In the post-singularity, post-scarcity future hyper-mechanization has eliminated the need for human beings to toil even as genetic engineering and cybernetic augmentation has created true physical perfection. With no worries over meeting physical needs anymore humanity is free to engage in pure philosophy. Borders between both nations and minds fall as Earth unites under one true society dedicated to the highest ideals. This purest form of government is known as the World Wrestling Federation. All are equal in the ring as differences in science, religion, and philosophy are now solved by whomsoever has the sickest moves and draws the largest crowds.

Of course no gimmick is perfect, thus humanity begins to fracture into warring camps of faces and heels.

Because we're all be using Augmented Reality in the future, I'd say personal pixelization.
This then leads to laws against being able to switch yours off. It's to combat perverts. That it means you cannot escape ads or tracking is just an unintended side effect and has nothing to do with corporate lobbying.

Remember: Popularity is a spiral -- certain things will come into fashion, fall out of fashion, and then come back with a slight variation. Pick a historical fashion trend then throw it through two or three rounds of "What gets lost and what gets added?" and you may well see the future of fashion.

Alternatively, avoid anything The Doctor has ever worn or seems like he would wear, I'm pretty sure he's intended to be equally unfashionable in any time period among any species.
>>
Here's a fun idea for a far-future high fashion: Carbon is cheap and plentiful. We can already synthesize artificial diamonds, and with technological advance, the process is only going to become easier. At some point it becomes economical to have certain fabrics feature an exterior so heavily encrusted with tiny diamonds that it looks to be made of sparkle -- the shiniest dress in the universe, and one tech level after it debuts for some rich and crazy celebrity it's a top-end consumer product available for proms, weddings, and the like.

Could really do with some more mens clothes.
>>
Have you considered raiding Eclipse Phase art?
>>
>>53888449
Yeah, we could. The problem being that clothing for men has, in the last century, been subject to FAR less variation and experimentation. I mean, for 'lower' club fashion and what is considered appropiate in what settings there's still some play but there isn't the same sort of experimental garb or insane variation you see in dresses. The two-piece suit, three-piece suit, and tuxedo have changed very little since their inception (With some minor variants rising and falling and vests falling out of favor but not strictly out of canon) while in the same time women have gone through more significant evolution across a greater breadth of style to begin with. As such, from the point in history where we currently stands, it seems highly likely that the basic form of the suit will remain a mainstay of western formal culture for the forseeable future.

Some possible evolutions do occur though. One might be a spread of Kilts, or at least a decline in the universality of pants as we know them. the Kilt is legitimately better for masculine health than individually-legged pants and already exists as a corner case in the canon of western mens' fashion, so it could conceivably catch on to a broader audience.

The other thing to consider would be a rise in prominence of styles from China and Southeast Asia. As the region enters the world stage, Mandarin collared shirts and coats could easily become, if not the norm, then at least an acceptable alternative to the current mens button-down shirt and/or open jacket. Similarly (and somewhat overlapping with positive points regarding kilts) you could see Sarongs (and their differently-named variations) becoming appropriate mens' clothes.

Then of course there's the ever-changing mores on hats, and the million and two styles they can come in.

Now, if you're talking about what people wear to informal events, like going clubbing, that's another thing all together. Just look at the 1980's.

Intel helped with pic related, as well as a dress that was made of fibre optics and lit up. Considering both of them were actually wearable by normal people instead of the ridiculous shit you normally see at fashion shows, I wouldn't be surprised if future fashion actually had some of those elements to it (ie: lights and moving parts).

Implying work/combat gear is designed without any sense of fashion. Look at >>53882855 or >>53882907, and tell me those were designed with only practicality in mind.
Implying people don't wear work/combat gear for purely aesthetic reasons. Do you think every person wearing a Carhartt jacket is a farmer/plumber/laborer?

I don't know, but why wear a shoe if it isn't? Most peglegs might do so to keep things balanced with their good leg, but if that were the case you wouldn't get a bent fuck of a prost if that was your concern - you want it as identical in weight, size, and motion as your good as you can get.

I don't think the way the guy articulated his point is great. The difference between some of the art here and others is the utility. A lot of the art up top is character art, they wear combat gear or otherwise non-aesthetically minded clothing, the thread is looking for fashion, clothes designed to look good and convey personality and taste. It's like if in 300 years time someone said "post 21st-century fashion for my historical rpg" and people responded by posting a soldier in combat gear with an AR-15

My personal theory is that this is, at least in part, due to our culture's very utilitarian view of men. Part of fashion is accentuating the attractiveness of the wearer, and our culture says that men aren't beautiful, so why waste time experimenting with male fashion? Men aren't supposed to be beautiful, they're supposed to be useful, productive, mostly interchangeable workers, so their clothing is essentially a uniform. Or it's meant to indicate financial success, because we're told that men's attractiveness comes not from who they are, but from how financially successful they are.

The problem with bitching about what is and isn't fashion is that it's a sliding scale between form and function. There's form(fashion) in everything and everything has SOME utility(function).

It's virtually impossible to completely remove without something being completely designed by AI or algorithm. And then you get truly ugly monstrosities hyper-specialized for whatever the program was told to min-max. If you DO have something designed by people, fashion almost always slips in. We know the best design for a car. It's a tear-drop. But we don't have bubble-cars, we have things that look good. Hell, even the F-35 candidates were affected by fashion. The air intake of Boeing's plane was fucking HUGE and looked ridiculous. Flew fine though. But it had an effect on the judges. Our armed forces are dressed in tacticool just because they're expected to. Like a uniform, it gives them authority. No, most everything people choose to wear has some bit of fashion statement. From the rags that raiders collect, to the jumpsuits of pilots, to the frill of a politician. They might not have YOUR taste of fashion, but it's there and someone chose it over some alternative.

And when you try and completely remove the utility of a thing, you get the retarded wtf-were-they-thinking monstrosities that walk down the runways. Because it's fucking CLOTHING, it's supposed to serve a function first and THEN you make some allowances for form. Jesus fuck get back on your pills you freaks.

What an eternal shame that such a pretentious dumpster fire of a movie should have had such good visual styling.
>>
>>53911463

I'd even say it's pretty sluttty.

Anyway I think the problem with this thread is that nowdays we don't really think about new textiles and shit. As recently as in the seventies, "future clothing" was all about that. Sure, they did use the styles of the times and extremize them (geometrical patterns, for example), but that wasn't the core of the thing.

For something that SCREAMS future, you're gonna think about technogical differences. Using alternative/emo/whatever chicks doesn't do shit, and neither does recycle renaissance fashion with some slight difference (tough it may serve a purpose in space opera; but a simply reproposing of ancient styles is boring as hell).

Best would be start from that and think about the culture you're trying to convey, of course. Personally I'd need the pic a fucking holographic sari or something for a character of mine (interestingly, some historical saris do feature some narrative embrodery, the idea was something like moving pictures).

Energy weapons in star wars use a gas as well as raw power to fire. All normal blasters have a powerpack and a gas cylinder of some kind. Could be a single large gas tank or could be multiple small gas cylinders in a rotary drum.

I've seen a bunch of 3d printed Haute Couture, so entranced with the novelty of it and ranging from stupid to really interesting even just in the stuff in the exhibit. A lot of high fashion, Haute Couture especially, gets really self-fellating when it comes to the adoption of new materials, and is on the worse end of the spectrum when it comes to dubious aesthetic or conceptual value justified by pedigree's assent to novelty.

All of that is to say that designers get self congratulatory for acting like modernist principles are still new. Even the good looking 3D printed elements could just as easily have been made with injection molding or any number of other techniques, and really just came out to being plastic bits on deconstructionist tutus. I doubt there will be any truly novel 3D printed fashion until we can print textiles with new or specific properties, or mass printing of clothing becomes a thing. Until then its a kinda pointless, halfhearted gesture at futurism to seem forward looking.

I really liked the style of clothing the society in the movie Her has. Its very near future without being sci-fi or anything. Also, it comes off as very odd. Everyone is wearing the same 'stock' of clothes that is very obviously a call back to the sensibility and style of the 50s and 60s.

Also these fashion taste is juxtaposed by the great levels of scientific advancement in the movie. The buildings, the computers, the vehicles - they're all very near future.

It screams to me: 'this society has accepted globalisation and mechanisation socially in society by using traditional ideas to cope'.
