Design-wise, I feel it keeps way too many elements of old tanks, especially the front. Now since it looks more like a sluggish, slow antigrav vehicle, I wouldn't say it's entirely unfitting, but it doesn't feel satisfying. They'd better tried some new design.

Or, you know, just NOT try to do a Space Marine antigrav tank. Unimaginative shit.

Do the Design Studio even talk to each other when someone from GW's finance department comes down and tells them they need to make a new big plastic kit?

What is the reason for this layout?
>>
>>53572098

I loved chapter approved as much as the next guy.
But it's pretty weird to announce "Chapter Approved!" as a new edition is coming out. It implies they're not really putting everything in the rulebook and are counting on nostalgia being able to sell yet another -different- book. Presumably with stuff that should just be in the rulebook or those Premium army books that are now just so much toilet paper.

Why did they have the retarded idea to place a twin linked lasscannon on the hull?
>>
>>53572098

It looks like it actually has some movement side to side, YMMV. And it's a hover tank, it's not like turning is an issue.

But historically there have been plenty of tracked vehicles with fixed forward guns, usually they're considered 'tank destroyers', they don't have the tactical flexibility of a real tank but they're cheaper, lower profile, and can absolutely blow the shit out of a real tank.

Decent hull mounted weapon.
Main turret weapon, and a coaxial.
Then a commanders gun. And some extra doodads.

There'll be different turret guns. Maybe exchangeable coaxial. Different hull gun.
Optional commanders gun, and the doodads will be optional with various kit.
High likelihood of command variant.
They'll get stupid names like always depending on the main turret gun.

And maybe a hull mounted super weapon variant.

>so that options are mostly about the turret swap. Or the hull mounting point.

>>

Knife ears provided the genes, then crashed a mechanicus ship right on their moon with all the tech they'd need to get a head-start. They're probably one of Eldrad's plots to dodge the Rhana Dandra by using a race of warp-immune foot soldiers.

Personally, I liked it back when the rumor was that Farsight had been corrupted by the Necrons. The Dawn Blade had the stats of a Warscythe and everything. Now it's just more demon-bullshit, that somehow hasn't bothered to eat his soul yet.
>>
>>53572473

I like it. It pushes the idea of the razorback as a frontline transport with tank hunter capabilities to the limit. The excess dakka recognizes that this mobile firing platform will be mostly fighting against massive odds, so just chuck everything on the damn thing.

>>53572673
Simple. The Primaris Boltstubber Maxigun™ is controlled with his hands. The turret-mounted Primaris Lasfire Destructorcannon™ is aimed via a hip-mounted hula hoop interface and fired by thrusts of the hip. The hull-mounted Twinlinked Lasfire Destructorcannon™ is fired via a pedal that the Primaris Space Marine™ can simply step on. The Terra's Fury Deathmissle Systems™ are auto-aiming and single-shot. They fire when the primaris Space Marine™ farts.

Having recently learned about Justinian, and his top general, Belisarius, I can't help but wonder how much GW will echo what happened there - namely that the OG big B was good at his job, actually loyal and not corrupt and Justinian would have lots of victories and achieved his goals... but at such a cost (and with poor follow up) that it ended up not mattering in the end

Guilliman as Justinian 40k could be cool, and if you want another example of easy parallels, one of the biggest events in Justinian's reign was the Plague of Justinian - the first time THE Plague, aka the Black Death, was encountered. Who is G-money's forces fighting in the fucking starter set? Plague Marines

While it may leave a bit to be desired in subtlety, I think it's cool GW are drawing on interesting historical events like this

What? The assault cannon was the primer space marine weapon for ages.
It's been consistently used with space marines.
>>
My biggest gripe with the model is the hull mounted twin-lascannon and the minigun, if they removed the hull-weapon and the minigun could be replaced with something smaller it could look pretty damn good on my opinion.

Plus it could reduce a bit of the clutter
>>
>>53573034
>>53573077
What is absolutely pissing me off the most (and this started with the Imperial guard punisher cannon) is that the Imperium had a specific look to their rotary chainguns, depending on whether it was bolter or assault cannon based, and now it's being replaced with "generic minigun" on all the fucking chainguns. Looks so fucking out of place.

It also needs less missiles, and I say this as a Macross fan.
>>
>>53573058

Yeah it was a one off, it was never actually a produced model but the round shape just looked nothing like current tank design (and why should it in the 41st millennium), but that was more interesting than this which just looks like a current tank but flying.
>>
>>53573115

this minigun wouldn't look out of place on a modern helicopter.

Yes I fucking know I can paint it however I want. That's irrelevant. The point is, you have a cramped & crowded design on the repulsive which is made worse by the color choices.

>And the ones on the sides, on top of the doors, are sunken into the hull. How much more discreet can you get?

The corvus has 3 ports for the missiles. This tank has 6, and is considerably smaller. Yes they don't have a huge profile but they are all way too close together, are still highly visible, and alongside the exterior storage boxes make this look like they just glued on too many bits.

>all imperium had before was one space marine chapter having a single jetbike

Admech really been holding out on imperium over everything here.

Well they had land speeders as well, and really "how about if we attach two set of this anti-grav gear to the bottom of a predator" should have taken less than 10,000 years.

Considering what Chapter Approved has been historically, I would be flabbergasted if ANYTHING mainstream was in this book. Chapter Approved was for wacky niche fun like extra Guard doctrines and Kroot mercenaries, not core rules.

I consider this a sign we can expect codexes to roll out before then.

Well, if you can't find a way to make it work, it's your problem.

Which would be fine if it was an ork tank.

Is this supposed to be an ork tank anon?
>>
>>53572073
the assault cannon and the faggot on top were a fucking mistake. So was the fixed lascannon.

If not for those it would be a 10/10 space marine vehicle.
>>
>>53574293

GW actually had a talented, semi-autonomous Studio back then though. Now there's a few of the oldies but it's mostly interns and nobody copywriters.

The new rulebook is very light on actual rules. I assume this is their plan for releasing official additions to the core rules.

Also VEHICLE (or I guess just unit) DESIGN RULES WHEN

Hoover or hover? They're two very different things. Just imagining a Boxnaught in a French maid outfit with a Henry...

Considering White Dwarf has a lead time of about six months for the actual articles, yeah that book's off to the printers shortly if not already.

You're missing the point though, enjoy the customer experience mate.

Damn it! Yeah sorry, Hover.

The dumb thing is since I wrote that I've been Vacuuming. So I guess subconsciously at that time I really wanted to Hoover.
>>
>>53572320
Actually makes sense depending on how fast a hover-tank can turn.

If that shit can turn on a dime independent of the top turret, then that shit don't matter.
>>
>>53574380
Nobody said fixing design flaws was difficult you slack jawed lapdog the point is the design flaw shouldn't be there to begin with.

A good product shouldn't have to be fixed once you buy it.

This tank is not a good product, but because gw knows you fuckers will buy anything, they continue to shovel out this type of shit.

Well sure, wasn't that the premise of AdMech in 40k in the first place? Reverence of technology and in particular the form of prior technology as dogmatic religion? "Don't change it lest you anger the machine spirit" and all that. Unless they had an STC of an old design they stopped making it. Apparently what it took to shake things loose is a top-level Archmagos going radical. Loosing it as an absolute rule waters down the grimdark gothic bureaucracy of 40k a bit, but GW crossed that Rubicon with gathering storm months ago. And there is still a possibility that this is just a rediscovered STC.
