So, I've been meaning to do this for a while, becaus /tg/ enjoys Lovecraft and comics, so here it is: I. N. J. Culbard's rendition of what I personally find is Lovecraft's best story.

Surprisingly enough there are actually two Kadath comic adaptations, however the other looks like a Spy vs. Spy comic and relied more on being able to go absolutely loony to portray the Dreamlands of Earth, while this one attempts to be a more serious adaptation. As this one was in color and had, what I felt, were better visuals, I went with this one instead. Maybe I'll do the other one if people like.

AND SCENE.
>>
That was a fun read. Thanks for posting OP.
>>
>>53823725
Thanks. Let me know what you all think.
>>
I enjoyed it, but am disappointed that some scenes from the story were glossed over or omitted.

I understand it's an adaptation and that such omissions are to be expected, perhaps if it was longer the artist would have had time to include them.
>>
>>53823148
ehs a ghoul guy and doesn't afraid of anything
>>
>>53823863
Personally, while I thought the art style wasn't bad, it felt somewhat smooth and lacked detail that I think would've helped portray the grittiness of Dreamland. All in all, a good read and a faithful adaptation to a fault, but it definitely wasn't anything that would make it a legend in comic or Lovecraftian culture.

Do we have any other requests for other Lovecraftian and/or weird fiction comics? I'm willing to make this something like a monthly thing.
>>
>>53824046
If you don't mind, I love anything Lovecraftian themed, specially Richard Corben's
btw I'm also willing on story-timing adventure comics, problem is they're not in english, so they'd be live TL
>>
>>53823116
I like the strange things they trade. Well, I like everything about this really.
>>
>>53823228
Horrible monsters, crazy places, insane landscapes, friendly talking cats. It's like a Dark Souls prequel.
>>
>>53822163
"It is said that in Ulthar, which lies beyond the river Skai, no man may kill a cat; and this I can verily believe as I gaze upon him who sitteth purring before the fire. For the cat is cryptic, and close to strange things which men cannot see. He is the soul of antique Aegyptus, and bearer of tales from forgotten cities in Meroe and Ophir. He is the kin of the jungle's lords, and heir to the secrets of hoary and sinister Africa. The Sphinx is his cousin, and he speaks her language; but he is more ancient than the Sphinx, and remembers that which she hath forgotten."
>>
>>53823370
I'd like to say, I think Lovecraft would have been pleased with how Carter is portrayed in this comic, physically if nothing else.

Also, I love his awesome outfit, anyone know if it is a real world version of something?
>>
>>53823926
This Pickman's a boss.

Als it's good to know that cats are bros in the dream lands. They're sort of lazy shits here.
>>
>>53824959
That's because they're spending all their time in dreamland.

Freaking fantastic. I've always wanted to read this, thanks a million OP.
Who Nyarlathotep tho?
>>
>>53826220
>>53825893
Alright. I'll drop a thread a week or two from now.
>>
Beautiful work, OP.
You should see about publishing this.
>>
>>53829701
Anon, I... wha...? You know what, It's late, get some sleep.
>>
>>53827846
Nyarlathotep is the messenger of the Other Gods. He is the protector of the gods of Earth, the slave to the mindless daemon sultan Azathoth - who he despises, he is a being of many forms and bodies...
And he notices humanity.
It is not good to be noticed by Nyarlathotep.
>>
>>53829993
There is some amount of conflict about the exact nature of Nyalarthotep, a result of the Mythos not actually being a coherent setting originally. In some stories he's actually a straight up avatar or projection of Azathoth, albeit one with free will.
>>
>>53830023
There's also the fact that Dreamlands is itself considered a separate setting than the Cthulhu Mythos, yet has this major overlap between the two. Not many people realize this.
>>
>>53830051
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Lovecraft didn't have a bit whiteboard and notebook with all the strict definitions of each of these entities and their relationships worked out. He seemed much more fast and loose. All that categorizing came later from Derleth and Arkham House.

Maybe if he lived longer he may have codified and organized it all, but like Howard he didn't make it long enough for that.
>>
>>53823863
Indeed. While much of what they cut wasn't all that relevant, I felt they downplayed Nyarlathotep somewhat. In the original, he's the one who unexistencialises Carter's ghoul allies, and they cut the scene where after Carter gets away he drags the gods of Kadath to their rightful place by himself, showing he never needed Carter's help and was just being a dick and trying to get him killed.
I liked the line where he asks whether he is part of Carter's dream or Carter his, as given his place in what passes for cosmology in the Cthulhu Mythos, that line is quite significant.
>>
>>53830471
Of course, given what Carter is/becomes there's another level to consider.
>>
>>53823801
Simply put, incredible. I have a 14 hour shift that starts soon and instead of sleeping I poured over every single page...no regrets.

>>53821617
Good work by the way, Wayne. If you're interested, the publisher SelfMadeHero has done a fair number of other Lovecraft adaptations with I.N.J. Culbard. I'm pretty sure I have At The Mountains of Madness saved somewhere, I can have a look for it later if you want.

I remember a Leviathan dump long ago. That was great.

I also quite enjoyed this Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath dump. My brother once told me the plot while we were chatting, but it was so ridiculous I had a hard time believing it.
The gods of earth steal Randolph Carter's memories of his childhood, because they are better than the literal ambrosia of the gods. That doesn't sound very lovecraft, does it? And yet...
>>
>>53821617
Based OP is based.

Thank you for posting, it was an enjoyable read. I like when /tg/ gets used for things other than strictly game discussions, this being a good example of something different and still /tg/ related.

Think I'm going to send copies out for gifts to my /tg/ and /co/ and /lit/ inclined friends.

I dig it, but I find the changes to the zoogs/cats weird. Both of their motivations are a lot more out of left field than they are in the books.

thanks for the image dump
