i need help.
i am working on Hoard of the Dragon Queen and can't find a standard size ( Miles measurement ) system so i know how far most of the towns are from each other.
Case-N-Point when my players are going for A to B i want work out the time it takes to travel so i can plan things out for them to do while on the trip.
(starting my players in Berdusk and then to Greenest )
also does the population being 70,000 people in berdusk sound like to much?
i think that is a LOT of people for a 3erd/5th edition game.

For Forgotten Realms specifically, find out how long it takes a player to go from Candlekeep to Baldur's Gate.
Figure the average person can walk about thirty miles per day (4 miles per hour)48.2 km per day or 6.4km per hourand you should be able to come up with a rough distance line.

The population of London in the 1377 was 23,314 taxpayers by the records of the time, and we can kind of figure that there was a total population of 40,000 including those taxpayers.
England wasn't the most populace place in 1300 but London wasn't small either, so make of all this what you will.Source is "The Time Traveler's Guide to Medieval England by Ian Mortimer, page 11. Good book.
tell us how this turns out for you

The scale on Forgotten Realms has been very inconsistent over the years.

is a reasonable scale, making the road from Waterdeep to Daggerford in about 135 miles or 150 miles.
In my games, on a good road and fast horses you can ride about 50 miles a day, and get from one to another in 3 days, reaching the destination near the end of the 3rd day.
