Playing loam pox/nonblue control. It is pretty well positioned but loses to eldrazi without ensnaring bridge.

Not hating anyone, just tuning the deck to adjust to the meta.

Smallpox and life from the loam are so underrated.

Then why does infect always get pooped on by the aforementioned decks at NBL events?

The last NBL event I went to I played junk midrange with stoneforge to tutor skullclamp/jitte and lingering souls to abuse the clamp. My vigorous discard and removal just crawled up infect's asshole and set up a camp site and beat them down

This list is 95% accurate to what I am playing. It holds its own against just about every popular deck. You are correct about eldrazi tron, it's a tough matchup for loam pox. But you can land ensnaring bridge and you pretty much win then. I play buried ruin in the board when I need more bridges or engineered explosives.

Affinity player here. How do I play against stony silence? I usually board out some number of platings and overseers because they become pretty much useless if it hits the board. I always board in etched champions because they will be online in despite of stony silence but I dont know whether I should try to keep them from playing it with things like spell pierce and thoughtseize or if I should play wear and tear to destroy it after it hits the board.
>>
>>53758889
All of those are valid answers, and I like to use Masters if I can as well. If I had to choose between Wear and Tear, Thoughtseize, and Spell Pierce I'd go with Thoughtseize followed by Wear and Tear. Two Thoughtseizes in the side, and one to two Wear and Tears sounds good to me.
>>
>>53758889
You take your easy win game one and fold to it post board like you're decks supposed to
>>
>>53758889
As a general rule I prefer to never answer their hate with answers for their hate. I feel like you're doing the right thing by just bypassing their hate using Masters of Etherium or Etched Champions.

They're the ones playing a dead card, answer it by being proactive not by playing dead cards of your own. To that end, Ghirapur Æther Grid is my favorite "answer" to Stony Silence.

I'll second this post, this is a good answer even though it's not to my personal preferences.
>>53758980
>>
>>53758889
NEVER board out payoffs, the odds of your opponent having Stony in time (with other relevant action so they don't die to manland/skirge/pest beats) are severely lower than not. Your best bet is a playset of Etched Champion and Blasts for reach, Thoughtseize and Spell Pierce are also fine (shave a Memnite and a land on the draw/a drum on the play) but not 100% reliable for obvious reasons.
Grid is also an option, even though the card is worse nowadays unless you play the mirror a lot.

plenty playable. harsh mentor and tunnel ignus are both two drops that hate on fetchlands, though mentor is a better maindeck piece and ignus would be something you bring into a valakut meta.
you can play these kinds of decks well with knowledge of the format. sometimes you play arbiter on two. sometimes you jam spirit first. sometimes you want to run out thalia into grixis mana to ensure a tapout on their turn 2 so you can sneak in a magus of the moon on turn 3. it's all subjective.

I see that unbanning Stoneforge is kinda safe now that we have Fatal push (it also kills the germ token) but a similar unban should left at least the other decks without changes.
I mean if you unban Stoneforge and ban Wraith then you have a huge shift in the meta again, and it is a no-sense. I would see her unbanning as a response to shake up the format.
But in the end, am I the only one who predicts a no-changes?
>>
>>53760151
no, I think no changes is the most likely outcome given that wotc typically uses GP results and the past modern GPs were much more diverse than the latest SCG result.

The Vizier combo though I think is 50/50 on banning, since it probably wasn't intended and relatively consistent

Newbie question: what is a delver deck and what is a dredge deck? (Google gives lots of deck builds but not a lot of explanations)
>>
>>53761570
google delver of secrets and dredge mechanic. that explains the whole deck concept
>>
>>53761570
Delver decks include Delver of Secrets as the main threat. To make Delver useful you need a large amount of instants and sorceries so delver decks typically have a lot of them. Since delver is so cheap (mana wise) usually delver decks will use their instants and sorceries messing with the opponent, killing their creatures, countering their spells, etc, while delver wins the game. There isn't really a set delver deck list in modern because it's not particularly competitive.
Dredge decks use the dredge mechanic to fill their graveyard with cards from their library, and their deck is filled with creatures that come back from the graveyard to the library. This is a pretty standard dredge modern list https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-dredge-26688#paper
>>
>>53761626
>won a GP last year
>not particularly competitive.
I get that it's not particularly competitive at the moment, but that sounds a little harsh.
>>
>>53761706
Modern doesn't have the tools that Legacy has to make sure that Delver flips on T2 and blue is just weaker in general.

I wouldn't say that Delver is bad, but there's a good reason why you don't see it in the top tiers.

Delver decks are like crappy ports of old legacy Canadian Threshold to a format where it isn't particularly strong (or rather it is but you need to play Death's Shadow and Gurmag Angler as threats instead). A lot of the supposed delver decks in modern are actually snapcaster mage burn decks.

Dredge decks (in modern) involve filling up the graveyard using looting and cards with the dredge keyword and then getting guys back from the graveyard for roughly free instead of actually playing cards the normal way.

Looks okay, though I think 3 Prismatic Omen in the main is one too many (I get why it's there, but I usually just run one because I don't want to ever get stuck with two)... also, why 2 Sowing Salt in the side instead of 3 Crumble--you that worried about Surgical?

What's your meta like?

If you don't have much Abzan company, and you have a good bit of Tron/Bogles/Death's Shadow, consider trying Ancient Stirrings with a few Kozilek's Returns (in the main instead of 3 Anger) to go with some of your sideboard options.

If you don't have any control in your meta, Breach is pretty sweet.

If you have no clue about the meta, your build is probably fine.
>>
>>53763153
I forgot to mention... back when I did run Ancient Stirrings in my non-Breach build, a lot of my successes were on the back of running 1 Chalice in the main and another in the side.

Just got back from my LGS's Modern Monday. Had 10 players, went 3-1 with Ponza and came 4th. Last game was the actual dream. On the play T1 Arbor Elves, T2 Utopia Sprawl into Chandra -3 your Heirarch, had another removal spell in hand, top decked an Inferno Titan shortly after. Opponent was on Counters Company so everything in his deck wilted to the Inferno Titan. Shit was cash. Wouldn't recommend the deck though.

I'll ask here too.

What do YOU use to display double sided cards in your deck?

Do you take them out of the sleeves and flip them manually? (Even if double sleeved?)
Do you buy two and have one main deck, and one off to the side?
Do you actually use the double-card tokens and have the real card in a clear sleeve?
>>
>>53768486

Double sleeved just makes it easier. Perfect fits are clear.

>>
>>53773963
you're essentially playing artifact reanimator, so i'd just drop every counterspell that isn't 'dispel' and start jamming springleaf drums and the full boat of ensoul artifact. no mana leaks, no serum visions. jam 4 shrapnel blast in addition to galvanic blast. i would suggest 4x simian spirit guides to power out a combo turn early, but you did say 'budget'.
>>
>>53773963
1) Make a sideboard. I would recommend Echoing Truth just in case they RIP, Cage, or Void you. Pia and Kiran Nalaar, and Maverick Thopterist could gum up the board and provide artifact support. Phyrexian Revoker shuts down planeswalkers. Metallic Rebuke and Stoic Rebuttal are artifact-relevant counterspells that you could consider swapping out or adding in. Lightning Bolt should probably be an auto-include just so you can back-up with more answers and burn. For shits n' giggles you could jam in a Barrage Tyrant to chuck your reanimated stuff at your opponent after they have attacked.

2) Even with answers to graveyard hate you still need a back-up plan against it. Ensoul Artifact might not be enough, but who knows. Pia and Kiran Nalaar, provide creatures to beatdown with. Maverick Thopterist might be a good, too.

3) Sharuum the Hegemon is also a good reanimator target, since it also brings another artifact back when it enters. Plus it isn't very pricey to buy, I think. Scuttling Doom Engine has some ouch, but I am not sure how good it is.

4) Shrapnel Blast might be useful as a situational burn spell, but Galvanic Blast is overall better, so if you include SB, don't take out any GBs. Just a thought, though.

5) You could switch to Mardu, Boros, Grixis, Jeskai, or Orzhov to get other reanimation spells such as Unburial Rites or Refurbish. Black gives you Inquisition, Duress, Grasp of Darkness, Languish, and Doom Blade; and White gets you Condemn, Disenchant, Fragmentize, and even Ethersworn Canonist. Grixis gets you Tezzeret's Touch for an extra Ensoul.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rYYzKo6S9g

>>53774499
I do this, too. Partly because it avoids confusion: I know what I'm doing because I'm not an idiot, he knows what im doing because he does it, too. And partly for the psychological aspect: if he can see familiar traits in me, my opponent will relax and start feeling comfortable. That, combined with conversation, can cause mistakes not immediately caught and give me the win.

Am I autistic for doing this? Probably. I think of it as employing the same tactics as pro poker players. Play the person, then the game.
>>
>>53774650
This is the sort of autism I still come to 4chan for. Godbless you anon, I wish the psychologist anon was here to diagnose you.

I've played titanshift more than a year and your build looks passable. I would cut omen completely, I did it early on. It's a win more of the worst kind because if you go for a scapeshift on 6 lands and they decay/bounce it you just lose. It just opens you up to blowouts that otherwise wouldn't be possible, just play khalni heart expedition. Not having 4 explores is incorrect. 3 angers is too much in the main, 1-2 in the main with the rest in the side. You have zero ways to answer a blood moon in the side, fix that with 2 nature's claims and a reclamation sage.

Decks that I usually play against have 1-2 basics that are fetched out with veteran explorer, making path have no downside. Nic Fit also uses lands better than other decks that play mostly 1-3 cost spells. In the end it's personal preference, but as a midrange deck I would rather them have more lands than more health.
As a bonus, path gives dark depths the shaft.

U/R Delver, Kiln Fiends to attempt the Cantrip/Slip Through Space/Battle Rage combo, and now working on a shell with Enigma Drake for it's good bulk and not being a Nivix Cyclops
>Favorite Deck?
My goal right now is to build towards Jeskai Geist, almost had to commit suicide over a scare where I thought I had brought my Flooded Strand playset with me this weekend and it got stolen but it turns out they were safe at home so that plan is still on track
>what do you wish was good?
Jeskai Tempo.

Mid combat K-command to shatter your drum and kill your signal pest, you no longer have metal craft and shadow eats your dude.

Death's shadow isn't a rough matchup for affinity because they can race, it's because they have 4 push 2 terminate for the 1 or 2 actually threatening robots and they main deck 2-3 K-command that can actually interact with plating and is always a monster 2-for-1, while having large ground blockers and a reasonable clock.

But anon, I have Darskteel Citadel and another Etched Champion out, and the rise in Death's Shadow has me maindecking welding jar.

Brewing a polymorph deck. Is there a blue card like thirst for knowledge that lets me draw cards and then discard some that costs less than 3 mana?

>>
>>53793308
At 3 mana you get thirst, research, and pieces of the puzzle, 2 mana doesn't often net you that in blue unless you go run contingency plan or that UU draw 3 discard 3 spell (forget the name but from Kamigawa), either that or run red for stuff like izzet charm (not a bad idea with that new red polymorph)
>>
>Playing mono red burn with heroic/prowess mechanic to buff 1 mana creatures

Is it worth it to put Surgical Extraction in for what is essentially a free spell that will trigger prowess? Also looking for some combo hate
>>
Where can I find matchup spreads? I've been browsing around and wizards told mtg goldfish they couldn't publish matchup winrates anymore. That's old news but presumably someone would fill the gap given that the data is out there and still being mined. Can anyone here point me in the right direction?
>>
>>53794172
Just play burn.
>>
>>53787418

Sorry for the late reply, second shift is fun.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/14-06-17-junk-fit/

I can explain what the deck attempts to do if you want, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate for the modern thread. For the purposes of staying on topic unban GSZ
>>
>>53794281
Wizards did more than just ask people to stop publishing win rates, they also limited the viewing of replays (win rate data is collected by bots watching replays and figuring out which deck is playing which by the cards they're playing) to only people who participated in the event.
>>
>>53794873
Was there even a justified reason for them to do so?
>>
>>53794902
They don't like people having win rates because they believe people will declare a single deck the 'best' before the (standard) format is thoroughly explored.
>>
>>53794942
That's so dumb! Information doesn't prevent exploration, it enables it. This is so frustrating.
>>
>>53755228
so much for that

Nice try, shitposter.

I not attending a modern event unless one of two things happen.

1. Death shadow is taken down a notch.

2. Cards become legal that make white or blue(not merfolk) based decks viable.
>>

Grixis Death's Shadow is viable :P

The difference is that thought about and semen visions don't make you play cards like mishra's bauble, and can find lands, creatures, or spells, as opposed to traverse which only gets lands or dudes.

Plus, if you play grixis you have tasigur and angler which can't be pushed like goyf can.
>>
>>53798393
Yeah, it's not like Wx decks are all over the format or anything.

Land(s) at 2 o'clock, first is replaced by full art and dice used to count them.

Jace the mind sculptor is too strong, but Liliana of the veil is fine

Ponder is broken, but look 5, draw tron piece or Karn is not.

Preordain is making storm op, but creature fetch for 1cmc is not.

Bloodbraid is way too much value, but 1cmc 4/5, 5/5 or 12/12 is not.

2cmc counterspell would make this format unfun, but 1cmc see-your-hand-and-discard-your-best-card is completely fine.

How the fuck did they manage to make Path to Exile second best creature removal?

I don't know how this format is still somewhat playable.
