>>53678793
For my codex marines I tend to go for Land Speeders or a regular bike squad and while I've considered it for a 30k army between outriders, jetbikes and speeders its a bit of a hurdle for them to overcome the appeal.
>>
>>53678793
I like the idea of them, but especially for me (EC) my Fast Attack slots are pretty much full at all times, and support bikes just don't have the power to merit swapping things out for them.

What do you usually bring as Fast attack?
>>
>>53678935
I'm considering them because I'm running a Chogorian Brotherhood army so outriders and fast attack jetbikes are troops - I'll have enough fast attack slots and need to fill them up to get heavy support slots. I'll take javelins too, but not with multimeltas because they seem best at long range. The attack bikes will get the multimeltas. They're only 3+ to save, but 2W.

It costs a lot of money to make them look like outrider bikes and give them new crew members, so... might need chinaman's help with these guys.
>>
>>53679036
>What do you usually bring as Fast attack?
Sky Hunter jetbikes are great for anti-infantry shooting. Outriders kitted for assault are okay, but they only really shine if multi-bombing is allowed. Javelins and normal Land Speeders are great because they're stupidly cheap.

I don't know why Tarantulas exist...
>>
>>53679036
Storm Eagle, Lightning Primaris, and a squad of Outriders. I'm also trying to get the bits to make a nice squad of Landspeeders, or find a chinese Javelin or three
>>
>>53679061

You turboboost them :^)
>>
>>53679061
As far as the army composition goes it looks like a golden opportunity, but model wise you don't need to be as exacting as you seem to be thinking even if you do take steps to make it era-appropriate (i.e. helmet and torso swaps).

I'm trying to get a lot of Mk II in this army. If people aren't picky though, I'll mix in some occasional Mk III plastic because it's cheaper, and keep the Mk IV arms since there's only one source of Mk II biker arms (40k DA Command set) and they might all be holding swords rather than handlebars. I like Kromlech's Mk II-ish biker legs.

I just want 30k to go 8th now.

Alan Bligh was planning on moving HH to 8th ed. as quickly as possible. Then he died. (I assume you've heard.)

I don't know when he was diagnosed, but if it was months ago then it would've been a significant disruption to the relatively small 30k team. It might even explain why Inferno was delayed and still a little sloppy. One of the UK-based 30k podcasts got the impression from Tony Cottrell that the 7th ed. rulebook would be close to a direct copy, far from the 7.5 book we're all hoping for - it's a stopgap measure, a desperate act to buy time.

Be patient.

So how out-of-scale are the chads versus the HH boxed sets?

I wouldn't ever really start a 40k Marine army but I'd do a 30k if it wasn't, you know, weedy.

The real problem is that 40k non-chad marines look so damned stupid next to Cadians (let's leave the problematic nature of the Cadian sculpts to the side since they are the primary-existing example of non-augmented humans on the Warhammer field-of-play).

Meduson has a scene where an Iron Father actually handles the spiritual guidance side of his job with his captain, which I found pretty cool given that not that many people seem to remember that the role of Iron Father is meant to combine the roles of chaplain and techmarine as opposed to just being a super-techmarine.

GW HH are exactly the same proportions as normie 40k Marines. FW are ever so slightly taller, and a bit slimmer.

>>
>>53680874
The Chadmarines.
'Normal' marines ie GW plastics and FW resin look squat and weird when placed next to them. The plastics come off the worst as FW tend to have ever so slightly better proportions. But then still look dumb.

New Plaguemarines are taller than normal marines and quite bulky. They are shorter than Chads and honestly look okay.
I haven't seen the newish TS sets next to the Chads or Plagues yet, but they are slightly taller and better proportioned than normal marines to begin with. They will probably look not so bad.

But your traditional plastics look dumpy and dumb. I don't think mixed forces will look good at all.
Which is after all the point. Better replace all your toys kids, gib monies pls.
>>
>>53680874
MkIII marines are still the best looking models IMO. Theres enough comparison photos out if yuo want to see for yourself.

Whats interesting is how large the latest Rubric marines are. I dont remember their being much fuss about that yet they're quite a bit larger then their old models. Funny how much more people care when its turned into a meme.
>>
>>53680948
>FW tend to have ever so slightly better proportions
FW marines also have completely fucked proportions just in the opposite way. They're all 90 pound twiglets.

>>

People commented on the Rubrics being taller than normal marines, but it was largely accepted as Rubrics tend to have straight leg sculpts, plus their crests. Plus, the sorcerers are all either floating or standing on something that raises them.

In hindsight we can see now that this was some cleverish future-proofing.

Okay, there's at least one neat thing about the Repulsor in the Dark Millennium novel - you get the sense that its grav technology isn't as clean and elegant as Eldar or M31 Custodes grav tanks. Or Land Speeders. Those skim, or flit, or gently glide on a cloud of gravitons. The Repulsor transfers its weight pretty directly to whatever's below, crushing everything in its path. It's still advanced, but it's a little crude. That makes me feel better - M31 is still resin master race.

As long as the Repulsor is actually LR sized I'll be picking one up for conversion work. I'm planning on using a pair of spare Razorback TL-Lascannons for the side sponsons to use the hull as a Proteus (I'm gonna see if I can remove the hull-mounted gun, or put a TL-Heavy Bolter in there). So at the end of the day I'll have the turret as a spare regardless. If it fits, I've got an option for Preds. If it doesn't, I'm sure I can find somewhere else to stick it.

In the novel, the first batch aren't really Heresy vets. Cawl was experimenting with geneseed during the Heresy or at least within 100 years of it, so the first primaris marines were children back then. They fell into his hands somehow, and for unstated reasons he put them in stasis for 10,000 years until he finally perfected the process. Guilliman keeps one around because he remembers the Imperium as it was in M31 (from his life before turning 13 and getting inducted/abducted). Okay, also because Guilliman thinks he'll make a good Ultramarine soldier/statesman.

Different anon here. To be clear, he didn't say that they were the basis of the project, but rather that he could make primaris marines using any of the 20 legions' geneseed. He doesn't want to be limited to the 9 loyalist ones, but Guilliman won't let him try the others.

>I do wonder how the White Scars are called in Chogorian
Brotherhood of the Storm actually explains it all quite well, without making it silly, or anything.

"White Scars" is a reference to their facial scars, which they rub a herbal paste into, causing the scar to appear white. They usually refer to themselves by that name, and the only real flowery title they have is "the urdu of Jaghatai" (ie: His horde/army), which is rarely used.

Their Chapter symbol, the lightning strike on gold, is also the hereditary symbol of the Khans of Chogoris. It holds a double significance as the Talskar tribe, the tribe of Jaghatai, would ritually scar their faces with a lightning bolt shaped scar under one eye when they came to manhood, marking them as one of the tribe.

>I see Jaghatai appreciated the Ferrus style of naming things.
You got it wrong anon: his is actually the result of a lack of care about those things.
Remember he didn't pick the name "Ferrus Manus" for himself: Medusans did after first looking at him; before meeting them he had wandered about in the north pole, bereft of people, living of the land and grappling monsters.
He did not have a use for a name.
Then he meets his legion and the Stormwalkers decide to honour the reunion by taking on their name. The Iron Hands. Some even changed their own names to celebrate their reunion with their newfound homeworld, like Shadrak Meduson, previously named Shadrak Smyth.
Ferrus probably saw all that and went:
>Eh, if that's what you want. I've got better things to do, like terminator armour, than to worry about names.
The only epithet he did care about, the only name that mattered, was the one given to him by his beloved brother. The one that represented the closeness enjoyed by few others. The one that did get to know him...and whose betrayal hurt the most.
If Ferrus called himself anything, he was
The Gorgon.

That was my intention. Of course people have their opinion about primarchs, they have their favourites, detest others and, perhaps worst of all, ignore some. I am of the belief every primarch, both with their virtues but much more with their defects, is valuable as a concept.

>‘Please, sir. They’ll kill us all,’ he said. His voice cracked.
>‘Yes. I expect they will.’ Oquin smiled sadly. ‘A harsh reaction when refusal is given, but far from abnormal in a compliance action. That’s what this is. A compliance for the Warmaster’s new Imperium.’ Oquin deliberately turned his back on Spall. ‘But as I learned when I took part in the slaughter of the Bathranin, Spall, some things are worth more than life. Perhaps worth more than the life of an entire world. ‘Now, I am going to walk out of that door and give them my answer. Feel free to shoot me in the back. I am confident you won’t. Not if you remember even dimly what we were fighting for.’ Oquin strode down the gallery, his bearing proud. Spall made a strangled noise in his throat. He kept his gun trained on the governor the whole way. The weapon wavered, his aim blurred by tears. He couldn’t do it.

>Mayder Oquin disappeared through the doors. Spall was still staring dumbly at his weapon when the din of boltgun fire echoed up the palace halls.

Really, people give too much chaff at the Emperor being like He is. But it's simply that He's not a god, as He has always claimed. He's powerful and knowledgeable, both to an unparalelled degree...but he's not all-knowing nor all-powerful, and he still has human limitations.
His actions were forced by his environment like all living beings are, and he had to take decisions he didn't want to take, but that felt necessary at the time.
Considering his end-game was to become innecessary, it can be assumed he probably never wanted to be a father, but realized he still needed those terrible children. The ones who could save humanity...but also destroy it.
>Emperor...you will destroy the horrors of Old Night...and you will create a new Age of Darkness in it's place...

>>
>>53695501

>>
>>53695412
The retcon won't be that drastic. They'll just get rid of the Emperor holding back because he still loved Horus until a terminator/custodes/soldier got himself disintegrated. That never made much sense.

Or... Sanguinius accepts Horus's offer to switch sides and the Emperor kills him. Or the change doesn't involve Sanguinius at all - he dies as usual, then Horus mortally wounds the Emperor, and Oll Pearson kills Horus with the athame.
>>
>>53695514
Even if that completely unsupported assertion were true he could still be dead. The Eldar deathlady healed Guilliman and un-Rubriced some Thousand Sons so she can probably stuff Sang's soul back in.

How does the Volkite Carronade perform on the tabletop? Seems scary on paper, but I have a feeling it won't hit much when you fire straight through the enemy line, and a Glaive's not THAT fast. It's like the Ordinatus Ulator, but less all-consuming.
>>
>>53696541
it depends on your meta, it'll make blobs and infantry based armies cry (like WE) but its not that great against vehicles for a super heavy. its excellent when you can flank it with Ironhands or whatever, properly supported and firing down the length of the enemy line it will violate any front. firing into a line from head on wont let it make its points back unless someone is walking up terminators.

I use it because the glaive is fucking cool.

It's great against Rhinos (likely to penetrate, so it gets to do a bunch of decent hits against the infantry inside). Against heavier transports its strength might not be high enough, but it does get haywire. A large part of using it right is just forcing things to disperse.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Barrabas Dantioch the Big Guy? I thought not. It’s not a story the Ultramarines would tell you. It’s an Imperius Secundus legend. Barrabas Dantioch was a Warsmith of the Fourth, so bitterfull and so wise he could use the iron to influence the battlefield to create killing fields… He had such a knowledge of the siegecraft that he could even keep the keeps he cared about from falling. The IVth side of the geneseed is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be AUTISM. He became so embittered… the only thing he was afraid of was getting shipped with an IF husbando, which eventually, of course, he was. Unfortunately, he realized overloading the Pharos was the only choice, then its explosion killed him in his keep. IWronic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

I really love this old theory I read a few years back; basically the more Lucius gave into Slaanesh the worse of a duelist he became. He became so arrogant that his skills diminished and he became grossly complacent with how good he already was. In an act of humor that amuses Slaanesh to no end, he's constantly brought back as a pleasant joke that will occasionally get things done. Lucius may think he's perfect, but to a god he's nothing more than a bug who's arrogance is absolutely hysterical.

Do yourself a huge favor and read the first batch of the Horus Heresy novels. Loyalist Sons of Horus, Death Guard, and Emperors Children were the most prolific with World Eaters tossed into the mix.

You have loyalists in every legion, most being murdered/betrayed. There are notable Iron Warriors, Thousand Sons, etc amongst these that survived.

>>53701051
>who is Endryd Haar

>>
>>53701063
Ahriman is an arrogant little weirdo with more power than he knows what to do with and is basically walking a predetermined path he thinks is his own. It's been hinted at a few times that Tzeentch is pleasantly surprised by him a few times, but considers the little man nothing more than a fun story to watch.

If anything, Kharn and Typhus are amazing champions that make both Lucius and Ahriman look like egocentric morons; Typhus being on the verge of that and Kharn just killing as to ease the sake of his existence.
>>
>>53701066
The vast majority of EC loyalists died on Isstvan III (though really, they were marines who the traitors thought would choose the loyalist side - they weren't necessarily asked). If there were survivors ("several", perhaps), it's unlikely that the Imperials that picked them up would allow them to form a unit and get back into combat.

However, it's possible that some companies or squads were too distant to make it to Isstvan III, or they were believed lost in transit due to warp storms... plenty of reasons why they would have missed it. You could also have some participate on the traitor side, then change their mind before, during, or after Isstvan V. Especially after the Word Bearers start doing some creepy shit with the bodies of the loyalists.

The later they leave the main fleet, the less likely they'd be to communicate with loyalist forces because they'd have to assume that they wouldn't be treated terribly well.
>>
>>53701150
I really liked that when Tzeentch decided to kill Ahriman he was going to do it in one of the most convoluted ways possible...before changing his mind.

Resident Loyalist EC player here. You can do Loyalist/Traitor of any Legions, except Word Bearers (Lorgar made a point to purge them decades earlier or convert them before the Heresy began). As another anon mentioned, you can style them after their Unification Wars color scheme, their canon scheme, or a personal Blackshield scheme. EC stayed the same throughout, but I decided to use white elements since that was a popular rank/merit marker before their unification with Fulgrim.
