Look up the history of ancient Ghana.
You might get a chuckle over how the early Muslim missionaries managed to piss off their queen (and the monarchies of a few others besides, which is the whole reason Islam didn't spread more than halfway south through the continent).

She's a novelist, she did make her own stories.
Also, I'm convinced that Medieval Africa settings never caught on because a primarily caucasian playerbase would ever feel comfortable roleplaying a bunch of black people.

Pretty sure Kamehameha was Hawaiian, so that's Polynesian culture. For African kingdoms look up the Mali Empire. They even have an epic composed about their first emperor Sundiata.

That picture made me sad for both of them.
>>53624295
He's the part that really gets me. Remember Guild Wars? They made an entire expansion about an African setting that wasn't at all primitive or anything, and it was arguably their best one (though that was because the other two campaigns were great as well).
Come Guild Wars 2, and they're acting like a bunch of forced-diversity tumblrites and not even acknowledging the existence of this EXTREMELY AWESOME continent in their setting.
It's the damndest thing. Nightfall was exactly what they wanted and they ignored it in favour of their own off-brand 'diversity'.
>>53625439
>people don't really own birds like that
Has this lady never heard of falconry?
>>53626015
Magic The Gathering did that sort of thing as well with the Mirage block. It had all kinds of African fantasy shit, African versions of knights and stuff, and was its own unique thing with some of the best flavour the game's ever produced.
And now Wizards is just obsessed with doing things like "Fantasy Greece" or "Fantasy Egypt" or whatever shallow inspiration hits this month and it's depressing because the game used to be so much better in that department.
>>53626061
I actually would prefer them to take a really weird and strange brush to what it is they're ripping off. Theros was great right up until you realize that the names are just changed around on the Gods and cities. (Meletis? Really WotC? You couldn't think of another name so you just changed the letters in Miletus?)
Kaladesh should have been a plane all about having Aether in the air, its volatile atmosphere, the weird creatures that would come about as a result of the plane, and all that crazy shit. From there, add some monsters from Indian folklore here and there and you've got an inspired setting that takes a few notes but feels original.
Instead it's just PUT IN BROWN PEOPLE HOLY SHIT CHANDRA GIVE ELVES STUPID NAMES MAKE DUMB STEAMPUNK CONTRAPTIONS
>>53625345
What's this from?
>>53626117
Khans (Sultai) was a better India set than Kaladesh. They should have scrapped the India India idea and made Kaladesh the anime plane (Gundams, robo waifus, race cars, and trains to name a few of the anime tropes floating around). You can always put brown people and six armed angels into a different set.
>>53626152
I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say Doctor Who. It has a certain quality to it that enrages me enough to make me think that's true.
>>53625514
What did that image say?
>>53626170
Honestly that Kaladesh sounds pretty awful as well, but that's purely because I despise artifact sets, and all those high-powered-artifice-it-may-as-well-be-science-fiction doesn't really sit nicely with me.
>>53626004
The BF has to lay the other guy out and reestablish himself as higher on the pecking order.
Or they can tell the asshole he's an asshole and needs to fuck off.
>>53626117
This. So much this. I can't remember where I read it but there was a post from an ACTUAL INDIAN complaining about how Kaladesh had nothing to do with India. Even Amonkhet feels like a set all about Nicol Bolas dressed in cheap Egyptian paint. They don't care about their settings anymore. The planes themselves don't matter, all that does matter is the fact that the Jacetice League will show up there to save the day. Every. Single. Time.
Not to mention what they've done to pre-established planes and planeswalkers with BFZ and SOI.
>>53626170
The problem with the Indian idea is it was literally a secondary thing tacked on as a "why not?" They'd decided on all the other shit to do with Kaladesh, then suddenly, "Hey, what if the people are Indian?"
That's fake diversity at its finest.
>>53626332
Also something on topic to bump the thread.
>>53626332
That is not what I was getting at whatsoever, really. I've seen ACTUAL INDIANS singing Kaladesh's praises as well, it's all spin at that point.
BFZ was just more Zendikar. It was shit, and Zendikar is a very pretty but ultimately boring and uninteresting place that is entirely defined by ELDRAZI. The thing that decided that was not BFZ, it was Rise.
Shadows wasn't that great as a set, but that's just because of how stronk original Innistrad was. The setting itself introducing eldritch horror into the mix was a logical evolution of what was already there, and it worked. In fact, making the MIND MAGE the central protagonist of that was a great idea. Execution in story, not so much, but whatever, the plane hasn't been ruined.Plus you're just mad your angel waifu is dead.
>>53626186

Come on man, that's bullshit and you know it. They aren't talking about Elona because "forced tumblr diversity", they aren't because the plan was to leave Kralkatorrix for later and because all connections with the continent are cut out because Palawa Joko kicked everyone out.
Also, Elona would require completely new assets, an people would completely freak out if it wasn't as massive as the campaign from the first game: they didn't have enough cash after launch, and I'm fairly sure they don't have it now with how the game's in uncertain waters.
>>53626596
>They aren't talking about Elona because "forced tumblr diversity"
I didn't claim this.
>>53626654
Sorry, the second paragraph made me think that was what you were saying. My mistake.
A-net kind of wrote themselves in a corner since the start with the whole dragon thing: the plot has to go around them because it wouldn't make sense in world if everyone went do their own stuff and ignored them, but that doesn't leave much room for any other plot point. I'm sad that we'll never heard of Chanta again, probably.Really hoping against hope that the next expansion is amazing, fix the ridiculous balance problems, and manage to pull the game back up from the brink, but I'm not counting on it.

If she was truly genuine in trying to explain to Jared what happened, he wouldn't have gone so far. Which means she's either lying about apologizing to him, or she's lying about what he did to her.
Later on you also have the family and friends involved, none of which would have occured without some kind of previous fractures fueling it, meaning that she's likely lying even further there.

Disproportionate, I think. If it was actually real, it's an incredibly petty thing to do, sort of like setting someone's house on fire and stealing their dog because they cut you off in traffic. What makes it so unrealistic is that, somehow, he was able to fuck 3 or 4 of the people closest to her, turn them unilaterally against her with such ferocity even their parents break ties with them, and then somehow vanish into the mist after scrubbing their online presence.

Honestly, he was right to break up with her and to get her fired and tell the new boyfriend about her history. But if he really had sex with the three girls just to get back at her, that was kind of scummy, and although it's probably exaggerated, fucking up the lives of other people in the family who aren't at any fault is a shitty thing to cause even though he clearly didn't mean to and she's as much at fault as he is.
>>53629961
The confrontation part is obviously slanted in her favor, and the thing with the friend, sister, and cousin was obviously not a one-sided thing from him, they were probably already completely disgusted with her and liked him a lot anyway. She doesn't seem legally knowledgeable enough to know that the cat thing could be in court, and I doubt she actually cares enough about the cat to do that anyway. She never said he actually slandered her, just that he told people what had happened.
I'm inclined to believe that the core aspects of the story are true, and the details are slanted in her favor subtly enough that she can pretend (to herself, the person whose opinion matters to her most) that she's being truthful.

People still don't believe me when I tell them I've literally walked through a flock of canada geese that had a few goslings with it. I stuck to the sidewalk, moved in a straight line, and pretended they didn't exist. They made a bunch of low-pitched noises probably to communicate with each other, and one of them almost hissed but stopped about half a second later.
