>>
Me and my friends are considering getting into the game. We'd like to do a free for all, with 3 total players. Is there a good way to handle that?
>>
>>53880880
They're starting to add FW stuff before finishing off the normal armies. Would love for the Necron section to be complete. Especially since the leaks are horrible with blurry pages and the points sections are sideways. Not sure how to flip them in the windows 10 pdf viewer.

>>53880820
Any tips on using it effectively?
>>
>>53880874
Ancients are good for dissuading people from shooting certain units.
For instance, centurions+ancient+apothecary is a really powerful combo, since it forces opponents to kill them all off in one turn or they come back, and even when they do kill them they have a 50% chance to fire one last time.

They're good if you have the points, but you have to know how to use them. For Dangles them plus a deathwing knight blob could be quite killy.
>>
>>53880908
I think there's a page in the rulebook about that towards the back.
>>
>>53880908
The rulebook has a pretty clear layout for 1v1v1 games, AFAIK it works fine. 8th seems to play pretty well, things are straightforward and streamlined from 7th bloat.
>>
>>53880908
That's in the rules actually.

Also, thanks, I found it. Looking at the battlemap, the table is divided into quadrants. One player is gonna get stuck in the middle, and the other two players are going to have a lot of open space to their sides that one player doesn't. Is there a better way to do deployment for it?

XV8s are not as good as they used to be but Stealth Suits, Ghostkeels, and certain XV8 builds are still excellent if you properly use drones. Anchor them with a Commander or Shadowsun and declare Montka after you get charged to advance your whole suit-corps away and unload.
>>
>>53881030
So have sisters, haven't they?

On a rectangular table, not really, no.

>>
>>53881083
There's no schedule but we have little hints of information to extrapolate from. GW is giving update priority to Codexes that were not updated in 7th. That means Nids and Guard are pretty much first.
>>
>>53880967
More bodies. There's a lot of firepower there but it won't hold back a tide of boyz/gaunts/conscripts.
>>
>>53881116
Awesome. Are there odds on the codex being good or bad for nids? I've read they have sort of a history with everything being either overpowered or complete trash.
>>
>>53881060
When the bad men try to punch your anime characters, use your frisbees to take the damage instead.

During your turn, yell like a coward ("Mont'ka!") and fly away 9" - 18" depending on the unit types and fire all your guns.
>>
>>53881126
No clue yet. Playtesting should stop it from being shit this time. If they get someone other than Cruddace to lead it then who can say how it will turn out, we haven't seen a non-Cruddex update for Nids in 4 editions. Parts of the index are really good for them, while other parts still clearly have the hallmarks of Cruddace's creatively bankrupt phoned-in design, so it's a crapshoot.

Why do you say that? I've run them in every list so far and they've been brutal. Yeah they're not going to leave the area that they're in, but hold them in reserve to drop them in the thick of the action and they've performed for me. In the last 3 games they've killed old one eye, 2 carnifexes, 2 hive tyrants, and their weight in genestealers.
>>
so I haven't been paying attention, but do you now take turns in combat phase and can jump battle to battle? So like if my opponent finishes his attack, I don't have to attack back with what was attacked and can instead fight something else thats locked in combat to try to remove some of the attacks that could be coming from another squad? thats how i read it at least
>>

So something I'm wondering.

Do Servo-arms give you an extra attack at its profile or let you choose to use the servo attack in place of one of your regular attacks in this edition?
>>
>>53881314
>chose tyranids cause I liked the zerg

>>53881337
Actually yes. I'd at least expect my opponent to paint and base his shit before putting it on the table, but I'm not so autistic as to decline games if they don't. Repeat offenders, though...

No, it's written right there. When you make your attacks, only one of them can be done using the servo arm.
>>
>>53881325
Admittedly the ones I've seen focus more on heavy weapons than melee, but how do you actually get them into combat? Chaos can use Warptime, but you've got to get really lucky on a charge.
>>
>>53881317
thank you very much. that really adds a new level of stategy to the game with combat instead of just attacking willy nilly
>>
>>53881337

>>
>>53881384

i personally can't stand that shit. I wont play with something if it's not painted. thats literally half of the hobby

But that's like the entire theme of melee in 40k. Willy nilly. See: Khorne Berserkers.
>>
>>53881362
I think they use techniques that require less water than traditional farming. I believe most water put into the soil is lost to runoff.
>>
>>53881413
If it brings you any consolation, one of those guants is actually base coated, and I'm working on a color scheme for the army.
>>
>>53881405
Use a command die to reroll the charge, or just have them somewhere threatening so that they can't just walk away from you.

Also, more devoted to heavy weapons? All they can use is a heavy flamer.

I'm thinking about mixing some combiplasma in with my meltas, just for some rapid-fire S7 in their backline. Two things to remember though: 1) 18" apart is enough to deny a deepstrike; 2) Your Termis are going to be nearly double the cost of his vehicles.

Some groups may start houseruling points limits in which you cannot run them to stop the game from becoming Primarchhammer ft. all these little shits no one cares about, 1v1 me.

Speed isn't really an issue with las havoks and the like. What I find is that people plant them somewhere and leave them in place all game to maximize firepower.

Havoks have even less reason to move as they can be placed in ruins or other structures that provide commanding views of the battlefield and give them 2+ saves

If you're looking for resilience the tanks are what you want. It's kind of a 'get what you pay for' thing.

The big thing of 8th is buff bubbles. This ain't necromunda anymore, the time of 'your dudes' fighting it out in a desperate battle for survival is over.

Instead, focus in heroes (named ones are especially powerful) to buff things beyond the limit- priests, Commissars, and commanders, captains, chapter masters, war bosses, swarmlords, autarchs, guilliman's rape train- whatever you bring you must first understand that HQ/elite character buffing is at the center of 8th ed tactics.

So big things:
>snipers, to remove characters (and thereby their auras)
>easily buffable and otherwise relatively expendable units (conscripts, guants, boys/nobs, GSC in general, etc.)
>core deadly units that benefit from buffs a lot (centurions, heavy gun platforms, etc.)
>healing units of you've got em, and a way of killing them quickly if you don't
>a vigil service for any semblance of personality in warh- ah, nevermind.

Carnac has an asperger's driven hatred of Tyranids because he's obsessed with Chaos being muh greatest threat and gets insecure about any other villain race being more threatening. Anytime you see shitposting about how Chaos (or Tau, the other faction he loves to wank) shitting on "NPC" races like Orks or Nids, it's probably Carnac. He's the one who started the whole "NPC race" meme in the first place. Also he samefags like a motherfucker.
>>
>>53882051
I think we'll see more mechanized cults than last edition (at least in lists that are majority cult rather than nids supported by cult). The goliath seem a much better option than they were. I'm thinking about incorporating more sentinels since they're dirt cheap, relatively durable and the scouts have a great t1 threat bubble (9" move, 9" scout, access to most guard vehicle equipment)
>>
>>53882015

Why? That's fucking stupid. Why waste money and time on a non-seller when you can just spam more of your bread and butter? There's a reason car companies straight up discontinue certain models and move on to next year's Corolla or Camry or Civic.
>>
>>53882000
Hmm, well, assuming you're wanting to make a competitive list you'll want the same basics any list should have
>anti-horde
>anti-armor
>anti-elite
>anti-character
>screen units
>objective grabbers.
Tacs are pretty good screens, and termies are good anti-elite. Autocannon Predators are decent anti-armor for their cost, and they can be parked on an objective and hold it for the game because of how tough they are. As a first founding legion, something like the levithan dread is a good and fluffy choice for anti-hordes, if you want to use FW. When building a space marine list, I've found that stacking buffs is of the upmost importance. Apothecaries are a great and cheap choice, and techmarines are a cheap supoort unit for a mechanized army like IH. I'd also suggest getting some bikers to run up and grab objectives.

Infinity player here, this post is starting to make 40k sound like Infinity. The best list is a list with a lot of tools and dudes who can perform certain tasks better than others, whether some can flank around cover to get behind some units or sneak around nabbing objectives. And proper positioning matters.

40k could get the latter things easily by upping its standard terrain game, but otherwise it feels like tactical depth has somewhat improved beyond spamming the most powerful guns as much as possible.
>>
>>53882140
I see. Would you mind posting what you have right now as far as a list goes?
This is for competitive stuff right? Because help building fluffy lists is an entirely different thing.

>The best list is a list with a lot of tools and dudes who can perform certain tasks better than others,
Technically it always was, it's just now the units work like the fluff says they do (terminators and LR are hard as balls to kill, gaunts, boyz and gaurd can drown you in men and so on) rather than previous editions "this gun is good at everything, so just take it"

>hey yeah, new GW loves to put out fresh new models for your dudes!
>just make sure your dudes are Adeptus Astartesâ„¢ captains, Aeldariâ„¢ heroes, or Tauâ„¢ protectors!
>or just buy 500$ of astra militarumâ„¢ conscripts for the ultimate feel of immersion!

I won't fault 8th for moving towards a more succinct and efficient game (I love it), but the last scraps of a narrative focused in any way on a thematic force of distinctly 'your dudes' is definitely being overtaken by necessary (and rather cool tactically speaking) characters and leaders.

Which again is totally fine, in fact figuring out where to place your Commissars/priests/captains/ancients is really cool.

But on the flip side, the time of the lone guardsmen holding against all odds, a dire avenger that got that one perfect shot, or a terminator that decided outnumbered doesn't mean outmatched, is without a doubt over.

We've in a sense traded balance for simplicity, which I'm okay with (SWA is always there), but the focus moving more and more towards the sleek heroism of Guilliman and away from the grim(derp) of the underhive is sad. Of course it's not new, but all the lore and models really solidify it once and for all.
I guess in a sense age of Emperor has come after all, which is good for tabletop
>>
>>53882286

I am. Primaris don't have enough marks to look interesting so I'm going to have like 5 intercessors 5 hellblasters maybe a lieutenant or gravis captain, then rest of my army is staying as is, since I have tons of mixed FW marks.
>>
>>53882286
I play Grey Knights, so it's not like I have a choice. Unless the =][= decides to mindwipe and ship off some Primaris to Titan.
>>53882281
>fast and hard shooty
>low-model psyker

I'd say Orkz for the melee fun.
>>
>>53882286
Yeah... can't take Primaris Crusaders.
>>
Relative to the size of their player base which faction is most in need of new models?
>>
>>53882281
Get a non-NPC army on your list. How about Primaris Marines?
>>
>>53882286
I have to, there aren't primaris versions of Death Company and Sanguinary Guard and I doubt there will be for a long time, if ever.
>>
>>53882227

>What do you mean by standard terrain game?

By this, I mean more terrain standard. Of course, I might be under the impression that the game is played with less terrain than it ideally should be, given what I've seen in some LGSs.

After I've converted up my own dudes, I should build a shitton of terrain to correct this issue.
>>
>>53882313

CSM, Orks, Eldar.
>>
>>53882186
So my current collection:
A captain with or without jump pack
Terminator captain
2 Terminator librarians
Terminator chaplain
Techmarine/Iron Father/Vaylund Cal
Enough marines for 4 tactical squads
5 scouts
9 jump pack marines with magnetized arms +1 with an eviscerator and combat shield, including a set of vanguard equipment
Around 10 combi plasma marines, and 5-10 more with other magnetized combi weapons (Sternguard or 30k veterans or whatever)
Enough heavy weapons to run devastator squads of 4x lascannons, heavy bolters, and missile launchers
3 rhinos/razorbacks
3 predators
1 vindicator
1 contemptor dreadnought
1 sicaran venator

Also a guard detachment:
1 company/platoon commander
1 lord commissar
1 commissar
1 infantry squad or veteran squad
Enough flamers and grenade launchers and demo charges and shit to make a few command or special weapon squads
1 chimera
1 leman russ
1 mortar squad
1 missile launcher squad
>>
>>53882317
You are under the correct impression. Generally, 40k games should be total clusterfucks both in terms of number of dudes on the table and the amount of shit around them
>>
>>53882281

>Fast, squishy, amoral faggots
>Slow, very tough amoral faggots

So you need a medium speed, medium toughness army full of MORAL faggots.
>>
gimme some basics on strategy for
8th ed orks?
>>
>>53882331

He clearly only plays amoral faggots, so the answer would be Black Legion.
>>
>>53882325
Oh and plus all those terminators. 10 vanilla, 5 cataphractii, 5 assault.
>>
>>53882330

I'm a player who likes the small games with scarcely a dozen dudes per side like Inq28 and Kill Team, so dense terrain is ideal though the number of men on the board is more sparse.

This is coming from someone to jumped from 40k to Infinity back to 40k when I learned about Inq28 and Skitarii were released.
>>
Where is the Triumphal way on Ullanor/Armageddon? Wouldn't parts of it still be around even ten thousand years later?

hrm, maybe skitarii/admech or something with walkers
>>
>>53882331
Would that be... Sisters? Power armor but T3, heavy on transports and good jump unit/HQ.

How fast and tough are Tau?
>>
>>53882330
People are going to have to get used to using more big LOS blocking terrain now. Particularly with how hills work now.
>>
>>53882302
>>53882310
So a Melee Horde army - shame they're both NPC factions atm

>>53882331
Tau, Admech or SoB?
>>
>>53882281
Of those two DE. I wouldn't recommend a mono-god Chaos army until a codex.
>>
>>53882306
You're joking right?
There's no point to saying it's not necromunda, it was never even close to the your dudesness of necromunda.
>I won't fault 8th for moving towards a more succinct and efficient game (I love it), but the last scraps of a narrative focused in any way on a thematic force of distinctly 'your dudes' is definitely being overtaken by necessary (and rather cool tactically speaking) characters and leaders.
In what way? Because heros are now able to buff units? That makes it more about the dudes and less about the heroes you retard. Your dudes are intergral rather than a tax so you can take the good units. The onoy thing that's been taken away is relics and stuff like chapter tactics, but that's for the codex.
>But on the flip side, the time of the lone guardsmen holding against all odds, a dire avenger that got that one perfect shot, or a terminator that decided outnumbered doesn't mean outmatched, is without a doubt over.
>mfw
You're joking right? The lone infantry means more now than ever, only a retard would ever claim that this edition is less about your dudes than 7th "deathstar" edition.
>We've in a sense traded balance for simplicity
No, we've traded bloat and imbalance for balance and simplicity. If you're really claiming that previous editions like 7th are more balanced than 8th then you're an idiot.
>which I'm okay with (SWA is always there), but the focus moving more and more towards the sleek heroism of Guilliman and away from the grim(derp) of the underhive is sad.
No it's not. Characters, while strong, are no longer enough to carry whole armies. Only guilliman can really do that, and even then only in the hands of a genuis against a retard.
>>
Were primaris marines a good idea or a bad one?

I wonder if new rules were really needed. I would have bought them if GW had just said "hey these are our new SM kits" - the fact that they are basically better in every way is a little insulting.
>>
>>53882399
I've been playing DE since 5ed
and i picked up TSons since their update

But it gets stagnant quickly and i like to jump factions every few games
>>
>>53882413
>the fact that they are basically better in every way is a little insulting.
Except there worse from a crunch perspective, only a fool would take them over marines at this point.
>>
>>53882226

Orks seem to be not as cared for despite being around for a very long time
Nids eh

>>53882255

Looks interesting, seems like it is ready to take for a whirl
>>
>>53882413

Good idea bad execution. They should've just been new wargear used by old marines (or by Cawl's new batch of old style marines)
>>
Are archons as big a trap as they look?
HQ tax is the only use I can see for them. Only buff they give is other <kabal> units get their 9ld, but sslyth and ur-ghuls, which you'd probably only be taking in a court of the archon, are the only units that really get a benefit.

Kabalite Warrior have 7, their sgt 8, trueborn are all I think 8ld. So you get a +1 for taking a unit worth 54pts, if you're within 6 inches.

Main reason I see for them is you need an HQ and got a start collecting box.
>>
I feel like if normal marines can manhandle lascannons they should be able to use primaris bolters.
>>
>>53882413

I'm fine with them. I love the kits. Had they released them as normal marines, we'd just have a whole mess of other problems, rage, and trolling to deal with. As it is they soft-fluffed and crunched it into a not hard replacement, and hinted that things might go horribly awry in awesome ways later because this is 40k after all.
>>
>>53882426
Oh, I misunderstood. So you're asking what is most different from those two? I'd say Nids. Maybe Guard.

They aren't really a trap, but they haven't really got a place
Take them with an Agoniser+Blast Pistol and 4 SSlyth in a Venom, throw them at elite infantry and laugh since the Sslyth are monster tanks while your Archon -2/-4AP them to death

Is there a more fun idea than a tank with five flame throwers plowing at ludicrous speed into a poor force of commies?

>>53882443
In a Ynnari list, the retinue is an incredibly cost effective and reliable way of adding more units to trigger soul burst. The archon isn't bad at fighting either. Stick an archon and 4 retinue in a venom and you've got a way to deploy six units with one drop.

Everything but your drones is slow as molasses and you have almost nothing in the way of meaningful shooting. Gunlines or tanks will take that apart.
>>
>>53882466

Supposedly. GW keeps winking that they don't know how they will react when exposed to the geneseed flaws of other, more mutated Chapters like the Blood Angels and Space Wolves.

It's possible that some make out fine without the flaw while others double-down on the geneseed curses and turn into something like loyalist Cult troops (CSM Berzerkers, 1ksons, Plague Marines...). Already the Wolfspear Chapter, a Space Wolf Primaris Chapter, seem a good deal less wolfy, though they're also not on Fenris proper.

So how the fuck does he drive a bike with 2 power fists? Cant wait to make this dude kek

He grips the handlebars with his giant powerfists. It's the same way 30k guilliman model unsheathes his sword using a power fist. Pretty sure there's some chaplain with a powerfist holding his crozius too
>>
>>53882499

Nothing really strikes me as terrible. You've included the mathhammered good stuff
Too early in this edition for any teardowns. No one has enough games to really do a ground up.
Gonna have to take it for a spin and learn from experience.
>>
>>53882531
Well if you wanted Marines that are very different from KSons just pick BA or SW.
