How fake are the HOD spoilers?

New artwork, rules that work without any issues.

What evidence is there for them to be fake?
>>

Commonly echoed sentiment last thread, mostly because people don't want to perpetuate the meme, so it was an easy question to think up.

>>
>doing mah nigga Bolas dirty like that
I'd rather just play Karn 2bh
>samut planeswalker
She's somehow even uglier and more useless. 2RG for a shitty damage divide or a double striker? Lame. And I say that because no one is going to let samut get to ult status ever.
>>
>>53562503
I would add a little bit more ramp, a tip is have ~10 cards that ramp and ~10 cards that gets you card advantage.
>>
>>53562503
>>53562503

Without looking I can see that you're running Teysa 1.0, a three mana commander who works great on a low curve, so you should probably be running around 35 lands and 10-15 rocks (10 GOOD ones is ideal). The vast majority if not all of your lands should enter untapped and the majority of your rocks should cost 2 or less, ideally but not necessarily coming in untapped.

And while I'm dishing out generic advice, Thin your paints. I don't know if you paint anything or even own paints, so if you don't maybe go out, buy some paints, and thin them. I think the nascent /tg/ hive mind would be happy with that outcome.
>>
>>53562414
Looks pretty fun. I'd swap the keyrune for another mana rock, unless the blocking/ability to sac it is that important. Maybe the 2 mana rocks if you feel you need it. For lands, I would highly advise finding spots for myriad landscape and ash barrens. They're both great and budget. Otherwise, I'd try to jam some graveyard hate in there. A nihil spellbomb, bojuka bog and nezumi graverobber/angel of finality would go a long way to having outs to graveyard shenanigans.

>>53562582
I have ramp through Crypt Ghast and ill cut the Orzhov Guildgate for Cabal Coffers which is technically ramp. Should I be cutting other cards for more rocks?
>>53562625
My ramp in the deck and rocks are as follows
>Sol Ring, Orzhov Signet, Orzhov Keyrune, Gilded Lotus, Ashnods Altar, Phyrexian Altar, and Crypt Ghast
>>
>>53562805
Ring: 1
Signet: 1
Keyrune: 0.5
Lotus: 0.5
Altars: 0.5 each
Ghast: 0.5

Add about 6 more GOOD ramp cards. Fellwar Stone, Thought Vessel, Mind Stone, maybe mana vault or even mana crypt if you're willing to go for a more expensive card, Coldsteel Heart, Marble Diamond, Charcoal Diamond, Prismatic Lens, Magnifying Glass if you're playing a longer game, maybe Worn Powerstone... there are many choices
>>
>>53562974
But what cards do I cut for them? The worst card in the deck is Belfry Spirit so I suppose that
>>
>>53562974
Also my biggest problem in the deck is its so heavy on color requirements that rocks like Sol Ring and Mana Crypt dont do as much as theyd normally do since I really need stuff like BBB or WWBB

Glad because I can remove languish from my decks
>>
Can someone explain to me why Balance isn't just universally hated, it's straight up banned even in Commander? Is it because of degenerate artifact mana decks intentionally building around it? Falling into MLD strategies? Simply sowing analpocalypse levels of salt among ramp players? Being too cheap for its effect?

I got one recently and I really wish it wasn't banned, though only because I can't come up with an easy way to abuse it to the point of being bannable.

I wanted to get opinions on my newest idea.

I saw Jorael the other day and thought she would be awesome if she were part white so that she would have access to boardwipes. So I decided to go the secret commander route and put Captain Sisay at the helm so she can be reliably tutored.

The rest of my game plan is basically just running a stupid amount of wipes and ramp. The biggest problem I can see is getting cards in hand to discard, but with that in mind I am thinking mana doubling effects and just using lands for the discard. The only win con currently is a few anthem effects and token makers. I am purposly trying to go creature light, but if I have to add something like Craterhoof thats fine.

I'm just theory crafting at the moment, so all changes and new ideas are welcome. I am even wondering if it would be better to add black so that draw would be easier, and then reanimation could play a bigger role.

>>
>>53564112
Instead of using her as a way to wipe someone's lands you can use her as a deterrent to wraths. Green can play a bunch of creatures and as long as you're holding up Jolrael and 3 mana no one is going to cast a boardwipe when they know you'll make them lose the game.

>>53565620
He is 5 color. Color identity takes into account all mana symbols and colors on a card, not just their mana cost. Shu Yun is WUR for example.

>>53565677
All of the mana symbols on the card, except for those in reminder text, count towards the color identity.

Trinisphere has a black mana symbol but the symbol is part of reminder text so Trinisphere is still colorless for its color identity. Blind Obedience is white color identity and Crypt Ghast is black color identity because extort only has the white/black mana symbol in the reminder text.

Shu Yun, Ramos, Thelon, and similar cards are multicolored color identity because of the mana symbols in their text.
>>
>>53565669
I guess that's true.

Now if only I could get the fucking Johnny in my group to stop using off-color fetches.

I don't know why it irritates me, but it seems kinda counterpoint to the idea BEHIND EDH to use off-color fetches.
>>
>>53565727
It's a very tryhard thing to do unless he is using them for landfall or some kind of similar effect. That said, I've done it in decks that benefited from it.
>>
>>53565752
As in he'll play everything that has 'Island' or 'Plains' in his Ojutai deck. He's tryhard as fuck.
>>
>>53565727
Even worse is the new rule that allows you to make mana in colors outside your color identity. So Chromatic Lantern, Darksteel Ingot, etc can be used to make ANY color mana and cast spells that aren't in your general's colors. I took a break from the game and missed the year when that change was made and it really seems bizarre. It only helps fringe cards.
>>
>>53565620
It also takes into account all Color Identifiers that appear on double-faced cards. Elbrus, Binding Blade's identity is Black because of the dot placed next to the Card's supertypes on the transformed side of the card.
>>
>>53565779
It's more intuitive and there wasn't much of a point to have that rule in the first place
>>
Which is better in this Rakdos deck.

>>
>>53565779
The reason they stopped having the "mana turns colorless" thing going on was because they made cards with colorless mana requirements. While it has to date been only for that set, they can do more at any time, and anus mana is supposed to be harder to come by, so they changed the rules back to how they always should have worked in the first place.

That makes sense. I didn't think of how the rules really would change and make colorless mana work differently.

Colorless mana worked out pretty well, I hope they bring it back sometimes even if it is an akward combination of artifact and a 6th color. In an artifact deck they feel colorless but in a deck that runs no artifacts they are much more like a 6th color and lead to playing painlands and other cards specifically for the colorless mana ability.

A large percentage of Magic players are socially incompetent. If you encounter someone who says something that could be interpreted as hostile, there's like a 50% change they were trying to joke around.

That said, there's a dude who occasionally plays at my store that always gets mad over minor things and says shit like "go fuck yourself" if you destroy one of his dudes. I just avoid playing with him or if I get stuck with him, I focus him until one of us is dead.

It depends if you're playing for anything. If it's just for fun, I kind of agree. Everyone should be aiming for the same power level with their decks. However, I'm sure a lot of groups have stax decks and still have fun because the other decks are built to handle it.

If you're playing for any kind of prizes, anything is fair game and fun is no longer a consideration. Only winning is.

Why do people get so upset about MLD? I've seen mill decks and decks with 20+ counterspells yet nobody complains about those
>>
>>53567752
When you play a card and it gets countered you and the other guy can go "I see what's going on here. It didn't work, but it would have been cool if it did." When you destroy lands there's never a chance for your opponent to say "Here's what my deck does, you can respond." Instead you're telling him that what his deck does isn't important because he will never get to cast.
>>
>>53567752
Players will tell you that MLD is against the "spirit of the format". They "want to be able to play the game".

These players are really just trying to defend their bad deckbuilding. Why would I make my deck more resilient or run a couple more pieces of interaction when I could just stuff another Praetor in there?

Nevermind that MLD is the best way to deal with some of the absurd ramp that goes on or that it's a great way to seal a victory when you're way ahead.

The same players that complain about MLD are the same ones who think infect should be higher or that Sol Ring should be banned. They're whiners and they're incapable of improving their decks.
>>
>>53567710
Well once you put competition in to the equation then yeah, everyone is going to try to win.
But I still don't see how playing a deck that is solely Stax (not decks with just abit in there for control/safety, I'm talking about "no one else gets to play cards") can be fun in a non competitive environment.
Either 1. You go off, people can't deal with it and you win. No one has fun but you.
2. You get targeted by everyone else when they realize you're playing hard Stax and you lose by turn 3-4. You don't get to have fun.
>>
>>53567794
If it was "against the spirit of the format", they wouldn't have introduced MLD to the game as a whole.

Some players enjoy the challenge of getting out of nearly unwinnable situations. If you can imagine 4 people playing against each other every week for a long time, it would make sense that they would adapt to what the other decks have.

Some groups just enjoy playing no matter what happens in the game. Magic is a social game, after all.

The #1 key to having fun in this format is finding players with similar goals. A super competitive group can still have a lot of fun in a game that ends on turn 4 if those are the kinds of games they enjoy. Fun is subjective.
>>
>>53567826
Yeah, a lot of players treat MLD and a few other things like their actions that you can inflict upon a game instead of options that exist within the game.

Armageddon is a real card. It has existed since day 1. It's not some kind of divine action that you can curse a game with. Any player has the option to use it.

Mill is very easy to counteract, especially in EDH
>>
>>53567978
I have no problem with mill or MLD, I just find them both to be slightly annoying
>>
>>53567978
Mill is the worst win condition in the format. It does nothing until you hit the last card and until then, you're probably helping them because so many EDH decks have graveyard strategies or just recursion. A single copy of an Eldrazi also totally negates your entire deck.

It's fun when I have my Izzet deck stacked with infinite draw/damage combos and every counterspell ever printed.

How many lands you've got then? Like 10?
>>
Alright guys, my college playgroup was a lot stronger than my playgroup at home, and as a result the improvements I made to my decks made them crazy pubstompy. I've decided I wanna hold back my competitive nature for a 60 card format and play something more fun in EDH. Now the problem is I still want to have complex decision trees with meaningful decisions. Any suggestions for a general?
>>
>>53567978
The only time MLD is an issue is when its just out of spite because someones about to win the game. I had someone wipe all lands just because they were at 5 life and they died the next turn to a swing, it needlessly extended the game out because we all had to rebuild landbases and there was no way the land wipe was going to prevent him from losing. It was just a spite move to piss everyone off.
>>
>>53569047
What decks did you play in non-edh formats?
Control? Combo? Midrange? Toolbox?
If you want a deck that favors knowledge and good decision making I'd suggestion captain sisay since she's the definition of toolbox and you can tone stuff down by adding in some fun legendaries to pull.

1v1 commander died in my area, we used to be 30+ people every friday and saturday, then WotC came out with their retarded online banlist and now people don't want to play Duel Commander because "What if the (((official))) list gets fixed?" but they won't play with the online rules either because they're objectively shit.

Now the only people I have to play my 100 singleton piles with are a bunch of retards who think any sort of interaction is "against the spirit of EDH".

How do you force weenie hut denizens to level up?

Freyalise. It's $35 for the precon, +$15-20 for Heritage Druid, Sylvan Library, Wirewood Herald, Wirewood Symbiote, Wirewood Lodge, Gaea's Herald, Beast Within and Nykthos.
>>
>>53569979
I designed them to be a cycle of the lords (plus Seath) in their glory days. Having only the Witch of Izalith be a flip card would break the cycle, and Seath didn't discover the Primordial Crystal until later in his life, when he was on the cusp of madness, so it'd be a flavor fail to have it ETB with him. Plus I just like the Primordial Crystal being its own card. Might redesign it for a different effect though, since exiling it is a flavor fail.

I guess they could all be redesigned as flip cards, but the Pygmy and Nito seem really difficult to design on a flavor level as the former has almost no lore, and the latter doesn't change much at all.

Also I need to find better art for the Pygmy, since it's the only card whose identity doesn't match up with its art.

Yes. You can build powerful artifact and combo decks with him.

>>53573309
Arcum is "Answer me before I untap or die" level artifact combo. Of course, he's fairly easy to answer and does need some setup, but you can still go ape really easily with tutoring like that

For snow, Heidar would be ideal if only he were tricolor. As it stands there just aren't enough good snow cards in monoblue to justify him, even if he'd be hilarious brought online. You'd probably be better off running him in the 99 of some chucklefuck who's just there to flag down colors. Maybe Merieke Ri Berit, since they both benefit from mass untapping? Or you could take Thrasios+Whatever partners and get some combination of Heidar, Into the North, Cover of Winter, Skred, and... I've always felt like black has good snow support but now that I try to name it I'm not so sure. Ah, Viscerid Drone -- technically a blue card but needs swamps to work.
>>
>>53573538
Arcum is Consistent Artifact Combo/Stax. Stax with Orb effects while using rocks for mana, or sacrificing them to Arcum's effect during your opponent's end step. Combo with either Staff of Domination+Infinite mana (Power Artifact+Grim Monolith) or Citanul Flute+ Paradox Engine+Rocks.

I personally don't care what format you play just saying that playing EDH and not wanting seven hour slug fests is like playing legacy and expecting no one to run FoW. You might find metas that fit the billing but by and large you need to make peace with the fact that you may need to redefine your expectations or try another format.

Both. Tamanoa is the incarnation of Freyalise's Worldspell that ended the Ice Age, so it could easily have been Legendary since that was a one-off event.

And the effect is incredible with the tools in the colors. I'm not even going to address Aetherflux Reservoir that would of course go stupid with a Commander Tamanoa. No, just consider what happens with Manabarbs, Overabundance, Spellshock, Ankh of Mishra -- basically every "I'll hurt you if you do that" card in existence. Symmetrical? So much the better. Add a few on-life-gain triggers like Searing Meditation, Archangel of Thune, or Well of Lost Dreams? It's a recipe for crazy fun. Not super-competitive, but fun.

bolt is AWESOME in edh
a lot of the best commanders have less than 3 toughness put it in every red deck you have for a test and watch how much weight it carries
u fuck
>>
>>53576587
He meants to the dome. But you rarely see Bolt played in EDH anyway.
>>
>>53576570
I think Myr Battlesphere would be more fitting as your commander both flavourly and mechanically
>>
>>53576587
You hit the player before the activated ability for damage from Aetherflux resolves and gains them life. Or if you weren't the target, I guess you can hit them in response to the gain trigger since it's not Lifelink "Also causes you to gain" rather than saving your other opponent.

Insert instant burn of choice, faggots. Bolt is iconic, but a lot of red decks will pack something, and we're clearly in magical christmasland.
>>
>>53576618
>a lot of the best commanders have less than 3 toughness
Tazri, Zur, Prossh, wait what about Narse- oh wait... Oh yeah it kills Derevi and Selvala for a turn, great.
>>
>>53576618
Namefags go away. Your opinion is bad and Bolt really won't be doing much. Any good commander with less than 3 toughness can be cast again really easily. That burn spell is too low impact for EDH.
>>
I've really liked Samut in the stories, I've been trying to ignore the ignorant faggotry, but even I can't deny that as a walker, she's one of the least playable ones ever printed. There's no way her effects can be that small, yet costed at 4. That's miserable.
>>
>>53576725
>I've really liked Samut in the stories
what did she even do?
>>
>>53576618
Forget the dream of offing a commander, red should generally run a couple burn spells to spot remove irritating utility critters, and Bolt is one of the best and most versatile since it's instant, more damage than anything else that casts for pocket change, and can go to the dome to snipe some counters off a Planeswalker, at least. It's outclassed by Path/Swords but has its place alongside most other colors of spot removal.
>>
>>53576738
She's a dissenter who's been exploring the ancient wasteland parts of her world, and even went outside the Hekma once, and found all these olds hieroglyphs naming Bolas the "Trespasser". It shook her and now she's facing a lovecraftian reality in an Egypt setting. She even went to some of the gods and tried to beg them to remember the truth, never quite working. I actually think Samut is bomb and I like her legend card a lot. But it's true, her walker is practically unusable. It'll never be worth playing.
>>
>>53576738
>what did she even do?
She told the Gatewatch to shut the fuck up and do her fucking sidequest with enough authority to get them to stop bitching each other out for five seconds?

She displayed something approximating actual human emotions rather than babbling about leylines like some goddamned magical stoner?

Samut's not a great character or even really a good one but the bar is very low right now.
>>
>>53576634
Even if you hit Tamanoa in response, her player still picks off an opponent. Better hope it's not you, and in the next game Tamanoa will be prepared for your bolt anyway.
>>
>>53576776
>It'll never be worth playing.
It's Tooth & Nail #2 for anything that runs Doubling Season. I'd give it some marginal utility at that.

>Running a green deck that doesn't have any ramp spells
Avenger literally wins the game if you play 1+ lands.
>>
>>53577462
I'm not saying that it isn't a powerful play, I'm saying that he takes way too long to win you the game >on his own<, especially so if you cheat him into play early, since you get too few tokens out of him. The tokens are great to abuse with buff spells, with lands you only get a decent value if you either drop Avenger really late or of you drop 5+ lands before they get wiped by a stray Damnation or something.

I'm sure it has happened, yes.
I ended up in a discussion with a very religious person about Magic a while back last year, because they had a child who was interested in it and they reacted with "Isn't that game all about summoning monsters and demons?", so I ended up showing them Baneslayer Angel and amazingly it actually changed their opinion quite a bit. They had been very trepidatious about allowing their kid to play, to the point of forbidding it prior to that conversation.
>>
>>53579582
Yes there are some Christian parents that are completely retarded about it.

My father and mother and law are evangelicals, but they happily give me magic products for the holidays.
>>
>>53579771
yeah i don't really understand why you'd want to stop your kids from playing MTG because it has demons, that's like telling your kids not to read the bible because satan is in it

if anything, MTG teaches that good can prevail over evil if you just pack enough removal for all the demons
>>
>>53579807
Baneslayer's my default "No, no, look how everything's fine" card. Nothing sells it quite as well as "Protection from Demons". I've ended up in three different conversations with people where Baneslayer Angel effectively communicated that Magic isn't all evil.

Angels are usually given male pronouns. Even if some of the old testament Angels are miraculous in appearance they are still gendered as male. This is Christianity we are talking about. It is heavily biased towards the male spectrum.

Some sects prefer them to be sexually ambiguous because they are not beings to be sexualized in anyway.
>>
>>53579950
>>53579986
When angels are given gender it is always male. See Abraham's encounter, Genesis 18, Jacob's encounter, Genesis 32, Joshua's encounter, Joshua 5, Samson's parents' encounter, Judges 13. And it's not just a lost in translation thing, Hebrew is a gendered language and these angels are called men.
>>
>>53580119
>>53580087
Additionally the female gender didn't even exist until the creation of eve from Adam. Angels were around before Adam.
