Just gonna take a moment to drop this off. A quick and dirty Initiating Mesmerist. It's designed to be used w/ the Vexing Daredevil archetype for actual proper swashbuckling, but should function perfectly fine on its own (I think). Would like to hear your thoughts on it, /pfg/.

Also, "Low Magic" settings are just as harmful to Martials as it is to casters, perhaps even more so, sinnce the game is built around the expectation you have X magic items to be competent at your job

Question for DMs:
I've got an Incanter PC with the Weather sphere. As of the last level-up, they're capable of stacking three severity 7 effects with a single casting.
This is a boat-based campaign, and they have in the past used Weather to fuck over ships.

Now that they can drop tornado-strength lightning-blizzards on ships, I'm sure that at some point they'll try to drop half a day of hell on somebody.
What would a high-quality warship (8th level or so top crew) have that would likely be able save their asses?

I wonder how much of an effect on the main story does this dimensional peeling effect play on the overall setting and if it can be ignored? That said, I do like the idea of various bits and pieces of other planes showing up in there for some reason or another. or rhater, my original interpretation in that it weakens the bonds between planes thus allowing celestials and demons/devils/etc easier access into our plane of existence.

Hey, have you ever wondered if in a certain game that's not out yet, concentration checks might not exist, making readied actions and continuous damage extremely dangerous to spellcasters because any amount of damage at all during casting means a spell automatically fizzles?

It seems to be more for the GM to use so far. You get helped and a quest from the nicer outsiders you pull in, you get teleported to the next big mission place 'accidentally', or the GM has had enough and throws baddies at you in an attempt to TPK.

You could mess around with it a few times and have the players re-roll race when coming out or messing with some of them by shrinking them.

Hunter seems like a gimped Ranger. Is it actually better than what it seems?

>>53421837
But still enough of a martial bent thanks to those teamwork feats that it can be built as a warrior-type with spells to support it, which is also very good.

The only things the Hunter doesn't replace are the weapon style and favored enemy, and there's literally now feats that replace favored enemy.
>>
>>53421819
If you like animal companion and teamwork feats. Primal Companion Hunter is supposed to be good though.
>>
>>53421868
Or, you could just get that one spell as a wand or something and make ANY creature your favored enemy.
>>
>>53421881
Which you can actually pick up as a Hunter, since you can ransack the Ranger spell list and run away laughing.

Ranger actually has some awesome spells, they're just crippled by being in a class that doesn't actually want to cast anything. outside of a few things. Allfood and Gravity Bow are excellent examples of that, and hunter gets access to them earlier and with more ease of casting than ranger.

Looking at the Ranger list, they actually get a few things earlier than other classes do; animal Growth at level 4, for instance, and Named Bullet at level 3

An actual ranger can't pick up Named Bullet until level 10; if they haven't pumped Wisdom, they can't even cast it until level 11. Hunter, meanwhile, can grab it at level 7; the same level as a wizard (earlier than a sorcerer!), but the Hunter is much more capable of using the spell properly. Particularly if they've picked up a musket or something.

I like to dip into gunslinger. Getting a bunch of deeds, a free gun, gunsmithing, and that sort of thing is pretty valuable, even if you don't stick with the class. It's also a full BAB, 10 HD class, with two good saves and decent (though not great) skills.

If I were to make a build around it, I'd probably go with a Trench Fighter that has a one level dip into Gunslinger, since that'd let me snag all the feats I need for the "archery" combat style and gives me dex-to-damage with specific guns ahead of time.

I like the details about the Triune we get here; hearing about Casandalee being confirmed to have gained divinity is great.

Having a generally tech-based god is going to be good for me, since one of my furst character concepts was the fairly obvious android mechanic.

If later, what niche needs to be filled. Just like in Overwatch and DotA, people tend to ignore playing the Healer.

PS, Zenyatta is the bestest Healer. I get frags for days.
>>
>>53422480
I try not to do something that's too much like everyone else--though I tend to end up with something popular anyhow.

If there's something that looks like a pretty sure bet, I try to make something that complements their build. Or I just try for something that looks underrepresented, like casting or healing or ranged damage.
>>
>>53422470
>Soul Mechanic
I find it very interesting. Whenever you mix science and fantasy like this (and even sometimes when it's pure fantasy, like in Eberron) the question of constructs having souls comes up. I think it's something to play with - my character in particular is going to be worshipping the Triune half because she doesn't quite believe any of the others would deal with an android soul, The thought of dying is terrifying to her.

>Previous owners of the body
Nah, I was planning on having my character be fresh out of the creation pods or whatever.

>turning yourself into a hot rod
I'm honestly curious how customizable android bodies are going to be, because realistically speaking body mods for both appearance and ability make sense when tech companies (and thus a huge number of other, less connected people) have an understanding of how the body works, both for organics and synthetics.

At worst I have to rely on cybernetic limb replacements and just fluff them as body mods, but will I be doing that either way? Absolutely.

There's a few really interesting things we can infer from this statblock they provided of the ship in that post.

>Tier 1/3
they've said before that ships will be split into five tiers that roughly correlate to 4 standard levels, so a tier 3 ship is basically levels 9-12, so this being a 1/3 tier caught me by surprise; I imagine it means three of these should be a reasonable challenge for a tier 1 ship, sort of like how CR works. This worries me, because it basically confirms CR is still around and, at least for ships, it's even broader and less accurate.

Size and ship type. If a medium ship is standard, this thing is literally the size of a cat in comparison to it, as long as the sizes continue to carry over from standard creatures. Racer is interesting; I imagine it means a ship built for speed and handling over anything else.

>AC 15; TL 14
AC should be obvious, but what precisely is TL? Target Lock?

>HP 20; DT ---: CT 4
HP is self evident, but what is DT? I think CT is probably critical threshold.

>Shields basic 10 (forward 3, port 2, starboard 2, aft 3)
I wonder what effect shields will have on gameplay.

>Power Core Micron Heavy (70 PCU)
This tells us ship customization is limited by what seems to be three things:
1) Available space in the ship
2) Available power for systems
3) Available item slots

>CREW
Looks like this is a section for crew slots, defining how many people can be working on a given position at a time, and it provides bonuses to the pilot based on equipped gear and type of ship? interesting. this also basically flat out tells us that one-man ships will be a thing, so if any of you want to get your ace pilot on, you can. I imagine taking down a much larger ship in a tiny fighter will feel amazing.
>>
So I plan on making a Duetist Bard. At level 6 I can do the following:

>Thrush Infiltrator Familair
>Harmonizing Familiar
>Weird Words

It has a +30 something to stealth and when it activated Weird Words that's a sudden 6d8+30 damage to a target from a bird. I plan on using this for domestic terrorism.
>>
Something I have in my settings, players got really angry about it, want opinions.

>the most common kinds of familiars are small animals
>the NPC casting class gets a familiar
>this means familiars are common enough most folks get a vague awareness of what they are/are like
>because of this thieves become paranoid that random animals can relay information to their masters
>career thieves, soldiers, etc. develop a habit over time of killing every small animal they see, just in case
>you can tell someone who deals with magic via a dislike of small animals
>>
>>53422974

Depending on how many wizards are running around, that's entirely reasonable, and even classic. a lot of older stories have dark lords being whispered to by their animal spies - the Wheel of Time has a great example with carrion birds being spies for the darkness, and the borderlands had a tradition of shooting any that they saw so they couldn't report back.

Seems like it's the same concept here, just writ large. I say keep it; it's a nice bit of flavor description.
>>
>>53422996
Not just wizards. The NPC casting class, adepts, get familiars as well. There are plenty of them around.

>>53422992
They knew a thief with the habit but never really asked about why he would kill birds.
>>
>>53423015
And any gang or mercenary group worth their salts is going to see about getting a few adepts working with them, if for no other reason than because having magical healing on tap is super fucking important to a group that regularly needs to fight people.

I'd say make it fairly common among the more experienced warriors and rogues, but not so common as to be common knowledge (since they want their own adepts to be free to do whatever, and making the killing habit common knowledge flies in the face of that). they have a vested interest in doing the thing and getting others to do it, but never explaining the why.
>>
>>53423053
It's more common among people currently or used to acting alone rather than in groups for that very reason.
>>
>>53423058
Then yeah, you're fine, let your players be pissed. They'll get over it.

As a bit of flavor description, if there's a a group of people that hate casters, it's not a bad idea to have them kill small animals like crows, hawks, and weasels and pin them in visible places as a warning to mages that they aren't welcome.
>>
>>53422974
No this is entirely reasonable in fact it survives as a metatrope. Vermin were bad luck for other reasons (among others they ate all your goddamn grain for next spring), but the whole 'glowing eyes watching in the dark' shit directly references rats, cats, ravens, etc. that are either familiars of witches or the witches themselves.
I imagine it's certainly a common practice for experienced thieves, esp. those infiltrating locations that have a good chance to have mages in them like noble houses or old crumbling towers, to kill literally every small animal that's lingering for too long near them.
>>
I'm slowly introducing a different kind of magic system into the game. It is incompatible with normal magic, but they can affect each other. Just now, a highly trained person developed a scroll to detect such magic, let's call it old magic.
The campaign is around the classic "return of old shit" idea, and I want my players to interact with it personally. They went around smashing shit already, fighting it (because it obviously wants to destroy the world or so they think), but they don't use it themselves.

What is the best way to incorporate these effects without turning everything upside down? If anyone can get it, it would be too much, but if not, why would they?

If the Old Gods are coming back then it's extremely likely they're coming back in patches. Perhaps only champions chosen by the gods can understand it. Maybe you need to study their old form, as opposed to arcane writings in common use today (think reading ancient Persian scrolls or Chinese texts or Sanskrit engravings instead of Greek volumes). Or maybe the influence of 'old magic' needs to grow to a certain point in an area, as affected by quests, at which point normal magic and old magic 'swap places', acting as an AMF for each other.

I want to try making healers great again, and I'm going to base it on Chloromancers from mmo rifts. So I have to ask first, just how much can you boost a save DC?

I want an ability based on infecting enemies and triggering it to siphon health. Idea was that you hit them with your standard, then as a swift you activate ALL infections. To get un-infected, they have to save on their turn, scaling penalties for how little time they take to do so (auto success for a full round, bonus as a standard, normal as a move, penalty as a swift)

I dunno, wouldn't that make most of the Full Caster PrCs, like Arclord, Magaambyan, and Winter Witch, even more absuredly potent?

Also, how would that work with classes that require you to split focus to use them like Mystic Theurge? Would that just allow you to advance one of te class's casting while normally advancing the other, so you'll be getting 8th casting from TWO different sources?

I dunno about this. While it would make playing a non-fullcaster even more viable with a PrC, at the same time full time casters will just benefit absurdly from this.
>>
Question: When does flat-footed end if it's not specified?
Like, here's a situation:
A rogue pops out of the darkness and attacks a guard. The guard is flat-footed because he did not know the rogue was there. The rogue's hit is a sneak attack. The rogue now hits again, because he can, and... is the guard still flat-footed, or did he cease to be flat-footed when he was hit initially?
>>
>>53427581
Arclord, Magaambyan Arcanist, Hellknight Signifer, Brewkeeper, Holy Vindicator (if Oradin), Winter Witch (due to RAW exploit), and I think a few of the deity specific ones from that Paths of the Righteous book

The guard is flat-footed until he can detect where the attack is coming from.

>>
>>53427612
In the middle of combat or as a surprise round sneak attack?
If it's in the middle of combat, the guard is only FF against the first attack. If in surprise round, and the rogue rolls higher than the guard in the initiative order and full attacks on the first normal round, the guard is still FF against all the attacks.

You go ahead and ignore reality.
>>
>>53428370
Explain to me what justifies Aasimar more than a Minotaur? Considering that Aasimar have great racials and no score penalties
>>
>>53428547
>not witch hunting and making retarded assumptions
>ignoring reality
Shouldn't you go back to hate-fapping to DHB or something?
>>
>GM only allows certain races because it's his setting
>/pfg/ goes into a fucking butthurt spiral
See, this is why I don't run a game for you fucks. You get butthurt over literally any form of restriction during character creation.
>>
>>53428646
It's not even /pfg/ getting butthurt, it's one idiot.
>>
>>53428646
It's one autist screeching over "muh tieflings/aasimars" and "minotaurs REEE". This isn't remotely the same level of autism as that Iron Gods ban list.
>>
>>53428646
What type of game do you run, campaigns?

>>53428791
I thought it was Kitsuné OP getting mad because the Minotaur isn't cute in their opinion
>>
>>53428579
>retarded assumptions
>wants furries and not humanoids
>>53428804
No, it's furry. Plain and simple.
>>
>>53428646
>butthurt
Here, let me lay it out.
>>53421377 asked which campaign would be best to be a furry in.
I said Golden Chalice, because minotaurs are explicitly allowed. I brought up Tieflings/Aasimars later because it reinforced the original point.
>>
>>53428842
Tieflings and Aasimars can both be furry, is what confuses the fuck out of me.
>>
>>53428842
>>53428825
But wouldn't a furry WANT Aasimar and Tieflings, since Agathion and Beastrbrood bloodlines exist?

Checkmate witch hunter
>>
>haven't played or GMed in ages
>previous groups fall apart due to schedules
>been over a year since playing
>acquire g/f
>g/f wants learn to play, actually enjoys the role playing
>fuck it time to GM again
>get small group together
>can only guarantee that I can get Sundays off work
>issues with scheduling first session but things are looking okay
>g/f's grandfather has cancer
>he's getting a lot worse
>she now has to see him frequently
>All of her Sundays are going to be spent spending time around him
>Game put on hold till this is over

I just wanted to play /tg/, I just wanted to play.

Since my Sundays have been freed up I am considering going back to PFS in the mean time, just to get my fix.
Ideas for a character to piss off the autists that frequent my area's PFS?
>>
I hope PLD goes well today! Anyone got the scoop on whats on their docket?
>>
>>53428804
>What type of game do you run, campaigns?
The one I thought about was a rock and roll roadtrip style campaign where the party is one of many small cabals/mercenary groups/etc. chasing after a series of artifacts that are being uncovered in sequence across a continent.
>>
>>53428886
God Wizard or Archer Inquisitor.
>>
>>53428886
>characters to piss off autists at PFS

Anything resembling a competent martial will trigger a PFS autist. I hear the best use of PFS is to screen for players to bring to home games, since the PFS rules are retarded.
>>
>>53428917
.........Mighty Quest?
>>
So I made a character for Fangwood. He has a +15 to all knowledge skills basically made to do every Int based skill for the party. Do you guys think 15 will be enough to be relevant?
>>
>>53428963
yes
>>
>>53428943
I based the campaign as a more fantastic version of an old Unknown Armies campaign I ran. So it's more down to earth and gritty with the groups in vicious competition with one another.

Will starfinder have outer planes and outsiders still?

How should I play my kobold alchemist ?
What should be his personnality/backstory ?
>>
>>53428917
That sounds cool. After playing some HotS, I'd like the chance to play a Metal Minotaur.

>>53428985
Yes, it's linked above. It's entirely possible to crash you ship into some outsiders house.

You used to be the apprentice alchemist for youe Warren, responsible for helping maintain the poison traps and various fungal reagents.

Then some adventurers came in nd destroyed everything, while you survived by hiding under the bodies of your kin.

Now, you have left the warren to gain knowledge and skills, and to eventually avenge your warren by killing the fiends that destroyed all you once held dear.

You are now he party's reoccurring villain

Dafuq?
I added minotaurs as a playable a because I had been binge-playing Heroes Of Might and Magic 3 and M&M VIII Day of the Destroyer while originally making the setting. I was working on trolls as well, but that got the shaft due to them being a meh fit in the desert.
>>
>>53429005
You're a member of one of the Kobold tribes that have converted to Molthuni Citizenship, and has joined up with an Irregulars Demolition Troop.

To you, there's nothing quite like the smell of Alchemist Fire in the morning
>>
>>53429240
But aren't the trolls Might and Magic specifically desert dwelling people?
>>
>>53429240
Sorry ChaliceGM, the top minds of /pfg/ have spoken.

It's because you're a furry who hates fun.
>>
>>53429244
They sound familiar, but can you remind me on who the Molthuni are?

how is winning encounters for the party going to piss them off? When I used to play I accidentally made an OP sorcerer, most of them were happy if I carried them through an encounter.
>>53428941
>Anything resembling a competent martial will trigger a PFS autist.
hmm maybe a gnomish cavalier or mounted halfing archer?
>I hear the best use of PFS is to screen for players
Already got a group ready so to speak, just not sure when we will be able to play, but yes, I actually met one of the players through PFS
>>
>>53429462
Can you not? PLD doesn't deserve attention
>>
>>53429439
Originally a forest species apparently. Chased out by rampaging basilisks. Never made much sense to me that a species vulnerable to fire would live in the desert o.O

>>53429444
Alas, I am defeated. Woe betide me, however shall I live?
I find the notion of shoehorning the entire kitchen sink of races into a campaign setting just because they exist in the rules for some setting somewhere incredibly boring. So yeah, I apparently do hate fun because I like my settings to make sense.

Why haven't you played a Spiritualist with the Kindness Emotional Focus yet, /pfg/?

>A phantom with this emotional focus was a being with a generous heart in life and continues to remain that way well after death. The phantom’s intense generosity compels it to remain a phantom and continue assisting the living, especially relatives or those who had been its good friends during its living years. Kindness phantoms have pleasant and gentle demeanors and speak with a melodic cadence, putting most who see them at ease. Their auras are bright emerald green with occasional fluctuating scarlet or golden hues.

It makes perfect sense. Unless it is a rainforest, they are prone to bursting into flame every year or so, potentially trapping and suffocating you.

Now look at a place like the Nile in Egypt still plenty of water and shade to beat the heat without worrying about forest fires
>>
>>53429638
Well thought out characters by people who've read the info on the setting and didn't immediately ask me about their favorite class/race that isn't on the list without even reading.
>>
>>53429760
Then you will probably find the notion that the city's next door neighbour is a mix of not!Egypt and not!Persia that also has trolls guarding what are essentially pyramids and temples.

What's frustrating is that every time I dump stuff from my setting, I either get completely ignored or told that I'm an autistic faggot. It's not even about the money (although that would be nice), it's the fact that nothing I post is even worthy of a (you) but some clod will make money off it. So no, pass. I'm keeping my shit under lock and key.
