I just finished stating the NPCs for tonight's encounter. The Druid is going to try to defeat a local barbarian chieftain and take his clan in order to gather more muscle for her LUST FOR REVENGE. Have a newbie Magus who just joined up so it's going to be his first combat, which will mostly involve martials to make things easier for him. The Slayer is going along for the money.

The selkie Monk is off on a side-quest saving a friendly clan of selkie who disappeared around a spooky cave. He stun-locked and single-handedly killed the half-fiend Chuul boss (whose CR equaled his level) without taking any damage. That was all I was planning to throw at him but since he did so well he's now going to fight its aboleth master who is controlling the people he's trying to save. He's much happier doing this and beating the shit out of eldritch horrors than trying to understand the landwalkers' strange fear of nudity (especially since he doesn't have to wear pants for now).

So what I'm taking away from all of this is the ideal game would be;

A homebrew setting with more standard fantasy faire with the twist that the players are from a guild similar to the Witchers or Grey Wardens. They get dragged on a series of missions that ultimately send them all over the (known) world to find macguffins to finally bring down an evil Overlord. Along the way their adventure involves privateers and other nautical misadventures (maybe they use a boat to get around most of the campaign?)

The game has to run weekly, not be built upon memes, and only vet through dedicated players who won't try to shit the game up.

The first sentence seemed far more elegant to me than the second. It highlights that the lords and everything about them and their lives is old, while the second distracts from that point with overly flowery descriptions of each components that draw out the sentence like a high-school English student trying to write like a master.

The sentence in question drives home that everything about the following story will be taking place very long ago, with people and places that don't exist or don't exist in the same manner they once did anymore.

Talavat (LN goddess of community, self-reliance, and tradition) seems alright. For a lawful gdiety, very chilled out, although I don't really remember antyhign about the kasatha other than their number of arms, so I guess they could eb crazy totalitarian. A theme of "community, tradition, and self reliance" is pretty cool, and I like the mention of learning trust yourself, and the importance of traditions on a personal scale.

Weydan's (CG god of discovery, equality, exploration, and freedom) concept sounds like it could go into space jew territory, but from the blurb it doesn't seem that terribyl written. I do like how he's apparently taken the "deity disguises themselves as an old homeless person" to the absolute extreme.
Yaraesa (NG goddess of knowledge, mental perfection, scholarship, and science) seems to be a more benign and less self interested Irori, who focuses on science instead of punching things. S'cool

Does spell combat mean I have to take a -2 penalty to attacks every time I want to cast, move and attack in succession, or only if I choose to do everything in one action (use shocking grasp and attack without moving or doing anything else)

That's my worry. But like I said, HP is abstract anyway, so I can suspend my disbelief on that. Flavor-wise, I can just say that larger creatures having a massive Strength is what represents the size of the weapon dealing more damage, while not dealing more damage in the hands of a medium creature is just because the medium creature can't swing it properly, and doesn't get enough momentum going.

It's not perfect, but no game is, and I'd rather have a game that runs smoothly than one that's super realistic. We'll have to see how smoothly Starfinder runs, though...

Whatever, pathfinder never had good gods anyway.
Greyhawk was always my favorite when it came to their pantheon, they have real fuckers like Obad-Hai, and St. Cuthbert.
