Sisters are super good now! With 3 flamers in a battle sister squad, they're one of the most efficient units in the game at killing conscripts/brimstone/daboyz/gants. Their Dominions can do it too, and be super quick about it, with 4 heavy flamers, and getting to move 18+3d6 in the first turn! I actually really like the design of the Sigmarines, the fluff too.

I just don't like them that much that I'd trade the entire fucking fantasy setting for them. I appreciate they wanted Fantasy Marines™ to boost fantasy sales, but couldn't they have added Sigmar/ines to the existing setting? Sigmar being reborn and leading the Empire, reforging fallen heroes into immortal Order-Daemons could have been slotted in with a minimal amount of disruption to the setting.

I always viewed the Imp Guard as sending substantial forces (as in a few million) and then augmenting them with huge numbers of local boys when they get there. That is why SMs are good in setting, it takes less of them to accomplish a task and so it takes less spaceships to get an army to a location.

They have less firepower and overall less durability than a tac squad, as they have half the firepower (although at ap-1) and are also vulnerable to multi-wound weaponry, as autocannons will wreck them twice as hard as regular marines. Is anybody else getting really fucking wary of the on-rails way plastic sets are designed lately?

I'm a hobbyist who absolutely loves to customise models. The old plastic sets were fantastic for this - they were built out of simple parts with flat connecting points. Legs, torso, arms, head, done. This made it really quite simple to kitbash, convert, repose, and just generally customise the shit out of your army and turn them into Your Dudes(tm).

The plastic sets from the last couple of years though are just total bullshit. The pieces are things like three quarters of a torso with a single thigh attached to it, the bottom quarter of a leg, so forth. They have square pegs for connecting points, so parts will only attach one specific way. All of this means that the sets are very clearly designed to have a single "correct" configuration, and customisation is severely discouraged, with re-posing outright impractical.

The Dark Imperium sprues disgusted me on this note, as it is also reflected in the rules for the new models. The squads have no wargear options whatsoever, the models are designed with one very specific weapon set and that's just what you can use, tough titties.

It makes me nervous for the future direction of the 40k range. They seem to be going the AoS route of phasing out customisation, and giving you premade weapon combinations. All in the name of simplicity..
