I hate it, I think it looks like someone looked at Ed-209 and said, "Hey, let's merge it with a 40k dreadnought and make it even more top heavy!" It looks like a medieval army could beat it because a lucky hit with a catapult will topple it.
And I know it's the skinny, long legs too, the regular dreadnought's stubby legs worked for it because it gave it a far lower center of gravity.
>>
>>53490392
Give the CAD designers some slack guis.... drawing new stuff is hard... might as well just tweek someone else's work
>>
>>53490353
It looks easier to knock over than the classic boxnaught, it stole guns from the Tau, and it skipped both ab and leg day.

But it does skip the dumb exposed head thing GW has been pushing since the Venerable and is pretty beefy in the torso.

It looks like someone took the orihginal Dread design (which is a pretty great design) apart and shoved some extra bits in to fill out the space.

To me, the 40k aesthetic feels watered down as a result, which is a problem I have with a lot of the Primaris stuff.

Yes.

Dreadnaughts have been changing all the damn time just as the mysterious "40k aesthetic" someone was blabbering about here earlier.

There is nothing wrong with the new dread's design and it fits the setting much more than a useless brick that was the previous one.
The models are getting more detailed every few years, the only thing different is you and your noob ass that wasn't around when it happened last time.
Fact is, this has been the standard Dread for a while now (pic related), it just didn't start with the marines.

This, basically.
Design paradigms constantly change, usually every 3-4 or so.
>>
>>53490353
I think it's great. Sure, there's a few minor nitpicks, but overall I think it's a better looking dreadnought than everything except the Leviathan dread. That thing is in a class all its own.

>>
>>53492021
So does the primaris dread, with some adjustments.
The only real difference is they widened the body into a more angular visual.
Really, the new model lines are a way for GW to bring a tighter sci-fi look to marines, a more primordial look to chaos. I bet Tau will have a stronger gundam look and Elves more sleek/bedecked.
>>
>>53491809
it must be weird having a Helbrute among the Loyalists

The Space Marine video game did a decent job convincing me it could.
>>
>>53492057
>Really, the new model lines are a way for GW to bring a tighter sci-fi look to marines, a more primordial look to chaos.
That's my problem. I don't much care for a tighter scifi look for Marines; there's plenty of scifi out there; I don't need 40k to go that route as well.
>>
>>53492064
The point is said Hellbrute is clearly not the DoW1-era Dread and if you compare it with the Primaris one, you get an identical machine.
Chaos is responsible for the additional appendages, not the metal which is a Primaris Dread-like base.

Basically a mid-update paradox where the loyalists were still using the old design while the Chaos that got the new mini first was already using corrupted version of the new loyalist design.

Those feet should not be able to keep all that bulk from toppling over, also smaller feet means that it puts more pressure on each step causing undue stress to the legs and whatever the dreadnought stands on. I could easily see this thing getting a foot stuck in concrete, snapping its knee and falling face-first.

though, that was back when all walkers were referred to as dreadnoughts (killa kans, wraithlords), and before they established dreads as being driven by dead marines. I guess there will have been an influx of wounded marines on hometurf..
>>
>>53494930
Being held up by animator magic does not change the fact the thing could never walk.
Feel free to notice how Relic animators made them move.

They rest them on one foot while the other side of the machine swings up and forward.
This works purely because it's animated as such since the other leg could never support that motion. Basically, it's floating in the air for most of the walking animation.
>>
>>53490353
While it's definitely different to the old one, i overall like the more rounded topside, while not becoming eldarish. It still manages to be plates.exe while keeped a more rounded shape, kudos to the guy who made that.

Also the hand and autocannon look extremely crisp. I don't play 40k, only follow it because of the models, so i'm happy with it all.

Lol, from that side angle you can totally see the waist pivot point that people were complain that it lacks. That "beer gut" looks like an extension of the coffin and or a waist plate to protect is weak mid point of articulation. I for one love it. I think it has a solid and brutalist design that the regular dreadnought championed. However I am kinda worried about the religious atheistic of the imperium being lost in this design.

As a dark angel player I will definitely have to add robes and censures to make it properly imperial.

Dreadnoughts are my favorite models in SM range. Here's how I see Primaris Redemptor.
Positive:
>Follows the functional design of Primaris marine line
>sarcophagus with the pilot is armored
>can realistically walk on those legs
>good auxiliary weapon placements
>great initial weapon choices (personal preference)
>fist with under-slung assault cannon
Negative:
>doesn't look as bulky and armored as Castaferrum pattern
>joints are still exposed and vulnerable, although less
>legs are a bit too long and thin
>don't like the rounded top
Overall, I really like it and I think it is a worthy successor to the Castaferrum (box) pattern. It gets additional points of being able to take 2 assault cannon. I think it could look really good with some extra bits and FW chapter-specific frontal plates.

This is the first major step in the art style and aesthetic of 40k dying, high tech streamline should not be a consideration for imperial models. The Rhino and Predator are both based upon the British FV432 AFV, which entered service in the 1960s, and the basic aesthetics of those kinds of vehicles haven't changed much to this day. It's the rest of the Imperial arsenal that tends to be heavily inspired by WWI/WWII designs, which is why the Space Marines have always had very clean lines compared to everything else.

As for the proportions, they're not all that different to Jes Goodwin's 'template' Space Marine drawing on display at Warhammer World. It's the miniatures that are out of step with the art, not the other way around, thanks to the models being produced in heroic scale.

Breaks a simple design rule. The more humanoid a robot is, the more humanoid the elements that make it up can be. This starts with the head- if it has a recognisably anthropomorphic head (or helmet) then you can get away with anthropomorphic hands. This is what makes the contemptor good, it looks like a more mechanical tartaros suit. The boxnaughts have crazy roboclaws and drills because they are faceless boxes.
This new dread has the same problems as the old metal venerable dread, with 5 fingered claws looking out of place on a legged box. At least the ven had a head

I'm not bothered by the belly, but rather that the front is very prominently sloped backwards. also, that it has no obvious sensors that is directed towards the ground. as it is now, it looks like it has a massive blind spot.
