Hell, my wife used to post on here. She drew the first lolicron, back in the day. She was already into tabletop games when we met. We also have the bad habit of turning our sex friends into D&D and wargaming friends. And yes, that means 80% of our gaming groups is female. Yes, they all have stable, professional jobs. And they're all normal sized humans who could fit in a kayak or a go kart, except for maybe the one rugby guy, but he's a fucking tank.

I met my ex through worldbuilding for the Pathfinder game I was going to run with her and the rest of our friends almost all of which had never played an rpg before. I offered to run a game and suggested the players throw out ideas for the setting, since I was just going to run with a kind of "vaguely fantasy whatever, I'll make it up later" She got a look on her face, ran up to her dorm, and came back with paper and maps, and we spent the next three hours designing ancient empire politics for our setting's bootleg not-mexico. We kept it up over that summer, and by the time we got back to start the campaign in earnest, we had a campaign setting I still use today.

I'm into a lot of types of games, and have gotten pretty good and understanding what types of games people like. So I play Love Letter, Guillitine and other other low set up quick session game with my girlfriend, and in groups she likes lying/bullshitting games like Sheriff of Nottingham and Secret Hitler.

Planning and resource management games aren't her things, and for RPGs she only likes freeform storytelling.

My girlfriend usually is the one who tries to move the story forward, always asking questions about the scene, trying to get more details. She's currently playing a Skinwalker(Werebat) Investigator in our Pathfinder game, where before it was a Human Fighter (Champion) in our 5E game, and a Human Rogue in our 4E game. I'm glad she's a part of our group, and it makes our relationship that much stronger for it.

And no, fuck that GM's girlfriend bullshit, there's no way she gets preferential treatment compared to everyone else. Sometimes, I make sure the monsters target her just a little more often than the rest.

I gotta say that women in roleplaying are maladjusted as often as the men in my experience. I've had good women players, I've had bad ones too.

Some things I've seen over and over from playing RPGs over the last 16 years with women is:
* They're just as guilty of being murderhobos as men.
* Arson is oddly common.
* They have no problem using their character's bodies to reach their character's goals.
* They will hit on me / date me if I meet them while GMing, but not if they meet me while playing.
* Usually decent to great at roleplaying, and awful to decent at the mechanical parts.

I'm glad I ended up dating a non-nerd honestly.

My wife and I have a 2.5 year old and play D&D fairly regularly, at least we did back when I was stationed with all of my buds.

I'm the ForeverDM, and we found it pretty easy to play. My daughter would roll either my dice or my wife's, and would also help me draw terrain on the map by adding some very good scree in the form of scribbles. Generally, she was just happy to be involved. Sometimes she might get a little miffed if we stopped her from throwing all of the dice at once, but that's pretty much it.

Friends were all good folk about it and played along until she went down for bed. All in all, so long as you go about it the right way and have a somewhat mature group, you really won't have many issued arise from it. All is not lost.

Good luck and congratulations on making another human. Just do us all a favor and do everything you can to make that new person an awesome person.

I've had some mixed results over the years.

High school gf played D&D once or twice when I ran some sessions, but she clearly didn't give a shit.

For my short term college gf our first date was a Magic prerelease, though in my defense I was planning on going in advance and only found out she liked me the night before. She had a fun time and from what I understand she kept playing after we split.

Last /tg/ to gf experience was with this chick I met on Tinder. She was big into Magic and had like 5 different EDH decks, but the difference in deck quality and play skill between us was way too large. I'd crush her every game without trying, even if I was playing her own decks. I guess she was having fun because she kept insisting on playing, but it was kinda depressing for me.

And now I'm all alone in a state where I don't really know anyone, but that's ok.

Hope is a first step on the road to disappointment.

She isn't very much a game player, so I was afraid I would accidentally curbstomp her. We played AoS because a) it was fantasy b) has simple rules c) the game I play. I put maybe 150 more points on the table for her and gave her something that synergized.
Early part of the game one combat happened and she was shitstomping me.
Midway through, the other combat went off and my troops raped hers. It was brutal. I literally grabbed 4 models and put them on the table to give her some chance of surviving. It didn't last though.
Fortunately, she mopped up the first battle and got them on the move. By the time I finished off her dryads, she was charging in with Wild Riders yelling "For the Trees!" and wiped me up.
The biggest reason we haven't played again is multiple:
1. It's my game, so she's isn't the one suggesting we play.
2. My setup isn't very good. I have two 2.5 x 6 folding tables that don't sit evenly, I don't have a good battlefield mat, my terrain is fairly crap, and I still need to paint too many armies.
3. AoS' fluff as a whole is so completely jank, and I can't in good faith promote it to her. But none of the other games will work. Malifaux falls too far into "scary" territory and WHFB/WMH has too many fucking rules to teach her properly.

I can go one better, actually:
I taught my wife 2e AD&D and it in no small way saved her quality of life. I know, I know... let me explain as quickly as I can.
About 5 years ago, my wife got cancer pretty bad and had to go on chemo and radiation. It helped, but they ended up giving her experimental shit to actually get rid of it, then cut out the main tumors.
During all of this, her mind started slipping: couldn't remember things, had a hard time with cognitive thinking and all that shit. It was bad, though it's not like she was a vegetable or anything
The doctor suggested that she exercise her brain more by reading and talking about a book that we both read at the same time.
It got pretty lame after a week or so, by her own admission, and so one thing led to another... which led to me breaking all my old books and notes out of storage; and she gave D&D a try.
Lo and Behold! A success. She not only worked herself back into normal memory function but she found out she loves D&D and I found out I missed out on a lot of fun in the 20 years I hadn't been playing. I'm running a campaign for her that's been going on for 5 years now.

Actually go figure, I actually met my at the gaming table.

I have had great success bringing my fiance (6th anniversary today) into tabletop rpgs. She joined our D&D 5E campaign as a human bard of satire college around level 8, and enjoyed the ride all the way to the end and level 20. She will be joining our next campaign too, this time running a warforged Monk.
She's also joining a campaign which I'll be running with my homebrew system, offering more freedom in character creation. Inb4 "that's a bad idea anon." The restrictive nature of D&D isn't really her thing, but its good enough.
Sadly she isn't into competitive games, so no luck getting her into warhammer, even though I would have enough models for the both of us to play. Except Tyranids are her favorite faction anyway, which I have only several single models painted for her as gifts. Oh well.

My ex wife was already into RP and now likes table top and LARP. She really likes the Fantasy Flight DH games, and everything Drown in D&D.

One of the women I'm currently dating writes and runs freeform and indie parlor LARPs at conventions.

Other woman I am currently dating is interested in a LARP I attend but is shitposty as all fuck and a masterful troll.

One of my longest running DMs is a woman who I went to college with and just finished a PhD and ran a beautiful damn SJ campaign for over a decade.

I have played with numerous groups of people which included women who were not dating any of the other players.
