>>
>>53854577
I'm planning on only ordering enough line infantry to fill up two or three squads of veterans, then I'm only going to use them for special characters and conversion work. Some of it I like, some of it I don't. I don't think the female arcadians are quite close enough by the male cadians to run them side by side in the same squad, but as officers or sergeants? Differences will only serve to help them stand out even more. I also like the special weapons. Flamers look good, and using them as regular flamers while using the GW ones as heavy flamers should work out well.

Not now that they finally integrated big models into the game correctly (so that they aren't instantly killed or totally immortal) and pointed them properly.

I can't really speak as I only played with 550 points. I fought 5 custodes who are hyper cheese and killed them in 4 turns with some Autocannon sentinels helping. They fired 200 shots turn 1 and did 3 failed saves, custodes are fucking cheese.
They deleted squads of khorne berserkers a turn though. Great as hell.

Q: If I create an Astra Militarum Regiment of my own
and name them, for example, the ‘Emperor’s Finest’,
and I then also create an Adeptus Astartes Chapter of
my own choosing, and also call them the ‘Emperor’s
Finest’, do the abilities that work on the <Regiment>
and/or <Chapter> keywords now work on both the
Astra Militarum and Adeptus Astartes units?
A: No.

The intent of naming Regiments, Chapters, etc. of your own
creation is to personalise your collections and not to enable
players to circumvent the restrictions on what abilities affect
what units. It is also not intended to circumvent the restrictions
on which units are able to be included in the same Detachment.

So apparently there was a period after the Great Rift opened where the Astronomicon was gone. It's still gone in the Imperium Nihilus, and Guilliman fought off an incursion against the Imperial Palace engineered by Khorne personally before he could set out on the Indominus Crusade.
So all this begs the question: How did Guilliman Deus Ex Machina his way into the center of Imperium Nihilus to bail out the Blood Angels in time? Each new bit of fluff makes the Baal blurb worse.

I've played two games of Orks in 8th and I fuckin love it so much better than 8th so far. My first game was versus necrons and although I lost, it was REALLY close and could of gone either way up until the maybe the last two turns. My second game I won against Marinelets and I could of possibly tabled them by turn 5 if the store didn't close and he ceded. We both had fun and it wasn't because of one army being better than another, it was because of good tactical planning on my side and mediocre tactical planning on his. Also teleporting boys is a great distraction carnifex(s). Share your experiances anons!

Anything particularly interesting in the new fluff from the rulebooks and codexes?
>>
New to 40K, painted for years but never had a chance to play because I used to live in redneck nowhere but now live in a city. I have questions:

-It looks like the new Index books are really cool, but they're made to become obsolete. Am I right in thinking that they're made just to update current/old models to the new system, and when the codices come out they'll be adding/retconning a bunch of stuff that came out today? So the point of buying them is just to get up to speed for and then buy specific codices as the armies are updated and released?

-I'm planning on getting into Marines. Based on what I'm thinking in the last question, is it worth it to buy a Start Collecting box now if the models will be updated within the year? How often has GW been updating or overhauling models? How likely is it that the current models will become obsolete in a short enough time that it would be worth waiting?

-How acceptable is it to start a Marine army with no specific codex, and switching between rule sets in different games? Would people at a store be upset if I used the same models as two different chapters?

Thanks

>>
>>53855133
The only stuff that was in the MRB that I didn't already know was that:
Impatient for quick victory, Khorne TWORE OPEN A PORTAL just outside the Imperial Palace and sent 88 Cohorts of Daemons. The assault was repelled by Guilliman, Primaris Marines, Custodes, and Sisters of Silence before it could reach the Eternity Gate.

For a brief period following the opening of the Great Rift, Astropathic Communication and the Astronomicon were rendered totally silent. And the Legion of the Damned was reported to have materialized across hundreds of besieged worlds that were cut off.

The Imperium Nihulus apparently can't see the Astronomicon at all.

So if you give your CSM havocs/squad prescience (+1 to hit) they can't fail since the lowest they'll get is 2.

Conversely, if you get -1 to hit, you're gonna get cucked as you overhead on a 1 and 2.

Well, if you're going to buy oldmarines, I'd suggest second-hand, just in case they are due for a squatting.

Primaris are the "safe" option, but also overhyped and overpopular. Not so bad when you're playing with your own group but it means at least triple the amount of autists wandering over and telling you how to play your army.

Would suggest Skittles, but it's good to see the amount of Xenos in your group.

>>
>>53855494
>but it means at least triple the amount of autists wandering over and telling you how to play your army.

How often does this happen to you?

Just the other week i had some autist screech that my Iron warrior force doesn't use berzerkers and i should get a Lord on Juggernaut because of how epic he is in combat. And i'm just like "nigga 8th is right around the corner, and the axe of blind fury is dead" - He wasn't happy.
>>
>>53855475

The range advantage is a very nice bonus (15" rapid fire is nothing to sneeze at, especially with plasma) but that AP-1 is deceptive because it doesn't look super impressive until you see just how many shots its applying to, which really skews the numbers.

I did an analysis a few threads back yesterday where I showed equal points of tacticals (with heavy bolter+plasma) out damages primaris marines by about 15-20% while the primaris marines will have 50% more wounds per point.

The typical example is that for every 2 kitted tactical squads you can get 3 intercessor squads and trade some damage potential (especially against vehicles) for a significant boost in survivability against D1 weapons.

That last part matters a lot because anyone shooting D3+ damage weapons at a 100 point intercessor squad isn't trading their time very well. Its almost a trap to shoot them with lascannons or missiles.

Actually that is still in the open (and I honestly do not know if it was intentionally left out of the FAQ or just forgotten).

I see not direct rule about a keyword in the same list.

4th is generally considered best overall, 3rd had some incredible fluff that wasn't in 4th so you need to read both for the full experience, 2nd was the best crunch for its time and had the most fun special rules, 5th was a fucking abortion outside of a few unit-specific fluff entries and a couple good ideas with bad execution like some of the new psychic powers, and 6th was like if someone blended that abortion, drank it, and puked it back up again - even more foul and disgusting, with some of the content lost.
>>
>>53856879

>>
>>53856849

If you ignore the relatively light unit count that was the best Nid codex ever and a strong contender for best unit period, giving you strong encouragement and even advice to convert, letting you partially design your own units...

Like you know Shrikes? Shrikes started as an example of how to modify an existing unit into a new unit.
>>

>>
>>53856905

I loved my 4th Nid'Zilla list with Ravener support
>>
>>53856879
it clearly states you can't choose an existing keyword to circumvent special rule restrictions or building armies.

basically <Regiment> Catachan != Catachan

Replace "emperor's finest" with "catachan" in the following and you see that you don't get Harker's ability.

Q: If I create an Astra Militarum Regiment of my own and name them, for example, the ‘Emperor’s Finest’, and I then also create an Adeptus Astartes Chapter of my own choosing, and also call them the ‘Emperor’s Finest’, do the abilities that work on the <Regiment> and/or <Chapter> keywords now work on both the Astra Militarum and Adeptus Astartes units?
A: No.
The intent of naming Regiments, Chapters, etc. of your own creation is to personalise your collections and not to enable players to circumvent the restrictions on what abilities affect what units. It is also not intended to circumvent the restrictions on which units are able to be included in the same Detachment.
>>

>>
>>53856926
You damn well know that they were referring to OTHER forces. THey wouldn't write a "catachan" codex to have only two units in it, anon.

You can have any of the units in the <regiment> system be in a catachan force and gain the buffs from both catachan characters.
>>
>>53856879
>>53856926

Harker is in the Catachan list, Infantry Squad is in the Astra Militarum list. the FAQ states that you cannot choose an open keyword in another list. ergo, Infantry Squads don't get Harker's bonus.

Yes, the "agents" part of the codex are smaller sections.

But you, honestly, believe GW thinks only two catachans exist in 40k? THere is a clear, and obvious, reason why they chose the example to be <Regiment> and <Chapter>
This is to stop Wu-Tang shit, not stop people having regiments being used as per their <Regiment> rule.

">You then simply replace the <Regiment> Keyword in every instance on that unit's datasheet with the name of your chosen regiment. You cannot choose to replace <Regiment> with Militarum Temptus, but you can use ANY OTHER REGIMENTS that you have read about, or make up your own.

The novel makes Cawl out to be a massive loose cannon and about as blatant a tech-heretic as you can be without going full-on dark mechanicum. The Mechanicus only tolerates him because Guilliman backs him and Guilliman only backs him because he's useful and hasn't done anything outright treasonous.

Iron Warriors had pretty much the most stable geneseed of any legion, if he used any traitor geneseed stocks, he'd use the scrapings from Perterabo's wank sock first.

The bonuses provided by astra militarum units to other units stipulate whether they affect <Regiment> or Astra Militarum in general. All Astra militarum units can fit together in detachments as they are all astra militarum.

Do you think GW's INTENT is that Straken shouldn't be able to order Catachan infantry squads? Really? I don't get how any of this is unclear to you. You can't name a Hive Fleet Catachan and use Tyranids in your IG army, but you can say your infantry squads are Catachan (because, rules as intended, Catachan have IG regiments, not hive fleets or Astartes chapters) and that means Straken gets to order them around.

If I paint a bunch of heresy-era Space Marines as Death Guard, can I run them as Plague Marines? Or do they *have* to be the specific Plague Marine models that GW sells, and my heresy-era would have to be a renegade warband?

I know in friendly stuff you can do counts-as, but for torunaments or more formal games, I like to try and make my army as WYSIWYG as possible.
>>
>>53857503
>I'm blind
>what is the a top hatch

Immolators used to have two fire points from the top hatch, then one, then two, then one again and finally none.

GW is not exactly consistent with their shooting ports.
>>
>>53857476
Yes it is. Its the encompassing regiment of Ogryns. They dont have <regiment> like infantry squads do becuase Ogryns only come from Militarum Auxilla not the multitude of regiments that comprise the IG that GW wants to you be able to pick/choose.
>>
>>53857523
White? Also Lamenters are BA and they're also almost pure yellow. So pick whatever.
>>
>>53857481
Why are you quoting the first post? I am blatantly in favor of saying Catachans can order <regiment> infantry models.

The FAQ is obviously stopping Wu-Tang, not making Cadians and Catachans have 3/2 units respectively. This isn't SoS, who have only 3 units and are MEANT to be part of another force. This is characters in a subsection (Cadia/Catachan) of a larger one (Astra Militarum).

People are just being obtuse intentionally.

You can run them as plague marines, so long as they have cognate armaments.

Should do something to show they are plague marines, like having seeping armour joints or something

Well, when you only had one guy to play at times, and that guy was "that guy", you had the option of not playing, or playing someone who was not only a bad looser but also a bad tactician.
If you wanted to play further than bottom T2, you had to, as I said, play a bit dumb and claim "oh no, certainly that dice is cocked!", "nah, its only half an inch, nothing to argue about, of course your in charge range!", "Am I in cover? Well surely not! You can clearly see at least the rifle barrel on my guy". The list goes on, but you get the picture. Once you get over that part, you can continue to outsmart him, having a game with a few laughs (he's quite a nice guy at heart), and still win the game knowing you did so at a disadvantage.
>>
>>53857868

Second!
>>
Do character auras ever apply to themselves? Or is it a case of if it doesn't say explicitly that it does then the aura does not effect theselve anemic just other units.
>>
Had my second match with Orks today! No boyz spam, no weirdboy, no bikers. Just my mecha list.
Went against my friend's space marines, Black Templars IIRC.
I brought
>1x Mek with Slugga and Killsaw
>1x Badrukk with 3 grot oilers
>5x Flash Gitz
>5x Flash Gitz
>3x Meganobz with Kombi-skorcha and PK
>1x Morkanaut with full equip and KFF

He had two Rhinos with Autocannons with 5-man tac squads inside of them (both with Meltas as special, one with Power fist and one with Power sword on the sergeants), a Thunderfire Cannon, a Drop Pod with another 5-man tac squad in it, and an Ironclad Dreadnought. There was also a company commander or some badass CqC character in it.

Was a surprisingly fast game, I got one objective with 5 Flash Gitz and Badrukk, while his Thunderfire in the first two turns picked off the other 5.
The Morkanaut managed to get a charge on the Ironclad by my 2nd turn (Shooting was atrocious for the entire game though) and smashed it with the stompy attacks, effectively leaving him only the power fist and the melta to try and bring that absolute beast down.
He then moved 3 inches towards the closest enemy effectively locking one of the rhinos in combat and forcing him to take out his two squads.
Did like 5 wounds, smashed them a little more with the Morka. My turn, Meganobz come out, Mek repairs 3 wounds, Meganobz flamers pick off the remaining marines and the Morka puts three wounds by shooting on the Rhino that moved away.
Meganobz charged 2nd Rhino, lose 1 on Overwatch fire, and destroy it.
Pod comes down, marines charge my mek and lose one by overwatch fire (lmao), can't kill him in CC while he kills another one.
His badass character charges the Meganobz but only wounds one, gets killed in return
At this point all that's left is an empty wounded rhino, an empty pod and a Thunderfire that is about to be charged by Meganobz.
The game ends and I took an objective so I won by points and delta.
Overall a good game, had some fun with the lads
