What's a neat little detail you love about some models?

I love that most unhelmeted GK heads have arming caps and/or old man faces. They're grizzled veterans and Knights/Paladins in Space, and I love that.

So, where the hell did GW find the old, old, old Plastic Terminator mold from 2nd Edition, and what possessed them to rerelease them in a new set instead of the Black Reach buddies?

Seriously, I was down with buying the Build+Paint Heavy set for the cheap dread and Termis, until I saw they were the super outdated models.

So, with templates and blasts being done away with, would it be better now to have scions with flamers? I figure hot-shot volley guns or plasmas would be better all, but from a budget standpoint, are flamers a better idea?

There is a reason I replaced those munchkins with descent sized terminators.

You think they actually throw molds away? If they havent broken they probably have them all stashed in a warehouse, which is also why they can reprint old minis.

I thought it was Assault on Black Reach termies, it kind of sucks that it isnt.

Please help me pick a chapter for my primaris marines. I normally paint crimson fists so I want to do something different, but something that has lots of heraldry and such on the knees and shoulders and new armor bits like the new smurfs, but not them, nor SW or BA, as I've done them already as well. I dig the foot stabilizers on the devastator's armor, and especially that the imperial fists devastator veteran in the deathwatch overkill box has them too to represent his previous role. On that subject, I love all of the marines in the overkill box for their little bits of character, from the blood raven's VIDYA emblem to the salamander's drakescale and augmented breather helmet.

The corvus hammers the ravenwing black knights use is a nice throwback to their origin as hammerpick and archaeotech pistol wielding elite horseback hunstmen.

Love the little torture tools the interrogator chaplain carries on his belt and conversely, the new model for cypher has some great stuff like his cobbled together MK2 plate that uses leather buckles and has a visible steam-gauge looking device on the back.

I love the slung lasguns in the tempestus kit. Even if the sergeant can't take one, he looks pretty tacticool with a slung one and his chest rigged full of pouches and grenades.

The alternate head option for carnifexes with the seared off face revealing some of its skull has always been super cool to me.

I dig the way all the thousand sons have corrupted versions of 30k armor patterns.

I love the new edition so far. I ordered Index 1 Imperium, Index 2 Xenos, and the rules. But the only things i'm really upset about is how they are taking away armor values on vehicles and that templates were removed. The craziest thing to me is the templates. Other than that is seems great.

I don't why it should. This exact thing happened with the Thunder Warriors. Powerful, immense legions of supersoldiers marching to war on the orders of the Big E, all for his plans for unifying humanity. What happened to them? Oh yeah, they were discarded literally as soon as their purpose ended.

That'd be interesting to see happen. Unplug the texting ability on big E. Leave him alive, then rule how he wants.

the few I've seen against hoard the opponent didn't do anything to counter the hoard well.

Being able to deal with hoards will be a consideration for list building, and the solution isn't what it was before.

With orcs the buffing bosses are often left behind, drop in a force there and kill the boss. If they try to turn the hoard around they get nailed. Of if their daisy chaining, drop in and charge the end of the chain.

Or snipers to kill of the commander. against ranged hoards bring harrassing chargers forcing them to fall back. Against melee hoards bring screening units.

Learn how to focus out the different types of hoards. Orcs wittle down and isolate, then let leadership take them. Nids, kill the big one. Guard, take out the squishy leaders.

Hey I'm fairly new to the hobby and want to start a emperor's children army. I plan on building up slowly with an HQ and two noise marine units then grabbing an elite and heavy support which seems to be a good way to start but I have one question.

Would a regular chaos lord, daemon prince or Lucius be a better HQ? My friends plan on playing 50 point games and I really like the rules for Lucius but he seems really slow for such a melee focused character.
>>
I have a small pile of Marines that I originally set aside for 30k, but no longer plan to. Can't decide on a chapter, don't like any of the First Founding. I would do Chaos, but I wouldn't be able to use two of the squads, and they'd look a little weird with a legit CSM force.

Any recommendations?

I just realized you can't fire pistols after advancing. Only assault weapons can do that.

So you can fire a flamer after advancing, but not a hand flamer.
Or a shotgun, but not a bolt pistol.
Or a meltagun, but not an inferno pistol.

I don't know the context. I haven't made the time to read it.

Bobby thinks Cawl is going to be a problem though.

Cawl has a hologram of himself on Guilliman's ship that speaks for him while he's away. It insists it's not an A.I. but just programmed to think the way Cawl does.

Cawl also wants to use geneseed from the traitor legions on Primaris and asked Guilliman to appoint him Fabricator General of Mars which most tech-priests wouldn't be thrilled about.

>>
>>53705396
Yup. I was trying to find a way to allow seraphim to use their flamers/inferno pistols without taking a round of fire/fighting/both first. Deep striking leaves them too far to use them (9") and they can't be put into rhinos/immolators. So that leaves walking/jet packing, but their weapons being pistols makes advancing not an option. Sure, they have a 12" move, but inferno pistols and hand flamers only have a 6" range and the melta range on inferno pistols is 3".

Just to add a bit more salt to that: while hand flamers would do 2d6 autohitting wounds on overwatch, you can just charge from 6.1" to completely avoid them.

And only mildly related but I think it's funny flamers/heavy flamers have 8" range, which is just enough to be useless against deep striking jet pack units assaulting from the closest they can.
>>
>>53705454

you can shoot the smaller flamer while in combat.
>>
>>53705510

Yea. Seraphim seem better without deep striking and just flying around instead, especially since they basically move 24" thanks to faith. Deploy them close to the line and do your dirty work I guess. I don't know that they're actually that good now since people will just disengage off you and shoot them down. They would be so much better if AoF were using in their respective phases instead.

GW needs to make better things for their special tools to make them more marketable and stuff.
Laser pointers that look like some of the different guns from different factions, like a green laser pointer gauss flayer or a red laser lasgun. Combat markers shaped like different close combat weapons that are slightly upscaled. Dice holders shaped like some vehicles and stuff would be nice too. Tape measure that looks like a small tyranid vessel with the tape itself being a long tendril. So many possibilities that they could make for tools and merch.

>people act surprised when they just keep doing the same thing and it doesn't work in an edition that nobody has played enough to fully grasp the nuances of yet.

Wow, I'm so surprised.

Give it time, it'll balance out after people have played against hordes a couple of times and figured out how to deal with them. Dealing with hordes is very different now that blasts are gone and most weapons are getting less hits on them. Fighting a horde army will be a lesson in target priority unlike just about anything else the average 40k player has seen.

On the other hand, many twinlinked weapons just doubled their shots, so expect to see things like the Taurox's mini punisher cannon, twin linked assault cannons, multiple flamers, and other such weapons showing up more.

Each faction has different buffs. A Space Marine Captain buff Marines of his chapter but nothing else. If you take different faction, your synergies might not work, but so long as you take that to heart, you can make some pretty terrifying mixed armies. For example, take the Starter set for Primaris Marines with a strong buff network, then add a unit of Custodes as a melee sledgehammer and add some Scions and Grey Knight Interceptors to pop up behind the enemy. There, combined four factions in a way that works.

Except that actual, viable strategies don't always translate to 40k. As an anon pointed out above, the best way to screw over a Conscript blob is to charge them with something, anything. This forces them to fall back so they can use their guns, which means you can charge them again and again. And while his Conscripts are busy doing nothing, you deep-strike something next to his Commisar and kill him, at which point the Conscripts crumble. That has nothing to do with military tactics and everything to do with 40k

except guard have an order called "get back in the fight" that allows them to immediately fire after falling back out of combat, that strategy would not work against conscripts at all.

On top of that, those conscripts are so insanely cheap that odds are by just eating a charge the conscripts have paid for themselves. Now that IG can immediately break combat at will, your assault unit will be left in the open and he can unload at point blank range with the rest of his army.

Why would Guilliman be against using traitor genestock?

He personally KNEW people from traitor legions that stayed loyal. Surely Guilliman must realize more than anyone that loyalty isn't tied to geneseed.

maybe recreating a new legion of the traitor legion would have risks of them asking too many questions about their primarchs, or maybe trying to find them just to find out why they fell, or maybe their primarchs would have some sway over them?

for those who have read the leaks or blown someone at GW; do you need to pay points for termagants spawned by a tervigon? Initial rules leaks hinted that you would, and Matt at miniwargaming says you do. But I can't find any mention of it in the tervigons rules, it doesn't mention them being summoned, or treated as reinforcements. Now I've only got the xenos index I haven't read the rulebook itself so maybe I've missed something there.

Something amusing with sisters of battle is since their number of acts of faith for the army does not scale from army size if you just take one unit of sisters they get an additional move or shoot or fight or model every turn 83% of the time.

So picking one of whatever SoB infantry unit you want and running them in any imperium army seems like a pretty okay idea to me. Seraphim can move 24" and fire 4d6 autohit s3 flamers (or fire 8d6 hits instead if in melee already), or retributors can double fire multi-meltas/heavy bolters/heavy flamers, or crusaders/repentia can get a free fight phase every turn they start in melee, etc.

Celestine also comes with her own act of faith every turn so you could take one infantry plus her and both would still get a personal AoF, with no need to roll for Celestine's. She can fly 24", or fire her heavy flamer twice, or get a free fight phase with 6 attacks of a strength 7 ap-3 2 damage sword, or heal d3 wounds or bring back two bodyguards instead of one to make firing at her even more pointless.

Noob question here.

If a weapon is Heavy6, does it mean that for each shot fired it hits six times or do I have to roll six dice? then, would the unit targeted would roll for wound saves (or invlunerable?) on each hit that made it through the dice or do you directly roll six times and then apply the damage and then roll saves for each wound? All this would be regardless the attack stats of the unit which is only for melee right (so if a unit has attack 3 it doesn't shoot three times)?

For example I am looking at the Exocrine which has Bioplasma which is 36" (I assume that is a good range) Heavy6 S7 AP-3 D2. If the model does not move I can add 1 to hit (which I guess would be the same as adding 1 to the BS so I hit at 3+) and shoot the weapons twice so in one shooting I can dish out 12 hits which inflict 2 wounds. If the unit is just one vehicle, does it mean that all hits go to the vehicle and do 2 wounds for each successful hit? Is this then good for killing units such as primaris or terminators? would it be a waste to shoot at hordes with it? Am I actually completely misreading the whole thing and it just doesn't work like that?
>>
>>53707080
Six shots, to hits, to wound and saves.
>>
>>53707056
Oh are there no options in the kit? I'm probably going to convert mine then. Planning on running a flamer, flamer, combi flamer squad and a blight launcher, blight launcher, combi plasma squad.
>>
If you used Fix Bayonets and Harler was in aura range, would units get +1 to melee even if its the Shooting phase?
>>
>>53707051
They're slow, not that resilient (T3 and 7+, FNP isn't enough to save them), can't shoot and don't hit hard. Since the Plague Marines are apparently going in Rhinos, they won't be useful as screening either.
So yes, I have a hard time figuring what they'll do. If you something to sit on an objective your side of the map, at least remove one of these and replace them with some long range weaponery to have more impact in the game.

They stay in front of Typhus as a screen while Typhus buffs their strength and toughness.

Lord of Contagion joins one of the Plague Marine units in a Rhino and they drive to whatever unit needs dealing with by them.

Noxious Blightbringer chills with Typhus behind the screen of Poxwalkers and lets them advance further then helps Typhus out in any fight he may be in.

The second unit of Plague Marines are accompanied by the Plaguecaster to get up close and start casting spells and throwing out mortal wounds.

Foetid Bloat-drone flies around spraying back line units/hordes with 2d6 flamer shots.

The Power Scourge Helbrute will go after elite units with its seven attacks while pelting vehicles/characters/monsters with its Twin Lascannon. The other Helbrute will go after whatever threat needs dealing with since he has an answer to almost every type of unit with either 5 strength 12 -3 3D fist attacks or 8 strength 8 -2 2D scourge attacks all the while throwing flames where need be.

Chaos Predator will be sitting in the back taking out whatever high wound models need to disappear.
>>
>>53707127
Yes, though Damage specificly is rolled after saves.
Though Disgutingly Resillient and similar damage negation effect then come after that again.
>>
>>53707127
In the case of a heavy6 weapon, you declare the attack and roll 6 dice, then take any hits and roll them for wounds, your opponent then makes that many saves, he then takes damage
>>
>>53706874
If it's a resin model, have you cleaned it with soapy water beforehand?

>>53707127
You roll a dice for each shot.
That's to hit
Then you roll a dice for each hit.
That's to wound/damage
Then the other player rolls a dice for each wound/damage.
That's the save.
>>
>>53704541
According to that old piece of lore that was IIRC in Realms of Chaos books, while battling Horus Emperor was losing because he still loved his Primarch son. He then cast away all of his love, literally part of his soul, to be able to destroy Horus with all his might.

Emperor changed during that battle and was no longer the same person. This is also talked about in Inquisitor rulebook at the beginning. Some anonymous high authority persons discuss about whetever or not they should bring Emperor back or not. One of their fears was that Emperor has changes and man they woukd bring back wouls not be the same person.

So of course Guilliman saw non loving Emperor, for Emps is no longer the same he was.
>>
What is better points-cost wise for GK, a dreadnought or a dreadknight? Dreadknight of course is more powerfull, but it's not by a large amount when you consider it's cost versus a dreadnought. One thing to keep in mind is that dreadknight has a damage chart, while a dreadnought doesn't meaning it can carry on fucking shit up for a while.

Take one crusader squad
Add one Helbrecht for that sweet 1+ S 6" bubble
Add one Librarian with another random color and give him might of heroes for +1S, 1T and 1A
Enjoy bashing shit with 3 attacks on S6
Or for extra spice, take one Vanguard Squad with mauls and bash the shite out of vehicles with that sweet sweet S8 3A fun (Sarge get extra fun and makes 4A).

Not them but I kind of like how, after playing a few power-point games, I've realized taking the most expensive option isn't always the best. I decide if I want flamers or meltas based on the holes in my army that need filled or what I think my opponent will bring instead of what I can afford. A multi-melta might be worth almost five times what a heavy flamer does, but sometimes I need heavy flamers.

Though when the factions I play are up on the list builder my group might go back to points anyway, since there's some really wonky stuff with power. 150pts of conscripts is 6 power, while a leman russ with executioner plasma cannon+lascannon+2 plasma cannons+storm bolter+HK missile is either 12 power or 198 points.

How much is a power point supposed to be worth in points anyway?
>>
>>53707479
1 power level is roughly ~20 points

pic related

More seriously, interesting combo indeed, but it works for a single squad, and while it can be fun smashing vehicles on melee, I'm not sure adding the Librarian is reamly needed. I'll run some tests.

It tends to assume you take the most expensive wargear, which would be 232 for a LRD.

It's Death Guard bikers all over again.
>>
>>53707532
It's thematic. Templars abhor the witch. What I find funny is that GW went 'yeah, they don't hate them that much anymore, it's more a distrust, ya know', and BT players went 'NO FUCK YOU WE STILL HATE THEM EVEN IF WE DON'T HAVE RULES FOR THAT'

>>53707542
I do agree, Librarians are filthy things and Big E was right to ban them.
But I just thought it was kinda funny with a bunch of space marines with maces beat up a land raider in melee, and it is cheese, smelly cheese.
Also it was a point that there is (besides bubble auras not working) no reason to not mix and match with your SM army anymore.
>>
>>53707541
Ah, I'm used to executioners being the most expensive for some reason. Maybe due to DKoK.

I also forgot to put the lascannon in the cost somehow.
>>
>>53707560
>>53707559
To be honest I really wanted to start up BT in 7th, but the fact that they couldn't take a Librarian really put a stop to the notion. It might piss off some purists but I'm pretty happy I've been given the tools to run the army I want this edition. I mean come on, badass medieval knights in space with no wizards to back them up? I don't think so

Ravener.

I mean I have no problems with a massive, expensive model being the Orks' shit unit. Orkanauts look better anyway.
>>
>Wow awesome, Scouts with camo cloaks get 2+ armor save in cover! And they're only 5 points more expensive than marines! That's such a good deal.

Except Tacs also get 2+ in cover, so scouts are either more expensive marines in cover or shittier marines out of cover. So why would I want to run scouts unless I'm starving for 10 points or want sniper rifles?
>>

What's an optimal kit for Vanguard Veterans, assuming they're rolling with a reroll aura like from Shrike? I'm having a lot of trouble rounding them out.
>>
>>53707730
As always it depends on what you intend to kill with them, but lightning caws will grant you (with Shrike) Reroll on hits and wounds as well as another attack.
>>
>>53707279
It could actually work pretty well . I was trying to see if there was some sort of ranged artillery option but I guess that I'd have to play IG for that sort of flexibility in units.
I have seen that both ranged options (devourer or deathspitter) are assault 3, how would you get 5 shots out of them? Also at T4 i wonder if they wouldn't be overrrun next turn if the blob is big enough. If you deepstrike them out of synapse, LD5 could also be a problem.

Alternatively a unit of 3 pyrovores look like a decent meat shield if you manage to position them (M is 5") and their flamethrowers have 10" range, helpful for overwatch
>>
>>53707717
That's why I'll be fielding 2 squads of 10 that split up into 4 combat squads.

>And probably still roll a one for every unit anyway
>>
>>53707717
Yeah but the odds for rolling a 6 is exactly the same, and D6 average is 3.5-4 so it is kinda nice.

I really don't know what to push them against. Is it smarter to have a specialized vanguard with heavy support dealing with what the vanguard lacks, or to have both lines able to deal with multiple options?

Personally I'm trying to stockpile melta bits for full combi melta Deatwatch units.

Ok been IG since forever, imho here's what we kinda need-ish.

Tanks

>Leman Russ update, maybe SLIGHT (maintain Mark IV aesthetic) redesign (consolidate all turrets and sponsons into one kit - battle cannon, exteminator, demolisher, punisher, executioner - the vanq can be a replace-barrel for the battle cannon; sponsons - meltas, flamers, bolters, plasma).

>Chimera - slight redesign/update. Heavy flamer/autocannon (i know not an option but they should bring it back to the codex). Maybe have it be a dual kit w a Salamander or the Hellhound - types.

>Hellhounds - slight redesign or merge with the chim kit. But it's generally fine.

>Basilisk - I'm still ok with it.

>Manticore/Deathstrike/Wyvern - still cool. Bring Griffon back and not as FW.

>Taurox - too new to be redesigned

>Valk/Vendetta - add the Vulture option
>>
>>53708286

I'd say keep the Leman Russ and move on to a new tank. Something about Cawl finding the chassis for the Vanquisher. IIRC the fluff for the Vanquisher was a partial STC for a superior tank to the Leman Russ but the printout only had a turret and cannon.

>Hydra

Forgeworld model was superior. Bring that. Ditch the Wyvern. GW isn't tricking anyone. Removing the barrels at the stubs isn't a new gun.

>Taurox

Give it some fucking wheels. I drove MRAPs and MATVs irl. 4 track pods is dumb and inferior to wheels. Wheels make it look so much better.

Also give us some better accessories.Bring back trackguards, stowage and a better hunter killer missile. Mabe something like the TOW missile pod on humvees.
>>
>>53708359
>TOW missile pod

hmm....auto-hit or re-roll to hit? Something that increases accuracy and maybe have d6 damage?
