Rolled 14 (1d26)

Lorgar's theme song edition
Mechanicum Ordo Serpentes subedition

1kSons discussed dusty armour, SoS watched Equilibrium before going to the armoury and transferring to Arrakis, Drop Pods have a high entry fee and respects were paid to based Bligh. Prospero underwent some historical revisionism and Unification fluff and armies were discussed. Deathstars were taken apart by an outdated physics concept, a truly torrential onslaught of memes began and Magos Coatl has apparently founded an entire order. >Alpha Legion, Word Bearers, Night Lords, Iron Warriors
wow, all these upstanding, honest to god dependable Legions, how could anyone doubt their loyalties?

seriously though, the writing is really iffy at times, especially in "Know no Fear" they try to drive home the point of Astartes fighting Astartes being such sn inconcieveable thing, when you have numerous accounts of it happening before. Then you look at the Alpha Legion, being shady as fuck for their entire history, spending more time undermining imperial institutions than actually conquering anything, and I seriously have to doubt the intelligence of anyone who couldn't have seen this civil war coming. The only real surprise is the Sons of Horus turning traitor, their fellow traitor legions were all basically the scum of the Legions already, though the Luna Wolves had a 50:50 split of scum and decent people. I suppose the Ultramarines were too naive, their minds set too much on the task given to them, instead of doing shady and evil stuff like most other legions.

The Iron Warriors always obeyed, why would anyone think they'd commit treason? And the main complains about the AL was their lack of communication with other Imperial factions and the incorrect execution of compliances (only we know of their schemes, the imperials don't). How does that cry "traitor"?

Why do people post things as desperately bad as this and why is it always north americans? What is this thing you people have in your culture where who fucked who 200 years ago is believed to have some importance to anyone and why do you always say it like it's a humblebrag and people should care? Are other people from NA impressed by it, is it like telling people what car you have or something?
I've been to Canada and the USA a couple times (well a fucking leaf once) and the obsession people had with trying to relate their muh ancestors to my life was a bigger culture shock than anything else

How likely am I to get crucified with resin nails on a cross made of Angelus drafts by Chris Wraight himself for fluffing up the FnP from apothecaries as chem-inhalers and bionics/flesh grafts and not attaching apothecaries to units, removing it when the sergeant dies instead? Still taking up an elites slot of course, but treating it more like Chaos covenants from the Lost and the Damned than an attached character.

The units are fluffed as cyber-res'd legionnaires that are far stronger and more durable thanks to the artefacts hidden by the Keys of Hel, at the expense of most of their sanity and agility. Gonna run them as S/T 5 blackshields. not a waacfag I swear

You want to add the effects of a unit's special rules without actually taking the unit as a model but still paying for it? And nominate someone of your choice to be the locii of the special rules for other rules purposes?

>>
>>53484462
Well I guess you'd just be doing this in friendly games so it shouldn't cause any rage as long as you tell people in advance or immediately you go to unpack. Just be prepared to have to - repeatedly - explain yourself.

Though to be honest I would make a cool looking apoth conversion and make him look like a techmarine with a narthecium, that'd be pretty baller. Just say he's ruleswise an apoth, the techmarine gubbins are just there for fluff.
>>
>>53484295
Well I can give some insight into things.

Honestly there's some very weird shit that I encounter at times myself. The specific example I'm thinking of at the moment was a woman I worked with several years ago who told me how he family, who moved to Canada from Germany before she was born, got a lot of shit even unto the modern day, for being German and how they were our enemy during the World Wars.

As for the general trend of people being obsessed with where their ancestors came from. I can't place it exactly but I'd have to say it's because the history of Europeans in North America is less than 500 years old, and many people's ancestors came here in the last 200 years or less (a lot of "free land out west" offers during the 1800's, and people escaping wartorn Europe in the 1900s).

So it doesn't seem too surprising that people would be a bit envious of Europe, since most all of it has long and grandious histories going back thousands of years, and want to highlight their own personal connection to it.

For what it's worth, I personally am a history buff who had a great highschool teacher on the subject that really made me interested in ancient history in particular. And as for my own genetics I consider myself "Canadian" more than anything else. If not just because one side of my family has been here for about 400 years, but also because they've basically been fucking everyone who arrived in the province after them, meaning they don't really have any deep ties to any particular European nation.
>>
>>53484183
It's because America has been a melting pot for a much longer time, so the only way to maintain a sense of cultural identity is through expression and research.

There aren't exactly many positive connotations to being American, and to say you're American does not have the historical weight of other nationalities.

Looking in to your family history is usually fascinating, and it helps contribute to the notion of your feeling like the main character of your life.

I'd rather say that's a white people thing. I could probably trace my roots to two different countries, but I've never bothered to.
I am of the belief that people are from wherever place they're raised.
If you have norse parents but you were raised in the Australia, then you're australian like it or not, no matter how precisely you can trace your roots to your parents' country.
That's one of the reasons why the mexican independence happened: spaniards born here felt themselves more from New Spain than form the old world and a bunch of other politicomilitar reasons.

The importance of immigrant communities is often discounted. When people arrived they didn't just move into the next house on the street, they moved in with their own people in their own areas. And therein they developed an odd, stereotypical attachment to their former homeland as well as an antipathy to the other immigrant communities as they struggled for jobs, space, and power in the community.

If you want to understand why Americans care so much about their heritage you have to remember that we're only 100-150 years removed from our major cities being Balkanized.

They took the cakes without acknowledging them or the questions on them, didn't say a thing when the 40k FAQ banned multibombing and made knight firing arcs weird, didn't FAQ all the rules that don't work well for unit entries in Inferno, and only gave us emails and website book descriptions to go on regarding the future of 30k rules while GW told us pretty much everything about 8th.

The power creep in Inferno was probably a factor, too.

Its a vertical structure, not quite a pyramid.

I imagine the imperial palace is filled with such structures like this pic which I believe is one of the levels of the sanctum imperialis and leads to the eternity gate and the golden throne.
>>
>>53486620
I think it's a pyramid-like structure, for that's supposed to be the Sanctum Imperialis, the Throneroom. The stairs must be the way that leads to the Emperor.
There's another picture like this one. The one with the caption that says the Emperor still cries for mankind or something.

>Alpha Legion did get the job done, they were just known for being incredibly sneaky and indirect about it, which ticked off a number of primarchs with much more 'direct' approaches'.
>The Word Bearers had a negative reputation, but not as being disreputable or unreliable. They were known for being zealots, slow but thorough once set to task, and their number of compliances shot up drastically in the wake of Monarchia. Honestly, the biggest complaint most of the Legions had about the Word Bearers was Lorgar himself. The other primarchs thought he was far too soft.
>Night Lords: Yeah, they were considered scum, unreliable, and honestly a potential threat. But as >>53487394 mentioned, they called whoever was nearby for Istvaan V, not who they'd like. Because I'm sure if the Emperor had the opportunity he would've loved to throw the Space Wolves, Imperial Fists, Blood Angels, and Ultramarines at Horus.
>Iron Warriors had a reputation for being incredibly hard working and driven towards achieving the goals of the Imperium. Their strength, determination, and tenacity would've all been positive factors in the fight against Horus. However, no one else besides Horus was really aware of how bitter they were about getting all of the shitty jobs, or how autistic Peratubo was.

So, 3 out of 4 of the double-traitors at Istvaan were known to have their own quirks, sure, but not for being potential traitors or glaring issues. The Night Lords were the only one that stood out, because they had a bloody reputation on par with the World Eaters and Space Wolves.

My wild guess is that they tried to make it work (after all, they did give all their models 40k stats) but struggled with legion rules/provenances and rites of war. A lot of them relate to reserves, melée striking order, cover saves, and morale - things that have changed significantly in 8th. Maybe they ran out of room to differentiate all the current 30k armies because of those changes.

Other than morale, i do like the way 8th is looking.

The issue with the alpha legion isn't being sneaky, no one is bothered by a stealthy approach, the problem is with them infiltrating and subverting their own allies most of the time.

The Word Bearers "Compliances" shot up after monarchia because they were fucking up already compliant worlds. Lorgar didn't turn his life around, he went full apeshit after monarchia, filling his ships to the brink with scum and zealots, those organisations and cults didn't pop up a week before calth out of nowhere. Lorgar has been planning and building his three Super Traitor Class Star Destroyers for a while too.

The only treason that comes as somewhat a surprise were the Iron Warriors.

>>
>>53489461
No, but when the excuse is basically the individual's personal headcase fuckups that become everyone else's trouble, most people who are reasonably well adjusted know that does not make them less a cunt.
Lorgar and Pert are some of the best examples of this. The only traitor that really has some manner of unfortunate circumstance is Mortarion.

>>
>>53489461
Complexity =/= being an idiot.
>>
>>53489557
No, but almost all of the traitor primarches went down the rout they did because of their own character flaws.
Accepting that is not the same as excusing it.
All Angron wanted was to die in battle against something he could safely claim to be better than. His reward was eternal life in service to a tyrant he "chose".
Lorgar would have believed in a rock if he could find an excuse to, he required belief in something to function. He happened to chose something that was inimical to everyone else around him.
This does NOT make them sympathetic, it only expands on what we already knew: most of the traitors, in their own minds, had excellent reasons to do what they did. That does not mean they can't be called out for being cunts.
Perterabo was, and further, he ACCEPTED he was a cunt, at the end.

Okay lads, I need help list-building, and I know there's a surprising number of Iron Hands players so hopefully you all can help.

Goin for a 3k armored Breakthrough, and the basics of the list are gonna be-

>Sicarian HQ
>two preds with lascannon sponsons
>3 javelin speeders
>good ol' podding leviathan
>some Gorgons in a LR
>Contemptor-Mortis

Then probably a pair of Vindicators, a Killy praetor and his retinue, and a storm eagle to ferry them in and give some AA. Does that look good? My other thought is to Squad the vindies and swap out the Contemptor for a (Plasma? Friends say it's good) deredeo.

I won't be the best against Primarch stars (though sheer weight of AP2 blasts can do work), but in general I think it seems pretty good. Am I wrong?
>>
>>53491274
At 3k, you want scoring. You have the best scoring unit in 30k, an av13 tank. As Armoured Breakthrough, you want as little infantry as you can do to make the most of the oversaturation of armour, so thats a good idea. I would drop the gorgons and ignore your praetor, as thats gonna be wasted points against any sort of CC unit-a praetor in particular is never gonna be good against most characters/primarchs/killy magi. For the vindies, squadding them is good as you can give them machine spirit, which works pretty similar to split fire. A plasma deredeo is kinda an overly-expensive side-grade to the autocannon one, as while its better against elite infantry its much shorter range and lack of rerolls against armour make it a weak tradeoff. As you bulk out your models, consider swapping the mortis for the deredeo, as the deredeo is everything it does but better. This is my list for 2k that is being partially proxied, but im taking my time modelling my Panzertruppe Night Lords

205-Master of Armour Sicaran, Lascannons

290-2x Chainfist Cortus

230-2 units of Preds w/ Lascannons

190-2 units of Preds w/ HBolters

210-Lightning-2xKraken, Auguries, Servitor Control

110-2xJavelins

230-Fire Raptor, Reaper Cannons, Hellstrike Missiles

190-Sicaran Venator

340-Malcador, Lascannons, Demolisher Cannon, Multimelta

To bring it up to 3k, i would bring any combination of more cortus dreads (half-price leviathans that are nearly as good), more predator troops, and a superheavy tank of some description-barring stuff like the quake cannon baneblade, just about anything will work. As Iron Hands, you have unique access to Castrmen Orth, who makes a Sicaran Venator rape on tracks and is highly recommended. Your solution to primarchstars is to ignore them, shoot their ride out turn one and slowly gun them down whilst keeping your distance. This is all designed for a cut-throat as all hell aussie meta, if playing nice feel free to ignore me

>>
>>53491567
Cool shit man, love to see any pics if you've got them. I guess the termies aren't the pound-for-pound best unit out there, but I think I wanna keep at least the Gorgons around. Though a Lightning seems like a really smart plan, I can kit it up for maximum armor rapeage and shoot out the traditional Spartan/Primarch/medicae combo.

Mix that with Orth and I've got a pretty kickass list, thanks anon! My meta is nowhere near
Strayan waacfag levels of cancer, but the typical PotL spartanstar+double leviathan+vets out the ass shows up a fair bit. I'm just lucky the one guy who ended up doing 1k sons (god willing no one else does) is chill dude that ended up making a veteran sniper/hentai blades force. New Battlefleet Gothic is confirmed to take place in 30k, designers at seminar gave the impression that actual work hasn't started on it. Also it's not Epic Armageddon, it's based heavily on the 1988 ruleset. On that note, the book hits the printers "next week." Release date: the first opening in their calendar. Remember to order the special edition, not the starter set. The starter set IS ONLY THE RULEBOOK AND TEMPLATES.
>>
>>53492746
I nearly forgot to explain why it was delayed. Titanicus was going to be so expensive originally that the rulebook had scenarios for when one player can't afford to buy a full army--stuff where there's a big points imbalance between forces, permitting both rich and poor to field everything at once. The switch to plastic came after the staggering success of Blood Bowl.

So it's no secret 7th edition has too many rules, and that makes for weird interactions. Most of that comes from the fact that there's rules for ignoring pretty much everything. Take morale for example. The 8th edition battleshock system is stupid, the 7th edition works just fine. The problem is there's a billion different ways to ignore it and everyone and their dog can. Vehicles having different armor on different sides is a fine system, the issue is the vehicle damage chart allows you to one shot or cripple any vehicle, but instant death for monstrous creatures is exceedingly rare. Better to just remove the damage table which, by the way, superheavies ignore almost entirely anyway. Templates aren't a terrible system, but blast scatter certainly can be and that's something I'm actually fine with going away. Deep strike scatter is a good mechanic as a risk vs reward. Same for reserves in general. Initiative is a good system that doesn't need "fixing", alternate activation for 1 phase of the game is dumb, either go all in or don't do it at all. I don't really have an opinion on armor save modifiers until I actually see it played, but it's fine in the few AoS games I've played although those are primarily melee.

The biggest issue with 7th, and I guarantee it won't be resolved at all by 8th, is the number of special rules. Stuff like Zealot, which gives both Fearless and Hatred...may as well just the unit those two rules instead of inventing a new package deal to remember on its own. Stubborn which invalidates a lot of stuff. ect etc. All those rules will still exist, but under multiple names over multiple armies so nobody knows what's what even though they have the same rules.

The best thing to come out of 8th is going to be the movement stat so that fast infantry can actually go fast, maybe the new psyker phase. 7th as a concept is fine, 8th just goes too far with it. So that's why I'm fine with 30k staying a mostly 7th game.

>You literally said that minorities and women weren't "normal people"
That's some pretty far reaching there, and/or some pretty bad reading comprehension.

I said normal people don't care about the kind of bullshit you were whining about, regarding "women and minority quotas". Normal people, to any rational person, isn't excluding women or minorities (but then, if you were rational, we wouldn't be arguing about how much you believe a made-up quote us 'true').

And like every right-wing fuck you'd rather try and win and argument on a technicality, than with facts, reasoning, or an argument with actual merits! So you decided to try and twist my words into meaning something they didn't. Well fuck you, because that's not what I said and anyone with two brain cells to rub together than clearly see that.

jesus you're such a fucking insufferable retard, talking about strawmen while building one yourself. Nowhere did anyone say it doesn't matter because the quote "feels true" the point was that the weedlmao weedman was such a fucking cuck the enemy quote wasn't far fetched. That's why anyone who read it didn't have a hard time believing it.

you're talking about feefees but it's an undeniable fact that you're the one who got upsset, or lets say offended, by someone taking a fake quote and comparing it to the logic applied by Alpharius. established where? do you really think anone is interested enough in some cuck ass leaf to read up on news that the quote paraded around for years is actually false? No one even gives a shit because the quote being fake doesn't change anything, Trudeo was considered a cuck before that quote was fabricated and is a cuck still. It doesn't change a thing, and funny shit seeing a lefty fuck talk about slandering the opposition, when that's the very thing the left has been doing for decades, and only now sees their own weapons of lies and slander turned against themself.

And what are you even doing, claiming you're not upset while defending a politician on the internet with such tenacity. Get fucking real kid, taking snippets of posts out of context doesn't advance your argument either.
>it doesn't matter if the quote is true because in the face of leftist defeatism towards islam, it might aswell be true, even if it's just a hyperbolic meme.
how about arguing against the full sentence? guess that doesn't work that well since it doesn't conform with your strawman of a weevil right winger being hooked on a fake quote.

>Established where?
Reality, where it's a provable fact that the quote in question was never said by Trudeau. I don't even like the guy myself, but it is fucking ridiculous to see idiots like you running around using completely made up bullshit to slander him with.

>how about arguing against the full sentence?
Why? Does it somehow make you look less retarded by highlighting that your dismissal of factual evidence is because you clearly have an unreasoning hatred for liberals and muslims? Because to me it looks like it makes you more obviously retarded. Also funny how you try and throw this in my face, when earlier you jumped all over a comment of mine, and tried to twist it into me saying that women and minorities weren't people.

As for the tactics that the left has been using, if you could point out some of the lies and slander you're talking about I'd love to address it, but considering that this is the typical knee-jerk bullshit that the right always accuses their opponents of, while engaging in themselves to an excessive degree, I'll hardly be surprised when you come up with little to nothing.

As to me being upset, I've posted quote coherently and consistently throughout this entire engagement, making thought out comments, and justifying my reasoning at almost every step. Compared to you, screaming " you have to go back!" and posting a picture of pepe on more than one occasion, I'm practically Clarence fucking Darrow.

why did GW decide to retcon these guys being a founding legion?

would anyone complain if I fielded them in 30k?
>>
>>53501664
Probably some guys. I wouldn't mind but
>Muh Heresy
>Must be exactly identical with established canon
>>
>>53501664

Well they're technically not "known" legion but they're still canon in 40k. Go for it anyway, I'd love to see Horus Heresy Rainbow Warriors.
>>
>>53501664
You could totally get away with them as either Blackshields or just a chapter of an existing legion.
>>
>>53501664
It would possibly be the gayest thing in 30k and I would call you a fag, but go ahead they're your doods.
>>
>>53501664
I personally wouldn't have an issue, plus... a game's a game. But especially big-on-lore players might have an issue, or if you tried to bring up playing your "own" legion rules. Personally I'd run em as some sort of blackshield rules without marauders/reaver lords and with tacs and praetors, or the old "stubborn or furious charge" option for legions who didn't have proper rules yet.
>>
>>53501664
Not sure why they got retconned, but they're now UM successors. Were they ever 1st founding?

Just call them a UM chapter. The color works, and that gives you rules to use.
>>
Trying to read all I can on knights. Everything I've found is either 40k or HH book 3. Is there anything else? Like in one of the armor books or other fluff?
>>
>>53503007
I assume you mean HH book 4. That's the big one for knight players.

The Porphyrion is introduced in book 7, but there isn't much knight material. Book 5 has some too.

In terms of Black Library novels, Vengeful Spirit and Master of Mankind have knight houses doing stuff.

What Does this board think it would have happened if the primarch´s roles were reversed?

I mean, If horus, mortarion, angron, lorgar, aplharius omegon, konrad curze, perturabo, magnus and fulgrim were loyal, and ferrus manus, sanguinius, leman russ, lion el´jonson, corvus corax, vulkan, rogal dorn, jaghatai khan, Vulkan and roboute guilliman were traitors? Who would lead each side, and to what chaos god would the traitors turn?
>>
>>53502877
>Were they ever 1st founding?
In RT they were
>>
>>53503677
Alpharius would still be playing both sides like a retard.
>>
>>53503761
RT didn't really have foundings and legions until the Realms of Chaos books.
>>
>>53503677
Don't start, otherwise it'll be that Dornian Heresy bullshit all over again.
>>
>>53503878
Shhhhh dont tell them.......thats the point..............

Jk. Jokes aside, I would really like to have more opinions on this matter
>>
>>53503677
Guilliman's whole legion was caught unaware and paralized by the fear of the Emperor being dead, which further immobilized both Angels. Those guys had been traitors, including the Fists, Emps would have died and that would be it.
Especially because Magnus would still fuck up something important.
>>
>>53504005
Thats one way to see it I hadnt thought off. Why do you think the emperor would have been outright killed if the roles were reversed
>>
>>53503677
The Lion would've been the Lorgar to Guilliman's Horus.
>>
>>53504144
Having the Pharos, Guilliman doesn't need to capture Terra intact. He'll probably rebuild it as a monument world.
For the sake of the narrative, lets assume the story ends up the same, only with Horus being poisoned by Ferrus' talons of Laer, Emps enthroned, and Guilliman's soul erased after Emps uses the chink in his armour made by Angron, who held the Gates of Eternity.
>Come on in, erstwhile brothers! Let us bleed and our differences be solved by our blades!
Hell, the heresy would actually be more interesting, with Horus truly having to show mad command skills by using the double-disadvantaged loyalists (like Curze and Angron) , and use Mortarion the Reaper's and Perturabo the Praetorian of Terra's skills to hold the advance the disciplined undaunted traitors:
Dorn the breaker, Sanguinius the Bloody, Russ of the Beasts, Lion'El the dark knight, Ferrus first-murderer of the Iron Talons, and Warmaster Roboute, among others.
>>
>>53489274
after magnus, lorgar had the best reason to go chaos after how the emperor treated him.
>>
>>53504282
I find it interesting that you place Guilliman as Warmaster in the scenario. Makes sense since we're doing a complete flip scenario, but I wonder: had the traitors not had the Warmaster on their side, would the heresy have even gotten off the ground? Say Horus never fell at Davin. Could Lorgar have orchestrated turning the other primarchs and forging a cohesive war on his own? The Aurelian Heresy, as it were. I doubt it.
>>
>>53493328
well omegon has the cabal representative sucked out an airlock in the next book
>>
>>53493083
wut? humanity is Chaos' main fuel, they are the most populous species after the Orks and the Orks have their own Gods who gets their psychic emotions.

Without humanity chaos would die, which is why they will never try to wipe out humanity and in fact like the current state of things (decay/stagnation)
>>
>>53493694
And Hitler had Jewish ancestry and pol pot was an urban intellectual

People with confidence issues tend to do this kind of hypocritical behavior.
>>
>>53503677
>>53504282
>>53505324
It's pretty much canon that the only other guy of being Warmaster was Sanguinius, and if it wasn't Horus Sanguinius was the main choice for Chaos.

Sangy is literally Horus but without the daddy issues. In that way he is BETTER than Horus, and Horus knew that, which is why he tried to have Sangy killed instead of converted (as the Chaos Gods wanted) at Signus Prime
>>
>>53503677
I can't see any scenario where Curze and Angron stayed loyal. Or where Russ, Dorn, Vulkan, Guilliman, and Sanguinius went traitor.

And Alpharius will ALWAYS fuck both sides

But that aside, Sanguinius would be the heretical warmaster and Horus the noble defender of Terra.

Dark Angels would be Tzeentch, White Scars Slaanesh, Wolves/BA Khorne, Salamanders Nurgle, Raven Guard/Ultramarines/Imperial Fists Chaos Undivided
>>
>>53505559
Sangy's issue was an inferiority complex. Due to the wings he thought there was something wrong with him, that he was corrupted. The Red Thirst certainly didn't help him in that regard.
>>
>>53503677
We would probably see the Alpha Legion waging an alternative Shadow Crusade against Ultramar. A tide of vicious insurgent and piratical maneuvers designed to keep the Ultramarines penned up and unable to bring the bulk of their numbers to bear.
>>
HH is fucking dead game. Who play WF 8th? Same thing.
>>
>>53506748
WF 8th is not supported. HH will be. It's a new line and a new game system. All that's happened is that its finally divorced itself from 40k for good.
