They make significantly less appearances than the primaris marines in the new rulebook, too. It seems like GW is really pushing them as just "The New Space Marine" rather than "Big New Tools For Old Chapters To Utilize".

My opinion is that they won't. They'll push this as far as they possibly can WITHOUT crossing the line, and in a decade's time all we'll see is Primaris Marines and be talking about how you can still play with the originals. Either that or GW gets enough backlash to sideline them and they end up taking a back seat to the manlets.

I really hope it's the first option. Just because I hate Heroic scale with a passion, especially how terrible the proportions of the cadians/chaos cultists are. So how good are the Bloat-Drones? Two heavy flamers and a force weapon doesnt seem worth worth ~160 points, but i might be wrong. t7, daemon save and FnP is good for tankiness, but their degrading strength and mediocre weaponry don't exactly sell me on their killing power.

Well, maybe if marine sales drop away GW may begin a phase-out, even if it's just more stuff going direct only while the primaris kits get shelf space in the brick and mortar stores. But I think that would only happen as a reaction to poor sales figures years down the line. What I mean is I don't think they have a plan to phase the current marines out as things are. (And for what it's worth, I can't see sales of current marines falling that low anyway.)

It's basically a 48' range stormbolter for fucking 50 points, mate. Hell, stormbolter is better since it doesn't suffer -1 BS on the move. Even if CML were 20 pts each it would be the worst choice. Plasma cannons are better, but not by much. You want to overcharge them to be effective and even the we're looking at fucking ONE S8 AP -3 D2 hit at average. Not to mention that you will be in Belial's reroll range for two turn tops.

I can't think of any other way. Even then you should really be careful about that shade, you had best thin it down considerably, and not with water either, painting white is veeeery finicky. You have to use Lahmian Medium, or an equivalent paint thinner that you know won't change the consistency of the shade to become more runny.

It's a tough question, and ultimately depends on what you're facing in the meta.

Consider that you get 4 dark lances with a scourge unit, or 4 blasters. Damage wise:

4 blasters will deal 2.22 damage to a land raider.

4 Dark Lances on a scourge unit will deal 2.91 damage the turn they arrive (lower BS), and 3.88 every turn they remain stationary.

3 Dark Lances on a ravager will deal 2.91 damage per turn to the land raider.

The ravager costs 5 more points than the scourge unit, but offers significantly more durability.

The Scourge unit trades some durability for flexibility: if you get second turn, you don't have to worry about your scourges getting shot off the board in your opponent's first turn.

Is AP considered a modifier? If so does that mean that the opponent must roll dice for a save they can't even make (i.e a 7+) and that if they can reroll the save they suffer the same effect as other rerolls do when hit by -1/2/3 modifiers?

E.g I have a save of 4+, I get hit by 3 wounds at -ap 2.

I roll 4, 5 and 6. If I was able to reroll all failed wounds, because these are all passes I cannot reroll them, but after modifiers only one (the 6) is a legit save.

If you really want to buy everything at once, get one less start collecting box, a second command squad, a demolisher leman Russian kit, and an infantry squad. You won't need more them two commissar for now, you want the gatling cannon leman russ, and the command squad has some special weapons you want. Additionally, try to get a few extra bases for the hwavy weapons. You can make three mortars, lascannons/autocannons/bolters, and three missile launchers per box, and one of each of those for the sprue you get in the start collecting box, so try to get eight more for now.

Long time probably. Even with a dread and hover tank added the chad marines wargear loadout is just so inflexible, and they will always be more vulnerable to high damage weapons than standard marines.

Unless GW drops their points to blatantly undercosted levels they'll probably never be a very optimal army, just like IG veterans have always been better special weapon carriers than marines.
Primaris marines all having a decent or good melee weapon instead of the hands Cawl gave them might also help.

I want to see more Primaris Marine stuff. Like a dedicated assault troop. Or a Primaris Marine Librarian. Or devastators. Or even a goddamned transport that's not going to be so overpriced points-wise it's not worth taking. Give me a Primaris Marine Rhino.

foot soldiers with limited special weapon access, elite version of foot soldiers with "up to 4" special weapon access, fast attack with special weapon access, fast attack without special weapon access, etc, etc. Is there any army that breaks this mold in 8th edition?

I myself like options that have a power level of 6-9, giving you a good chance of getting the summon off while they aren't weak.

This includes, Flamers, Screamers, Beasts of Nurgle, Plague Drones, Herald of Slaneesh on Seeker Chariot, Fiends, Seekers and Chaos Furies. From these, only Drones are reliable and need the boost up the field IMO.

If you are up for more of a risk, 20 "man" blobs of daemonettes or plaguebearers are good and really benefit from the boost up the field.

Is Cawl really worth playing in a 1k list? Had a few talks earlier in my LGS with a AdMech player praising him to infinity and beyond. But I can't really see in which enviroment of 1k points he'd shine.

Is Greyfax worth taking for IG over a Primaras?
Her model is really cool and I like the 2 deny rolls.
Also, having access to LD 10 on conscripts seems really good, and stopping 2 smites a turn can shut down some of the new spam. Am I over looking a glaring flaw?

Magnetizing Broadsides is a pain -- should I glue on the heavy rail rifle or the fuck ton of missiles for this edition?

I'm more strongly considering the heavy rail rifle. Mortal wounds are really important this edition (and Tau doesn't really have any mortal wounds outside of the Heavy Support slots).

If GW continues down its current trends, sisters of battle, scions, craftworld eldar, space marines

Sisters are getting squatted because GW just hates them arbitrarily, despite all their new kits selling phenomenally.
Scions never got any support since day 1, don't have sales figures but I've never seen them as an army in person.
Craftworlds are getting their core identity changed, being called aeldari and making way for the ynnari. Ynnari will just replace craftworlds, as they pretty much have in lore.
Space marines are being replaced with chadmarines. I'd be more than very surprised if we got any new manlet marine kits, other than a veteran/fireblade type unit of veterans who won't go through the process of upgrading, serving as a last bastion of super squat marines.

Sisters and scions have already been rolled into other armies, Craftworlds and Space marines are being worn down from within.

Also a lamentation for tau allies. Literally never gotten a new GW unit and FW just forgot they existed.
