30th May in military history:

AD 70 – Siege of Jerusalem: Titus and his Roman legions breach the Second Wall of Jerusalem. Jewish defenders retreat to the First Wall. The Romans build a circumvallation, cutting down all trees within fifteen kilometres.
1381 – Beginning of the Peasants' Revolt in England.
1431 – Hundred Years' War: In Rouen, France, the 19-year-old Joan of Arc is burned at the stake by an English-dominated tribunal. The Roman Catholic Church remembers this day as the celebration of Saint Joan of Arc.
1434 – Hussite Wars: Battle of Lipany: Effectively ending the war, Utraquist forces led by Diviš Bořek of Miletínek defeat and almost annihilate Taborite forces led by Prokop the Great.
1510 – During the reign of the Zhengde Emperor, Ming dynasty rebel leader Zhu Zhifan is defeated by commander Qiu Yue, ending the Prince of Anhua rebellion.
1588 – The last ship of the Spanish Armada sets sail from Lisbon heading for the English Channel.
1635 – Thirty Years' War: The Peace of Prague is signed.
1814 – Napoleonic Wars: War of the Sixth Coalition: The Treaty of Paris (1814) is signed returning French borders to their 1792 extent. Napoleon is exiled to Elba.
1868 – Decoration Day (the predecessor of the modern "Memorial Day") is observed in the United States for the first time.
1899 – Pearl Hart, a female outlaw of the Old West, robs a stage coach 30 miles southeast of Globe, Arizona.
1913 – The Treaty of London is signed, ending the First Balkan War.
1941 – World War II: Manolis Glezos and Apostolos Santas climb the Athenian Acropolis and tear down the German flag.
1942 – World War II: One thousand British bombers launch a 90-minute attack on Cologne, Germany.
1967 – The Nigerian Eastern Region declares independence as the Republic of Biafra, sparking a civil war.
1972 – In Tel Aviv, Israel, members of the Japanese Red Army carry out the Lod Airport massacre, killing 24 people and injuring 78 others.

battle-of-lipany-1024x643.jpg

It is 583 years since the Battle of Lipany (in Czech: Bitva u Lipan, also called the Battle of Český Brod) was fought at Lipany, 40 km east of Prague, and virtually ended the fifteen-year-long Hussite Wars. An army of Utraquist nobility and Catholics, called the Bohemian League, defeated the radical Taborites and Orphans (or Sirotci) led by Prokop the Great, the overall commander, and by Jan Čapek of Sány, the cavalry commander.

The radicals had set up a Wagenburg on a strategically advantageous hill, and both armies stood against each other for some time. An attempt by the Utraquists to negotiate and resolve the conflict peacefully failed due to irreconcilable positions of the two sides. Three days after the unsuccessful negotiations, the Leaguers advanced to the radicals' encampment; although the following mutual cannonade was harmless due to distance between the two armies, to the surprise of the radicals the Leaguers began to retreat with all their wagons.

Thinking that the enemy was fleeing, the radicals' commanders opened the Wagenburg to attack the Leaguers' formation, not knowing that the retreat was a trick to draw them out of the Wagenburg. As the radicals approached the Leaguers' army, the Leaguers stopped and began to fire from their wagons. At the same time, the Leaguers' heavy cavalry, which had been hidden near the radicals' camp, undertook a surprise attack from the side and penetrated into the open Wagenburg. The radicals' army quickly collapsed and the commander of the Orphans' cavalry, Čapek of Sány, fled with all his men to the nearby town of Kolín.

The battle now changed into a massacre of the lightly equipped radical forces. Both Prokop the Great and Prokůpek (Prokop the Lesser) were killed, holding "the last stand" at the wagons. Some prominent leaders of the radicals were captured, but about 700 ordinary soldiers who surrendered after promises of renewed military service were burned to death in nearby barns.

As a consequence of the battle, the Taborite army was markedly weakened, and the Orphans virtually ceased to exist as a military force. The road towards acceptance of the Compacts of Basel was now open, and it was signed on 5 July 1436 in Jihlava. The next month, Sigismund was accepted as King of Bohemia by all major factions. Sigismund commented on the Battle of Lipany that "the Bohemians could be overcome only by Bohemians."

The last formation of Taborites under the command of Jan Roháč of Dubá was besieged at his castle Sion near Kutná Hora. It was then captured by Sigismund's forces, and on 9 September 1437 Roháč, still refusing to accept Sigismund as his King, was hanged in Prague. With the wars officially over, many Hussites were now hired by the same countries whom they had sacked during their "spanilé jízdy" or "beautiful rides" - their version of the chevauchee.

The Hussites are a fascinating choice for a wargaming army, what with their wagons, firearms, and burning fanaticism. They are well-represented across a number of systems and tend to be one of the most effective forces you can field. Their popularity also means a broad selection of avaliable miniatures across all scales.

Sorry for the late reply, but Ostfront would work fine. Its pretty simple and gets the job done.

Rapid fire is another option, although its a bit more complex iirc.
20mm is a great scale for getting into WW2 gaming though - many cheap minis and wide variety.

I'm not sure, those were just hills from the club. My guess is carved polysyrene on a cardboard or MDF base, textured paint or sand applied with PVA, then painted - base coat and light drybrush.

Question:
So I read some of the last kingdom books years ago and I always wondered how realistic the whole shieldwall thing was and if there are any games the represents shieldwalls well. It sounds really boring for a game, as both players have equal amounts of guys woth shields and they just line up to hit each other..

Foundry have a Lewis gunner in their Home Guard Heavy Weapons set. Also they're a common item with LRDG minis, if you're going to be playing North Africa.
>>
>>53507643
Dux Britanniarum has shield walls, but only for the Romans I think.

It can be interesting and not boring, flanking and taunting that draws enemies out of formation are real possibilities to break a formation.
>>
>>53509415
Battlegroup rules are indeed pretty solid, I like them. There's a few quirks and gaps, but most can be resolved by checking official forums or Dispatches #2, which had a big faq & errata section and can be found on the net.

Only real discussion we had was about the sense of observation rolls before aimed fire, which seem a lot more logical if you actually read the rulebook, which also has their reasoning behind the rule (which in itself I find rather charming).

FoW basing is fine with Battlegroup without any conversions, just might need to mark casualties with dice or add a few single miniatures if you don't have the right amount of anything.
>>
>>53510260
DuxBrit doesn't have Romans, unless you mean Romano-British.

Also both sides in the base book (R-B and Saxons) get shieldwalls
>>
>>53509415
Great game. Only suggestion, since too many people seem to have a problem with it, is don't bother allocating ammo to AP/HE pre-game, just count ammo during play and use the appropriate type.

FoW models convert over very well. If you have plenty of FoW 3-, 4-, and/or 5-man teams then modelling a few 2-man and/or individually-based infantrymen is useful, plus casualty counters.
>>
>>53508553
>I think SAGA handles it in some detail

Not really - some of the factions get some defensive abilities on their battleboards to represent shieldwalls, but that's all.

SAGA is really more of a thematic game than a historical game, but it still holds a very high place in my heart.
>>
Does anyone play Hail Caesar?
>>
>>53511413
I think of it this way, if you and your mates/club want to put together a detailed recreation of, say, the Battle of Stamford Bridge, maybe don't use SAGA.

If however, you've had a long day and just want to drink some beers, throw some goddamned dice and have viking fights, it's perfect.

Not many. Played years ago, but it's truly a lite system with no depth (like BP and P&S). Plus it's somewhat badly written.

Perhaps, but it's pretty popular theme in wargaming nonetheless. I had the old 1/72 "Fort Sahara" box from Airfix with FFL and Arab raiders, and we used to play the classic "hold the fort to the last" scenario with regularity at my club.
>>
Been thinking about starting with Battlegroup, i think i will go with 2 armies (german and brits) because i have no one near to play with and want to play 45 and be backwards compatible. Think ican convince one of my friends to play one if the armies. So question: where do i get cheap minis when i live in germany? Also which scale and any paint guides for untalented fucks like me?
>>
>>53532788
My dearest anon! Death in the Dark Continent was just re-released, it's in the OP too, it has lists for the earlier FFL, but it's still there!
>>
>>53533090
If you want to go cheap, you can't go wrong with 1/72.
>>
>>53533090
15mm is a good scale, lots of WW2 stuff made in that scale thanks to Flames of Wars popularity.

If you're playing brits and have any interest in universal carriers, Plastic Soldier Company has a box with 9 of the things for a little over 17 pounds. Shipping doesn't look too bad to the UK as well.
>>
>>53533090
Go to Plastic Soldier Review, periods, WW2, check which box do you like, and grab those along with a can of Plastidip.

In 1:72 I can recommend:
British:
- Caesar British army x2 for the infantry
- HaT British Mortars and Machine Guns, 1 of each for every heavy weapon needs
- PSC's Sherman M4A4 and Firefly box. If you have a mouldbro, he can make extra running gear and lower body so you can make 6 tanks out of the box, but otherwise 2 M4A4 and 1 Firefly is what you'll need
- Any two Caesar later German box - Panzergrenadiers looks the best usually. Alternatively, 1 box of PSC's German infantry.
- 1 box of PSC's German heavy weapons, OR Armourfast's German Machine Guns and Mortars box, one of each
- 1 box of PSC's Pz IV.

This will give you two nice big forces to play late war battles with, for probably less than 50 Euros sans postage. PSC likes to do sales, or check Modelhobbies, Hannants, or your favoured hobby shop. As to expanding them:
- AT guns: PSC does a nice 6pdr box with two guns and two tows plus lots of crew. For Germans, Italeri has a nice Pak-40 box.
- Armoured Cars: Brits don't have much in plastic, grab a Ready-to-Roll Humber IV, Staghound or whatever you fancy from Rapid Fire's site, or check Early War Miniatures. For Germans, Italeri did some of SdKfz 234s, Roden did a ton, ICM has some 222s, there are plenty of them around.
- Arty: PSC's 25pdr for the Brits, if you can find that, Revell's 105mm for the Krauts, really lovely kit. If you can't, then Armourfast's 105mm guns.

Think that's all if you want to start in 1:72, will post my two lists for BG.

agreed with the other anon. 1/72 is cheap as hell and usually available at your local toystore or model store. Especially WW2. You should be able to get a box of 1/72 german and british infantry as well as a few tanks and vehicles per side in any decent toy store.

As for painting, undercoat them with white spraypaint - the tamiya ultrafine white primer is very nice. Then just paint the basic colors of the miniature, make them a bit brighter than the final color you want. Use ospreys or google image searches for reference.
Then just brush the whole thing with a bit of nuln oil (available from any games workshop store) and you're done.

Brits (495 pts, 33 BR):
- 3 men forward HQ in White Scout Car (from Italeri - not easy to find nowadays, alternatives are available)
- Motor Inf. Platoon (all in M5 Halftracks, PSC), PIAT team, Medic, Vickers, medium mortar, 6pdr gun
- Tank platoon, 2x M4, 1x Firefly
- Forward observer in Daimler Dingo
- off table mortar
- 1 Daimler Armoured Car (I think from Hasegawa)

Germans (494 pts, 30 BR)
- Forward HQ in Kübel (Italeri did/does a box with two of them)
- Grenadier Platoon w/ HMG, medic, PShreck, medium mortar, Pak 40
- Tank Platoon: 3x Pz IV G
- Forward Observer in Kübel
- off table mortar
- 2x Snipers
- 2x SdKfz (if you don't mind old models, Airfix does a 222+Kübel box)
- 88mm gun (Zvezda or Italeri)

Hope this helped. You should probably start with smaller armies, one platoon per side or so.

Yep, 1/72 is a great scale to begin Battlegroup with.

Living in Germany you can buy at one of the many online retailers (Fantasyladen, Battlefield Berlin, Modellbauversand Hanke, etc.) or check if there isn't a shop in your area. Ordering from the UK also isn't that expensive, most of the time.

If you're just starting out and want to know about the quality of certain miniatures you can check Plastic Soldier Review or one of the other review sites (easy googling).

Also check for local wargaming clubs, I've been pleasantly suprised. Having two armies and thus being able to "pull someone in" is a definite bonus, though, even if you find one.

Since you're in Germany, the home of every model train maker ever, go for flea markets and look for H0 scale buildings. Most railway stuff fits pretty nicely with WW2. Other than that, Sarissa has some affordable laser cut terrain you can take a look at.

As a fellow german i can recommend using ebay as a source for minis in 1/72. There are plenty of smaller traders offering tons of nice 1/72 stuff.
You also might find Revell minis in your local Kaufhof or any other store with a toys section.

Is French Foreign Legion a game, or do you just mean figurines of FFL soldiers of that era in general? Because the FFL fought in every major war France has been involved in since 1830 and pretty much every colonial conflict. In WW2 FFL regiments fought both for Vichy and the Free French (their shining moment of glory being Bir Hakeim, which Churchill deemed instrumental for the victory at El Alamein). FFL figurines could really shine in a WW2 African campaign.

Bit of an obscure request but does anyone know where to find information on the ships, particularly military vessels, of Maritime South-East Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines and so on)?

For a set of maritime civilisations who were hugely important in the global spice trade and used ships quite distinct from others in the wider region it's remarkable to find so little about the ships beyond the use of outriggers.

Ideal dateline would be c1-1000AD but I'll take anything before European influence shows up in the designs.

Turn 2. More moving forward a bit. The Milicianos reload on their activation, and a command point is then used to have them fire at the Boucaniers (needing 10s). They miss every last shot. A fortune point is spent to reroll this (they're now up to 16 missed shots). And every shot misses AGAIN. Everything else moves up, the brethren marineros choosing to go prone (a fateful decision). The Forlorn Hope fire their buccaneers guns at the (spanish) marineros with the enemy commander, score a 10, and kill one sailor (and 1 fatigue is gained for that unit). Finally, the closest spansih marinero unit begin a death or glory charge against their evil brothers.

Turn 3.jpg
2MB, 3264x2448px
>>53550527
Turn 3. First activation: spanish Marineros (s.M), who charge the prone brethren marineros (b.m). The b.m. tries to do a defensive attack with their pistols, but the spaniards charge through the bullets with not even a scratch, and the pirates are cut down to the next to the last man (last man standing routs, by dint of being only one man and having 4 fatigue). The Forlorn Hope next to them tries to react and toss a grenadoe into the charging enemy, but it misfires on a roll of 2. A fortune point is used to try and change the tide of fate, but the reroll is also a 2, and the grenadoe goes of in the hand of a poor Forlorn Hope, killing him and a comrade. The boucaniers fail to do anything useful, and are then the recipients of a 12" Lancero charge. 2 frenchies die on the lances. The freebooters advance and fire onto the victorious marineros. 3 fall to the hail of bullets, but they stand fast and only gain 1 fatigue. The Spanish commander and his bodyguards advance. The militianos, having reloaded on their own activation, then fire in the direction of the enemy on the commanders orders, presumably trying to scare away the pirates with loud noises (because they sure as hell weren't trying to actually hit anything).
>>
>>53550533
Turn 4 (where I forgot to take a picture), the commander and his marineros activate first, charge into the forlorn hope (through light pistol fire) and cut them down like dogs. The Lanceros get a command point and finish gutting the boucaniers. Freebooters reload and gun down a few more marineros. The Lanceros then do another 12" charge and start gutting freebooters.

>>53550544
Turn 5 contains 1 activation, the lanceros. Who gut down freebooters until only the commander is left standing, with 6 fatigue. We're not quite sure if he yielded and is captured (and soon hanged as a pirate), yields but is cut down by crazed lanceros, or goes down fighting until the sword is too heavy to lift. In either case, these pirates will not bother the spanish again, by dint of being dead to the last man.
>>
>>53550553
All in all, the rules are simple and elegant yet detailed and tricky enough to be fun.

We made only one major mistake (which wouldn't have affected the end outcome), a unit that moves more than 8" during its activation gets a point of fatigue (and I did 3 such crazed dashes).

Going for a "skeleton" force of Alexandrians, using blocks from it to make Seleucid/Ptolemaic from Diadochi Wars era up till Antiochos III.

Also hoping Victrix will either release a Thureophoroi/Thorakitai set, or else do the weapon sprues to convert existing figs into them. Thureos infantry and cataphracts are pretty much the biggest diff between early/late successor iirc.

What is your take on "Romanized infantry" for Antiochus IV? I lean toward the "they were just Thorakitai"/convergent evolution camp, but that doesn't mean that there being 5,000 of them at the Daphne parade wasn't in some way related to experience with the Romans...

The Bolt Action campaign finally begins!

Spring and Summer, 1939. Fittingly, the US player didn't show up. Britain expanded to take Paris and Dublin. Germany took Amsterdam, Vienna, and Warsaw. The Finns took Leningrad and are marching on Oslo. The Soviets sent forces to claim their far-flung cities and sent a force to relieve Leningrad: This will be the first battle of the campaign.

Since the Germans took a Tech Center, they're allowed to field one unit or upgrade which had not been introduced until the Mid-War period. German player selected the Panzer 3

For anyone curious, the rules we're using are found below: They're a modified version of the Ostfront campaign rules found in the OP's links

>>
>>53568208
Each of our games focuses on the critical engagement that decides the entire square. The point is to provide a framework and narrative to the games of Bolt Action we'd be playing anyway rather than to accurately refight history.

>>53568241
Oh yeah, just checked with him, he's taking the Ausf. N
>>
>>53568294
Oh I get that part, but what about a campaign map that's scaled down? Not to sound like I'm bitching - I'm just brainstorming how you would represent that and have it interplay with the tabletop game.
>>
>>53568208
Not that guy but usually the tabletop battle on a map campaign campaign like this only represents a small portion of the actual force (a tiny portion in BA's case) - hence why players usually aren't restricted to certain OOBs for their forces - they would have entire regiments or divisions to draw forces from so almost anything is possible.
The actual tabletop battle could be considered a pivotal action in the chosen battle, and so would explain the effect of the smaller skirmish battle on the larger campaign map.

I mean, come on, who doesn't want to put their tabletop games into a larger scale war and have a map and fun colored pins. It also allows you to have unbalanced battles - its quite unrealistic to have endless battles where the points are dead even. With the map campaign each battle has a purpose - "I Have to hold off this larger force and inflict as much damage as possible before, so when my main force turns up they have a better chance" for example.
>>
>>53568323
We could've done it over, say, France, but the fact that our group had those five factions represented dictated that we had to spread it over most of Europe plus a reasonable place to add the US.

Anyway, first battle: 600 points of Finns defending agains 500 points of Soviets, in an urban map. I think my Finns will have a major advantage in urban fighting because the KP-31 has already been introduced, but the Soviets haven't got the PPSh-41 yet, so I don't have to worry about SMGs.

4 M16s and 5 SLRs. I think some were issued M16s anyway (fireteam and platoon leaders IIRC, the Ambush Valley book has normal ANZAC platoons listed, and it has a bunch of M16s listed), plus they said they'll make a whole range with probably more Aussies to come.

I'm really hyped about this range - sadly there's only three kits in plastic for figures, but these seem compatible with them. Lots of plastic kits, plus ACE released some lovely Centurion Mk. 5/1s - what's missing is the M113s with the Cadillac-Gage (or Cage?) turrets.

Australian Vietnam-era infantry rifle sections had a scout group (2 with M16's), a gun group (GPMG M60 and FN-FAL) a command group (2x FN-FAL) and a rifle group (3-4 with FN-FALs' plus 66mm SRAAWs and an M79 grenade launcher).

Oh and Cadillac-gage is correct (30 cal and 50 cal). Interestingly, there was a difference in equipment and doctrine depending on whether your section was infantry or mounted infantry in M113's (aka Light Horse). Light horse had section leaders with M16's not SLR/FN-FALs, because they dismounted into immediate assault and needed full auto for suppression.

Fireball Forward is an innovative rules set for re-creating company-scale engagements in WWII using tabletop miniatures from 15mm to 28mm scale. The game is easily learned, fast-playing, and above all it emphasizes story elements of the battle so that the narrative which emerges has a natural feel of a historical written account. Attention is focused on active units, and the full story of each activation is followed until a natural break point is reached, similar to the end of a paragraph in a historical memoir. The game turn has no fire phase, rally phase, etc., but instead, active units may fire, move, rout & rally in any order as needed to develop their plan. Non-active units play an important role at all times, looking for opportunities to derail the active plan. Fireball Forward is playable on a kitchen table in one evening, and it's designed to challenge players with realistic tactical choices, resulting in a satisfying game for everyone.

Johnny Reb III is a game of Grand Regimental tactics of the American Civil War, using miniatures from 10mm to 25mm.The game comes with rules set and 4 Reference cards for 15mm miniatures. There are other reference cards available for the other scale miniatures for extra cost. Players will have to supply their own miniatures and paint them. Some scenarios are available for purchase but the fun of the game is researching your own battles from the ACW period to recreate.

Are there surviving rules for Kriegspiel and/or Little Wars?
>>
>>53586269
Yes. Little Wars can be had from various places, might even be in the OP folders, and is still a great read because of the tale of how the game was developed. Kreigspiel, I think there's versions of it still in print.
>>
>>53586269

Little Wars over here: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/3691

Original Kriegspiel, OTOH, I'm interested in myself ...
>>
>>53586269
Floor Games and Little Wars are very easy to find. There are several versions of what is called "Kriegspiel", but Two Fat Lardies do a reprint of the 1824 von Resswitz edition, which is the earliest one, so you can check that out.
>>
>>53586401
Original Kriegspiel I've no idea, but I know the lighter version of Kriegspiel which basically everyone used past the mid-1800s.

It really just takes a d10, two players and an umpire. The umpire decides what information the players have and how much time it takes to do something. The d10 is used for percentages.

For example, if you're fighting a battle in, say, horse and musket, you may want to try and move some of your artillery from the right to the centre to bombard your enemies, but do that from cover so your opponent has no information. So you send that message to the umpire, and he decides it takes 20 minutes to get the results (say, there's an 20% chance you get spotted and the bombard doesn't do much, a 20% chance you don't get spotted but the bombard doesn't do much, a 20% chance you get spotted but the bombard has strong effect, and a 40% chance you don't get spotted and the bombard has strong effect). He then gives the appropriate info to you and your opponent. So, for example, you don't know you've been spotted, but your opponent knows that you've weakened your right and strengthened your centre, and now he has to decide what to do - try and press the advantage in the right or strengthen his centre to deal with the incoming attacks.

It's quite interesting, but goddamn is it difficult to manage if you're the umpire. Great for basically anything, though, and I love the simulation of fog of war.

>>53585657
Not really. I would use something like Traveller with excellent gunfighting, equipment, stats / damage, beasts and initiative.
BA would technically work, but imo for a STALKER game you want it to be more RPG with 1 - 4 PCs, customizing weapons, picking up things from corpses, dealing with anomalies, dealing with NPCs, and a bit of combat.

There are a few STALKER rulesets out there in varying degrees of quality. PDF related is one of them. Check the PDF share thread, should have the rest. One was a savage worlds supplement which looked pretty decent.
>>
>>53587316
I saw it on a site that is horribly buggy nowadays, but the main issue with it is that while you can technically transport it to a computer, you will have to overwhelmingly limit yourself, which is one of the things that doesn't help one of Kriegspiel's strength which is being more about freeform than anything else. Now this is just an effect of how computers work, but effectively it moves from something like FATE to GURPS. You become overwhelmingly precise, and thus you have to be overwhelmingly precise and write the situations possible.

It's not bad but it's a lot more work than it seems.

That's a pretty good book. The one I'm trying to get a copy of is Tackle Model Soldiers This Way, it has a couple of neat lighter-than-usual Featherstone rulesets (that I've already got photos of, I just want the book).

Still haven't found a game I like for ancients/fantasy that's in a similar style, unfortunately - some of the bath rules come close, but don't quite do it for me. Fortunately there's Delta's Book of War, which is more accurately a simulation of OD&D (1974) than history, but gives a nice super-light game with individual toy soldiers organised into groups.

I mostly use ancient/medieval rules for fantasy, and just throw on a totally unrelated magic system as desired, also giants are elephants, wizards without a proper magic system are artillery or casters or just used to buff a unit from generic to elite, and dragons are elephants that can fly and have artillery

You can either go for 1:72 (20mm) or 1:48.
The smaller scale is usually used for planes to depict them as flying high above the board so they are smaller to the eye from the ground.
1:48 helicopters tend to be pretty big.

>fragile

You can take a regular scale kit and build it more durable by replacing or just leaving off fragile parts. You probably want to replace the rotor by a clear disc to make it look like its turning. (see pic)

Revell does a Hind in 1:48 for around 20€. Maybe you can find it even cheaper.

In 1:72 you have a few more options (hasegawa, hobby boss and revell) for around 15-30€ (since you want to use it for gaming, i'd go for the cheaper ones since interior details and stuff like that won't matter in that case).

There were some very nice tables and miniatures there, of note was a lovely Finnish force for FoW, and a Wild West table completely scratch built for 20mm games, as well as a bunch of 20mm gunslingers (and mariachi bands and whores...) playing some game downloaded from the internet 20 years ago. I wish I could remember the name! The guy had really superb terrain, hand painted signs, crates made from cardboard with more strips of cardboard for detail. Really exceptional.

There was also some 20mm Napoleonics (playing WRG rules), dystopian wars, a kings of war tournament and a FoW tournament, as well as the usual 40K (RIP WHFB - which used to have a strong tournament following at these conventions).

A photo of the wild west table. Every building was this detailed and there was something like 20 buildings, all modular to allow different town set-ups.

Everything is hand-built and hand-painted - even the signs.

but seriously, tmp is a depressing mess because there is some good stuff there, it's just crushed under the editor's many, many issues.

at least the frothers thread's good for a laugh

So I wrote a thing. It's supposed to be a pretty simple exploration of medieval battles in 10mm with multi-based figures.

Core rules are done, want to get them tested and then I'll start adding in scenarios and campaigns and shit.

If you feel like trying it out, the Battle of Blanchetaque is included as a scenario. Everything's costed out so matched pitched battles are also possible, but hopefully the final set will be more objective focused.

All right. So I wasn't able to find any Irish banners, so I threw together my own. It will probably be temporary, but I hope that it works out. Will use scissors to crenelate the edge there to make it look nicer.

The new rules General d'Armee any good? And is there a pdf available on here?

If your wanting it to be a bit more 'accurate' the green should really be St. Patrick's blue.

Question for Bolt Action - do I have to assign transports to units when writing a list?

Like, let's say I'm building a list that includes a squad of infantry with SMGs, a heavy howitzer, and a truck. If I'm playing one of the gametypes where units don't start on the board, I want to use the truck to tow the Howitzer - else it can't move at all, so it can't come on. But if I'm playing on defense, I want to start with the howitzer on the board and run the SMG squad in the truck so they can get up and wreck face. Is this allowed?

Kind of thinking of taking an evening to run some Kriegspiel through email, that ought to be interesting. Either a new scenario or a reenactment of a battle. I'm not sure about which period and scale, however - Kriegspiel can run theatre-level operations to borderline skirmishes and fit anywhere.

What about rules that cover larger periods than your organisation allows, or short conflicts over the border of two periods?

Noob to historical here, trying to try stuff other than FoW for 15mm wwii.

I've currently played IABSM which I really like... despite really struggling to find games.

What would tg suggest to try next? I've been through the sticky and there are quite a number to choose from.

>Pic related, IABSM is a great game, but this board sucks!
