>Buying flawed dice at heavily discounted prices

Is this ok?

>Reasons I dare not name
Name them
>>
>>53860330
Presumably so he can float them in a salt solution and collect the ones that always float 20 up.
>>
>>53860316
What flawed dice are you talking about, Rainman? The picture filename says "melted gummy vitamins".
>>
>>53860699
I'm guessing ones that have a bubble or crack and are otherwise not truly random.

Yes, but its double-plusgood OK if you write your own parser.

I only allow dice carved from fossils.

No casuals or poor people allowed in my games.
>>
>>53860800
>not poached elephant ivory
Mammoth tusks can be found just lying on the ground all over Canada and Russia. What's the point in buying rich people stuff if a poor person didn't have to endanger his life for it?
>>
>>53860800
>>53860959
I only allow dice carved from the bones of a slain enemy at my table. No casual pussy ass bitches allowed. Go out and kill someone before you show up.
>>
>>53860959
Hey plenty of poor people suffer on illegal trips to uncover mammoth tusks.
Though its usually brought on by themselves.

No unless you can prove their flaw doesn't affect dice rolls and everyone agrees to them.
>>
>>53861331
>everyone agrees to them

Why did you tell them?
>>
>>53861385
Why play with flawed dice? You're play a game with friends, no point is cheating, people will get mad if they find out. It's not you vs your DM. If you have to cheat in a social game then maybe the game isn't for you.
>>
>>53861428

How is a defected die cheating?
>>
>>53860316
I wonder what would happen if someone were to eat that glorious glob of melted gummy vits...it looks good...
>>
>>53861547
It could favor a certain number IE 20 or 1 thus you can make someone roll low if they use your dice or roll high. There are methods of finding out what side a die favors but it depends on the flaw.
>>
>>53861702
There are still 20 sides. It's not like it guarantees a 20 every time; it's still more or less 5% for every number. They even print big numbers away from other big numbers and vice versa to even it out.
>>
>>53861745
It's entirely dependent on the flaw. If it's noticeable to the point where you know it's affecting the rolls it's cheating. If you, and everyone else, don't notice any difference in rolls then it's fine but at least have the decency to ask if flawed dice are okay. Don't be That Guy.
>>
>>53861547
It's secretly favoring the opposing side, that traitorous polyhedron !
>>
>>53861262
>Allowing them to kill anyone

You either kill me and make your dice from my bones or you don't deserve a seat at my table.
>>
>>53860761
I did a statistics final on this question actually. Random.org had the same exact standard deviation as all eight physical d20s I used (six, three of those spindown dice, one GameScience d20) Wizards of The Coast's online dice roller was similarly accurate.

Over 2000 rolls each, the only notable bias was in Roll20's dice roller, which displayed heavy bias towards 1, 3, and 17.

So no it's not wrong
>>
>>53860316
Depends on the flaw, if you're talking about stuff like the pound o dice they're normally fine. Their defects are almost entirely in colour not shape.
>>
>>53861580
Probably have to get their stomach pumped at the ER, I had a friend who had exactly that happen when he was a kid- ate roughly the same amount of gummy vitamins as you'd find in a package of fruitsnacks (~15) then had to get his stomach pumped as a precaution. He was 5 and needless to say the experience traumatized him and haunts him even after all these years. He avoids gummy vitamins like the plague
>>
>>53860316
Were the vitamins melted with the heat of your loins?
>>
>>53865315
Huh.
Any idea why Roll20 was like that?

>>
>>53865315
My friend rolled only using Roll20 last session. He literally got a success once out of like 15 rolls. He kept getting 1s and 3s. I'm gonna tell him to try rolling normally since he has dice.
>>
>>53867833
Yes, that's what random is.
>>
Not swallowing your dice, passing them through your digestive tract, and picking them out of your poo to attune your dice to you.

It is like you don't even know how to appease the dice gods.
>>
>>53865315
>>53867833
Huh, I wonder how many groups may have TPKed because of that. Sounds like Roll20 should hook into Random.org for the rolling.
>>
>>53869790
Random.org uses atmospheric noise (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atmospheric_noise) to generate random numbers. They have a radio picking up the noise between stations and pick the random numbers up from that noise.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Random.org

Roll20's number generation is more than fine. A cursory look in fact shows that they utilize their own method of true random generation.

https://wiki.roll20.net/QuantumRoll

This is as of 2015.

I also just pulled a random sample of 4995 rolls from roll20 (a d20) and received these results. Please note that 4995 rolls is a very small sample. A better sample would be closer to 50,000.

The largest biases here are for 7, which is an increased frequency of 10.91% (27.25 more rolls out of 249.75 rolls landed on 7 than it should)

but also 10.71% landed on 6 (26.75 less rolls landed on a 6) and -12.31% landed on 8 (30.75 less rolls landed on an 8) both of which border 7.

It's really NOT a bad spread, and it would imply some kind of procedural generation of it was exactly perfect on this scale. I'd definitely say for the purposes of rolling dice, roll20 is a good way to go.

Also if you complain about your failures/losses on roll20, you're basically just unlucky. Also garbage for bitching about it.
>>
>>53860316
Roll 1d?
>>
>>53867628
Computer Scientist here. If they're not fucking retarded, their PRNG should be shitting out all values from 1-20 evenly over a full cycle.
That said, it's WotC so they very well may be retarded.
>>
>>53872300
Or pardon, I keep forgetting that WotC isn't associated with roll20. It's still entirely possible that they're fucking it all up somehow, but any idiot who can pass fizzbuzz should be able to make a PRNG that shits out a fair d3, d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, or d% off the same PRNG cycle.

who the fuck would say yes to this?
>>
>>53880270

All dice are flawed--some are a bit more flawed than others.

No big deal.
>>
>>53865315
Do you still have the data on the distribution of rolls for roll20?
>>
>>53865315
How did you get the rolls? I mean, did you input the "roll 1d20" command 2k times, or did you do 2kd20 once, or what?
>>
>>53879987
It's okay if you're buying them specifically BECAUSE they can't do that purpose as some kind of artistic statement, but other than that yeah.
>>
For some reason I thought a flawed die would be numbered 1, 0, -3, France, infinity, Maybe.
