Well, my flake "Captain Graveborn" can't actually be moved around.

After becoming a Planeswalker (pre-Mending), he was cursed to have his soul bound to the Blind Eternities. The curse happened to also bound his spark there as well. Kind of like a "detention sphere" floating in the Blind Eternities.

So, now he projects his concious into his (now dead) body and uses it to travel about the Multiverse. Kind of like a Lich having their soul (and spark in this instance) bound inside of a Phylactery.

Postin updated art Serena sheet

>Could your flake take on Bolas and last 5 seconds or longer?
I doubt it. She'd last longer than before she lived through Emmy, as that hardened her mental defences somewhat but an actual intentional attack from Bolas would not be something she could withstand.

>What are your hopes for Ixalan? Fears?
I'm going to use Arcane Adaptation and Aven Wing Guide to play Build-an-Angel with servo tokens, Angel of Invention will be making her own little robo angel babies. I fear that the pattern of black creatures being printed in mono-white is getting silly, white zombies wasn't too strange as Amonkhet was supposed to feel strange and 'off' but adding vampires to the list makes me feel uncomfortable for the future.

>Could your flake pass the Trials?
She'd struggle with Kefnet's trial for sure and she might be unwilling to do what the trial of Ambition demands. The other trails would likely be a breeze for the most part.
>>
>>53878093
What happened to your last pic?
>>
>>53878168
Nothin' I just like this one better, I have many to choose from.
>>
Hmm, I should try this out. Are there any rules to making a snowflake?
>>
>>53880812
No, but here is some advice:
>Please do not interact directly with the canon characters
>Don't break canon lore
>Try not to put too many cards on a sheet; this helps us get a more focused understanding of what kinds of things that a character does.

Some tips for doing this are:
>Don't put Legendaries on your sheet
>Gatherer has plenty of good search tools

Go nuts, it's your thing.
>>
>>53880872
What's too many cards? Because I've seen some snowflakes cluttered with them. And if I do have a lot, would it be fine if they follow a particular theme?
>>
>>53881299
Ideally, your card sets should be like

>Spells that your flake uses a lot. Regular, everyday stuff or go-tos, in all ranges of how they usually do their casting.
>Artifacts are basically gear that they carry around.

For spells, 9-12 is gettin' big. If you go higher than that, it gets messy.
>>

1493762711567.png
7MB, 3627x2830px
>>53881299
The number of cards in >>53878093 is probably the tasteful limit. If you optimize space, they're still readable. If you don't, you get >>53872099 where it begins to become illegible.
The number of cards in >>53859553 is too many. While he makes them readable, he also hides their flavor with how he lays them out, forcing you to look them up or already know them if you want details.
The one I'm posting (although the flake itself is one of the better ones) has just too many spells and bad formatting to boot.

Settle on 9-12 as a sensible limit if you can capitalize on the preferred spells space. Settle on 4-8 if you're not so confident.
>>
>>53881381
>>53881389
Gotcha. Thanks.
>>
>>53880872
I'm going to make a flake that breaks ALL THOSE RULES.
Well, not the one about too many cards on a sheet.
>>
>>53881617
Prepare to be cringed at and/or ridiculed.
>>
>>53881648
I don't give a shit.
The flake isn't even a walker.
>>
>>53881648
Cringing and ridiculing is 80% of the purpose of these threads.
>>
>>53881686
Then why make it?
>>
>>53884832
I have my reasons.
>>
>>53886607
> I have my reasons to make another Myr Non-Walker Flake
>>
>>53881389
I wasn't thinking too much about "Spells" when designing her. I just wanted to get the point across that "She's really good at manipulating aether 'energy' and artifacts"
>>
>>53888426
Then put in a few good aether manipulation cards that fit how she would use energy.

Remember, not all instant, sorceries and even enchantments represent magic. A lot of them represent feats of strength, morale, tactics, invention or cleverness.
>>
>>53889279
Fair enough. I'll probably do a bit of cleaning later then.

So, this snowstorm hates hippies and has a massive boner for edgelords.

Choose a BR flake that best represents the black-red color combination and choose which one is the worst as well.
Additionally, spitball some ideas for GW flakes which aren't Selesnya hippies.
>>
>>53891730
Zeres is my favorite of the BR flakes.
I don't want to chose a worse because no bully

I'd rather not artificially balance the colors. It gives a nice flavor to the storm to see what posters are into.
>>
>>53891853
Wait nevermind, yes bully
The worst BR flake is pascobar. He's not black at all and he was only made by someone trying to prove a point. Making flakes just for the sake of making flakes or proving a point isn't something I'm fond of.
>>
>>53891730
>hates hippies
Just because there's a lack of GW doesn't mean that there aren't other hippy flakes and peacemakers. Look again.
>>
>>53892124
But /tg/ does love edgelords. The top four most populated color pairs all have black in them.
>>

Give me a break. Sure, majority of the flakes that have black are probably edgelords. I'll give you that. But, that doesn't make black auto edgy.

Oil isn't an immediate apocalypse on whatever plane it ends up on. It might gradually become a serious problem but keep in mind, Mirrodin was the perfect incubator for the oil.
>>
>>53906443
>drip oil on Zendikar
>A couple baloths get compleated
>they get vaporized by Ulamog along with all the oil
>>
>>53906472
There's no evidence that oil would compleat anything that isn't at least partially metal. At most, it's probably toxic shit that kills normal organic creatures.

Melira's immune to it and can bestow immunity to it and the only thing special about her is her lack of metal bits.
>>
>>53906503
Her lack of metal bits is because of her immunity to oil, not the other way around. The reason people on mirrodin HAVE metal bits is due to the mycosynth, which is fungal form glistening oil.

I figure blue doesn't tend to get "fun" anymore. I mean it was the color of Rayne ("Teacher of the Year" every year) and beebles back in Urza's. Now all they get is two or three Jaces and maybe a fringe-playable counterspell a year.

Cue Merneith, to whom the multiverse is a fun and wonderful place and Planeswalkers are lucky enough to get to see all of it.

General lore question: are walkers aware of the 5 different mana colors? Or do they just associate their magic with specific feelings or techniques.

Giles - The Muscle, and the heavy drinker
Mahurat - The Scout/Fence
Petra - The Vault Cracker
Loren Rivers - The distraction
Janacek - The Barkeep who's got a safe room after the heist.
Shig - The man who's vault they're cracking, who shows up to slow clap the heistees, before
Nameless Knight - The Unwilling Team Member/Patsy when the betrayal goes down

Thane - The guy who hired them to crack the vault, promising them whatever they get inside, if they retrieve just small trinket for him...

In the Planar Chaos novel, Jodah seems to be aware of the colors of mana, or if anything that the mana of the swamps from Urborgs is different than that of his homeland.
However, Jodah is a functionally immortal archwizard and while nowhere near the levels of an oldwalker, he can probably run circles around the gatewatch when it comes to both knowledge and prowess with magic.

You mean what do we actually do with these?
>>
>>53956347
>>53956369
Okay, you made a flake. Now sit here in bitterness, until someone notices and criticizes it! Also, join the discord.
Otherwise, write a story about them, make a card, explain how they cast spells, all that biz. It's a character, try and develop them a bit, and see if you can do anything fun with it. Just have fun my dude.
>>
Yo, I'm trying to make a suitable flake that I could use as an Archenemy, and I had a flavor question for ya'll.

Do you think an Incarnation could get a spark? I was thinking of what would happen if one of Lorwyn's Elemental Incarnations came into being during the aurora, and got split between its two incarnated sides, fucking it up all metaphysically.
Do you think this would fall under the same rule of "mana constructs can't have sparks, barring shenanigans" or not?
>>
>>53956748
Unfortunately, I do think something like that wouldn't work.
>>
>>53956748
Given the precedence of Lorwyn's flamekin being eligible for sparks, the real question appears to be "Is it born?" for this.
>>
>>53956779
I guess that raises the bigger question of "how the fuck to Incarnations happen?"
>>
>>53956496

Hey guys quick qustion.

I fucking love how the Catholic Conquistaodrs in Ixalan are WB Vampires, those colors and that tribe are such a great fit for that flavor.

So now I am trying to make the top down Vampire Jesus, and trying to figure out the general flow.

My basic idea is that some guy teaches that through the power of blood you can have everlasting life, he gets staked by the religious authorities of that era but returns as a Vampire and turns his acolytes.

Then as the sun rises, he sparks in a big flash.

Now we travels the multiverse spreading the good word of Immortality in the kingdom of heaven.

How do you think? I am trying to make it more like Theros, where the pre existing myth is reconfigured into mtg terms(for example, Heliod is White mana so he is the Day father aspects of Zeus coupled with Apollo and Helios, while Zeus' thunder aspects are moved elsewhere.)

The idea is to draw flavor connection between immorality through blood and the idea of conversion but I dont want to go all fedora tier CHRISTIANS ARE THE REAL MONSTERS and all.

So should Vampire Christ be mono W? He general wants to make everyone immortal in the Kingdom of Night.
>>

Since mono white vampires can exist, I say mono white is totally fine.

Is Saint Sanguine too on the nose?

>>53957124
A rad spanish name would be better. Like Eduardo Corrochio
>>
>>53957063
I'd honestly maybe go hybrid mana for it. Depending on how you flavor his own ambitiousness/selfishness/desire to do his thing, he'd be more black than white, but I kind of like the idea of having him partially reconcile the old testament fire and brimstone alongside the new testament's more forgiving bits. Perhaps someone who is damn near impossible to anger, someone who genuinely wants the best for everyone, but when his flock are threatened he actually goes all ten plagues of egypt on their asses.
>>
>>53957136
Alternatively, maybe monowhite but with black-costed style abilities, ala the Fate Reforged Khans.

Alright, I'm back with some amendments to my idea. I'm thinking of changing it from "Incarnation created during the aurora" to "Flamekin that got part of an artifact (like sygg's crown that went to brigid) that would have protected them from the aurora, but was broken and split them between their two forms"

What do you think?
>>
>>53960927
Doesn't really address the problem that something needs to be 'born' to be a planeswalker.
Flamekin are elementals, right? In a sense, they're part of the plane, in the same way 'artifacts' are, and demons are formed from black mana, etc. and so on, so they can't really be defined as something alive and different from the elements that make up a plane.
Also needs to be sentient, but I don't know a lot about flamekin.
Basically, being a planeswalker is human/elf/velkadin/etc. supremacy since more monstrous races don't typically become them. Good example would be the aetherborn - we'll never see an aetherborn walker, even if they WERE immortal, because they're in a sense, constructs. Not really 'sentient' and 'alive' the way something needs to be to have a spark.

Then again this is flake central, so do whatever m8.
>>
>>53961015
Flamekin can have sparks, at least according to Doug Beyer. By his own metric too, we COULD have an aetherborn walker, but considering their lifespan and requirement's it'd either be the result of some crazy bullshit, or a nightmarish villainous mass murderer.
Here's the link to Beyer's question on it. http://dougbeyermtg.tumblr.com/post/88675862654/could-a-lorwyn-flamekin-become-a-planeswalker
>>
I really can't wait for WotC to get their shit straight on what "representation" actually means in this context. We have male walkers, we have female walkers, we have poc female walkers, we even have an elf.

Let's see some canon non-humanoid walkers already. If WotC's target demographics wouldn't think that's the hypest shit who needs them.
>>
>>53961743
Sadly, their reasoning is probably "people can't relate with something that doesn't look like them."

Which is fucking dumb, but whatever.
>>
>>53962667
Not probably.
That literally IS their reasoning.
>>53961015
Sapient. A planeswalker needs to be sapient, not just sentient, which is a big difference.

The Selesnya being the "spirit" of the law has basically ceased to be a thing since the fall of the Guildpact. This and Mat'Selesnya going dormant led to the Conclave going through an identity crisis that ended in Trostani coming into being.

The Orzhov, while self-serving and taking each word of the law to the letter, work as lawyers not only for profit, but to make sure that the laws do exactly what they are supposed to do, so that no one (especially them) will be screwed by them. Contracts are another thing entirely, and they are indeed greedy and cruel as fuck about them.

The Boros Legion does not ignore due process, they have their own process that coincides with the rest of the way that the city's laws are upheld. They literally have cops and rank hierarchies within themselves, and the League of Wojek has its own codes.

The Azorius, while definitely responsible for causing trouble with just stacking laws upon laws in order to prevent much of anything from going wrong, also have their own arresters.

>tl;dr
Your understanding of how each guild works is far too shallow, or just outright wrong.

>Paragon of Truth
This isn't true either. Part of the City of Guilds novel is dedicated to watching Agrus Kos, a Wojek Lieutenant of the Boros Legion, deal with everyday problems on the street. While many guilds disregard the guildless to some extent, some of them actually do care quite a bit about doing the thing that they are supposed to do in order to keep the city running orderly or its citizens in good condition.

Why is WOTC so afraid of combo these days? Granted, the built in opt-out at least costs the opponent a chunk of life, but are they really that afraid of turn 3 explosions still?
>>
>>53964924
New players seem to consider them "unfair", and combo either work poorly in the bare-bones standard environment, or break it in two. MTG is trying to appeal to new players and is pushing standard, as far as I can tell, so I guess there's that.
>>
>>53964904
Thanks for the infodump Ice Age
>>
>>53964924
Look at what happens when combo IS allowed (by accident): we get CopyCat.

But new players think that control is "unfair", they think that anything that works is "unfair" because they're fucking scrubs.

Can spirits be planeswalkers?
Also, what would happen to a planeswalker visiting Lorwyn when the Aurora hit?
>>
>>53916031
I dunno, Temple Garden seems a nice place to read
>>
>>53976764
Nothing dead can be a planeswalker. And you have to have been born to be capable of naturally having a spark. Almost all spirits are ghosts, so no. Kamigawa spirits are...iffy.
And before anything's said, Ugin being the Spirit Dragon is a title rather than a second creature type, and Innistradi vampirism is a curse rather than a form of undeath.
>>
>>53977240
That's what I figured, but wanted to make sure. Thanks. Is there enough info on the Aurora to know the answer to my other question?
>>
>>53977349
Unfortunately, no. Nissa was retconned to have been there just prior, but left right before it happened.
While there's nothing official, it's been used before with other flakes to have a character flip similar to how the residents do.

Spark doesn't normally transfer. Have it ignite on guilt/pleasure of first kill.
>>
>>53980280
Sparks also don't normally occur in aetherborn, as they're not born.

The only way for an aetherborn to gain a spark is to have it transferred to them. Considering what the process of aetherborn life-draining is like, it's possible that they could drain the spark from a planeswalker victim.
