Tech Edition
We all know that tech gets shafted right now, from high ESS cost, to high price for Ware and Decks, to high Availability.
What do you do to help those guys?
Lower deck and ware prices?
Extra ESS for mundanes?
Something else?

that would be nerfing awakened, which is also useful to close the gap between them
But what do you do to buff the mundanes?
>>
>>53425837
I drop Cyberware costs by half and let Cyberlimbs be Enhanced up to 4. I also increase Cyberarm capacities to match legs.
It buffs Hands of God more than I'd like, but it's a compromise I'm okay making at my table.

I also let Bioware and Cyberware with ratings be upgraded rather than fully replaced.

The last sentence is subjective, and you're allowed to be wrong. Still gonna point at you and laugh though.
>>
>>53425189
>A background count impose a negative dice pool penalty
>a negative penalty
So... A bonus?
>>
>>53426385
No a negative penalty, as opposed to a positive penalty.

Granted, those are for totally different things (negative penalties for the die pools you are using, positive penalties for things like Public Awareness or your enemy's die pools), but it is possible.

Despite my glibness, a positive penalty is usually only for things like memory or public awareness. Where extra dice are got and you don't want them got.
>>
>>53426504
>No a negative penalty, as opposed to a positive penalty.
Positive penalty is a negative. Negative penalty is a positive.
>Despite my glibness, a positive penalty is usually only for things like memory or public awareness. Where extra dice are got and you don't want them got.
Then you call them bonus dice.
>>
>>53426235
When you can kill a chicken and create a minor background count, that's a mundane buff.

>Extra ESS for mundanes?
Nah. Mandatory Sensitive System or Cyber Snob.
>>
>>53426563
I know. I was mostly being glib about the somewhat redundant terminology.

Now, if it was still the era of variable success numbers, then positive and negative penalties would be a somewhat useful shorthand.

A positive penalty would be adjusting the success number, and a negative one affecting the die pool, just by inference.
>>
>>53426660
>A positive penalty would be adjusting the success number
Also known as increased threshold.
>and a negative one affecting the die pool
So, a dice pool penalty.
>>
>>53425174
Yeah. Wasn't saying that Chummer should change, but that there's nothing to change - and may never be.
>>
>>53426731
No, I'm talking about like in 3e where to count a success you might have to roll a five, six, seven, or even eight depending on what you were doing.

Right now I can't think of anything that would cause a roll of a 5 to not count as a success on that die.

(As for how you could roll an eight on a six sided die, well, back then sixes got rerolled and then you added the numbers together to get the result.)
>>
>>53426767
That sounds like a stupid system.
>>
>>53426767
>back then sixes got rerolled and then you added the numbers together to get the result.
which meant that a 6 and a 7 was the same difficuilty
>>
>>53426908
Yeah that's why I called it a stupid system.
>>
>>53426846
A system like that can work, but I feel it needs at least one of two things that early SR didn't have. Either some semi-hard determinism on when the numbers change, or just scaling in one direct, preferably down.

>>53426908
At least as long as those sixes could explode.

Street Level just gives less NuYen, Street Scum adjusts the whole CharGen

As expected, in Street Level most play as awakened because that way they won't be limited

Most of the INT traditions except for Chaos Magic are pretty restrictive in terms of flavor. An Ork raised on the street could easily an Urban Shaman or a Chaos Mage.

Hey, I'm an idiot. Does anyone know how to add Metamagic in Chummer?

>>
UI question for you guys; I'm considering switching the existing label-based layout to a textblock-based setup in order to reduce wasted whitespace and provide a small amount of support for people using peasant resolutions. One of the main potential downsides to this is that we'd also have to concatenate tooltips to show the breakdown of complex properties, so a vehicle's tooltip label would be like this:

Pilot: xxx + yyy + zzz
Armor: xxx + yyy + zzz
Handling: xxx + yyy + zzz
Handling (Offroad): xxx + yyy + zzz
Speed: xxx + yyy + zzz
Sensor: xxx + yyy + zzz
Seats: xxx + yyy + zzz

I'm a little bit worried that this would become an unreadable blob; we can apply formatting to highlight the headers and relevant numbers and such to make it easier, but can you guys think of any other problems with doing it in that way? The Source label would still be a separate object so that you can click it to open the PDF of course.

>>53431862
Seems not. I'll have to run through and confirm if anything else is missing.
>>53433017
Once you have access to the Initiation tab (Enable the houserule for create mode or move into career mode), click the Add Initiate Grade button, then right-click on the Grade treenode and click Add Metamagic. If you don't have the houserule to ignore Street Grimoire's Art requirements, you'll need to add the appropriate Art type for your chosen metamagic first. Unchecking the option to hide metamagics you can't take and double-clicking on it will tell you what you're missing.

The actual textblock would still have proper formatting, it just means that a clusterfuck like the vehicles tab would be able to JUST show the relevant fields for the weapon, or gear, or vehicle, or location notes, or whatever else I inject into it.

Like, this is the current backend mapping for the vehicles tab. It's a mess of stuff that's been slapped in over time.

So I was thinking it would be awesome for my character to take clinch, use that and follow up with shock gloves. The movie versions were outwardly normal people, but had superstrength basically. Basically able to pass as human.

The combat versions in the AvP games were walking tank, that could soak up damage like it was nothing.

The first version could be represented by stating a cybered face maybe.
The second version could be a beefed up anthropomorphic drone.
Like pic related just way harder to kill.

So Cyber-Snob prevents you from picking up any bio/cyberware less then beta grade but you're prevented from picking up anything higher then alphagrade at chargen. Does this mean that you are unable to pick Cyber-Snob at chargen unless you pick something like Restricted Gear?
>>
>>53437633
It means you can't start with ware unless you talk with your GM or are doing a Prime Runner campaign.

AFAIK Restricted Gear doesn't let you bypass the alphaware limit, it just lets you get higher availabilities of 'ware.
>>
>>53435620
The plan is for there still to be as much whitespace, don't worry about that. I just want to be able to look at a weapon on a vehicle without wasting two-thirds of the space on invisible controls. Wrost case scenario I try it, hate the effort of maintaining the configuration strings and roll back, but it's a ways off still.
>>53437633
Word of Freelancer is that you should change the grade to Alphaware and reduce the karma bonus. Also, Restricted Gear won't let you bypass the Alphaware limit on chargen.

That.

>>53437633
>Does this mean that you are unable to pick Cyber-Snob at chargen
This.

It's essentially something you swap other negative qualities out for, after the game has started. So if you kill off an enemy, pay off your debt, erase your criminal record, etc. you can potentially become a snob.

So after taking a break from SR to try some new things I have been invited to a SR5 game but most of my experience comes from 4e with me playing sr5 as a player when it first came out. I'm pretty sure I can get a grasp of how the new chargen works and I remember how limits work somewhat so i'm here to ask if there is anything that is just plain "bad" I plan to play a face with some medical skills (maybe adept not sure) but is there anything really bad I should look out for?
>>
>>53439054
Make sure you get basically everything you want in chargen because if your GM goes by the books you'll get fuckin nothing from your runs in terms of nuyen
desu i reccomend cashing out the full 100 karma or whatever worth of nuyen nomatter what you play
>>
>>53439054
Medical skills aren't all that useful in combat, and you can heal up just fine out of combat via rest or seeing a street doc.

Just get a Saviour Medkit and put your skills into something you'll have fun doing.
>>
>>53439357
>>53439054
There's an optional rule about (I think it's in Missions, it may be slightly houseruled) that you can swap one Karma for 2000 nuyen and vice versa. If you're in Stephen's game we're using it.
>>
>>53439357

Also, ask how your GM is on stealing things. If they're not operators operating operationally levels of security on every little thing, then the book numbers can be perfectly fine as long as you can steal some stuff.

And have a contact to dump it on, if you need speed, or a good negotiation roll if you need the monies instead.

'Paracritter' as a broad category are the species that only emerged since the Awakening. Not necessarily magical in that they have a Magic score, but the increase in mana allowed recessive genes to come back to the fore (a behemoth is to an alligator what a troll is to a human - not inherently magical, but requiring mana to exist).

The Critter Form/Shapechange spell is retarded because it says no paracritters, then gives only paracritters as an example of something you can turn into. Fixed in errata.
>Also, change the second sentence of the second paragraph from “Each critter form is a different spell (Hellhound form, Devil Rat Form, and so on)” to “Each critter form is a different spell (dog form, shark form, and so on).”

Shapechange allows you to go paracritter form, and any other form you wish.

Shape (Critter) Form is effectively a limited version of that spell.

Rule of thumb: You change via goblinization, but are formed in the womb.

(Trolls count as paracritter, so shapechange is needed. Humans are mundane, thus are applicable for form.)

How possible is it to get close to a dwarf like Torbjorn?
Sort of a mix between tanky street sam and a rigger, but I'm worried you might be a bit spread thin.
>>
>>53447208
Not that hard actually. For minimal investment you can have a single gun turret, and then you just dump all your other points into being a sammy.
>>
>>53447287

>>53447287
To do it in SR it might be better to invest in some Steel Lynxes, because stationary turrets are pretty useless for shadowruns.

>>
>>53447404
They can be. If he wants to be a tank sammy, he'll get cyberlimbs for the increase in track boxes, and carrying means averaging that.

Also, it's retarded to try and carry a stationary turret instead of just getting one with wheels.

>We all know that tech gets shafted right now, from high ESS cost, to high price for Ware and Decks, to high Availability.

>What do you do to help those guys?
I use the option to have certain 'quirks' for used cyberware rather than the increased ESS cost. The quirk will usually be something minor that applies all the time or something significant but situational.
>>
>>53447791
Isn't that basically Omegaware already?
Same cost as Used, same ESS as Standard, but not quite High-Quality Original Ware
>>
>>53447848
Yeah, I forgot what the name for it was. It also reduces the Availability by 4 so they can get cyberware up to an effective Avail of 16.
>>
>>53442214
Oh man, I played with this guy years ago. Nice dude, the first time I played SR was with him and even though it capsized I'm glad it was with a good GM and not some of the morons I dealt with later.
>>
Okay so let me get through this and tell me if the logic holds
>Cyberzombies get H.Armor, BC and increase in ATT maximum based on ESS Defect
>Lower below 0 == Better
>Deltaware has to be used, which means it costs less essence
>which means that you need more to get it below 0
now
>Sensitive System doubles all ESS costs
>which means the 0.5 of the delta ware is canceled out
>Which means you can get lower for the same price
>WHICH MEANS, that the best subjects for Cyberzombies are people with sensitive systems
right?
>>
>>53448893
That's one way of looking at it.
But high negative essence also makes it harder for them to survive the cyber zombification process and makes it harder for them to not go crazy later on. To much negative essence right off the bat can make the potential cyberzombie unworkable.

So, while sensitive system would mean you could make a cyberzombie for cheaper it also means you can fit less cyberware in before you reach the dangerzone.

I could see some mademan wanting to collect a bunch of SenSyst guys for his super-soldier army project becasue he needs a bunch of badasses RIGHT NOW and doesn't care if a couple die in the process or that the survivors won't remain sane for very long.
>>
>>53448893
>Deltaware has to be used
No? It just needs to be a Delta-grade clinic.
Yes, the strongest Cyberzombie is all Used Ware.
>>
>>53449379
Hmm, already wondered if I just misread that part
I swear I could remember it having to be all Delta
>>
So, i'm away from my books right now and have a question. Adepts can increase a weapons power or something by a ritual, iirc, in place of a meta magic. What all can adept weapons do? It just a flat increase in dice pool, or are there things like armor piercing or damage increase that you can select from. I want to make a bullwhip that doesn't suck, but don't want to use a monowhip because I dislike the design.
>>
>>53449744
Attune Item increases the limit when the Adept uses the object, in this case Accuracy, but can't be combined with a weapon focus. Imbue Item can be combined with a Weapon Focus and can also do some fun stuff, I'm also away from the books though so I don't remember exactly the bonuses you can attach to a Weapon.
>>
>>53449379
Nah. The strongest Cyber Zombie is the one you dose with Renfield and give Essence Loss to - provided you can keep them functioning long enough for it to matter.
>>
>>53449744
Honestly though, your best bet for making the Bullwhip useful is to focus on the great Martial Arts Techniques it gets and pump the dice pool of your Bullwhip so you can eat the called shot penalty.

The Bullwhip is STR + 2, right? So it's slightly worse than a sword but with enough STR you can still whip as hard as a shotgun blast for sure.
>>
What book is Renfield in? I'm having a hard time finding it.
>>
If you can't transform into the big beasts, like Behemoths or Juggernauts, what's the point of taking 3 levels of Skinwalker? No mundane creature will have a 18 Body difference unless it's a paracritter.

>>
>>53451862
There is historical precedence for buddhist priests being soldiers (sohei) or even violent criminals (such as the ikko ikki rebels).
Most of what I know of these comes from Japanese history but I'm sure if you did some research you could find a bunch of different examples.
>>
How stupid would it be to throw in Taiping Christians among the canon chinese waring states? I find the idea of a chinese christian theocracy to be oddly intriguing.
>>
>>53451862
I'm trying to think of a backstory or origin for a Buddhist Shadowrunner which is distinctly Buddhist, but I'm having trouble.

That being said, Buddhism is pretty broad and widespread, so you can fit it into a character's origin pretty easily without it being their primary defining characteristic.

Maybe a western Buddhist, like someone from a Wage Slave family who eats up new age stuff. Goes into Shadowrunning because they want to make a difference, take down the corruption oligarchy, etc, but finds it far more morally grey once they're in.

Or a character who finds Buddhism particularly comforting, like a Street Samurai trying to maintain their humanity while being a few implants away from Cyberzombie status. Meditates, patronizes local Shrines and teachers, etc.

Why is ritual spell casting so shit? Every ritual is incredibly niche, with the only possible exceptions being spirit pacts and the rituals involved.

Leeching is a ritual usable by all people with Geomancy, and it straight 100% converts hits on Ritual Spellcasting into hits on another magic test.
>>
>>53457445
Because if you're doing it right, it's either the way to big, big results with little risk (but high cost) or unusual effects that sometimes take more work than normal to get.

Like, Prodigal Spell, if your spotter can also do the astral scrubbing, is one of the safer ways to try assassinating somebody. It's also really expensive if you don't have a high force lodge available and had to make a temporary one.

Or if you need a defensive area, Circle of Healing or Renaisance can give you a good spot to defend from. Just have something to deal with grenades on hand.

Leeching can let you wear away at an enemy's bonus while giving you some bonus succeses which are usually hard to get.

Do you mean cyberzombie? Because cyberzombies are a little different. Also, how the hell is the decker controlling him?
>>
>>53465688
Cyberzombies, chummer. And they're really not meant for PCs, especially at chargen. There's unholy amounts of extremely expensive and rare 'ware, medical treatments, reagents, and magical rituals. It takes a team of people to create and sustain one, and even then it's tenuous at best. You're thinking of something more like some kind of psycho bio-drone or something, but I'm not even sure if we have a rules precedent for that.

Furthermore, such a character would probably be more of a rigger, not a decker, and they'd have to keep their original meat somewhere nearby to not get fucked by noise.
>>
>>53465688
>Tech zombie is what happens when you have too many augs
That's not actually a thing.

It's called cybermancy, and there's no "whoops, I accidentally all the augs! Now I have no soul!"

At Essence 0.0, your "soul" (astral form) loses grip on your body (physical form), and you die. Cybermancy staples the two together.

>Carcerand-plus is the nanotech version of carcerands, hollow molecular spheres designed to carry a drug payload that they slowly dispense as they circulate the body and break down over time. Normal carcerands are passive, designed to break down within a narrow period. Carcerand-plus triggers under either of two conditions. It can be tailored to respond to a certain chemical in the body, such as a certain food or drug, introduced from outside the body; the trigger condition must be specified before the nanites are installed. It is also triggered if its Rating is reduced to 0. Once triggered, carcerand-plus nanites release their payload into the bloodstream.

I said this in my first post, what they want is an anthrodrone, that they can control remotely. It's not the most effective build as drones are expensive and kind of fragile, but if you dress an anthrodrone in decent Metahuman armour because the don't take stun they become functionally bulletproof.

My buddies and I are playing tomorrow, they're awful at Shadowrun but I love playing with them.
>>
>>53464856
They could also opt for a detail of bunraku hooker razorgirls/boys if mechanical drones aren't their style.
>>
I offered to GM Shadowrun for some friends so our usual designated GM can play for once, but I have no practical experience with the system and came up with some alterations to get a workable game that starts at Goblinization and them having to roll for metatype changes after rolling humans. I think I fucked up by doing it instead of a properly set 5E campaign, but everyone's having fun so far.

So in the Run Faster Life Modules for college Academic Knowledge: (Chemistry, Medicine, Mechanics) are explicitly listed, how does this work when you have Chemistry, Medicine and Hardware as independent skills? Would you be able to use AK: Chemistry to cook up some Kamikaze just as well as if you had the regular skill?
>>
>>53468986
AK: Chemistry is knowing how to do it, Chemistry is actually being able to do it.
>>
>>53469004
Having the Chemistry skill also counts as the relevant knowledge skills, so...

Academic Knowledge is more about understanding the chemical processes. Street Knowledge would be knowing the common backyard processes used to create a given recipe. In either case you'd still use the Chemistry active skill. Some GMs allow using knowledge skills to act as teamwork tests for the Chemistry test, but in most cases knowledge skills are just for legwork and research purposes.

What's a good piece of armour for a shapeshifting magician? I need something that provides decent protection, but can be easily ditched and recovered after a run, or at the very least be replaceable easily.
>>

Lined coat. Armor 9, availability 4, stupid cheap. Throw it on, dump it off, easy-peasy.

Urban explorer jumpsuit is pretty good.
>>
>>53470035
Excellent piece of equipment, and my mage has a custom piece he ordered from the fine folks at YNT. It may not be easy for the purpose of slipping in and out of quickly, though, since it's a full-body armored jumpsuit. Gotta twist your arms back, get that zipper down, and claw out of it. Or however the fuck it's actually meant to work, since they don't go into any sort of depth as far as what equipment is actually like.
>>
>>53470078
It's precisely the complexity of getting in and out of it as to why I didn't recommend any of the jumpsuits or full-armor sets to >>53469881.

Yekka, why is it that the up/down arrows on attributes no longer show unless you mouse over them?

It's a relatively small thing, but honestly it looks a lot worse, and I could easily see new people not realizing they were there.

People got all salty about mouseover behaviour so I implemented another numericupdown thing, I kind of liked having it not show the updowns. I can change it or bind it to an option, I guess.
>>53469504
Haven't decided how I want to implement it. Easiest would be to make it a quality I guess, but I don't much like that.
>>
>>53470134
It looks massively better with them showing, honestly. It just leaves this weird lack of a thing being there if they don't show.

>>53470134
Maybe make it an option within the mentor spirit call up? It is tough in general though.

That works, it's as logical a place to put it as any.

Incidentally, made some tweaks to the drain value rendering to support the Mentor's Mask stuff. The drain value is already updated to include the bonus, but would you guys consider it helpful to include the bonus sources as well?
>>53470147
Reverted it to Always for now, when we get around to completing the new options branch I'll set everything to be dynamic.

I am so tired chummers. I can't enjoy the game anymore. I neither can nor wish to tell my other team mates what to do but the moment I stop everything goes to hell. Planning for the run have come down to me looking at this and trying to figure things out. At least some of them try to help but one just says how shit my plans are and gives none of his own. And this is killing me on the inside.
I dont think I can run the shadows any more...
>>
>>53473199
Let them plan
Tell them that you are tired of it and you want to see how they do
Give them advice how to do stuff but never actually do it for them ("Where do I search?" "Well, information on this kind of shit is found at X, Y, Z and W")
Make no plan, search for no info
Make precautions to get out if necessary

If they make it? Then you know that they at least can follow orders/search for themselves
If not? Well, too bad

CGL can't into properly designing their spirits (though I think Task Spirits can also heal if you give them the skill). Doesn't change the rules.

>The descriptions also include the type of spirits each tradition uses to perform particular functions, as well as the attributes they use for Drain. Mages of that particular tradition may only summon the spirits listed with the tradition, and they are restricted in the tasks they can assign them. Assigning tasks outside the general area of their tradition will not receive a response from the spirit (for example, a Buddhist mage telling an air spirit to heal him will get no response, as air is a Combat spirit in that tradition, while the Health spirit is earth).

>say, by pulling a breaker

There is no breaker switch to pull in 5e. Everything is interconnected and cloud-based, there are no server farms for someone to spill coffee on (or maybe there are, but everything is distributed so widely that blowing up a particular farm wouldn't take out a given host).

That said, if you go off Crash 2.0 and Data Trail rules about crashing a host via the Foundation, people in the host get dumped into the scaffolding or Foundation. No dump shock per se, but probably worse for you all things considered.

Unless you happen to be assaulting a software/hardware test lab. Don't want whatever it is you're testing rigged up to any more network than it absolutely has to be.

5th edition, Amsterdam. We have decker, mage, adept and the face being the critique saying there is nothing for him to do. I'm your regular street sam.
Last session was sneaking into a vory mansion and extracting a target before they can interrogate him. Adept was out so I took the part of physical infiltration.
So decker is on overwatch, mage is behind me warning me for astral. Face refused the offer to make some kind of distraction at the front so he stayed with the decker in the car.
All goes well I'm in the building, give direct connection to the decker and tell him to disable the drones when we make our escape. Get to the room, drop neurostun grenade. Some of the bodyguards are still standing and scream for help but I know them out fast. 4 more gurds come running but the decker have disable all warning systems so nothing else. Grab the target and start running while the guards start dragging people out.
In the same time Mage is making her way towards me while Decker takes control of the drones. What does he orders them? ”Ram people”. With mage being the closest target.
Im still in hoping the decker have disabled the drones. Grab my comllink and start running out.
Some guards show behind at open fire and enemy mage start throwing manabolts at me. Good thing our Mage survived the drones and showed right next to me. Physical barrier and and counterspelling cover my escape. But the mage decides to run away in the complete opposite direction of me while still dueling the enemy mage. Great.
Gets even better when I see 8 drones running behind me. Even better when the decker decides to speak dutch while we were pretending to be russians. Also the drones get nice recoding of the Face license place which he have not removed.
The best thing was the face speaking with the tone "life is suffering, existence is pain"

Europe got pretty fucked up in the Eurowars, and Germany got fractured enough for the F-State to arise, so I guess it's possible the Junkers came back. It's probably just some of their descendants cosplaying, just like the Tir Taingire """""Princes."""""" Becoming an animal tamer shouldn't be too hard, just go shaman or MysAdept, but don't think lizard taming will let you charm Lofwyr into giving you control of all of Deutschland.
