I wonder if greenskin posture could be transposed on to damsel bodies to make some hunchbacked crone damsels.

I dunno, it might make their models look twisted. But I'm pretty sure it's in the lore that all damsels are young, and there don't seem to be any old ones. Of course, in Kislev it's a miracle to get a practitioner of magic that's a young woman...

Do any of you use your Warhammer collections to play skirmish games now and then?

I remember someone here posted an 'Oldhammer' warband of 80's models on round bases and he said he used it to play Oldhammer with, but to my knowledge Oldhammer is 3rd edition. I just wondered if he was still here or if anyone knew what he was on about?
>>
>>53718151
I remember someone made Kislev war bears out of reskinned Demigryphs, they looked ridiculous.

There's also those mods for Empire Merc Ogres that were basically scaled-up bald Slayers/half-naked Irondrakes, they were hilarious.

It seems fitting: the greatest romance of the setting isn't between Karl Franz and his waifu, or Leoun and his lady, but between two undead beings who swore of the shackles of humanity years ago and are twisted in everything but their devotion for each other. How lovely, yet grimdark.

Well, technically Orion and Ariel count as a romance, but it's never really looked at much.

He's got a wife and two kids.

I'm going to keep some of the art and some of the unique regiments, though. That stuff was the shit and can easily be brought back into pre-ET stuff half the time.

Besides, a few even have interesting tidbits of fluff - one of the undead regiments mentions how necromantic energy actually changes the designs on shields and banners. It helps explain why apparently every VC skeleton has bats and skulls and shit on their shields.

>3e was rough but it had the germ of something cool in it.

Yeah, it's called Star Wars: Edge of the Empire.

Much as I love that system, I will never not be bitter at FFG for essentially using WHFRPG 3e as a beta test for it.

Honestly, percentile really just fits warhammer better. It's far less heroic.

Are there any sources that explain how the Bretonnian navy is so modern while the army is so ass backward, and how the crews interact with the rest of society? Like, are they all technically knights, and just ignore the fact that they're swabbing poop decks, or are they all peasants and ignore that they are extraordinarily well trained in such a shitty society?

Quite frankly it's just a bit of older lore that never got changed as the setting did, and they've just awkwardly stepped around the issue. If someone wanted, they could probably explain it without breaking the lore too badly - I might even take a shot at it someday as a bit of headcanon - but even those who don't like the state of the Bretonnian navy don't really have an organized idea of what it should be instead.

As to your question, I think that's explained/implied well enough in that old Bretonnian navy lore - the nobles act as officers, the peasants act as crewmen, sailors, and possibly 'marines.' Probably based a lot on the British navy - they might even have midshipmen, if anyone ever cared to go into that. The lowest ranking ships - the Buccaneers - are crewed by conscripted prisoners, however, and probably only have a few nobles on board, if at all.

And it's not as if peasants can't be educated or trained, otherwise there wouldn't be any merchants or Men-at-Arms or architects or scholars.
>>
>>53721994
I like to imagine that Bret naval bases have a relative bubble of normality around the docks where there is a functioning middle class and sailors can be catered to, but as soon as you're beyond it shit goes full ye olde medievale times with stupid peasants and noble questing knights and damsels.

>>
>>53725246
The translation I'm reading didn't tell a thing about WS throw before the parry (but it does in the dodge description) but it does have sense, thanks!

So parries and dodges work like: Enemy WS throw > Parry/Dodge throw > Enemy Damage throw

That seems to be the correct sequence of melee combat. And the fact that you only have 1 dodge attempt and 1 Parry attempt per round, is nice so that combat does not necessarily turn into a large dice-rolling fest, but keeps it relatively fast paced. This also means that being ganged up on is hell for melee fighters.

I find it's easier to just blank out the caricature-level retarded depictions of the peasants in the later stuff. I mean, they're obviously simple folk, but a society can't really function if the bulk of it is functionally brain dead.

They don't need cannons in their armies because their knights are so potent. So they just pile them onto their fleets instead. Peasant sailors don't have to worry about vows of chivalry and losing the blessing of the lady.

Shame we never got to see a more modern take on their navy, though. Pegasus knights acting like fantasy carrier jets would be the coolest shit

Can someone help me work out a cool slaanesh themed puzzle?

I'm running a Chaos campaign, and I intend the players to complete 4 challenges to reach the artifact they were sent to recover, what I've got so far is:

>Khorne, Fight a buffed up armoured Bloodletter (Simple enough).
>Nurgle, Each player must finish a goblet of pestilent water, any wastage from vomit or spilling causes the water to evaporate into mist that slowly chokes the room (and them in it)
>Tzeentch, The players must educate the Daemon giving the challenge by telling it a a new fact about themselves the daemon wouldn't know by watching every moment of their lives (So emotional, deep down stuff), each answer they already know results in damage.
>Slaanesh, Enchanted perfumed mists showing their greatest desires.???
>>
>>53728668
Silly
>fuck a daemonette and avoid the reach around
>Insert a massive wang into the correct orifice but choose wisely

Serious
>Craft a weapon, sing a song, recite a saga, but do it perfectly
>Walk through a room filled with the most beguiling sights and sounds and smells imaginable, but stick to the right path or you will die so lots of willpower tests - or to quote Gandalf "the air smells less foul down here, lets go this way" a labyrinth where you don't follow the pleasant smells and sounds because doing so kills you.

Nice ideas.

This is the area they would be doing it in, and I like the labyrinth idea but in a smaller room that can only be done psychologically.

The other challenges are about embodying the tenets of the gods, so I don't think avoiding nice scents and such would fit, that's really the core of my problem, making a challenge/puzzle that revolves around embracing Slaaneshism while being mechanically distinct from the "Make a series of tests to survive" Nurgle, "Kill shit" Khorne, or "Mind Problem" Tzeentch.

So if the character is Bloodthirsty, he must attack one of the others, if he is greedy, he must rob from them, too loyal? Maim themselves in the name of those they serve.
>>
>>53722482
It doesn't hurt that on some level you're right - in short stories I've read and in the Knights of the Grail, Bordelaux and L'Anguille are portrayed as being relatively modern cities, more in control of high-ranking peasants and merchants than the disinterested nobility. L'Anguille even has cannons on its walls, and one of the prominent guild members in Bordelaux had very well trained and armed bodyguards that could put a knight to shame.

The Bretonnian fleet hasn't been updated since 1994 so it's safe to assume this stuff probably isn't correct anymore.

The Bretonnias fleet is probably made up of galleys with archer castles, fire projectors and some kind of barge to launch Pegasus from.

To make them plausible I would pump their technology a few centuries ahead and make them half galleys with sails, that with magic and Pegasus should make them a match for the other navies of the Old World.

Steampunk rats that are literally everywhere and randomly depopulate chunks of the world with plagues and have literal weeaboo ninja that assassinate named characters and seek to conquer the surface and easily could do so if they cared hard enough kind of take away every achievement every other race does.

You know how Chaos is fated to win? Skaven are that times a million. They number in the billions, have burrowed beneath every city, have technology leaps and bounds beyond everyone else, and any victory over them is entirely pointless because they have a secret city beyond everyone's reach. And the way they talk is annoying.
>>
>>53740112
I think he's refering to the idea that by the fluff everything that happened in EndTimes was the skavens fault.
>>
>>53740357
What else do you expect from a sapient race that literally breeds like rats who live in a biome where they are damn near the only occupying race in a setting where the only thing keeping anyone i n check is the constant warfare.
>>
>>53740357
It's an awkward point where it's obvious that GW wanted races like the Skaven and Chaos to provide a constant, everpresent danger threatening to overwhelm everyone, but for so much of the time nothing could really be done with them.

And to be fair, you can't just have distant threats like the Tomb Kings or Dark Elves that probably won't attack most areas of the setting, and Orcs and Beastmen can't provide the same overwhelming threat if they're supposed to be lurking everywhere, only rarely getting up to military campaign strength.

>skaven fated to win

We lose everything in our own codex.

Skaven are exactly what caos should have been: an everpresent, threatening opponent, which can't win by the same intrinsic qualities that make it a threat.

Skaven will always turn on themselves at the worst possible moment, will always overlook a crucial detail, their doomsday device will always malfunction at the lst possible moment.

That's what they are,narratively-speaking. They're deadly, cunning and wonderfully incompetent. They only get out-of-screen victories, and any damage they deal to the actual setting is quickly repaired back to the status quo.

The only 2 notable feat they did killing an emperor and nagash) were both far removed from the setting, and one of them actually just had them in the role of enablers

second round was 1300 empire vs 650 chaos+wood elves.
I got the rng stick again, but this time steam tank blew up turn 3 despite being unwounded and only generating 4 steam points.

Holy shit, is there any fuck up in Warhammer fantasy as big as Belegar Ironhammer? Every book I find him in he's either being a dick to his clan and family or kiking the shit out of the rest of the clans. I'm glad I got lucky in confederating the Red Fangs and actually getting him as one of my generals, but it's a little sad that a somewhat well-known Orc is getting treated as fodder, where the Imperials and the Vampire Counts get vague rebels to fight off. And it's somewhat insulting to take Black Crag from him - it would be like having the Empire campaign begin with Karl Franz having to wrest Middenheim from Boris Todbringer.

I'm running a fantasy RP and beastmen are going to be one of the primary antagonists. I've read up on them, but my only "voiced" experience of them is from the total war game.

Do important/powerful beastmen speak properly or is it the same mangled gibberish? I'm not sure how I can work them in properly if they cannot.
>>
>>53771006
You need to go get ahold of Old World Bestiary, which has viewpoints of and even from all the (sapient) monsters of the world, including beastmen.

To answer your question, yes, beastmen can talk. Usually they're quite stupid and would maybe know a phrase or two in Reikspiel at most (more likely, nothing but the dark tongue), but some are intelligent. Bray Shamans are always clever, and even Gors can be fearsome intelligences - Khazrak One-Eye is one example, but turnskin Gors (humans that became beastmen spontaneously) tend to be more intelligent.

As an aside, minotaurs are sometimes lucid and eloquent too, when the blood rage isn't on them, but they live for killing, raping, and eating.

8th edition was pretty much a sack of dicks. Slight randomization in the charge distances (1d3) would have solved quarter inch fuckery, not the huge swings we got. And making huge blocks of infantry and/or the magic to remove them the meta screwed over any army like Bretonnia or an Empire/Elf Knight list.

One of the few good things AoS did was make people willing to play other editions besides 8th.

I generally find it an annoying...trope, for lack of a better word, when a main character regularly shifts through relationships, but with Felix it's usually handled fairly well. It doesn't interrupt the flow of the stories, and in fact usually tends to compliment them in some way. His first relationship was loving but tragic, and he actually took time later to reflect on how his memory of her dulled, which helped highlight the passage of time and his growth as a character. His second relationship was more casual, but also ended somewhat bitterly, though in a much more healthy fashion for Felix - he had nothing to feel dead inside over after. And it also showed him as having a bit of a jealousy problem. Then there was the brief time with the Kislevite lady, which was used to drive home how dangerous it was to go into the Chaos Wastes, and also was interesting for highlighting the Kislevite mindset - being blunt about feelings, making the most of what little time you have.

I haven't actually read more than the first three books, so I don't really know what comes next. But it wasn't just that Felix was James Bond and he seduced every woman he had to work with or rescue. He had a variety of relationships, and I'd say the women stood out as believable, or at least their own characters. Still can't say why they stood out to him, aside from that he was described as somewhat handsome.

I feel Giantslayer dropped the ball. Nathan Long's stuff is pretty good too, IMHO. I'm disappointed with how they capped off the series, personally. Would have preferred something along the line of:

>"We go off to face our most dangerous foe. We may never return."

And then an addendum from his brother saying that there was no more written and that Felix and Gotrek have been missing ever since.

Is it possible for non humans to become vampires in the Warhamer Fantasy world?
>>
>>53779083
Yes

But why would they?
>>
>>53779083
Elves are already long-lived and vampirism would diminish their magical potential. Dwarfs are magic-resistant and already long-lived. Greenskins don't do traditional magic, let alone necromancy.
Only humans benefit from necromancy.
>>
>>53779275
Yeah but that is Necromancy. the question is if you could give an Ork or skaven or whatever the vampirekiss.

Technically, no. The vampirism curse can't affect non-humans in most of the up-to-date lore. In the older stuff you get reference to a Dwarf vampire occasionally, but it was later retconned as literally just being a short guy.

Personally I'd say leave it up to your GM. I found all this out doing research for what a Vampire Skaven might be like.

Additionally, Vampires do not have souls in the setting.

So, still working on my vampire coast army, but I do have some questions lore wise; not that it would really impact the army Im building, but more out of curiosity:

Can Lizardmen be resurected by Necromancy? What about their Dinosaurs, or native inhabitants of lustria?

We know Luthor Harkon has a direct underling, but does he have more vampire thralls? And where does he get the necessary powder and ammunition for his zombies? Also, just how much of a presence does he have in the Vampire Coast?

How feverant will the Colleges of Magic chase after black Magisters? Like, to the ends of the earth? And what kind of pull can they get?

As for the Amazons of Lustria, do you think they could be subverted into serving a necromancer?

No, he has "Ship Wights" - Undead sea captains that sail around the world to raid and sink more ships and bring them back the crews to fuel the need for more zombie sailors.
>>
>>53785257
>Can Lizardmen be resurected by Necromancy? What about their Dinosaurs, or native inhabitants of lustria?
Yes. In fact, there's nothing we onow of that can't. Even theoretically Daemons, which somehow sometimes leave corpses that other races take trophies from or Ogres eat instead of disappearing back into the Warp, possibly could be.

Old Skeleton Warrior kits actually came with extra heads to represent Beastmen and Lizardmen.
>How feverant will the Colleges of Magic chase after black Magisters? Like, to the ends of the earth? And what kind of pull can they get?
Since we don't have direct lore on that, we can only guess but I'd assume it depends on what they do. Gorstmann would be pursued because of all the damage he's done. Who they can draw in depends on the importance, an Elector Count informed a mad wizard is loose would likely send his army after them. Nobody really wants to involve the Inquisition but they'd be happy to go after anyone they have an excuse to.

>As for the Amazons of Lustria, do you think they could be subverted into serving a necromancer?
All we know of them is they were part of the non-Chaos Norscans who colonized Lustria and decided to worship the Slann, who use them as minions and equip them with Old One tech. Its unlikely they'd side with anyone else, but its undefined so you can do what you want.

Vampires are great at creating agents in enemy ranks, but they'd be discovered by their masters or each other most likely pretty quickly.

That being said some Norscans who aren't Chaos stuck around, the kind that serve the Dwarf Sven.
>>
>>53785356
>8e
They'e very good. Not mandatory, but you likely want one.
>9e
No idea. Just based on how they are approaching balance I doubt anything in the game is auto-include, and if there is then they will see it as a problem and work to improve internalarmy balance later.
>>
>>53785257
>How feverant will the Colleges of Magic chase after black Magisters? Like, to the ends of the earth? And what kind of pull can they get?
Check out Realms of Sorcery. There's a good section in the Imperial Colleges of Magic chapter. There's also a career in Night's Dark Masters for the Magister Vigilant - Imperial Mages who specialise in hunting down renegade wizards and sorcerers.

How knee-jerky are the Witch Hunters in the Empire? How much does it take to get you imprisoned/tortured/burned?

Also... do Skaven speak fucking reikspiel?
>>
>>53789304
Intelligent Skaven speak whatever, they're clever fucks who rely heavily on spying. The stupid ones probably barely speak their own language, and short Skaven lifespan means most die before learning much of anything.

Witch Hunter zealotry depends on the era and leadership. In general, less crazy than 40k Inquisition since Fantasy Inquisitors are very effective.
>>
>>53789304
>How knee-jerky are the Witch Hunters in the Empire?
Depends on the individual. And what they can get away with. Most Witch Hunters are sponsored by a noble and work on that noble's lands.

>Also... do Skaven speak fucking reikspiel?
They speak Queekish amongst themselves.

Does anyone have any information on what the typical high elven village and what it's typical composition is like? The party is going to be lead to one of those hidden villages in empire forests but I realised I actually only know little about their general society.

Google is no help and I've not brought a codex in 10 years.
>>
>>53789882
When I say composition I mean the types of professions the typical village might have, like how an empire town would have a blacksmith or priest for example.

There isn't much that's mandatory in an Empire army except maybe one large block of troops (and even that's debatable). In 8th they were good, in 9th they're probably good but toned down or less random. Most people have one because it was an iconic unit.

High or Wood?

High Elves only have civilian cities on Ulthuan. The rest is just military outposts or trade families in Empire cities.
>>
>>53789882

I can't think of anything off the top of my head, some of the Time of Legend novels may cover it but to be honest I can only imagine they would be mundane, they'll have all of the things you would find in a human or dwarf village but it may have a magical twist now and then. Have a look at Lord of the Rings and maybe that will give you some inspiration.
>>

>Nagash
>most evil man in the Warhammer universe
>possibly the most badass
I'll always like him, and I can't help it.

Because in a setting where death is permanent and horrible because daemons and chaos gods can devour your soul with ease, he flipped them all the finger and decided to create his own eternal realm.. and only just barely failed (likely because there were no hookers and blackjack).

hey so what does everyone think of unit fillers?

I was playing with a 40mx40m resin base trying to make some cool thematic piece which started off as a beastman head with a spear through it with an empire guy pointing forward but I realised all my spears weren't nearly long enough to stab into the ground and not hit the guy in the back of the neck.

SOO, I ended up with a sort of battlefield graveyard, old empire helmet, a greatsword wedged upwards into a forest log with a battered helmet and shattered shield resting alongside it.

and the other is pic related.
it's a long road ahead for him but the plan is to greenstuff ropes/cords holding the shields and hat in place, possibly a collar as well.
