See "committed to the Cabal's plan" is not necessarily the same as "loyal servant of the cabal". By going along with it (at least for a time) the Alpharius twins gain two things that they and the rest of the Legion value very highly, information and flexibility. I doubt that Alpharius would stick his head in the sand when some sketchy aliens came along and told him there was more to the galaxy than he'd been told, but its even more unlikely that he'd simply ACCEPT what he'd been told at face value. Going on missions given to him by the cabal lets him know what their after firsthand, letting him keep in finger in the metaphorical pie in a way he would have never been able too if he'd chosen to refuse the Cabal openly. The Cabal almost certainly knows better than to trust him outright, but even just telling him the bare minimum of what he'd need to do for them might have already given him enough to put things together that they never wanted him to. If Alpharius wanted to re-defect from the Cabal and turn on them, where could he ask for a better position to damage them then as their most notable military asset?

Not saying it was The Plan All Along of course, but its hard to see Alpharius not knowingly choosing the way that would leave him with the most options in the long term.

Omegon strikes me as the more secretive of the Alpharius twins, you can hardly expect him to show his hand so soon and so blatantly as pumping out a bazillion space marines right off the bat. Personally I like the idea that the most overt thing he did with it was set up some spooky ass experimental laboratories in quiet little corners of the galaxy and seeing how much he could do with it before deciding how best to put his looted primarch project goodies to use.

What is it with Forge World and always writing terrible Superheavy Flyer rules? Thunderbolt, Xiphon, Lightning, Storm Eagle family, Arvus all good and useful, but as soon as they become Superheavies you start getting stuff like the 500pt Marauder Destroyer or Thunderhawk Transporter with four normal heavy weapons and nothing else, really. Normal 'Hawk is more than a Warhound and a third as good, Tau ones were good but Manta has way too little gun and the Stormbird isn't actually terrible but still a bit lackluster.

I just want to air superiority the shit out of people and show that Marines don't have a complete stranglehold on mobility.

I would have tried to deChaos a few to make some counts-as Ironstriders for my Mechanicus by repairing the armour, trimming the Nurgle bits a little and switching the chem-flamers for autocannon spares from the spare Dragoon sprues, but the rotors are so fucked it would be a massive pain to make them look good again even if I didn't need all the Lascannon spares I have and more for the Filiketos anyway. I'm a 40k Chaos player and I intend to have an army of each of the 4 marked legions. I allready have a substential amount of WEs and ECs and working on my Death Guard now.

Two questions tho : are TSs actually decent in 30k ? I don't know anything of the balance in this game. Also, would Scarab Ocult terminators work as stand in Sekhmet terminators ? Sekhmet can take tartaros armors but FW is only selling them as Cataphractii and I prefer the Tartaros.

See, I know their geneseed was lost, but not 'failing'. They could still harvest the geneseeds of their own fallen and work with those, but the problem was that the original vault on Terra and the back up supply destined for Luna were both completely lost. Given the rates of attrition from warfare, the EC were losing more men than they were recovering. Chapters have recovered from near-total losses in 40k before, but that's usually after many decades or even centuries of inactivity and rebuilding, which the EC weren't afforded, fighting during the opening days of the Great Crusade.

While only Chemos is outright stated in HH1, their previous source was the aristocratic houses of Europa (which spread to other houses across Terra later on), and it is known that they did continue recruiting from 'elite' bloodlines after the discovery of Fulgrim. I also don't recall seeing anything about them 'not' recruiting from Terra after the re-discovery of Fulgrim. I don't know if we'll ever know for sure, since FW gave the EC most of their pre-Heresy fluff in the first red book and haven't really touched on them since then. However, I'd say it's still entirely plausible for you to have a Terran EC functioning by the time of the Heresy.

I think that might be an early edition fluff. Now it only says the geneseed, instead of the actual warriors, was lost. A combination of a storage blight and/or the cargo ship being destroyed en route to Luna. And since they no longer had geneseed stores and the only other way to make new marines is from dead ones, they were only 300 (auuuh!) ECs at the reunion with Fulgrim.

I got myself the Factory Floor rolling pin from Greenstuff World for my Genetor bases because fuck texture paint, and my first attempt at making bases with it (Cyber-occularis) has them standing on a slab of metal almost as THICC as some people's cork rocks. Also just a little indistinct, but that will improve with practice, I expect.

Iron Father Bannus finally gets rules and a model so Iron Hand players at long last get an HQ dreadnought character model after years of getting their gimmick stolen by the Salamanders, Emperor's Children, Red Scorpions, and Howling Griffons. He is (according to the novel Iron Hand) a souped up boxnaught with an assault cannon, chainfist, and probably a banner to round it all out.

Chaplain dreads get an update after three editions of sidelining and are moved to the HQ slot with the Zealot bubble they deserved from day one.

Siege Mantlets retain their reroll of failed armor saves when the redo the Siege Assault Vanguard list.

Dino Riding space marines are one of the few retrohammer models they haven't redone and quite frankly I think they'd make for an amazing and/or hilarious Fast Attack option.

The Saber (casemate predator or rhino with a hull gun depending on who you ask) and the Rhino Advancer (20-model transport originally portrayed as opened topped but possibly shown as something of a double-razorback in a later model) are both longtime demi-canonical rhino variants that tickle my logistics bone in just the right way that I could see myself spending money on an official resin conversion kit if it meant that they were finally brought back into the limelight.

Taking those Badab War scenario specific suicide rhinos filled with biological weapons and making them into a general unit option I can see being fun.

Imperial Guard and AdMech/Skitarri finally getting their own rhinos. For the IG I'd be fine if it were limited to command/veteran squads and maybe had the option of swapping the storm bolter for a heavy stubber or maybe a multi-laser, but you can not and will not convince me that the cogboys don't have pintle mounted TL-rad carbines/galvanic rifles at they very least somewhere in their bag of crazy sci-fi junk.

Beggars can't be choosers. If I could get two things out of 7.5, it'd be those. The 7th Ed AP system isn't perfect, but I can at least tolerate that. A reduction in Marine-mulching blast weapons and updated point costs would at least make 7.5 more enjoyable til 8th, since it'd at least allow infantry back on the table and possibly give neglected/overcosted units an opportunity with tweaked point costs.

Now of course, if we could also have the new AP system too, it'd be good times. I just think that there are bigger issues with 7th's balance that, if resolved, could at least allow 7.5 to be enjoyed while they transfer the whole system to 8th.

One anon was trying to find options for his snowflake Blackshields, and as soon as Primaris hit he latched onto them. A few other anons in the thread enjoyed the idea too, or at least humored it. It's probably the same guy that was trying to make an all Thunder Warrior force. I'll give him a B for spirit, but if he's looking to use Primaris to use as BIG BLACKSHIELDS, they're definitely going to need some work.

That said, you're in luck Blackshield Anon: standard marine heads and shoulderpads fit Primaris marines just fine, so if you're that determined to convert your way to snowflakey glory, you can start there.

Played a game with my Custodes against traitor Blackshields today; super weird.

I rolled so horribly to wound unless he had Invuls and even then he would just pass them. He rolled well but I never failed saves.

Yup, it costs too many points for what it brings to the table. I love the thing, I really do, but I can't justify it at the moment. The idea is nice, but for about the same price in points you could bring two Spartans that'll carry 10 more guys total and likely deal more damage on their own as well, while increasing their overall survivability by being two targets instead of one (two Spartans will also cost you 2/3 of what the Mastodon does as well, saving you money). By comparison, you're paying 700 points for a super-heavy transport, so you're inevitably carrying something within, which further increases the amount of points being dedicated into this single piece. Its primary weapon is overkill against small targets, and kinda underwhelming against anything with Armored Ceramite, though it's alright if you're going to be playing a lot of matches with fortifications. The sponsons exist to keep it from being completely under-gunned, and while the AA gun is nice it shouldn't be your list's primary source of AA.

If you're looking for a centerpiece, a super-heavy battle tank will do the job in appearances and in kills for considerably fewer points. If you want a powerful transport that's not a Spartan you can get a Thunderhawk and toss some goodies on it to ruin someone's day. But until the Mastodon gets cheaper, there's not much reason to bring it.
