For those who don't know, Ixalan is the next mainline set after Hour of Devestation, and will be the first set of the Ixalan block. The Ixalan block will additionally be the last block in the Two-Block Paradigm, which will then be abandoned for the Three-and-One Model which will doesn't follow any standard block formula and where all sets will be large sets, starting with the set Dominaria.

If the (many) leaked cards are correct, then the mechanics for Ixalan include, but are not limited to:

Treasure tokens. They're colorless Treasure artifact tokens with "T, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool." Basically an updated version of the tokens named Gold from Theros block.

A keyword action called Explores. It appears to be used only on creatures, and has the reminder text (Reveal the top card of your library. Put that card into your hand if it's a land. Otherwise, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature, then put the card back on top or into your graveyard.)

Dinosaur, Vampires, and Pirate tribal (Dinosaur is a returning creature type that was previously made obsolote by the Grand Creature Type Update).

The ability word Raid, a returning mechanic last seen in Khans of Tarkir. Raid benefited you if you attacked with a creature this turn.

An ability word called Tough. Tough seems to be a triggered ability that triggers whenever damage is dealt to a creature with the Tough ability word.

Story-wise, the set will focus on a sort of pirates vs. aztecs theme. The aztecs appear to be mostly Naya-focused, with an emphasis on big, stompy Dinosaurs, and the Pirates appear to by Grixis-focused with an emphasis on "stealing" cards from your opponents. Additionally, the planeswalker Vraska makes another appearance. Last seen in the Return to Ravnica block, Vraska was a BG Gorgon planeswalker with an emphasis on death, which included both creature destruction, and an alternate-loss mechanic to be used on your opponents.

Name is shit, flavor text probably is too. Wanted to kinda portray the idea that this guy looked for treasure, and that got him killed, but even in death he still looks for treasure.

Seems OK, though I'm not a fan of Landwalk.

Huh, Tough was the only thing I hadn't seen yet. I'll have to go check out what the cards that have it do with it. Depending on the effects, it sounds like a somewhat boring aggro pusher, especially since Raid is making a re-showing, but the last several mechanics that people thought were boring during spoiler season turned out to play well and be popular.

>>53837943
I like everything about this card except the landwalk ability, but it fits the tribe so I can't complain too much. Given that Ixalan will have green Merfolk, making it a green 1/1 that gets Giant Growthed when you bounce an Island could be cool design territory too.

>>53838317
I think it'd be 2/2 if they printed it, since it doesn't ETB tapped, and it takes no other investment besides using a featured set mechanic, so it's essentially free value.

Reposting this from last thread so more people can tear into it. Idea is that Augur is a mashup between Scry and impulse draw, with the mechanics of Nagging thoughts tying it all together. I think it has potential, but I'm biased, and obviously anyone who doesn't like impulse draw won't like it, but hopefully the fact that you can play lands exiled with it as well as the applications of it seeding your yard might win some people over. Or I could be wrong and it could be trash.

Forgot to say that, AFAIK, that's the only card with Tough so far.

>Treasure Seeker
OK.

I posted feedback to this in the last thread. And I have the same opinion then that I do now, mostly that I don't like how, when it's made repeatable and in high values, it's just going to mill through your deck at a high rate. But I could be misunderstanding how Red would like this, it's happened before.

I realize it's a bit off-topic, but I'm really liking the self-hate cards for Hour of Devastation that have been spoilered so far. Even if the Gatewatch doesn't all die, which I would love to see, it's at least fun to watch them get their asses kicked.

Also, on yet another unrelated topic, Archenemy: Nicol Bolas has UBR Bolas go up against WURG Gatewatch, meaning the "good guys" don't have Black in their number. Good job Wizards on making sure people no Black totally isn't evil. You say it often enough, that makes it true, even if you assholes don't put in the effort to show it's true. 10/10, would write like shit and tell instead of show again.

Nixed the islandwalk. Made it before the spoilers so I didn't think about making it green, but returning lands seems to be mostly blue.
>Treasure Seeker
A free 3/2 is way too good. Probably should have a fixed timing (upkeep or end step) and either "can't block" or ETB tapped.
>augur
Reminder text isn't rules text, but you should still change it to say "put the rest into your graveyard" if there's going to be higher numbers. With the potential card advantage I don't know if you actually want to keyword this, especially when it seems mostly red. Then again the new "explore" has similar CA potential so maybe it's fine.

On that note, does anyone remember what the "explore" keyword action was that another anon came up with awhile ago?

>but you should still change it to say "put the rest into your graveyard" if there's going to be higher numbers.
No? He should make it the easiest to understand at the current value. Look at Devour. Devour 1 says "that many +1/+1 counters" Devour 2 says "twice that many +1/+1 counters" Devour 3 says "three times that many +1/+1 counters" and Devour X says "X +1/+1 counters"

Was thinking about automating the reminder text with MSE, my bad.
