So what do we like for 8th edition? Does gauss have any kind of special rules now or is it just -1ap?

Just Ap-1, still not that bad.

This is just a stopgap between editions and we will probably get more specialists in time. Also they need to discourage warrior spam with something because it's really fucking powerful as it is.

Armor isn't as good as it was in previous editions because any form of AP is gonna work against it and leadership 10 is actually a big deal. Also since multi-wounds don't carry over between models, elite units have taken a big hit so big blocks of cheap infantry are actually more durable in many cases.

Warriors are ideal because they are cheap single wound, big blocks, are easily modified with crypteks/Arks to have rerollable 4+ RP every turn with a 5+ invuln and can be buffed to 2+ BS rerolling 1's with little effort.
Plus we have a ton of ways to reliably deep strike/ reposition them which no other army can do with a unit that big.

Tesla carbines also probably the most efficient weapon in the game.
