>>
>>53879157
I wonder what all that moon says
>>
>>53879235
the deck has a decent amount of game against affinity, but this dude just choked. he saw stony silence in the opening 7 and snap-kept without considering the other 6 cards.
>>
I think this tournament goes to show, it helps to be good, but it is better to be lucky, and either draw like you won the lottery or hope your opponents choke. That affinity player in the finals kept the 4-card hand and won because his opponent choked and because eh drew like he was in Vegas. After all, this is a card game, and if you get enough of the famous busted affinity openers you will win every match.
>>
>>53879368
as the saying goes, 'better lucky than good'

pretty refreshing to see a hatebears deck run 16-1-1 at a modern gp, though.
>>
>>53879368
So I missed the GP like a doofus. What does the top 8 look like, and what did I miss?
>>
Are the lists of the top 8 out yet? I hope Affinity winning doesnt mean they ban Opal.
>>
>>53879368
But it is in Vegas
>>
>>53879455
They won't ban opal. It's used in 4 decks now and banning it would leave a big void. Affinity has been a thing for years.

The plan is probably "Stony Silence is my best card in this matchup and my topdecks are better than his" which is honestly probably correct.

That matchup is pretty terrible.
>>
>>53879654
His decision was horrible, he decided not to mull when the affinity player was still on 7 cards. Had the affinity player kept a decent hand he would have been raped even harder.

I think he just got greedy and did not think it through.

Are any of the budget decks on Goldfish good, or able to be upgraded into something good?
>>
>>53880249
dnt is as budget as it gets. Aether Vial and Canopys are the only expensive part.
>>
>>53880249
BW Tokens is fine for FNM.
If you're buying Lillis for BGx, you can stuff her into 8 rack and do fine, although 8 rack is not good.
If you want to speculate, Humans tribal might see price increases with Ixaltan or whatnot.
>>
Will infect ever be competitive again?
>>
>>53880249
UW Spirits can be pretty good given how the deck can be either disrupting like Faeries, or aggressive and removal-resistant. It also has many routes of upgrade, such as Bant Company, Jeskai Flying Men (also a budget deck), and Esper Spirits. Even in UW it's still has flex slots such as Aether Vial or Favorable Winds.

8 Whack might be successful, but I am not sure. It's cheap to make and upgradge, and has a few valuable pieces that can be used in other decks.

Faeries can start off cheap and become powerful when upgraded, but it requires a lot of skill to use.

WB Tokens isn't too powerful, but it's definitely a thing.

Soul Sisters is linear as hell, but it's cheap.

Zombies isn't as aggressive as Merfolk, but the tribe gets a lot of support, so you could probably find some standard shit and mesh it with some decent Modern zombies for a deck. Tends to be resilient to removal as long as there's no RIP.

Ditto for Humans. Also works with Soul Sisters if you want to be a double Netdecking louse.

Reddit spacing because long paragraphs.

>>
>>53881093
Big enough that one of the largest shops started Frontier so they could run more events. Japan is really strange though. They love to brew and end up having the meta to accommodate strange and obscure tech.
>>
>>53881051
For under $350 and a reasonable amount of stinginess, I think one could make the following. I am not sure how essential certain things are in a deck, though.
>Possibility Storm
>Faeries
>Zombie Hunt (shit)
>Seismic Swans
>UB Mill (shit)
>Bogles
>8Rack
>8Whack
>Death & Taxes
>Spirits (cut Green)
>Mono-Red Burn
>5-Color Living End
>Tooth and Nail
>Spellweaver Helix (depends on combo)

Most of it is simply cutting fetchlands and using budget dual lands as substitute. Some cards can also be replaced for budget, such as RIP/Void with Tormod's Crypt.
(Not listing the Teal Decks because they're obviously budget.)

>>
>>53881815
Thanks bitter anon
>>
>>53881838
Just get the event deck, and slowly upgrade it over time.
>>
>>53881838
You can do both just fine. Budget decks like 8wack, mono red burn, black devotion, BW Tokens, etc. can be built for cheap and and some of them can be upgraded over time or played while you build a meta deck.

If you go ahead and pull the trigger on a "real" deck, you'll obviously do better immediately but sometimes $500- $600 is a bit much up front.
>>
>>53881885
Which event deck? Not that anon, but a dumb one.
>>
>>53881926
The BW Tokens one. It was printed a few years(?) back and goes for like, $50- $60 last time i checked.
>>
>>53881792
I play Esper Spirits (not budget), and it may not be as aggressive as Bant, or as good as Bant overall, at least in a vacuum, but I like being disruptive and having answers. Depends on the meta.

>>53881838
Burn, BW Tokens, Spirits, Humans, Goblins, or Zombies. Certain tribal decks tend to accumulate options over time.
>>
>>53881997
It's 110 now.
>>
>>53882012
Ouch. Well, at least it's cheaper than a meta deck. Probably not worth that price tag, though.

They really should print a new event deck every year with an unlimited print run for that year. Showcase a new staple deck and print a dumbed down version. They'd sell like mad.

UW Jerks. It's like Hatebears but different colours. I can give you a list if you like. Mine probably pushes over the $250 mark but a good chunk of that is the 4 Rune Halos in my sideboard. Is taking turns a viable deck? Budget version?
>>
>>53888284
No. Affinity is performing well because of how dominant death shadow is. Death shadow is more likely to be banned.
>>
>>53888284
don't sell unless you need to liquidate all your shit. Taking turns is good, will probably get a little worse now that people know how to deal with it. I don't really see a budget version being worth it, given that decks like burn or living end which can be made on a budget would be much more viable

Take out their card draw artifacts/enchantments. Without those extra draws they're super likely to fizzle. Or just be aggressive and win before they get to 5 mana.

running bob hinders your ability to play multiple reality smashers. you CAN do it, but i'd rather run smashers because you're not going to out-jund jund with bobs in e&t.
i personally do not board out aether vial for any reason. it generates so much virtual mana over the course of a game that i won't hesitate to call it the best card in the deck. even if they needle it right away, you've got a free-play with eldrazi displacer as a result. just remember to tick it up every upkeep (to whatever # you want it on, usually 3) so you can flickerwisp the needle for some value later on.
taking out thalias is a valid decision though. in fact i've been dicking around with a 3-color list that runs thalias in the board.

So I've been playing Bant Spirits in my local metagame.
>50% of the metagame is Grixis Shadow
>30% is merfolk
>the rest is pretty spread out between eldrazi, burn and scapeshift

I've been doing suprisingly well, mostly because I don't think anyone knows what my deck does, which might be to my benefit. The hardest matchups are usually against merfolk, because they do what I do better. I'm trying new stuff and want to upgrade, but I got super punished when I tried shifting to Knightfall and Counter Company.

Feel free to call me bad, but does Knightfall seem super exposed? I've tested it a lot and never got the combo. Things get bolted, pushed, seized, etc before they seem good, and it feels grindy and not very interactive when Scooze is my only hope. Counter Coco also gets messed with hard since its become so popular, and at this point, I'm jealous of decks that have answers. Also if anyone who plays stuff in my metagame has tips for sideboard stuff they hate, let me know.
>>
>>53889374
This sounds like the most boring meta we have had in a long time. Replace merfolk with affinity and that sums is up well.
>>
>>53889553
I like my friends that play there, and Spirits allows me to evade removal and find answers on the fly.

I know it's not as good as it was, but everytime I get hit with burn, I'm super jealous about just bolting someone's face 3 times out of the blue.
>>
>>53889374
Knightfall isn't a combo deck, it's a fair/grindy beatdown deck with some interaction that happens to have a combo. You were most likely playing it wrong.
>>
>>53884632
Right? Tested as well, drew the entire library and swung with two hasty titans.

Tried out 2 Summoner's Pact and it seemed great.
add Valakut or two with maybe Vesuva, a Wolfrun might be excellent too.

Idk if it's a meme or a dream, but the deck somehow works and it's amazing.
>>
What is even the deal with deathshadow? Is it a bandwagon thing? It's not even a grossly overpowered deck and i'd argue it's not better than most aggro decks, what's up with this meme of everyone playing it?
>>
>>53889718
You're probably not wrong. I really missed Cocoing a real answer to a bad situation (Rattlechains, Drogskoll, Selfless Spirit, hell, even Mausoleum Wanderer).

Regardless, I don't think it was the deck for me. I'll watch some more streams of it being played, see what I messed up, but I wasn't having fun which is most important.

The name's pretty rad though.

I'm wondering if pic related wouldn't be better than griselbrand in that deck.

I know that goryos vengenace says exile it at the beginning of the next endstep.

So reanimating it at the end of your opponents turn and having them discard their hand definitely works and I asume that you also get to draw 7 at the beginning of you end step because it happens at the same time as the exile effect.

This deck gets smashed by any grave hate. 1 RiP or Relis of Progenitus, or Leyline of the Void simply turns off your big kill creatures and by extension, your Stubborn Denials as well as your Spite of Mogis. This obviously harms your Snapcasters but that's true of any snap deck. Ijust feel like grave-hate cards put you in nightmare town, as you don't
>>
>>53890641
Jesus this post got chewed up by mobile nonsense. Nonethenless I just don't think this deck is powerful enough in Game 1 to make its post-board fragility worthwhile. This is not a win-fast deck and people are going to be onto your gameplan before you actually kill them. The best part of this deck is probably that your Big Beaters dodge Fatal Push and Bolt.
I'm not sure if I'm overstating this issue but I think 4 mana leak is really bad here since the speed of your deck will often result in your opponent being able to pay for mana leak so your Third and Fourth copies start looking pretty bad.

I just dropped a single Cryptic Command from my Delver Deck but I'm in 3 colours (Grixis) so it's harder for me to comfortably have 3 Blue mana and I'm just a faster deck period.
You also have very few answers for big creatures on the other side of the board. How do you beat a resolved Reality SMasher? Can you reliably race such a thing? You have threats at 3 CMC, but can you afford to play them on curve if you end up staring down a Liliana of the Veil?
You can try Pongify to answer Creatures, since you can probably deal with a 3/3 on the ground pretty easily. Swan Song is also a great addition here since at WORST you trade a flipped Delver with the 2/2 flier you give them.

You have to reanimate during your turn to get the draw 7 benefit. Otherwise Jin will die/become exiled before the cleanup step checks for Jin's last ability that says "discard down to 7 minus 7".

I also just thought of something. Thing in the Ice might be decent in your deck post-board. If you anticipate grave-hate post board you can trim your cards that get dinked by it and bring in Thing, which doesn't need your graveyard and threatens a Creature that can easily end games.

I was playing sky Hussar for a couple months and having alot of fun. The deck is literally just jank+aether vials and disrupting shoals. Eldrazi Tron is virtually unwinnable though. You have some game against the rest of the field and you will tilt opponents almost guaranteed.

I added grand arbiter at some point and was starting to brew a more artifact focused build when I saw the blue steel deck on a tcg stream about a month ago and that basically does everything I was looking to do. So I've moved my focus toward that.

No, this is way worse then all other hate cards. Id rather run Timely Reinforcements for the same mana, Lightning Helix, Kor Firewalker, Feed the Clan, Obstinate Baloth etc.,
This is bad and if you get skullcracked its game over where as Kor Firewalker comes down earlier and has no drawback and Baloth leaves you with a 4/4 blocker even if skullcracked.
Also not many decks run double white mana and the ones that do would rather have Firewalker or Timely.

>>53896392
Grixis could run it, but doesn't because the +1 doesn't fit in a deck trying to play Kolaghan's command and stubborn denial. It's stock goes up with the increased density of 1 drops, discard, and souls as well. Lingering souls, path, and LotV seem better positioned in this meta than terminate, k-command, and stubborn denial.
>>
>>53896551
This meta? Grixis IS this meta.
>>
>>53896573
Exactly. Path, Souls and LotV are nuts against grixis, as is the increased discard. Denial from grixis is often a dead card so that helps the matchup too. Denial looks great when it's online, but often there's enough discard to strand it in the hand, plus this style of deck want's to use all it's mana every turn and wasting mana when they don't play into denial feels bad.

>>53905735
It's too small, slow, and unimpactful for Hatebears.
>>
>>53902562
Normally I would agree with you, but in this case it was him grieving about how people kept shitting on his deck for being original rather than going on the beaten path. Shitting on netdeckers is usually bad, but so is shitting on brewers, especially when said brewer was (supposedly) doing very well with that deck.

>>53902594
1cmc may be too cheap. A reasonably costed spell in black would be 2 cmc unconditional. Red could have a burn spell that doesn't hit players but still hits planeswalkers and creatures, but the spell would not likely see play outside of standard, assuming that spell is made in standard.

>>53902841
The nice thing about certain budget decks is that they can have paths of upgrade. Mono-Red Burn can be upgraded into Naya Burn, or sidegraded into Goblins or 8whack. UW Spirits can be upgraded into Esper, Jeskai, or its most popular form Bant. GB End has some routes one can go. Certain decks have certain flexible slots depending on what it's trying to accomplish. Conversely, dedicated decks such as Ad Nauseam (non-budget) usually don't have very many flex slots besides certain sideboard slots.

>>53903868
There was a deck that used Gonti in Modern (or maybe it was Standard), but the premise escapes me.

I've played this list before and it's super clunky. Often your isn't very big, you don't have a very good clock, and you aren't very good at grinding games out. I'd just build a deck with 4 crucible 4 asusa because that's the only time the deck is good. Also dromoka's command isn't modern playable and never will be

I want to make Tron and Storm miserable for $200. I have 4 Path, 2 Windswept Heaths, Remand, and Serum Visions, so they won't count against the cost. Don't count Shocklands against the cost, either.

Build Boros burn. Gobbo guide is at an all time low.

Would actually be pretty garbage in this meta. Eldrazi tron would love it if you did that.

Play literally anything. Blue moon is only good against decks that are balls deep in three colours and has a very slow clock.
>>
>>53908672
play a good deck? Blue moon is mediocre against pretty much everything besides b/g/x midrange

I've been playing with wescoe's gw list, and I don't understand the 1 of brimaz. Is this legit? I swapped it out for an eternal witness because it felt mediocre most of the time

Spirits. For less than $150 you can make a UW Spirits deck that counters shit you don't like. Put Disenchant and/or Kami of Ancient Law to hate on Moon. Bant Spirits is better since you get access to Qasali Pridemage and can CoCo into prison-breaking creatures. Cavern of Souls also allows you to breakthrough counterspells in either deck.

Burn is also pretty nasty against Blue Moon since it's usually fast enough and doesn't care about Blood Moon.

Like >>53908866 said, only decks that lack color consistency are going to have significant trouble.

Not sure how Living End does against Blue Moon since many Living End decks do 5 colors now.
>>
>>53909144
Its only had two printings and neither sets had massive print runs. Serum visions was the same way before they decided to reprint it in a dozen supplementary sets

Honestly I just want Splinter Twin unbanned at this point. I didnt even play the deck nor did I really like it that much but it filled an important role in the format by being a slower paced reactive deck that could fight decks like Affinity and friends but also had a combo so they could shit stomp Tron. I am so fucking sick of Tron its such an obnoxious deck, that boils down to play Burn/Affinity/something fast or lose to them. You could play other decks and try to win but a huge % of your sideboard and even some mainboard cards would have to be used to help make that matchup winnable. I just want Twin to come back and be the police and throw Tron in jail because at least you can interact with Twin through Thoughtseize, Liliana, Fatal Push, Path to Exile, Abrupt Decay, Rending Volley and a fast clock.

was curious since it appeared as a 2-of in a couple lists. I ran reality smasher as a 1-of since there are a lot of fair decks in my meta.

Out of curiosity, how necessary are the temples? I wanna run Eldrazi, but a playset is just a bit too much for me right now
>>
>>53910058
She just feels so GOOD, you know? Big ass, evasion+firebreathing, protection from Path and Snag, out of Decay and Push range, easily abused with Morph. If I ever tried to remake Lark or some other Standard deck for funsies she'd be in for sure.

Too bad those decks just aren't good when people try them. The clock's just too fast anymore.
>>
>>53910612
you might as well just run hatebears if you don't have them, they're essential since the only other way to cast eldrazi is ghost quarter
>>
>>53910612
100%. The deck is incredibly worse without it's painless ancient tombs
>>
>>53910632

could something based on morph + flicker work for her?
>>
>>53911137
Monowhite flicker runs her for that reason
>>
>>53911137
She's a spicy one-of in some D&T lists, but at her heydey she showed up alongside Momentary Blink, I ran at least two of her as long as the strategy was in Standard. Yes, even in Pickles, which in retrospect may not have been optimal but nobody expected her there.
>>
>>53909055
It's his pet card, brimaz is win more. Witness, tracker, crusader, or even courser/rallier are probably better.

For a while I played one tracker one courser. It probably wasn't correct but it felt like being the mayor value town.

Speaking of value is anyone playing saheeli in modern? I've been toying with a 4c evolution list but it needs work.
>>
>>53911137
I actually spent a few minutes working up a list based on the GR Snow Ramp decks that were popular at Worlds NY. The plan was to use Into the North and other land-based ramping, disrupt with what LD was available, and finish with a Bogardan Hellkite or an Akroma.
4x Sakura-Tribe Elder
2x Eternal Witness
4x Avalanche Riders
2x Akroma, Angel of Fury
2x Bogardan Hellkite
4x Utopia Sprawl
4x Skred
4x Stone Rain
4x Harmonize
3x Garruk Wildspeaker
4x Plow Under

Received wisdom though is that Ponza is no good in Modern, and your real hope here against fast decks like Burn is that they'll run out of gas thanks to a Plow Under so you can beat them to death in the air. So this build, while faithful to the original, is probably shaky.

It's some who utilizes the internet to find decklists to play. Anybody who doesn't is a fucking idiot honestly. Even if you don't look up highly optimized decks for the format you want to play, it a great way to find fun casual decks that super cheap.
