Just speculation, but my guess is that Luther's marines defeated the Lion's bunch. They're the ones with the connection to Caliban, so they were wearing green. The loyalists (in black) attacked them, the traitors asked the powers of Chaos for help, and those powers scattered the loyalists across the galaxy and the ritual blew up the planet. The Lutherites realized that they'd have to face the rest of the Imperium, so they pretended that they had been the good guys all along and have been on a campaign to silence the Fallen ever since, for obvious reasons.
