I plan to run him with the Boyz and he'd be moving an inch slower but the model would look pretty cool.

So how do my fellow Blood Angel players feel about 8th?

So far I love what they did with Mephiston, the fact his sword just automatically makes him S 10 and he has a 5+ save against mortal wounds is huge. The Sanguinor is not as buffed as I wished him to be but he is certainly much better than he was 7th. It's gonna be a goal for me this year to make a Sangunary Guard themed army with priests and The Sangunor leading the charge.

Death Company is disappointing as it seems they got nerfed pretty hard. 4 attacks on the charge with Black Rage and Chainswords also now a 6+ FNP save. It seems mandatory now to take a Chaplin, or Astorath/Lemartes with them. Also what the fuck happened to Death Company Chaplins?

The Death Company Dreadnoughts are beastly as well as the Furioso, and Furioso Fists are amazing. Baal Predators are awesome now, 12 shots with the Assult Cannon coupled with with 6 shots with the heavy bolters means max Dakka.

Tatical Flammer Squads are pretty meh now though seeing as they cost more. Other wise I think the changes are alright.

No, every army got toned down in comparison to 7th ed where the power creep got out of control. Respective to that Tau are fine, their focus is now Fire warriors, suits and Broadsides while the Riptide isnt such a big deal anymore and wont carry you to victory.

Tau are fine.

>>
>>53878725
I play Blood Angels and so far I would say not good. Dreadnoughts are powerful for sure but they are also expensive, at least 25-30 point increase to they once were and around 100 points more for special variants (in my case Death Company and Furioso Dreadnoughts are around 100 points more than they once more. Though I digress, stronger.)

>>53878819
Nah, im just self depreciating. Never satisfied with my work.
>>
>>53878824
Riptides are fine, they are in an army that has neither psychic powers nor real CC units. For optimum strength, it's ruleset requires a gamble for Nova reactor, which has a 1/3 chance to wound the unit every single turn. Also requires the use of markerlights to maximize it's average shooting. I've seen a couple of posts of people saying the 'scour' ML option (ignores cover) is 1 marker light. It's actually 2. Twice as hard to pull off as naysayers claim.

In my experiences of playing with Riptides, the Riptide Wing was undoubtedly the poorest showing of the unit. The double attack option doesn't kill as much as you think it should and not moving a turn, to pull it off, can cost you the game. Also, you generally need to balance out every monstrous/gargantuan creature with some decent amounts of MSU units or you will eventually get worn down/shut down in the later parts of the game. Even in an army of giant robots, MSU/copious wounds still matter.

But please, don't just take my word for it. Any time another whiner about Riptides shows up, clear, empirical evidence is usually the best form of persuasion.

So I present to you a Frontline Gaming video, a supposedly "competitive" list of the Riptide Wing and 2 Stormsurges, getting basically TABLED by Space Marines.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Op5ovJHIE8

Are Riptides too strong? Well, the evidence of this video conclusively proves they aren't.
>>
>>53878765

Nerfed but overall status is hard to determine since people have to consider other army compositions they wouldn't have before due to Riptide wings.
Riptide now though hopped from OP straight to bad.
About 350 pts for a 3 shot plasma gun with long range basically.
>>

I've been out since early sixth and I was a templar only, footslogging force but from what I've been able to keep up with, 8th basically made it so that Tau actually need to use tactics instead of just spamming 2-3 overpowered units.

I've seen/heard some people claim that normal Marines can be "upgraded" to Primaris Marines in lore, but I haven't actually found a source for that beyond some Primaris having service studs (which, considering they've been in action for about a century, doesn't mean much).

Does anyone know where that comes from? I'd like to know because I'd like to fluff my homebrew chapter as going through the modifications to become Primaris, but don't want to actually do it if it's not actually possible.

Playing IG against Death Guard 1000pts, is it normal to outnumber them by about 2:1? He had about 40 poxwalkers, 7 marines, a hellbrute, a drone, and a few characters. I had close to a full infantry platoon, a command tank, another russ, a basilisk, and vets in a Chimera. Blew him off the board by turn two thanks to decent tank rolls and FRFSRF, now he's saying Nurgle is the worst army in the game. Is Nurgle stuff just overcosted, or are Guard firing lines really good?

>So how do my fellow Blood Angel players feel about 8th?
S'okay. Lotta mixed feelings.

Good
>Most named characters seem a lot better
>No more LOW Chapter Masters
>New units
>Heavy Flamers in Devastator Squads (could be wrong here, but I don't think I am)
>Assault Cannon Baal Pred seems semi decent now
>Plasma Pistols finally viable
>Lemartes seems pretty useful
>Non-Supercharge Plasma seems very good
>Changes to Unwieldy weapons seem nice

Bad
>Lemartes still not an HQ
>Tycho and Corbulo still pretty iffy
>No Tartaros or Cataphractii (WHY)
>No Land Speeder Storms
>No Meltas on Assault Squads
>DC lost a few attacks, their FnP got worse, they're no longer Fearless
>Supercharged Plasma seems very bad (instant death rather than a mortal wound blows)
>No Chapter Tactics yet (I know they're almost certainly coming, but w/e)
>Seth locked to Flesh Tearers keyword (move to Mixed if Flesh Tearers get their own Chapter Tactics)
>Flamestorm Baal Pred seems trash since lol8inchrange
>Changes to Heavy Weapons, Vehicles, and Fast Vehicles seem bad

Mixed
>changes to Sanguinary Priests/Novinates
>Black Rage FnP nerfed from 5+ to 6+, but now DC Dreads get it too
>Death Masks seem a little bit more useful now, but cost twice as much
>Hefty price hike on Dreadnoughts of all flavors (but increased survivability)
>Sternguard get a good all-rounder boltgun instead of special ammo, but can no longer strap a combi-weapon to said boltgun.
>Van Vets might have a role?

Looking pretty great, you should be able to fit roughly 20 dreads in 2000 points, and as long as you take plenty of assault cannons, heavy Bolters and heavy flamers you should be fine.

Bit slow, but what can you do? Biggest loss is that the Lucius pod is garbage. I'm thinking about maybe getting a Stormraven for larger games to dump my leviathan into awkward positions.

Well first of all, even if you're playing the best race or one of them, the disparity in power between top and bottom is much smaller than it was in 7th. Also there are units that aren't as OP as others so you can listbuild to avoid the really bullshit stuff.

And then there's going to be the yearly balance updates which should fix things for everyone, too. Also Death Guard have a Codex coming and that will probably completely change things for your friend.

After 12 Mortis dreads and 2 chaplain dreads, I can fit in two regular Dreadnoughts with single twin heavy Bolter and missile launcher.

Space Marine recruitment in the fluff makes no sense to me.

Each individual Space Marine has two gene-seed organs. When implanted into a human male, it turns him into a Space Marine with his own pair of Progenoid glands.

These glands take up to 15 years to ripen to maturity, at which point they can be implanted in a new subject. For the sake of simplicity, we'll assume that both glands mature at the same time and are instantly implanted into a new Space Marine. This means that each generation, the number of "breeding" Space Marines doubles. A predictable exponential growth curve ensues.

At Generation 1, a dedicated son of Roboute Guilliman implants his progenoids into two fertile young boys, who then implant four progenoid glands into four novitiates in Generation 2. At the end of Generation 21, there are enough Space Marines breeding to replace every Space Marine who served during the Great Crusade. By the end of Generation 93, the combined mass of every breeding Space Marine of his line would eclipse the Sun. By the end of Generation 129, there would be 1.08 x 10^41 kilograms of Space Marines, massing more than S5 0014+81 -- the largest supermassive black hole that has been discovered.

In 10,000 years, there are approximately 333 Space Marine generations, for a grand total of 8.749 x 10^99 breeding Space Marines by 999 M41. The combined gravitational pull of the Ultramarines would be enough to destroy Abaddon's Black Crusade warfleet through spaghettification alone, and their accretion disk would blast electromagnetic bursts of radiation capable of cracking daemon worlds in the Eye of Terror.

So why do the Sons of Guilliman need Primaris Marines again?

It's not about how many Primaris Marines a Chapter takes. They aren't just adding the ones Guilliman has to their Chapters and repainting their armour. Guilliman is giving them the tech and resources and how-to guide on MAKING Primaris. A Chapter either accepts that stuff or doesn't, and the ones that do will be making all their new marines using the Primaris method from now on, which means it's just a matter of time until the old ones have all died and been replaced, or taken the "upgrade" that lets existing marines get turned into Primaris.

as far as I've seen the Repressor is the only transport with firing ports. everything else doesn't allow you to shoot out of it unless it's open-topped, and fewer things than you'd think are open topped.

that said, firing angles don't exist anymore so for things like the chimera you can fire both lasgun arrays at the same target - I guess drivers are just really good at doing tactical donuts now

You can still use Roboute Guilliman in any Imperial army. He just won't be at max power except with THE Ultramarines. Honestly they should have made a keyword to identify successors. Yeah, Sammael won't hang out with <Random Faggot Successor 65>, but it would keep counts-as alive and work for guys who DO work well with successors, like Guilliman.

They will as soon as the Codexes are out, trust me.

I mean hell they already started hinting that the Primaris process """might""" (read: will) interact weirdly with some of the more mutated geneseeds like Sanguinius and Russ so they can make superwolfy Primaris wulfen and superdeathy Primaris Death Company in future releases.

I'm sure all the new various Space Marine Codexes will be accompanied by a upgrade sprues meant for converting the core Primaris kits into that Chapter, plus unique new Primaris releases for those Chapters. There won't be any non-Primaris models other than Primarchs released for Space Marines for a long time, possibly ever.

It's really just pure riptide spam that isn't viable anymore. Ghostkeels are great, Crisis teams are great, Hammerheads are great, Tidewall Shieldlines make Pathfinders dramatically harder to kill, etc. Damn near everything else they have is just fine, Riptides just got hit with the nerf hammer really, really hard.

Markerlights are in a weird place to be fair. 1 hit is great and 5 hits are great but in-between is often inconsequential.

Their strength now seems to be in Strike Team firing lines or in flying battlesuit units. A group of Ghostkeels, Stealth Suits, and Crisis Suits can get charged but sacrifice drones to avoid losses and then fly away and open fire.
>>
>>53879205
IS THERE MORE?
>>
Can you have more than one of the same detachment in a list?
>>
>>53880649
Spamming Commanders is more expensive, the only reason it works is because they have the Character keyword. When people learn to use Drones with their Crisis Suits they'll realize they aren't bad.
>>
>>53880649
Longstrike makes them dramatically better, and Longstrike himself is really, really good (especially because he's an HQ).

The table of contents for the FW Xenos Index implies that all the old Hammerhead weapon turrets that you can't buy anymore are getting rules updates as well, and some of those (in particular the missile pod one) ought to be pretty insane with 8th ed updates.

Commanders will get you more damage per point. They have a fourth hardpoint (3MP+ATS is fantastic), and they have BS2+ instead of 4+.
>>
>>53880672
Longstrike is so good that every game I have played my opponent has suicided DS melta units to kill him.

Giving the other Hammerhead(s) effectively BS2 is so threatening that he draws a lot of aggro.

Only question I have is do you run the Railgun or the Ion? The solid shot is pretty low percentage for all the points you spend on a Hammerhead but it does have a potential 9 damage spike.
>>
Does anyone have Vaylund Cal and the Deimos Predator from the forge world astartes leak?

Longstrike's bonus combo-ing with the MW on other Hammerheads' Railguns is also delicious.
>>
>>53880702
>>53880716

So, points cut for Crisis or points increase for Commanders next balance update?
>>
>>53880720
it's worth noting that if you take Ion on the non-Longstrike hammerheads they can't roll a modified 1 to hit, which means they can't overheat even if they overcharge the ion

I had to re-read the FAQ after reading that because it seems so unbelievably stupid that the designer intent is for roll modifiers to affect stuff like that. Like a target being hard to hit might make your weapon overheat, or a commander feeding you targeting data means it will never overheat... seems silly to an extreme
>>
Hey, Necron players, do you think Monoliths are worth their points now?
>>
>>53880748
That would be nice. I'd like to see a little of both; Crisis dropped by a hair (5-10pts) and Commander upped by 10ish. Given Commander has other benefits (Mont'ka/Kauyon+Character benefits+Utility of 4th slot) I feel like he shouldn't be more efficient than the basic unit he's based off of.

death company chaplains only existed so that death company could get the chappy bonuses that they were excluded from getting from the vanila chaplain. now DC chappies are just another loadout for BA chappies.

Anyone happen to have the picture of that printed out Tyranid Index booklet someone made a week back? Need inspiration as I'm creating one for my faction to tide me over until I feel like buying the actual book

From what I'm hearing these indexes are only a temporary thing and codexes will be rolled out for all the factions in the future, don't want to end up paying for the index only for updated rules to be right around the corner

The AoS list builder is free and the fan-made version has been around since the General's Handbook came out. They didn't really care and ended up leaving the site to his original owner and just transferred it on the warhammer community website.
Their official app has the rules for free on it. Dumbass
