It's call statistics. Blacks are far more likely to have a gun and they're FAR more likely to use it on police. Obviously police exercise a greater degree of caution when they are dealing with someone statistically far more likely to try to kill them.

I can understand that double standards are unfair, but I am not sure if anyone, even whites, would get away with sudden movements that would look like a gun draw. Not to mention that this guy is likely from a neighborhood that has a significant amount of law-breaking and violence-resorting folk. Even if it's racist to assume he might be one of them with the most likely reason being his ethnicity, it's still not very smart to mess with a cop, especially one pointing a gun.
I can see people getting angry at cases of clear police brutality, or even ambiguous cases where everyone without a strong political bias wants to know the truth of the situation, but this does not seem like a case of police brutality to me, at least not one that warrants much, if any, of a protest.

That's where things get tricky. The police practices of greater scrutiny of African Americas in certain neighborhoods can be argued as justified, but it's still an unfair practice. I am not sure how widespread police brutality actually is because of how individual cases have gotten so much attention, but it really sucks when the citizens and the law enforcement don't trust each other, so it creates this vicious cycle where one sees the other as the bad guys when it shouldn't be that way.

Keep in mind that a lot of this is just about perspective of what is shown on the news/social media. I have seen videos of white people being arrested who have pistols or rifles on full displayy, and they are clearly terrorizing public spaces, and not a single bullet gets thrown their direction. But I have also seen white people get shot for pulling the "finger gun" trick as well so none of this is about which race gets shot by the cops for stuff like this.

My frustration is two-fold. First is people on social media looking at this and trying to frame the police as the bad guys; that officer did his job and acted on the best information he had and I have no fault with him in this situation. There are legitimate cases of police brutality but this isn't one of them. People shouldn't be trying to frame a criminal as a victim when he had every hand in his getting shot. Had he been going for his wallet and gotten shot that would be different.

And People using this as more excuses to distrust black people on the day to day. I like the police and I am pretty comfortable with law enforcement in my area. But once I start travelling I am always wary of the cops because I don't know if they are looking at me as just another citizen, or as a potential threat. And all it takes is the wrong clothes, wrong mannerism, or wrong movement for that image of me to change in other people's mind.
