Attack Tax on every single Str martial in existence
>Avowed

Because these things are also fun. And because having a group that's such faggots that they can't be trusted to bring in 3pp for the group to vet as a whole means your group is shit.
>>
>>53940792
Shifters are 4casters
>>
>>53940861
Well that's disappointing.
>>
>>53940812
>Not tedious and hard to understand spell caster

So... literally all the classes I mentioned (minus occultist)? If you have a hate-on for Vancian then this is very much the wrong system for you.

>Fun to play martial.

Every class I mentioned.

>>53940857
>Sure all those classes are great, but I'd also like to have access to shit like

Huh? I was just trying to figure out what someone could want that can't be replicated by a 1pp class. Of course house rules make things better, that's true with every RPG.

Also, Avowed is a shit.
>>
>>53940861

Ya got any proof for that?
>>
>>53940830
Rings are inherently items that you can use All Dayâ„¢, right? So uses per day are basically whenever activated, and to keep it in line with the Blinking Ring let's say it's a command word to refresh your number of images.
>>
>>53940899
They were described as 'Shifters are to Druids as Paladins are to Clerics'
>>
>>53940897
>Avowed is a shit

opinion discarded
>>
>>53940897
>>53940897
>then this is very much the wrong system for you.
I mean between Psionics and Spheres, I have plenty of options to play and not even fucking touch Vancian casting. And I've yet to see a magic system in another game I liked as much as 3.5 style psionics.

Yeah, no.
>>
>>53940943
It is though.
>>
>>53940943
>shit taste detected
>>
>>53940897
Vancian's retarded, and a sacred cow that should have been slaughtered the moment Psionics and The Binder were released.
>>
>>53940897
>He thinks the occultist is hard to understand
>He thinks that "replicating" is what people want and that people somehow don't want different mechanics that aren't hamstringed by dumb Paizo decisions

For a 2nd level spell at CL 3:
It would cost 24,000 gp for continuous use ring of mirror image.

That is arguably an inaccurate description. It goes more like this

Rangers = Paladins = Bloodragers = Fighter (CoAA) = Medium = Antipaladin
Hunters = Warpriests = Skald = Magus = Occultist = Inquisitor = Bard = Summoner = Spiritualist = Vigilante (Casting archetype)
Druids = Clerics = Sorceror = Wizard = Psychic = Oracle = Witch = Arcanist

Because I generally dislike initiators and they're the most commonly used 3pp material.
I dislike how they have all-day resources and make anything else that wants to fight, like a magus or stalker, basically irrelevant.

A Friendless&Covetous Intrigue Oracle fits so well it hurts.

I am extremely torn.

>player asked to ignore what seems to be a primary chargen rule and was allowed
>"Contact: You know where already, silly!"

These are the simple facts. Does it sound like bullshit?
>>
>>53941475
10 levels!
>>
>>53941501
Availability is kind of pointless to put on, considering the GM has flat-out stated "this is the only time I can play". You shouldn't apply if your availability doesn't line-up with that particular time, so putting it on your application is useless, isn't it?
>>
>>53941450
>>53941464
>>53941501
Asking the GM for special permissions kind of important; otherwise you have to assume that it's ONLY what's listed, which might mean that you miss out on something unique like "sure, you can play an Azlanti if you start as a 9th-level instead of 10th and are always 1 level behind".
>>
>>53941562
>Asking the GM for special permissions kind of important; otherwise you have to assume that it's ONLY what's listed
This isn't just asking to use some material that wasn't listed in Char Gen or something. This is straight up asking to ignore something the DM obviously felt was important enough to bold, underline, and put in all caps.
>>
>>53941541
That's a fair point, though it didn't stop plenty of other applications. I think the other two points are pretty valid, though.

>>53941562
I think if the GM makes a given rule the very first chargen rule, then bolds and underlines it, you can assume it to be fairly iron-clad.
>>
>>53941574
>>53941573
So does that mean they're banned now from /pfg/ games, ooooor?
>>
>>53941584
No, that's not the issue. The issue is that they seem to have been given special permission to ignore what seems to be an important character creation rule. So the situation is one of two things:

1. The GM giving out special privileges to certain people

2. The GM creating a rule but not enforcing it

Neither are good things.
>>
>>53941609
Alternatively:

3. It's actually a jokepost. There's plenty of those in JttW.

4. The player applied without getting special permission and will probably not be accepted into the final party.
>>
>>53941672
I can specifically confirm that neither of these are the case, thanks to Discord.
