He's the part that really gets me. Remember Guild Wars? They made an entire expansion about an African setting that wasn't at all primitive or anything, and it was arguably their best one (though that was because the other two campaigns were great as well).

Come Guild Wars 2, and they're acting like a bunch of forced-diversity tumblrites and not even acknowledging the existence of this EXTREMELY AWESOME continent in their setting.

Magic The Gathering did that sort of thing as well with the Mirage block. It had all kinds of African fantasy shit, African versions of knights and stuff, and was its own unique thing with some of the best flavour the game's ever produced.

And now Wizards is just obsessed with doing things like "Fantasy Greece" or "Fantasy Egypt" or whatever shallow inspiration hits this month and it's depressing because the game used to be so much better in that department.

I actually would prefer them to take a really weird and strange brush to what it is they're ripping off. Theros was great right up until you realize that the names are just changed around on the Gods and cities. (Meletis? Really WotC? Kaladesh should have been a plane all about having Aether in the air, its volatile atmosphere, the weird creatures that would come about as a result of the plane, and all that crazy shit. From there, add some monsters from Indian folklore here and there and you've got an inspired setting that takes a few notes but feels original.

This. So much this. I can't remember where I read it but there was a post from an ACTUAL INDIAN complaining about how Kaladesh had nothing to do with India. Even Amonkhet feels like a set all about Nicol Bolas dressed in cheap Egyptian paint. They don't care about their settings anymore. The planes themselves don't matter, all that does matter is the fact that the Jacetice League will show up there to save the day. Every. Single. Time.

Not to mention what they've done to pre-established planes and planeswalkers with BFZ and SOI.

BFZ was just more Zendikar. It was shit, and Zendikar is a very pretty but ultimately boring and uninteresting place that is entirely defined by ELDRAZI. The thing that decided that was not BFZ, it was Rise.

Shadows wasn't that great as a set, but that's just because of how stronk original Innistrad was. The setting itself introducing eldritch horror into the mix was a logical evolution of what was already there, and it worked. In fact, making the MIND MAGE the central protagonist of that was a great idea. Execution in story, not so much, but whatever, the plane hasn't been ruined. Plus you're just mad your angel waifu is dead.

A-net kind of wrote themselves in a corner since the start with the whole dragon thing: the plot has to go around them because it wouldn't make sense in world if everyone went do their own stuff and ignored them, but that doesn't leave much room for any other plot point. I'm sad that we'll never heard of Chanta again, probably.
Really hoping against hope that the next expansion is amazing, fix the ridiculous balance problems, and manage to pull the game back up from the brink, but I'm not counting on it.

Honestly, he was right to break up with her and to get her fired and tell the new boyfriend about her history.
