How do you do dwarves?
Are they the same as always or different somehow?
>>
>They finally stop b8 OP poster

In other news Dwarf Fortress dwarfs are the best dwarfs.
>>
>>53552941
You say "they", but it was just me and this is the first time I've been on 4chan in months, so clearly the regulars need to take more initiative.
>>
Completely new DM here with a three player party. They want to know what they should play, I'm not sure what to tell them beyond "What do you want to play"?, which I have, repeatedly. But they're min-maxing assholes and I love them for it, so what's a good party structure for total newbies?
>>
I like the little blurb in the 3e DMG or the 3e Oriental Adventures where dwarves are Ming dynasty gunners, but are otherwise standard Tolkien warrior-sculptors.
>>
>>53552964
You have my thanks regardless.
>>
>>53552964
The b8 OP poster always posts well before we actually need a new thread.

>>53552966
Paladin, Wizard, Barbarian, I suppose?
Barbarian gets to feel excessively tanky, Wizard gets excessive utility and Paladin gets excessive burst and some team support.
>>
>>53552982
You're welcome, though I did it largely for selfish reasons.
Humorless /pol/ arguments do not entertain me, and if I have to be laid up today with a nasty skin condition I'd rather be entertained while doing it.
>>
>>53553000
>The b8 OP poster always posts well before we actually need a new thread.
You have to preempt him then, repeatedly.
Only way to stop it. Just a suggestion.
>>
>>53553007
I assume you failed your saving throw?
>>
>>53553021
More like failed a Perception check.
Poison oak.
>>
Reposting because it never got a reply:

Coming up with an idea for the dragonborn Paladin who needs a magic shield, how does this sound? Level 3, but everybody else gets something slightly similar. I made it semi-cursed for fluff reasons. It is intended to have a potential downside.

>Oath of Tamara (Requires Attunement by a Dragonborn Paladin)
>This shield is blessed by Tamara, for a devout servant in need of guidance.

>This blessed shield adds +1 AC, and the shield counts as the holy symbol.

>The wearer is no longer resistant to a damage type as per their draconic origin, but instead immune.

>Whenever a breath weapon or similar type of area of effect is made, that hits both the bearer and an ally, the Dragonborn must take a reaction to block it. This save is made with advantage, and if it succeeds, the Dragonborn takes full damage and stops the cone from hitting anyone behind him. If it fails, he still takes damage, but doesn't stop the AoE.

>Claw of Tamara
>The shield has a Claw like shape, and can be used as a +1 off hand weapon doing 1d4 slashing damage.

It feels appropriate to the character, and the God, and being a white dragonborn, I am not really worried about immunity to cold damage.
>>
>>53552969
>dwarves are Ming dynasty gunners, but are otherwise standard Tolkien warrior-sculptors.
That sounds kinda fun, actually.
>>
>>53553000
>The b8 OP poster always posts well before we actually need a new thread and everyone files into the new thread like sheep and starts complaining about the OP instead of just ignoring him and making a new thread at the appropriate time

Hey, I fixed that post you made
>>
>>53553038
Sure, why not?
>>
>>53553007

Is it mites?
Tell me it isn't mites.
>>
>>53553069
Poison oak. I want to run blunt rocks across my arms and back right now.
Severe enough that I got sent home.
>>
>>53553038
not bad. though that does seem like you're promoting picking a fight with dragons of your own colour.
>>
>>53553020
So should I make a new thread right now to get there before them?
It'd only get pruned and even if it did work they'd make a new thread even earlier seeing that we'd do that and it'd turn into even more of a shitfest than when the entire thread's comments wre being deleted but not the thread itself.
>>
>>53553103
Like I said, it was just a suggestion.
I'm not a regular here, do what you want.
>>
Thanks to the janitors, bros.

Anyone excited for Stream of Annihilation?
>>
>>53553030

I have poison is over my yard, thank God every day I'm not allergic.
It's weird that it's like a 50/50 split between people being totally fine and horrific burning itching agony.
>>
>>53553038
Just know that in the long term you shouldn't dump truckloads of AC items on your party unless you want AC bloat. One or two is fine.

Shields and +3 armour modifiers are the worst offenders.
>>
What feats or fighting style should I take to get the most out of using a trident with both hands?
>>
>>53552912
Dwarves are near my favorite race. Its a shame my favorite classes don't mess well with them so I can't play them more. Hard to not think of surly assholes that love to mine, forge and drink though.

Not related but I'm making a Hexblade for an upcoming run and I've decided on the 1 fighter dip to get CON prof, Heavy armor, and a fighting style(shit is way too good to pass up) the question is do I go Tiefling for maximum Warlock, or Human and snag a feat.
>>
>>53553138
Not that weird. Some people are allergic to shellfish or penuts or kiwis.
But it's not burning agony with me, just REALLY itchy and kind of everywhere, so it's extremely distracting to me and very noticeable.
Plus I'm the kind of guy who doesn't give a fuck and will just dig away at a bug bite until it turns into a scab to stop the itching, which won't really help here.
>>
>>53553159

Once we had an entire party of dwarves for one game.
It was actually quite memorable.

My one weakness.
>>
>>53553130

I'm a few sessions behind on C Team and Dice, Camera, Action.
I don't follow a lot of the other stuff, so I hope it'll be games that don't rely to much on ongoing plot.
>>
>>53552912
>How do you do dwarves?

I play a Battlerager Goliath who was raised by Dwarves and is therefore technically a dwarf through right of nurture in ethnic dwarvish culture's eyes.

>Yes, it's Carrot
>>
>>53553190

Well, I meant the proportion, it's almost literally a coin-flip situation, with poison ivy at least.
>>
>>53553194
There's something really inspiring about those that nerf themselves because they know it's the right thing to do, or to make the game more interesting. I once had a player play a monk, he decided, as a challenge, he would be a blind monk, but decided not to accept the "Blindvision" our DM was gonna give him. He started the game with his sight, then in session zero, through both plot reasons and his own, he decided that to truly surpass his masters, he must handicap himself and fight to regain the level he was at. So he took a knife and ritually plucked out his own eyes, then pickled them.

20 levels later he had also removed all of his fingers so he only had his fists as clubs, and used his toes for all fine motor movements, sewn up his mouth and taken a vow to never talk, instead communicating through gestures and meaningful silence, and flayed his entire skin of flesh, so as to build up callouses and create armoured skin.

He was a crazy bastard but my god he was fun to play with.
>>
Alright help me out here

I had to move cross country for work related reasons. I finally found a group to GM for.

They are only 3 players, and has been looking for a player and/or a GM. They don't mind being a 3 man party. They did suggest that I make a GMPC, but I am still considering that. It is 2 chicks and a guy, but they seem like a fairly friendly bunch.

Last party died because the GM and a player hooked up, and the other 3 players stopped having fun entirely. So they left and started looking for a new group.

Their preferred playstyle is not what I am used to:
>They play once a week as a group, and one day every week there is a solo session with one player and the GM rotating between them.

I am not sure how to do this at all. If we play every Sunday (as was the agreed upon day, which fits perfectly so far), I need to somehow make sure that at least the player I am having a solo session with will be alone and have something to do, that won't involve the rest of the party.

So far I am told it is mostly RP stuff, things that wont interest the other players much (because their characters aren't involved at all).

What could I do for these small 1 on 1 sessions? Just give them the ropes and hope that is enough? Any good small events I can run them through during evening I could use?

Does anyone have experience with this style of play?
>>
>>53553219
Used to be bee stings for me.
>>53553230
That's...definitely unusal.
>>53553251
Yeah, I dunno why that is.
Excuse me while I take a dull knife and apply a refreshing flensing to my epidermal layer.
>>
>>53553230

Does he write letters home every week?
>>
>>53553260
One on one sessions are great for backstory related things in particular.
Things that don't involve the other party members and just would slow things down.
i.e. The Monk meeting their master.
Or the monk going on a trip to some various monastaries.

There'd be a lot less combat / less deadly combat.
>>
>>53553260
>Does anyone have experience with this style of play?
I have, actually.
The first kind I do is "character specific" stories that are geared towards their own plotlines and backstories while they're away from the rest of the party.
The second kind won't be helpful to you.
>>
>>53553281

Careful not to spread it anon.
>>
>>53553256
Question is how did the DM factor this into the narrative and the mechanics ?

Wouldn't the monk have been at a constant penalty to hit, easy to be hit and even struggle to move around on his own? While it's cool when a player does this it is also a detriment to the entire group.
>>
>>53553090
Considering he is a white dragonborn Devotion Paladin worshipping Tamara of all things, I am pretty sure that's the idea.

>>53553159
Not giving him magic armour. I told him he would get a shield or armour, and he picked his shield.

It is a pretty nifty one too. Basically his shield is a plate of a White Dragon scale, painted with the symbol of Tamara, and has his own scales literally ripped off his body, set around the edges of the shield.

I like when my players put effort into their gear rather than the boring "uhh, standard sword and shield" I always hear.
>>
>>53553311
It won't spread, as I've removed all the urishiol already. The downside is I didn't get it off in time and it's already fucking everywhere.

>The Monk meeting their master.
>Or the monk going on a trip to some various monastaries.
But most of these takes a long time, and I dont want the other players to feel like they just skipped several weeks forward whenever they meet again.
>There'd be a lot less combat / less deadly combat.
That's a given. I also got he feeling that combat was not really the intended use of these sessions, especially since they are so short in comparison.

>>53553309
>The second kind won't be helpful to you.
...youll need to elaborate on that, just because you made me curious now.

This old post ' lessons from dming with my gf' actually offers some really good advice. It's the kandi and pepper articles.

You can also track down on google a whole series of one on one modules to use. I've done a 1 player 1 DM dungeon crawl and it's actually a lot of fun. (Though you need to keep fights to very low hp and CR or enlist hirelings etc)

I actually find the pure RP stuff a bit more difficult as I find a lot of good RP comes from interplay between the group but perhaps that's each to their own.
>>
Are the current fighting styles enough? Do people want to see more of them?
>>
>>53553363
Combat with only one or two people can be incredibly deadly unless you purposefully play dumb.

Two completely unarmed people can screw over someone by grapples alone depending on what they are.

As for time restrictions, you either have downtimes a lot of the time (that're assumed to be players training, levelling, relaxing and such or regaining power except the solo player who's with you) or it's something close or you just assume it has happened a little bit in the past.

The 5e Guide to Sex.pdf

Hmm. I had thought that the term "planetouched" would be more well-known, but evidently it wasn't. Thus this now splits aasimar, genasi, and tieflings into three separate entries on the compatibiliy table and gestation table. This makes the former exceed the margins, but on the other hand it's not like I have to worry about print bindings so that should be fine.

Also added an appendix that we'll refer to as the "bard's checklist". If you're curious, the hardest thing to seduce is an ancient gold dragon (DC 34). The hardest thing to satisfy, however, is an Empyrean (DC 30). The easiest dragon to seduce is a young white dragon, while the easiest to satisfy is a four-way tie between young black, young green, young brass, and young copper.

Finally, I revised the satisfaction check so that you now only get +1 per minute *above five minutes* on it. So +1 at 6 minutes, +2 at 7 minutes, and so on. This means that average people (human with a 10 Constitution) now have average sex, on average. It was previously too easy to satisfy your partner.

Pixie guy needs to run the numbers again on the earliest point a non-shrunk human can satisfy a pixie, I guess.

Had a player who wanted to buy a wand of fireball. Newbie DM ( who said the wand was only 500 GP) said the wand has 7 charges so can shoot 7 fireballs per round.
Newbie DM said wand was OP. Player took it.
Player is doing 56 d6 damage per round in a 20 foot radius.
Rest of party killed themselves.

They're fine. If you want to make those classes more interesting, add interesting feats and remove compulsory weapon feats.

We did this a few days ago and a janitor showed up, deleted the new timely thread, left the bait thread up and proceeded to delete 22/30 of that thread's posts.
>>
>>53553491
The difference is is
>ignoring him and making a new thread at the appropriate time
The appropriate time is when the old thread dies as presumably pruning won't happen then, maybe?
>>
>>53553460
holy shit, I had to reread 56 a couple of times
that wasn't a wand that was a nuke
>>
>>53553504
The appropriate time is just whenever the janitor doesn't delete the new general thread. There's no actual appropriate time.

For the record, on the times that I've created a new thread, I've usually done it when there was about 320+ posts in the old one, as that seems good enough to me.
>>
>>53553329
for the blindness, the DM said "alright, so no blindvision, but i'm making it so you gotta see using another sense and gain proficiency with it, so it fits with your story" so he picked touch, and eventually learned to feel air being displaced by moving enemies. Took him about a year in game to perfect it, and until he did while he was learning, he had a different map to the rest of us, and could only see a very short distance.

It did make for some fun, mostly him running into walls because he was moving too fast to detect things in his way before they were right there, but it wasn't too big a detriment.
>>
>>53553521
Granted that would be pretty casual tier I'm Pathfinder.
>>
>>53553452
Derendil is highlighted as a quaggoth in OotA. Suck it.
>>
>>53553504
The bait thread was made when the old thread was on page fucking 2 and was left up. The non-bait thread that went up at page 7, was deleted.
>>
>>53553555
And Shuushar in OotA is outlined as just a regular kuo-toa. That didn't stop me from giving him a level in Mystic. Likewise Sarith was made into an oathbreaker Paladin.

I and my players found it personally more fun if they had class levels. As I believe I outlined, though, they are locked into their class choices, as well as locked into being 1 level below the average party level.

>>53553563
The only aspect of the old threads that was bait was the image, and it's YOUR fault for rising to the bait. Otherwise it's just a normal /5eg/. It's not like the links in OP were replaced with links to pornhub or something, after all.
>>
>>53553394
>lessons from dming with my gf
That doesnt sound appropriate. But I'll give it a read.

I think the RP elements are mostly relationship building between them and NPCs. Like, a certain NPC friend, love interest, business partner, something like that, that wouldn't normally include the party.

Speaking of which, could I make a "GMPC" as a sort of familiar? I am thinking of making a small or medium sized intelligent familiar of some kind as the "follows people around" guy, tgat could potentially be present in most of these solo sessions to help alleviate the combat pressure of being 1 person.
>>
>>53553038

>>53553618
>and it's YOUR fault for rising to the bait.
Either you're the baitfag or you're disabled. People didn't rise to his bait images. He himself did. He samefagged like fuck until arguments were unavoidable.
>>
>>53553651
>>53553651
Yeah I should have mentioned to ignore the GF part , it's pretty irrelevant to his advice which is essentially how to run one on one sessions properly. He also gives some general campaign starting tips.

A familiar is fine, infact that's exactly discussed in those articles. I'd let the player control what it does though via commands etc though.
>>
>>53553672
This desu
So many posts are obviously bait poster trying to spur on off-topic arguments like 'Hurr, raycist!'
>>
>>53553663
>Nah cunt
Okay.

For reference, I am giving the 4E Monk a fist weapon that adds his martial die on top of his damage as one of the 4 elements of his choice, as well as giving a +1 to hit and damage, and doubling his total ki points.

I would be more likely to believe the shield is underpowered.
>>
>>53553460
Since it basically counts as a +7 weapon that also means the save DC is 7 times the usual DC.
>>
>>53553674
>A familiar is fine, infact that's exactly discussed in those articles. I'd let the player control what it does though via commands etc though.
I think they expect me to make an actual character though.

As far as I understand, they used to have the GM play a character much like they did, and it worked really well, until he got his character hooked up with a PC, and then the players hooked up, and...

Yeah, the usual story. But aside from that disaster, they liked having the GMPC. I'd just prefer having a... less human character to accompany the party. Like an intelligent animal or something.

Threads move slower at 330+ at 4pm than they do at 100 posts at 4am. Just fucking move on, we're not going to run out of internet and no one staring at the front page is going to notice that we have a new thread when the old one is only on page 4-5. Who gives a shit?

Mountain dwarves at least are largely the same. The main difference being that as dwarves age they become more stone like until eventually they petrify and their spirit moves on to the elemental plane of earth, or the appropriate plane if they worshipped a god. Most dwarves however practice ancestral worship and can commune with their ancestors through their ancestral statues. Hill dwarves are nomads that herd great beasts. Their ancestral statues form a path through the central planes and valleys of the western continent known as "The Homeward Path." Many settlements have formed around this so to make a living trading with the hill dwarves as they make their way through.

Under the 5e Sex Guide's revised rules for Prestidigitation, actually, that cantrip can be used to add 1d4 to Seduction checks. Like Guidance, basically, but with only the single use. Point being there's no reason for the bard to multiclass.
>>
>>53554318
Jesus fucking Christ, why the absolute fixation on that. Go out there and talk to girls.
>>
>>53553452
kill yourself
>>
>>53554169 >>53554318
Hmm. More to the point, the 5e Sex Guide also provides that a bard who satisfies partner(s) in bed can, once per long rest, grant himself (and the satisfied partners) 1 inspiration die, in an exception to the normal bard rules.

So the bard starts by having "warm up" sex to give himself that inspiration die, which persists for 10 minutes as normal. Thus when he tries to seduce Tiamat he'll have +1d4 for Prestidigitation and +1d6 for inspiration. The bard's ribbon ability can also allow him to grant himself advantage on seduction checks. Average result of 1d4+1d6 is 6.

So a 20th level bard with 20 Charisma, trained and expertise in Persuasion, has a Persuasion modifier of between 19-27, with it usually being +23. On a roll of 11 or better he hits that DC 34. And he has advantage on the roll, which means he has a better-than-50% chance of rolling at least a 15.

>>
>>53554169

Well...
A Bard would just cast Glibness, Enhance Ability and inspire one's self

So with Expertise, at level 20, that's a +17 right off the bat. He needs is another 17, which he has a 40% chance of getting before either Glibness or Bardic Inspiration comes into play, which is a d12

The check is basically a 5% chance of Failure, is what I'm saying

>>
>>53555503
Just because it has legendary actions wouldn't make it a legendary creature. A goblin boss definitely isn't "legendary," but a dragon, deity, or lich is. If there exists a goblin that did become "legendary" then sure, it gets a doubled difficulty class, why not? It probably wouldn't be that high in of itself anyway if it was a creature like a goblin.

Basically it's to stop ERP horny bastards from fucking their way past all problems. On the upside, if you actually make all the checks and snag a legendary creature in bed even with the doubled DC you're a literal fucking legend.
>>
>>53555444
Doubling them is a bit harsh, since it would make it essentially impossible - Tiamat would then have a seduction DC of 68, which I'm not certain is even possible to hit in 5e. She's also have a satisfaction check DC of 60, which likewise I think is outright impossible.

Mind, this might explain why she's so evil. Get it? Get why she's so evil? IT'S BECAUSE SHE HASN'T EVER HAD GOOD SEX.

Something more reasonable might be that creatures with Legendary actions get to add their proficiency bonus to Seduction and Satisfaction DCs, but this requires a fair bit of reverse-engineering stat blocks, something I wanted to avoid.

>>
>>53555638
I'm sticking by my guns that it should be a 100% increase to DC class. Raised by 50%, rounded up is my compromise.

Horny lore bard singing praises with the guidance and blessing of the deity of love is a thing. DM giving the players +5 items to seduction rolls, advantage spells listed in the pdf, and all kinds of other feats and traits would be a thing too.

Fucking a legendary deity like Tiamat should be sufficiently difficult. It's not impossible to make a 68 DC check. Just damn near impossible. You'd better git gud if you want to fuck a goddess of evil, you twats.
>>
>>53555503
>Here's an example
>It's a goblin that attacks twice
>Oh and its legendary actions are..
>Move

>Attack twice?
The multiattack shouldn't really be an option, it kinda defeats the points of legendary reactions spreading out the bosses turn over a round. Especially when multiattack is literally just two regular attacks unlike some creatures who, say, 'Use X and then attack with this and then attack with this'
>>

>in contact with the far realm
>possess psychic abilities
>control Thay with an iron fist
>own castles and banks all over the world
>direct descendants of the ancient royal blood line
>will bankroll the first cities on Athas

>keep the thri-kreen under wraps
>hold back the gods
>keep Drizzt Do'Urden a star
>own basically every research facility on Faerun
>first designer babies will be Mini Mystics
>all mystics said to have 200+ IQ
>ancient Calimshite scriptures tell of angels who will descend upon the Earth and will bring an era of enlightenment and unprecedented technological progress with them
>These are the mystics
>They own WotC R&D labs around the world
>You likely have scrying sensors inside you right now
>The Bogdanoffs are in regular communication with Bahamut and Tiamat, forwarding the word of the deities to their worshipers
>Nation states entrust their gold reserves with the twins. There's no gold in Mirabar, only Miramystic
>In reality, they are timeless beings existing in all points of time and space from the big bang to the end of the universe
>The mystics will guide humanity into a new age of wisdom, peace and love
This is the final redpill. There is no endgame. We are stuck in a revolving door, and only the mystics have the way out. They have, in a way, truly reached nirvana while we are stuck in the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.

>It's not impossible to make a 68 DC check.

I'm actually curious as to how this could be done...

First, our theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNM2kEBGiRs

Because we're not talking about any random Bard anymore, we're talking Mick Jagger.

So, 20th level, expertise in Persuasion. He's read the Tome of Leadership and Influence a number of times, so he's got a 30 Charisma (max), giving him a total Persuasion of +22.

Warm-up sex for an inspiration die gives +1d6, guidance of prestidigitation gives +1d4, which means as much as an additional 10 for a total modifier of +33. Multiclassing 1 level into Wizard gives Presto, which lets Mick Jagger cast a 9th level Bard spell to lower the 68 to a 59

But, right now we're sitting on a natural 20 of only 53, which is still 6 points shy of what's needed to seduce Tiamat.

Suggestions?
>>
>>53555780
>>53555787
eh, I'm not going to argue math, I'm only saying that magical seduction items like the Vibrator of Eros exist and will bump up their "to-seduce" modifiers.

50% is fine. Would put Tiamat to 51. I guess it's fine...

Honestly if you call yourself a "figther" and you're not the CHAMPION you need to pawn your weapons.
>>
>>53556855
1. Depends. EK and Battlemaster take difference roles. However, I'd likely say EK is just about more versatile enough that EK could be it if played be a suitably experienced player with stuff like EE cantrips.
2. Depends on level but likely between battlemaster and EK the EK will win due to having more AC and spells such as blur, mirror image or haste. In particular, EK would definitely win if they had a turn or two free beforehand to buff. Otherwise battlemaster does stand a chance since they have a good 1/2 round burst that would overcome even higher AC.
3. EK.
4. It's all shit.
5. Depends on player. I'd probably recommend battlemaster.

Champion is best if the DM follows encounter guidelines and you do a lot of fighting every day with minimal rests, and does have a place there, but it's an endangered place that almost never exists.

How apposed would a aasimar female be to advances from a tiefling warlock? I dont consider the character evil right now just incredibly misguided and a little unstable.

the tiefling in my group has a debilitating obsession, hes wondered for years what would happen if a tiefling mated with a aasimar. when i asked about the roots of this obsession he said that this likely stems from childhood trauma and that the motivation fueling it is exactly %50 sexual and %50 pure curiosity.

also what would be a interesting answer to his question if he accomplishes his goal?

its the fiend, Mephistopheles specifically.

the character grew up hustling for a living in a incredibly diverse yet corrupt city where you can find folks of almost every race as long as their not inherently evil savages like gnolls. one day saw a aasimar man being swarmed by admiring citizens and guards who where scuffling to get a look at him. seeing this made him angered him because the aasimer is welcomed with opened arms by strangers for his race and he is rejected and hated for his.

after that he spent nearly all his time and money researching his question and when he ended up broke, he went back to selling fake magic & rare items on the streets. he meet Mephistopheles in disguise when he tried to sell the archdevil a rock he polished and painted to look like a gem. the archdevil wasn't having it and gave the tiefling a choice between burning in hell forever or becoming his errand boy on the material plane. he choose the latter.

my next set of npcs are going to be mystics multi classed with another class so they have a variety of powers but all centered around a specific job (tank, DPR, utility, etc). I'm going for the X-Men vibe with them

Okay, this is what I've come up with:

Shrine of the Spiritual Vines
They'll be walking along the flooded rainforest and notice that the water level is suddenly rising at an abnormal speed. Drowned corpses will start to show up in the water, but their immediate danger is the flood. Moving along large tree roots, they'll eventually spot a shrine raised above the water level. It's a wooden building with no walls and covered in vines. They'll seek shelter there, but there's dangers: when they arive, a haze coming from some brassieres, which seemed harmless, actually makes them over-relaxed and causes their attacks to be weaker, and they're attacked by vines or other plant monsters. To stop these vines from coming, they'll need to extinguish the brassieres. This will not only turn the vines harmless, but also trigger a puzzle presented in wooden tablets that fall from the ceiling. Completing this puzzle will open a trap door and they'll receive thematically appropriate treasure. When they do get the treasure, however, the shambling corpses of the drowned will rise and attack the shrine. Defeating them appeases the spirits and the rains calm down, over the course of the next hours, the water level slowly goes back to normal, and the party can have a long rest in the shrine under protection from the spirits, waking up with 1d6 temporary hit points.

Alright /5eg/, my Lawful Good character has a moral dilemma.

>orcs raid the town
>thieves guild is on the loose
>town guard with vast resources does nothing
>be part of the town guard and is unsatisfied with the circumstances
>adventurer party intervenes and saves town
>party finds out that thieves' guild is behind much of the town's businesses
>go to guard captain; he basically says: "Don't bother."
>tell the mayor, he sends in the entirety of the town guard into the thieve's guild headquarters
>thieves' guild escapes, town guard mostly unharmed
>guard captain is angry because he made a deal with the thieves' guild so that they would protect the town as long as the town guard stayed out of the thieves' guild's way
>now he has fantasy cancer/AIDS because he broke the magical contract between him and the thieve's guild master
>currently on a quest to go retrieve a book and a priest to restore his health

As soon as the captain gets better, my character is going to arrest him on the count of conspiracy, collaborating with criminals, and endangering the security of the town. He acted outside of the law, and though with good intention, has ultimately robbed the town of its wealth. Is this the right thing to do?

>>53558610
Why 3x and not 4x?

Dash reads:
>W hen you take the Dash action, you gain extra

Depends on the wording
If the description of the item says that you can spend an action to cast a spell, you can't ignore the rules of spells

However, you're the DM, do whatever you want, just change the item, so it has the same effect, but not as a spell but as an ordinary action
>>
>>53558610
So does that mean a fighter with action surge could also dash 90 feet in one turn?

Anons? I'm working on an 5e Oriental Adventures setting and, as part of that, I'm doing a 5e kitsune race.

Now, I've shown it off here twice and both times anons reckoned the race looked pretty balanced, so I'm not so worried about that. But there's something related that I'm struggling with.

Pathfinder has a kitsune racial feat where you buy it multiple times and each time you do, you get a new tail & power: is there any way of converting that mechanic to 5e, given that 5e is a lot more careful about handing out feats than PF?

I took a shot at it in my early days, but the result was... pretty awful.

I was kind of thinking that a single feat that gets stronger as you level up is best? Or could I bake it into the race entirely that you get spells at levels beyond the classic 3rd and 5th? (Right now, it gets two cantrips at 1st level and Faerie Fire at 3rd level.)

>>
>>53559035
In general tails are usually both a signal of age and power, though it depends on which legend you take the fox spirits from.

Korea's version has it so when foxes get to a certain age, they gained 8 tails and magical power, so once you had all 9 tails you gained your power but until then you were just a normal fox
Japan's was that foxes just gained tails and magic as they aged, so depending on your age you would get more powerful and have more tails, peaking at 9

The end result is the same, but Japan's legends had them slowly gain power over hundreds of years while Korea's just got a massive spike

I'm not sure what China's legends are like but if I were to guess it'd be like Japan's

Let him die (maybe bring him a phony book and a phony priest to make it less obvious,) then start systematically exterminating every member of both the town guard and the thieves' guild. Both groups have innocent blood on their hands because of their role in the orc raid, down to the last man, and any just government would hang the lot of them. Unfortunately, this city doesn't have a just government, so you'll have to serve as a substitute.

So, basically, everybody thinks that since kitsune can take class levels, tails are better handled as some ribbon trait rather than as a racial feat to upgrade your spell-like abilities?

>Tells her that is a terrible idea, he is the main focal point of the campaign, and making him pissed is a good way to get thrown out of the town, and never get to meet the other players.
>She insists.
>Starts surveying his home.
>Tries to break in while he is sleeping.
>This can't end well.
>Sneaks into his bedroom
>God why.
>Tries to sneak up to him.
>W H Y
>H
>Y
>Rolls a 1 on her stealth
>Wakes him up
>Barbarian immediately overpowers her, wondering what the hell to do here
>Asks to roll persuasion
>For what?
>"I was just trying to steal your wedding ring. You shouldn't be holding on to it"
>Rolls 25
>Whelp, didn't expect that.
>Manages to soothe him, ends up spending the night (Nothing lewd though)
>Ends the session there
That went a lot better than expected.

Now her character will be introduced as "apparently having stayed the night at his place", so that's kind of awkward, but that gives it a good angle.

I also have a feeling the chick from my group was trying to set either me or her friend up, because damn, she acted like some awkward fa/tg/uy virgin.

The real question here is: what's the seduction DC for female kitsune?
>>
>>53558654
Arrest him.
Hand him over to the local lord for judgement.
Find a suitable replacement that is willing to be under a magic oath to prevent corruption.
Set up a few talented youths as spies for the local lord so he can suprevise the guards better.

Tell that to the short stack thread, there's even a guy writing wow erotic fanfic and I'd be lying if I said I didn't rub a couple out to it.

So far it involves a Gnome, a Goblin, an Elf and a panda thing as far as I can tell.
>>
>>53559499
Man, one time we raided a goblin encampment and killed a bugbear chief as the boss. We went into his bedroom and two naked female goblins were quivering, hiding in his bed. I thought the rest of my party was gonna get lewd. Thankfully we just told them to get lost. I think our DM wanted some weird fetish shit to happen

Kitsune are notorious whores so probably a 2.
>>

Yes.

Don't forget to play a Monk 1/Thief 4.

Max your Dex and Wis.

Bonus action heal everyone.

Kitsune
Ability Score Modifiers: +2 Charisma, +1 Intelligence
Size: Medium
Speed: 30 feet
Vision: Darkvision 60 feet
Foxfire: You know the Produce Flame and Dancing Light cantrips, which you can cast with Charisma. At 3rd level, you can cast Faerie Fire with this trait as a 1st level spell once per long rest, again using Charisma as your casting ability score.
Trickster’s Guile: You have Proficiency in Charisma (Deception).
Hengeyokai: Fox

Hengeyokai: You belong to a race of magical beasts that can assume partially or wholly humanoid form, as well as revert to your true bestial shape when it suits you. As an action, you can shift into any one of your three forms.

Hybrid Form is your default form. It functions as normal for a character.

In your Human Form, you gain Advantage on all Charisma (Deception) checks made to pass yourself off as human. It otherwise functions as Hybrid Form.

In your Beast Form, which is determined by your race, your game statistics are replaced by the statistics of the beast, but retaining your alignment, personality, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma scores. You also retain all of your skill and saving throw proficiencies, in addition to gaining those of the beast; if you and the beast have the same proficiency and the beast’s bonus is higher than yours, you use the beast’s bonus.

Changing shapes does not alter your current hit points, maximum hit points, or hit dice.

You can remain in any of these three forms as long as you wish, but must consciously choose to change shapes.

You can change shapes once at 1st level, twice at 5th level, and thrice at 11th level. You regain all expended uses of this trait when you complete a long rest.

If you have exhausted your uses of shapeshifting, you can revert back to hybrid form, but you cannot then change again into beast or human form.

Yeah, nah.
41 year old, she is 26, and I have been married, and had a girlfriend afterwards, neither worked out.

Pretty sure I'd rather have a good player, than shitty sex that will likely fuck it up later down the line.

If it's 25 miles apart what's the point of having a train? That's not a very long distance to travel honestly. You can walk that in less than a day. Even more-so a horse has this as its speed according to the almighty Google Scrying spell I just cast:

>"The gallop averages 40 to 48 kilometres per hour (25 to 30 mph). The world record for a horse galloping over a short, sprint distance is 88 kilometres per hour (55 mph). Besides these basic gaits, some horses perform a two-beat pace, instead of the trot."

So by horseback your crew should get there in about an hour, by carriage if they're pulling something weighted or traveling with a convoy maybe two or three hours at most?

Price: Ten or twenty times the price of a carriage. Whatever that is. Pretty sure it's in the PHB somewhere. Riding something technologically sophisticated should probably be expensive. Alternatively, cheap if the government is directly funding it as a mode of public transportation, but that'd clearly tie into a political background of some sort and would depend on your setting.

I kinda feel like a Kitsune and similar creatures should just be a Sorcerer Origin like the Dragonblood sorcerer.

If the area is mountainous, then 25 miles through well engineered tunnel is a lot safer than 50 miles over treacherous passes.

If the area has a lot of commerce, freight trains are far more efficient than horses.

Dragonmark style in 5e is literally "take a feat, you get X spell-like abilities, and you get more spell like abilities at levels Y and Z".

Which is more or less the approach I was going to go with in the first place...

It's appealing, but what spells should I have "5e Magical Tail" actually give, and at what levels? That's what I can't figure out.
>>
>>53559932
That's fair, I forget that /tg/ is one of the few places on 4chan that older guys frequent. No offense

"Horses seldom will gallop more than 1 or 2 miles (1.6 or 3.2 km) before they need to rest, though horses can sustain a moderately paced gallop for longer distances before they become winded and have to slow down.[12]"

C'mon, anon.

So I'm new to D&D and just lost my lvl 3 bard. Now I'm rerolling a dwarf cleric but can't decide which domain to choose out of light, life, or tempest. Which is the funnest and most helpful for a party?

yes, read what you posted
>Horses can travel upwards of thirty (and some, even forty) miles per hour. They cannot sustain this pace for long, though. A horse can gallop a couple of miles at full steam
>>
>>53560163
Sorry about your bard

Life clerics are cool but then again I enjoyed playing healers in MMOs
>>
>>53560101
Hmm... interesting idea... maybe each feat only gives you two tails, and thusly, if you want to get all the magics of a nine-tailed kitsune, you got to be willing to burn four feats on just pimping out your butt?

It's a bit of a feat tax, but it's purely optional, and certainly less so than the original "you need 8 feats to get full power" PF version...

>>53560190
That's what I meant, lad. I was conceding.

the greybeards are a useful resource on here. Their wisdom is invaluable, so that we can make the same mistakes they did in a slightly more entertaining manner.

1) The train runs underground because the roads above ground are surrounded on all sides by a forest the size of a state, and the forest can't be cut down permanently because it magically grows back unnaturally fast (there's a dedicated team of federal clearcutters that are constantly "shaving" the roads). Furthermore, there's weird shit in those woods. People don't want monsters or bandits jumping out at them while they travel.

2) The primary purpose of the trains is to carry massive amounts of lumber quickly from the north of the region to the south where it can be further exported, a feat that was only possible before with an impractical amount of oxen. The logging industries pay for a hefty amount of freight; passengers are a mere additional feature.

3) In-universe, the subterranean train is the pet project of the ruling plutocracy, but the common folk—who could never afford a regular train ticket anyway—have scorned it as a waste of their taxes. However, construction of the train and its tracks HAS created numerous jobs in the tunnelmine, so it's a very divisive issue.

3) The train actually skips most of the towns it runs under, further isolating the commoners. The industrialists wanted the most efficient freight possible and the ruling class wanted a way to carouse between important cities without traveling through the shittier, smaller hamlets. It's a very efficient mode of transportation but it only fuels the commoner's anxieties of being nothing but tax farms to the government.

It's just as much for transit as it is for potential plot hooks.

10 times carriage price sounds good, though. If the train can cover a day's travel in just one hour, then to go from the top of the line all the way to the bottom would take...
>Carriage: 2 weeks / 112 silver
>Train (x10): 14 hours / 110 gold

Light and tempest are both fun and good.

Though I was wrong about the first thing I'm glad I could somewhat help with the price.

Maybe play around with the price a little. Doesn't have to be exact. Maybe the guy who sells tickets is trying to "trick" the party into paying more than it's really worth. "160 gold pieces for a ticket, sweetheart," when he knows it's 110 gold. A little bit of flavor you can add to the train scenes.

Good luck.
