Cool thanks. Any rules?

>Stranglethorn Cannon does d6 shots. for every 10 models in a unit, the wielder gets +1 to hit. range 36"; S 7; AP -1; D 2

>Heavy Venom Cannon: range 36"; D3 shots *if i remember right* S 9; AP -2; D d3

>Adrenal glands add 1 to advance and charge range. Toxin sacs: rolls of 6 make 2d

>Rupture Cannon: S 10; AP -1; D d3; heavy 2. If it hits with both shots, they get AP -4; D d6. And if Tyrannofex stands still, all his weapons can fire twice

>Tyrannofex has T 8; 14 or 16 W

>Tyrannocyte can transport 20 infantry models or 1 monstrous Creature with max 14 wounds

>Zoanthropes: Warp Blast has become a special rule that makes smite spell do d3 additional mortal wounds *looks like all psykers have smite* Neurothrope makes zoanthropes regain d3 wounds when they kill with smite. Zoanthropes also cost 40 points now. if the unit is 4+ models, they can cast 2 psychic powers

>Maleceptor has T8; 14 wounds; armor save 3+. You can chose to use its own psychic power and it targets a number of enemy units depending on how many wounds it still has. Roll 1 dice for the enemy units: on a 1 nothing happens. on a roll of 2+ the enemy unit suffers a mortal wound

>Trygon: T 6; 14 W; movement 8

>Toxicrene: T 8; 14 W; 3+ armor save. One ability it has makes you roll a d6 for every enemy model within 1 inch. on a roll of 6, the enemy suffers a mortal wound
>>
>>53514750
>Zoanthropes can all warp blast for 2d3 mortal wounds

That seems terrifying

>Maleceptor deals 1 mortal wound to each nearby unit on a 2+

Meanwhile that seems pretty underwhelming. At least it seems more durable now
>>
>>53514750
The Maleceptor now has some utility. This is good.
>>

>Monstrous Scything Talons S: User AP-3 damage 3

>old one eye: 10w r7

>>
>>53514615
I haven't played since 4th but dusting off my nids in anticipation. Is this the cheapest genestealers have ever been??
>>
>mfw I sold off my nids earlier this year but i'm tempted to pick more up for 8th edition
>>
>>53514750
What made the Maleceptor so bad in the last edition and how has it improved?
>>
>43 point difference between tyrant and prime
interesting
>>
>>53515360
https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/Datasheets/MaleceptorEN.pdf

it's bad in every single possible way.
>>
>>53515502
Tyrants have more expensive options than Primes, there's a "Monstrous Bonesword" in the wargear list etc.
>>
>>53515360
It's more expensive than a Riptide while having a 4+ armor save and pretty useless psychic powers

>1/2 chance of getting 2 hits at s10 -4 d6

sounds good, where's the catch?
>>
>>53515653
The catch is that it's only AP -1 baseline, so if you target something big and miss one of the shots it'll be really mediocre
>>
236 Point Haruspex? What have they done to this sexy beast?
>>
>>53515360
Simply put, it was an overcosted MC with infantry speed and mediocre combat ability that paid a premium for a really underwhelming psychic power that drained Warp Charge faster than GW through your (parent's if underage b&) bank account.

Consider that to get a 2 WC power off, you must spend 3 WC for 50% odds. Attempting to use the power 3 times=9 WC. To get 50% odds of sniping a key model, you spent 5 WC per casting, for up to 15(!) WC.

For 30 points less, you could run a Zoanthroape unit with Neurothrope, which got a better Invulnerable save, and a better cover-busting power that also generated extra Warp Charge to still use your Warp Blast to blow holes in another unit.
>>
>>53514963
>haruspex
>W13 T8 S7(less if damaged)
>if it kills gains an extra attack and wound
>its claws are Sx2 ap-3 dd6
>upon death with a 6 it "explodes", inflicting 3 mortal wounds to an unit within 3"
>acid blood: each time it's wounded on a 6 it inflicts a mortal wound

>lictor
>3 attacks hit on 2+, s6, 4 wounds, 5+, gains +2 armour when in cover instead of 1, is hit with a -1 penalty, can reroll charge when deep striking
>>
>>53515888

they seemed to have really put a lot of buff on genestealers
not sure why, they were fine
>>
>>53516203
>they were fine
leaving the bait aside and biting around it, probably because they have a whole rather popular sub-army that should stand on thanks to them
>>
Now I just want a pyrovore/biovore kit, a shrikes kit and a lictor kit...k thanx
>>
>>53516244
wasn't bait, i never played 7th edition
they always had higher stat than most characters of other armies, and being cheap for it
>>
Remember the weapons cost need to be added to the model. those base costs are without weapons or any "stuff"
>>
>>53516248
>pyrovore/biovore kit with new weapon types: acid cutter for pyros and cluster mortar for biovores

>shrike kit gets you skyswarm rippers and the not!parasite of mortrex

>lictor has deathleaper bits and alternate unit of psychic manipulators

for fuck sake GW they sculpt themselves
>>
>>53515888
Regaining wounds and getting attacks should be on a 6 or something like Khorne Daemon Princes in WHFB otherwise it will literally never die in a fight against squishier units.
>>
>>53516502
Sure, but there's some solid improvements visible already. Warrior base 20 and Shrikes base 26 is excellent when BS+LS are this cheap
>>
>>53516535
and thats like the point of it
Giant maw, devours soldiers.
I love it.
>>
>>53514750
>maleceptor doesn't get an invulnerability save
oh well mortal wounds are all over the place anyway.

but jesus christ tyranids are looking so freaking good in general, I cant decide which big bugs to bring!
>>
I bought 300 bucks of nyds because of this edition. I basically stopped playing at 6th.
It feels just so good.
>>
>>53516502
>Implying warriors with bonesword + lashwhip and scything talons at 22 points is bad
>>
>>53516684
I really want to kit out a bunch of cheap close combat warrior broods now. 20-24 points for 3 wounds just rushing people down is going to be scary to deal with in large numbers
>>
>>53516768
good old CC warriors coming back !
to bad they probably won't have jumping and flesh hooks biomorphs
happy chirp noise
>>
>>53514638
>>53514750
>adrenal glands increase charge range
>charge out of deep striking is even more probable
41.66% of success isn't bad

I wonder if we have fleet-like rules allowing reroll.
>>
>>53516853
who needs flesh hooks when you always strike first on charge and lash whip is dirt cheap and makes them always strike first anyway?
also now that they dont get insta-popped by missile launchers, and tyranid prime being the cheapest HQ choice (likely making them hit on 2+ if he kept his old buff) I foresee warrior spam making up the core of a lot of nid armies
>>
>>53516902
The thought of the dice being on your side and your tidal wave a good 60% of your army into close combat in one turn.
>>
>>53516853
Flesh hooks are on the ranged weapons list, and for only 2 points they might do something pretty good, especially since they don't take up arm slots.

Also, we saw the rules for the Magna Grapple for Blood Angels, which was +2 to charge rolls against vehicles, and that's the same sort of deal where you fire a harpoon to reel something in. Flesh hooks might have a similar benefit against infantry.
>>
So, Carnifexes are viable now? What a time to be alive

Brb buying a squad of carnifexes and a trygon
>>
>>53515888
Haruspex seems way too good, it's gonna overshadow every other MC, especially in a drop-pod. bother with a Carnifex or Venomfex, etc

This is exactly why all the stupid bloated monster shit should have never existed, we have way too many and it's impossible to balance everything with the others.
>>
Freaky femanons the world over rejoice
>>
>>53517022
Carnifexes are dirt cheap at 87 a pop with dual scything talon and shit out mortal wounds on charge.
I think both will have their place
>>
>>53517113
Scything Talons seem shit on the carnifex now that it got nerfed to S6. Crushing Claws is best friend now.
>>
>>53517164
Its still extra attacks at AP -3, 3 damage
>>
>>53517022
Nid Monster list should have been:

>The HQ's

>Crone for anti-air
>Fex for smashing shit
>Tyrannofex for shooting. (and it's kit makes the Tervigon )
>Trygon Prime for tunnels and Synapse (fuck the basic Trygon no one cares)
>Mawloc for it's special attack
>Miotic Drop-pod for obvious reasons

All the rest are not only garbage-tier models (Haruspex, Maleceptor) they have no reason to exist and just bloat the codex. if they hadn't released all that rubbish we would have plastic biovores, lictors, etc by now.
>>
WTF? Why point values like 31 or 24? Gonna be hell trying to come up with lists that even out.

So, who are the big winners in the nid department this edition?

I feel like carnifexes are really solid and spammable now. Trygon seems also nice
>>
>>53517516
The Haruspex and Maleceptor are fucking gorgeous models bruv. If anythings bloating the Codex it's shit like Hive Crones and Harpies being two different flying creatures for no reason, or the Trygon vs Trygon Prime thing which I agree with you on, or needing to make a separate profile entry for Shrikes and "sky-slashers" even though they don't have fucking models yet and not just making Wings a simple biomorph upgrade.
>>
>>53517608
Warriors are dirt cheap and without ID they're pretty tanky, give them boneswords + lashwhip and scything talons and run those fuckers into melee.
Genestealers are ded killy if you can get them into melee, although 5++ is still squishy as hell

Biovore is a monstrous cheap anti tank artillery gun

Zoanthropes are cheap mind bullets turned up to 11

Carnifexes are cheap and spammable MC that will wreck shit

Hauruspex is rediculous because it basically cant die once it gets into melee

Swarmy is ded killy and makes your army even faster with hive commander.

Keep in mind that smite is pretty easy for your opponent to manipulate. It must always target the nearest visible unit within 18". So they'll absolutely rip apart armies composed entirely of elite stuff but anyone with access to fodder and/or the range to keep their expensive stuff back has much less to fear. Plague Zombies will be particularly good against Zoanthropes.

True, though I'd imagine you'd want your thropes babysitting something else anyway, so a squad of termagaunts nearby to help clear out any chaff would be enough to help them out.

Still great for focusing fire on hard targets, and even against those plague zombies you're still looking at a nice handful dying each turn.

So, why are warriors viable now?
Noob here
>>
>>53518723

also they're dirt cheap
>>
>>53518744

How much cheaper than before? I never played nids
>>
>>53518779
Warriors used to be 30 points base, now you can get them for as cheap as 20 if you push it, or just a few more if you give them a basic gun or melee upgrades.
>>
>>53518779
about roughly 3 fiddy

but seriously a similarly upgraded unit can look like they could cost half as much as before
>>
So what do my fellow anons think of Hormagaunts in this edition? Will they ever get to eat face again or am I just dreaming of a bygone age? So far without advance+charge they just seem to be able to move that little bit further (nicely into the enemy's rapid fire range) before sitting there for a turn, being shot at, then being charged themselves so that they lose the "strikes first" benefit.

Does rumoured Catalyst in this edition make them work like the speedy little beasts they used to be, even with the rule of one in effect?
>>
>>53518937
Onslaught gives Run+charge now, Catalyst is a 5+ FnP. Also we don't know the Hormagaunts full rules yet.
>>
>>53518971

Some vague ones out there, no scans, though.

That said, the edition itself already improved what they have:
>Charge has initiative
>Can always charge after shooting
>Twin-linked is more shots, not rerolls
>Ork handicaps toned down
>Vehicles more durable
>>
>>53519035
>and that's basically all they're getting...
dude, that's HUGE if you start grasping the ramifications

consider that you can reach close combat with enemy units that you didn't declare a charge towards with the pile in movement, meaning you don't get their overwarch too; you only have to reach contact with one gaunt with the unit you've charged and then display the hormagaunts in a line where they are closer to other enemy units than the one you've charged; once the combat phase kicks in they move 6" towards the closest unit and you'll have performed a charge against multiple units without getting all their overwatch.
regardless of whether you kill enough of them, they will either have to retreat (and not shoot) or stay in combat and not shoot

bless this mess
>>
>>53518026

I've been told their gun is now range 12''. But thats all so far.
>>
>>53518026
They don't seem all that better to me

they have 4 wounds now and their acid blood and their explosion upon death is actually designed to damage the enemy

they benefit from the general rules allowing them to advance and shoot with their assault flamer, on top of the armywide increased movement stat and slightly reduced point cost; the flamer has at least 10" with d6 hits at s5 and ap-1

I say biovores got way better since they literally rain mortal wounds

one thing though is that without templates and many units having rules focused on inflicting wounds with multiple damage or with no saves, I don't know where to go for a reliable anti horde; probably the usual wepons and the battleshock will do the job, but I see a high body count army having a place in the meta.

It doesn't matter that it's off-topic.

He said it was autistic screeching, and I am arguing that it's not.

He's presenting that post as a hysterical reactionary, which it is not.

Mohammad was a paedophile, and that has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but it is *not* "autistic screeching" to point out that Mohammad was a paedophile.

started painting them this way around 8 years ago and got somewhere between 8000 and 9000 points done.

At the end of your movement phase, a Tervigon can spawn Termagaunts.
If it does so, add a new unit of 10 Termagaunts to your army and set it up on the battlefield so that it it wholly within 6" of the Tervigon and more than 1" from the enemy.
All of these models are armed with fleshborers.
Alternatively, you can replace up to 10 models lost earlier in the battle in an existing unit of Termagaunts from your army that is within 6" of the Tervigon.
Models placed in this way must be within 6" of the Tervigon and more than 1" from the enemy.
You can only replace models armed with fleshborers. If you cannont place some of the models the excess is discarded.

Also, Synaptic backlash
If a Tervigon is reduced to 0 wounds, roll a d6 before removing the model from the battlefield. Each friendly <HIVE FLEET> Termagaunt unit within 6" of the Tervigon immediatly suffers a number of Mortal wounds equal to the result.

And the first rule lets you reroll 1s on shooting with nearby gaunts.
>>
>>53520752

i get the feel we can reinforce our exisiting squads
>>
>>53520731
is tervigons as troops kill?
>>
>>53520877
Yeah, if you have a unit of 30 termagaunts, you can just shove 10 back in every single turn.

Even if new squads aren't free, it should be easy to get a similar degree of value.

You'll have plenty of space for them, and you won't even be restricted by the number of termagaunt units.

>>
On the bigger chaff units this isn't really a major issue. Just avoid stacking monsters I suppose. But for the amount of times it is likely to be a problem, the benefit of stacking big hitters probably outweighs the risks of taking a few wounds
>>
Overall looks good, but we have to remember the 8th general changes hurt nids pretty bad.

MEQ will hit your dedicated melee units on 3+ instead of 4+/5+

Lasguns wound T6 on 5+ and T7 on 6+, bolter wounds up to T8 on 5+

Initiative is gone (and that was a major nid boon)

On the other hand, the new movement stat helps.
>>
>>53520988
>>53521118
Yeah, I think it's basically supposed to be the MC having siezures as it falls over and crushes things.

I think that's a good reason to just run your wounded nids headlong into the enemy though. If somebody kills it in close combat, it may just come crashing down on them.
>>
>>53521137
8th is good for swarms and assault.
Unless your idea of nids is 7th meta.
>>
>>53521137
>Lasguns wound T6 on 5+
>bolter wounds up to T8 on 5+

Those are both still hitting those at 6

Initiative being gone also is actually a bonus, since while Nids had good initiative, we had no grenades, so everything, even the giant skyscraper sized stuff, struck last if there was some rubble in the way.
>>
>>53520731

>>53521137

you got it wrong m8, you start wounding stuff on 6 once its toughness is double tour strength, not after that

you have to shoot the closest target in 8th, thats why I took 2x30 termagaunts instead of venomthropes, because 60 termagaunts that regenerate 10 gaunts every round is a lot to chew through to get to the rest of the army

also venomthrope is -1 to hit and not bonus cover save.

Real important shit, do winged tyrants have a minimum movement and can they charge non-flyers? Because i use the wings to move my meleerants across the table right now and it would blow if they were useless now.
>>
>>53524680
No minimum movement, and they can indeed charge flyers. However, they can also be charged normally.
>>
What do Monstrous weapons mean? is that just for the big girrblies? or does it have a different rule set?

Flyrants are like Heldrakes they have the fly keyword so they can assault ground and air targets, but not the airborne keyword so they can be charged themselves

>>
>>53518269
it'll probably be like crisis suit bodyguards.

if the character is within 3 inches and sufferrs a wound. on a 2+ the bodyguards take the wound instead.
>>
>>53525479
I remember seeing it on reddit. It had 40 wounds and started at s10.
>>
>>53525724
Shoot The Big Ones, newfriend.

But seriously, just give him Tyrant Guard.

Also consider a Winged Tyrant can now move 16" and charge, there's no more "Gliding" and "Swooping" and changing flight modes and restrictions on charging from doing so etc.
>>
>>53526141
Oh right and the psychic barrier 5+ invuln as >>53526086 said is a thing too.

And it can cast Catalyst on itself for 5+ FnP if you're really scared of your Tyrant getting picked out.

But I think my favorite part of the new Tyranids is that they play very much like the OLDSCHOOL nids now where you protect your stuff mainly just by having so many threats in your opponent's face right off the bat that they cannot afford to just focus all the fire on what the want to hit, if they don't try and devote some firepower to clear the onrushing hordes they're gonna get overrun.

It's fucking glorious.
>>
>>53521191
Lorewise, it wouldn't make sense as hormagaunts are one of the few tyranids that can reproduce relatively naturally rather than being spawned from a central hive.
>>
so, guys: are tyranids really tier 1 now? I've heard they're quite good now...
>>
>>53526545
No. Maybe high 2, but they're not strong enough for tier 1. That's still looking to be marines and eldar.
>>
>>53526704
from all leaked codexes to this moment, are any of them on par with nids?
>>
>>53526704
What are you talking about? We don't even have much leaked for Marines or Eldar and almost everything that made Marines tier 1 is GONE GONE GONE.

The reports coming out from stores where the leakers were able to playtest games with new rules today said Tyranids and Dark Eldar were the top winners, consistently.

The wings taking up a weapon slot now certainly ended that, as well as the fact that you no longer get the re-roll for twin-linked but keep the same number of shots unlike other armies twin-linked weapons.

Can't say I'm sad to see them go, though. I just wish they had a role that wasn't [exactly the same as the new deathspitters but worse for less points]

Just hearsay so it could be wrong. But there's no reason to think Marines are going to be particularly strong given the leaks we've seen.

So for 1 extra point per model, is adrenal glands now worth it on hormagaunts?
Was always honestly a huge fan of them, but they were never that great in 7th.
With up to 2 inches of extra threat range, do you think they'll be viable at all or is it too early to say?
>>
>>53530589
depends on if they get fleet or not, however i'd say they are worth it for genestealers
>>
>>53530589
It's worth it if you're planning to bring a unit in through a Trygon tunnel or Tyrannocyte and attempt a turn 1 charge.

>>53528058

So, dakkaflyrant seems still reasonable.

As in, he would be now a fast moving fire support who provides synapse instead of the only useful unit in the codex.
>>
>>53530893
A good dakka flyrant seems to be equipped with one biocannon and one pair of deathspitters with slimier faggots
>>
>>53530662
with the Onslaught power they don't even need the tyrannocyte/tunnel. They'll be moving M+2+3D6 inches in that turn to try reach combat.
>>
>>53530993
probably go the venom cannon and use his speed to "snipe" characters with high S D3 damage shots.
>>
>>53531311
I doubt you would be able to

the enemy just needs to sorround the guy with a single unit to counter the plan

honestly, the wings do sound more reasonable for a tyrant that plans to go in melee, or at least do both melee and shooting
a stranglethorn cannon on a tyrant shot against a horde hits on a 2+

if I planned to snipe characters I would use the mawloc or the maleceptor, since both can dish out mortal wounds on an area effect
