>>53462512
People are tired of hearing "Big Bad Evil Guy" when "villain" is better in just about every way and doesn't make you sound like a toddler who just came back from tvtropes.
>>
>>53462545
>>53462570
People have been complaining about "Big Bad Evil Guy" for years. The early complaints seemed to be mostly about the concept itself, with many people disagreeing that a plot needed a character as a central antagonist.

Now, it seems that some of the complaints are about the language. "Big Bad Evil Guy" was coined to sound corny, and is more of an in-joke than a designation like "Central Antagonist." It's also grown to be somewhat vague, with some people using it as the central antagonist, others using it as the final antagonist, and still others using it as simply any antagonist, which can get confusing when trying to communicate about one of these specific ideas.

As far as the shitstorm, I think that comes in part because it takes very little effort to say "BBEG sounds dumb", which is enough to trigger some people who use that phrase. These people then go to say things like "you need to respect this acronym, it's /tg/'s acronym, every true fa/tg/uy uses BBEG exclusively," and that gets even people who had no real interest in the matter upset, because it starts to sound like there's people who are actually actively trying to push BBEG.

BBEG is a meme, and like most memes it doesn't have much of a shelf life. The old joke has faded, and now it seems like people are just finding it weird for people to be so fervent in holding onto it.

The setting's big three villains are the following:
>A colony of maggots inhabiting the corpse of a deceased god, referred to as The Pale Choir. They gained a sort of malignant intelligence from consuming deific flesh.
>A powerful entity that is the origin of hag kind and mortal witchcraft, known as The Hag Mother. She has been seeding secret changelings into populations around the world for millennia.
>Two unique twin sapient undead created when a great hero cleaved a mighty undead lord's skull in twain known as Absolution and Enlightenment. Before they were split the undead lord was trying to build an assisted suicide device for reality called The Deliverance Engine.

I don't understand the question. Do you mean the wizard class feature to specialize into a school- in which case, that's with the wizard- or do you mean the group of spells?

All spells have their school listed at the top of their stat block. You can find details on any special functions of a school in the Magic chapter.

I have the book in portuguese and a PDF in english, the guide for Wizards from Treantmonk mentions a "Conjuration School", but both the portuguese and english books don't mention this "conjuration" school in the mage part.
>>
>>53462945

Are we GURPing now? I really can't wrap my head around the thing you're saying anon, been reading lots of rulebooks today. Mind mind has only ptsd images of my homebrew cosmology right now, sorry.

I delved the reddit, 4chan archives, interwebz, etc and couldn't find such a list, only some info here and there. You guys got such a lifesaving url or not?
>>
>>53463022
Sounds like it was probably translated as something else. It's the school that summons stuff. Like Summon Monster.
>>
>>53463065
But the english PDF doens't mention the conjuration school as well.
>>
>>53463077
...yes, it absolutely does. Are you sure you have the core rulebook?
>>
>>53463054
No? I'm telling you that 3.5 is shit, PF is just a reskinned 3.5, and it is thus shit too. Move on to something else for your own good, and your players too.
>>
>>53463022
Conjuration is a school that specializes in creating something out of nothing temporarily or bring something from somewhere into another place.
>>
So by pathfinder's settlement rules approximately 5% of the population are spell casters. As Thorps (who are ~20 people) have a level 1 spell caster in them.

I have never gotten anyone's reasoning over why vague knowledge of how spells work shouldn't be common for everyone in golarion when everyone knows at least one spellcaster.

I'm not saying spell craft to identify spells, but that stuff like "magic is dangerous", "even weak mages can put you to sleep", "shooting them while they're trying to cast stops them", "priests need holy symbols to do their magic", and that sort of shit.
>>

>>

Iconic Mystic is best bug dad.

Really digging the new races. One of the first thing I asked myself when I learned Shirren commonly keep their larva with them, even when adventuring, is all the ways that could possibly go wrong, and what might happen in such an instance.

Thus, the concept for my Shirren Operative was born.

The Subjective Spider is not evil per se but the wealthy explorer that found it in the Vast and tried to bring it back hoped to use it to literally re-write reality to reclaim his lost fame and revive his wife who died during the decline of his career and hopefully rebuild the relationship with his children.

The act of carrying it back messed with the drift engines causing it to be lost in the Drift for years but now signs are showing that the ship is within reach and a number of groups are gunning for it, for the chance at priceless treasures of the Vast while the children want to know the fate of their father.

Idea for a scenario in Starfinder

Taking a quick glance back at the weapon creation system, I have to ask who the fuck designed this garbage. The shit I made in the above post? I could just make it a Martial Weapon rather than exotic and the only thing I would lose out on is it being a traditional elven weapon. Hell, any weapon worth using save a 2-handed finesse weapon can be made martial and work just fine.

He's going to unleash a planetary-scale catastrophe with the potential to cause at the very least a massive dieout of humanoids and other complex lifeforms, and condemn his own race specifically (serpentfolk somewhat refluffed) to final and complete extinction. Why he's doing that? Well, he was somewhat of a standard PF serpentfolk magic-user, except even more of a raging, arrogant supremacist than normal, considering his race the eldest and most perfect of all, and then, as he sought to unearth more secrets and powers from ancient history, and return his people to glory, he delved too deep, and had H.P. Lovecraft protagonist's realization about how utterly insignificant serpentfolk were in the grand scheme of things, and how hopeless his old plans were. His sanity shattered alongside with his pride, he basically decided to ragequit and to take as much of the mortal world with him as he could (his followers are not aware of that).

Shawn Michaels was once in a tag team called The Rockers with a guy called Marty Jannetty, that ended when Shawn turned heel and threw Marty through a barber shop window. Since then, Marty has faded to obscurity, while Shawn Michaels is... Shawn Michaels.

That comparison may be too extreme, but I feel that Pathfinder will always be in D&D's shadow to an extent, the system has a lot of issues, a lot of things it's expected to honor, with it's best aspect being it's setting (outside of the kitchen sink that is Golarion) whereas Starfinder is basically free to take what has been proven to work and make it into it's own thing, and as you said Sci-Fi is so much easier to keep grounded and stay immersed in.

One of fantasy tabletop's biggest failings for me has been it's really hard to feel any sense of immersion, tension, or stakes when in the back of my mind I know it all comes down to dice rolls and the party wizard flipping the board upside down. That later also makes it hell to GM for.

Whereas with Starfinder I'm confident everyone at the table will know what's going on and how much they can impact said goings on at all times.

Also I can be a dinosaur space marine. For the Veskarium! For Damoritosh, The Conqueror!
>>
>>53462639

>>
>>53463946
Why have three stick out like that though? What possible use could it have besides "oh man starfinder so cool, I sure do love paizocock"?
>>
>>53463911
The arrows could be a shoulder weapon like the Predator's plasma thrower.
>>
>>53463964

Because you're secretly projecting your love of cocks? I don't know, blame the artist.
>>
>>53463971

>>
>>53463987
>holo-back banner

SPACE CAVALIER
>>
>>53463964
I mean it's a bit more practical than having one large line of energy being projected. It focuses the energy into three distinct points, which might aid in armor penetration. I'm pulling this out of my ass.

On the other hand, having an energy pick which is just one big spike of gloopy plasma stuff would be cool

Aside from people just not liking how it sounds and it being largely unnecessary and overly cutesy, it's really out and away a weird piece of jargon compared to more direct terms like PC or MP or GM. I'm personally not a huge fan of it either.
There's also this whole thing about it being very tvtropesy and popularized by Joss Whedon, and both of those don't have a particularly great reputation here.
It's nothing to get upset over, but it's not really hard to see why some people prefer just sticking to more common language.
>>
>>53464534

So I'm making a Daring Champion Cavalier with Order of the Cockatrice.

I can take either Dervish Dance or Slashing Grace. I'll have the perform and the finess. But basically... is there anything that beats the Scimitar to justify not just going that route?

Would Sworlord be decent enough to swap in for some levels and justify a dueling sword? Seems like it would basically be trading a lot of damage for some ac which I'll already have a lot of.
>>
>>53464960
Unless you have a specific build in mind that'd benefit more from another kind of one-handed slashing weapon, Scimitar and Dervish Dance are probably your best bet.

Swordlord is shit.

I can't really think of any. I don't really like the aesthetics of the Scimitar that much and it is strange setting wise but stat wise it seems to be the best option and just works perfectly in the build.

Aisha wasn't bad. She needed a little work, but she was actually pretty good.

I expected she was going to get into Dragons1, and then Dragons2 before it turned out what kind of prima donna her player was. Every time someone gave a review, he threw a fit. When Avowed got nerfed, he threw a fit. In the end, he was such a problem even before the game got started that Aisha ended up as a crib-death.

My BBEG was once a renowned hero and admired by the entire world. When a tragedy struck his world and annihilated it even he was powerless to stop it, but he somehow survived.
He dimension hopped to another timeline and the same thing happened, though he had been working for centuries to prevent it, that failed as well. He sought knowledge, more power. He tried again and failed, and again until he finally went mad. His power backfired upon him, changing his form into a more grotesque illithid-like creature. Now he is obsessed with knowledge and came into the party's current dimension a thousand years ago.

And the gods are afraid of him.

Why? Not bait, I'm genuinely curious why you're so angry about the stats of guns at level one? Melee weapons are better than ranged options damage wise at level one in pathfinder, but they get better.

>>
>>53466573
Pathfinder has a lot of fixed shit. People will say otherwise and point at the unfixed shit, but at the end of the day, Use Rope did not need to be its own fucking skill. Aye, but this isn't necessarily just another space RPG either. It's Pathfinder, in space, with all that implies. If this were a mass effect TTRPG I would be screaming with everyone else, but it's pathfinder in space. Meaning space fighters can just dive into a dragon's guts without dying and kill it from within with a magic lead pipe, just like pathfinder. It might be easier to hit with the laser weapons if it's going off touch AC though, or whatever they're calling it...

I get that it was always going to be more science fantasy than science fiction, but I was still hoping they would make guns an option for everyone while still allowing melee focused classes to do what they love best. While also getting guns because who wouldn't be trained in them.

See, guns in SF to me should be like the advice to always have a ranged weapon in PF. At some point there might be something too far away to swing a sword at, so a crossbow would come in handy (don't get caught up on "crossbow", any ranged weapon works). The big difference is that guns in SF should be a lot stronger than those options were, and ideally more specialized.
