I think the biggest indication this might have been intentional is seeing reddit's /r/magictcg reaction so far.

They're pretty much the 'official' forum for Magic, after WoTC took down their shitty forum on their main site. WoTC even declared so, and have their staffs monitoring that place.

You are under the impression that HoD is the "product". It isn't, Magic the Gathering is. If one part of a product is testing poorly, you can generate hype by talking up a part that is testing well.
The only difference is that the cards being hyped won't be released at the same time, but that doesn't matter in the long run. People who are the core magic audience will buy it regardless, for limited and through singles of specific cards, while casual players are hyped by the new cards they hear about, and thus keep interest.

The hardest part of any entertainment business is keeping the fleeting casual demographic interested. You don't worry as much about your core audience, as long as you don't cross certain lines they'll keep coming.

Well they don't punish Reddit because they know very well it's the official forum. They're doing all the marketing work for them for free and all Wizards has to do is reap the benefits.

The mods wouldn't have their job if they didn't buckle to the demands of Wizards. Likewise they won't continue to get sweet official spoilers if they defied Wizards' demands. Threads on there disappear all the time.

That's not to say the Reddit mods are corrupt. But they know their continued autonomy only exists due to the generosity of Wizards. When something is leaked there it will stay for the purposes of appearing independent but you can bet 100% that the mods will have reported the IP address and any other collected information about the leaker to the Wizards Community Managers.

I've been out of the loop on MTG for a while and I mostly play Legacy anyway, but recently I went to check on the B&R list to see if I have to prune anything from my decks.

And holy shit how is so much stuff banned in Standard? What is going on there? This hasn't happened since Mirrodin right? And six of those were just lands that were pretty much the same thing, you have to go back to Urza block to find more bans of substantially different cards in Standard.

Is there any outrage over this? I'm surprised I've heard nothing.

So if you play Hostage Taker on an empty board you don't force a draw and instead just lose. If however, the board wasn't empty when you placed him on the stack but became so before he resolved because of player actions then the player whose card removed the last creature from play would receive the loss instead.

So you tap a 2/1 first striker to mount a 3/2 trample mount vehicle, you get a 5/3 first strike trampler.

But that might need a drawback to stop it being too strong, either not having that great mounts, not having keywords carry, or having mounts kill / damage rider as well- "if this creature would be destroyed, creatures that were tapped to mount it are also destroyed.

I gotta be honest, it seems pretty cool. I almost feel like it's a marketing move to cover up how shitty HOD is, but knowing WOTC its nowhere near that competent and masterful of a move. Also HOD doesn't actually seem to be that shitty. Between the unintentional(?) leaks, the intentional spoilers, and the announcement from the other day I also wonder if they're going the extra mile to cover up the Magic Duels controversy. A company having it's upcoming product leaked certainly seems a hell of a lot more interesting than finding out they stopped supporting something from a couple of years ago that they gave out for free. Just look at us, noone here is talking about it.

Yeah and no one wants the fucking reserved list around anymore but there'd be hell to pay if they dropped it out of the blue after making a promise. They promised that MD would be persistent and always be keeping up with the most recent sets.
