>Also, while we’re on the subject of rules, we’ve some great news – the core rules for Warhammer 40,000 will be available for free! You’ll be able to download the Battle Primer PDF on games-workshop.com and warhammer40000.com from June 17th.

>Core rules will be available for free!
Rejoice Poorfags!! New Games Workshop™ noticed you.

Now the only question is how much the actual rulebook's going to cost everyone, and how badly everyone's wallet is going to bleed money over this...

This basically shows the problem I have with """"""bespoke"""""" rules. Death Guard gain what is basically now feel no pain. Guarantee they won't be the only units to have a rule just like it, but it'll be called something else. It's so much easier to name them the same rule, so when your opponent says "they have feel no pain" you can think oh, I know what that is, my units have that, too. Instead, it'll be "I have disgustingly resilient" and then they'll have to explain what it is, and then you say "oh, that's just like my feel no pain rule". USRs were a good thing, and they could keep those while still putting all the rules on the datasheets

As an Eldarfag, being OP is only fun for the first few matches of an edition. After that, the fun of winning in spite of playing sloppy/having shitty rolls followed by nobody playing against you except the most extreme of WAACfags gets old really fast.
I really hope we see new Pheonix lord models in the next year or so though, they're starting to look a bit silly.

Had a different game today, custom mission: save the warlord. Three players, each had a 'warlord' (objective marker) in one of the others deployment zone which was worth 3 points if you held it at the end, the other 2 were worth one, plus FB SLWL LB etc. 2 aspect-heavy CWE and 1 fairly optimised AdMech+Skittles list, 1100 points each.

Other Eldar player stole initiative from AdMech, I went last. Eldar guy went full-force at
AdMech, killed his 2 Kastelans and 1 Breacher. AdMech dude struck back at him, killed his Serpent and a couple scatbikes, plus 2 of my Scorpions. On my turn I bagged 2 Breachers and some of his sniper dudes, I forget their name, plus assualted Eldar guys Warp Spiders with the Scorps and killed 3 out of 5, they failed their H&R.

Turn 2, Eldar 1 and AdMech kept hammering at each other, my army was mostly untouched. From here on I pretty much kerbstomped, took out the Dunecrawler with my Hornet, took out a shitload of Dire Avengers with a lucky Prism Cannon shot, killed the rest of the snipers and Breachers with Vypers and Bikes.

I learned today that 40k does not lend itself well to 3-way battles, the game was pretty much over by turn 3. You guys have any good games lately?

So if euros roughly equal US Dollars like they did in the past, we're talking

>$45 main rulebook (with all the old expansion books like cities of death and planetstrike included)
>$20 "codexes" covering multiple factions
>Starter box price is roughly the same as always

Nice, $45 is about average for a hardback rulebook in the 280 page range with that much stuff in it, and the codexes at $20 is about right too.

GW prices matching the industry standard for the most part, be still my beating heart. Now we just need model prices to go down a bit and the ruleset to not suck and GW could actually get back on top.

Played a 2v1 game at 1500pts. My Iron Warriors and a friend's Blood Angels teamed up with 750 points each to fight 1500 of Orks. I lost six regular marines and my Termi sorcerer warlord. The BAngels player lost most of his terminators and a large number of tacticals.

In the end my Contemptor proved pivotal in surviving lots of enemy attacks and destroyed two eight man squads of lootas and burnas along with their truks. One lone chaos marines survived melee combat with a biker warboss just long enough for both of our Terminator squads to get in and relieve the warboss of his head. I made a disgusting number of FnP rolls against the lootas.

Based on the encounter by some Blood angels on a captured Imperial ship when they were attacked by feral, Ork-worshipping humans during the Beast Arises novels, some people have treated digga as a catch-all term for 'humies who worship Orks/Gork n' Mork'.
Or Wulfen.

First of all 8th edition isn't the only existence of fantasy.

The issue with the Necrons is that they are Newcrons which means they are retarded because you guys wanted them to have "personality". So instead of getting shit done, they act like autistics and play with their legos I mean like the Royal Court of Thanatos aka Keepers of the Celestial Orrey who in their wisedom knew about the threat of the Eye of Terror and the plight of the Pylons but choose to do nothing because their job as custodians of the galaxy means that they must cling to inaction. So new novel is coming out about set after the Gathering Storm abouyt Ultramar being besieged by the 7th Legion also known as the Death Guard.

This raises a lot of question one of them is....WHY DOES MORTY HAS SUCH A GRUDGE ON GIRLY? They barely interacted in the HH. One would think that Morty would go after the Grey Knights after his humbling at their hands. This was hinted at in the Pandorax material and Plague Grenade lore. But suddenly we see him going after Ultramar for no raisen.

Anyways new Guy Haley novel so it got my hype.

A faction focus isn't nearly enough information to judge an army's overall effectiveness on. People are getting excited by the previews, but they are just little glimpses lacking context.

Sure, if they say 'orks get mob rule which lets them substitute the number of models in a unit for their leadership during morale tests', that would be a good sign and if they said 'you get +1 Ld if you have twenty orks in a unit' that would be a bad one, but it's still possible for points costs to make up for rules like that.

My thought is the culture of isolationism is very influential in non-compliant Chapters. Due to their "deviancy" they've had to come to rely on themselves. Because of that they, like the Imperium as a whole, don't like change. The addition of a new type of Marine will likely be received in much the same manner as a modified tank is by the Admech. It may in time become accepted, but at first the detractors are going to be in the majority.

I think most people refer to the big centerpiece models, the distribution if abilities (big heroes with mass rules while minions get none other than being redhirts) , the very clean visual design, the way buffs are represented in the rules, characters going on their own and not being in units anymore, characters being protected by said minions and similar things when saying 40k turned moba

We can all go "Oh FUCK" and see the speech on the news but then the best option is for us all to keep on going without mentioning it again. The media obsesses about covering it when it's exactly the desired effect. Of course its shitty to the victims and those related, but panicking and making a fuss is how they win.

You guys think the necron reanimation protocols will stay the same in 8e? I prefer it the way it used to be, before it was just a better FNP roll after every wound. Do you think theres hope for rules changing back? It seemed to fit better with the fluff having them fall down and stand back up at the end of the phase

no, free rules is to get people to play their game. "getting into 40k is super easy, the rules are free" THATS why companies do that. Also I imagine fluff/hobby stuff will also be in the book.

That's pretty much my opinion too, and I also rock the Mech. It's even more fun with 30k Mechanicum, where they nearly always rock up with the exact same Spartan Deathstar w/ Primarch, double Leviathan dread in pods, minimum troops list. So easy to defeat with the vast majority of Mech lists with all our haywire and tarpits.

Do you get that nice warm feeling when you realize you just killed a good few percentage points of the Chapter while losing nothing of any importance to the Mech too? Makes playing horde/expendable armies fun, I suppose.

They're fundamental for an effective strategy. Farsight enclave has pretty cool formations you can use even if you don't have a farsight army, like the drone net (full markerlights). They shoot markerlights at bs+1!

If you can position the markerlights well and bait your opponent like the cowardly fucks we are, you'll be pretty deadly. Mind you that more experienced players will instantly try to destroy the markerlight source to cut your legs off and make you weaker. Respond accordingly with deepstriking units and such. Tau can be used for some pretty nice strats if you're not a weaboo cheeselord who fields a stormsurge in a 1000pts game.

the core rules are free, but its for open games, without points, detatchment and so on. if you want to play your regular game you have to get the rulebook and a index book. so basically you now pay the same about for a index and rulebook as you would have if you paid for a rulebook alone in 7th. so 85$ for competetive play including death from the skies, oribtal onslaught, cities of death and all other expansions (they are included in the rulebook allready)

It might just be all the marine players in my area are cunts apart from 2 or 3 but the special homebrew chapters piss me off, no flaws and all the shiny toys.

There goes brother whatshisface and the other one and by the end of it I've caused a huge loss to the chapter and he killed some mass produced Kataphrons.

I think I should have just played nids at this point honestly.
>>
>>53397300
its easier to use than a tape measure for distances that you know come up alot. it also allows you to reach into the thick of all your models to get more accurate measurements.

For example, models count as engaged when they're within one of another unit, so rather than get the tape measure out, you'd have that ready and you can just put it inbetween the models to see if their within 1. I use one for malifaux, but that game's longest range is like...10 inches. so for 40k, where you might be measuring distances of 2feet+ its much less useful.

Also, in good GW fashion, theirs is 40 Canadian dollars (the sigmar one) which is fucking insane for a 3 inch peace of plastic.

for a youngblood that simply wants to have fun he can play with the free rules and free unit profiles (as in age of sigmar, profiles are downloadable content on the GW page)

for people that want to play competetively with points its 85$ compared to 126$ currently. not to forget you also get 5 addons aswell (which you also had to pay around 30-40$ each previously for) so you safe alot more actually.

Well, they all have Fly (duh) and a maximum and minimum flight distance. We're not sure how they handle turns, though. Since the rules leak said any unit that leaves the table is presumed destroyed ("due to either stalling out or being forced to abandon the battle" GW's words, not mine) we are faced with one of two possibilities:

>Flyers will have to carefully plan their turns which will make most flyer paths end up as endless loops and figure eights around the edges of the table.
or
>Flyers can change direction instantaneously now.

Don't expect to see much from the Death from the Skies supplement. I doubt they'll reference a supplement that nobody wanted, liked, or played after release.

Nonsense. Scions, as others have said, are part of the IG. But I betcha that since IG is going to have different regiments (Cadia, Armageddon, Krieg, etc) that one of the optional regiments in question will be "Tempestus Scions"

I'd also bet good money that taking the "Tempestus Scions" regiment gives you scions as troops and bonuses like closer deep strikes. And who knows what kind of Strategems a Scion Regiment gets.

>super special custom blank psyker chapter master
Is that an actual thing they came up with? That's hilarious. Storytime about the funny ones please.
My fleet has some super special snowflake fluff for the Heresy mech, but my one concession to giving unique abilities to my dudes was to make my Archmagos a shitty fighter but let him resurrect after a fashion to make my expendability complete, and I killed him off eventually anyway.

Especially when fucking Guilliman Himself shows up and is grievously wounded or killed by throne a million KatDs. That was hilarious. I lose way more often with my haphazard Elim Manip/Dom Manip/Skit Manip list to Gman more often than win, but it's great fun when I do.

And fighting my friend's Unending Host or Orks, where neither of the armies mean fucking anything to anyone, so we can just sit back and have a glorious butcherfest with Vanguard and Infiltrators tearing apart wave after wave of cultists/Boyz as they slowly grind me down. SO damn satisfying, I don't even care who wins in the end, just that a lot of stuff died.

Record is 436 kills to the Admech and 45 kills to the Renegades, over 5 turns where I was eventually tabled.

As a guard player I can say it's great fun. I played a game with an (awsome, he's my favorite opponent) DA player who brought a Generic Chapter Master, a Librarian, 5 terminators, a tactical squad with plasma, and 3 bikes. I think it was a starter kit or something because it felt very all-over-the-place.

Anyways, it had such glorious moments as:
>3 Terminators with power fists and a chain fist charging a Chimera...and missing 7 times...and bouncing off the rear armor twice.
>Multiple failed plasma gets hot checks
>An entire 5 man tactical squad wondering in front of an idle Leman Russ Exterminator and getting creamed.
>My entire remaining army packing up in transports and just leaving off his side of the board while the lone chapter master runs after them with a sword.

We played again later and he did much better. But his terminators seem hellbent on either rolling all-sixes or all-ones.
>>
>>53398008
it is an easy mistake to make since hardly anyone fields assault marines in a DA list. Ravenwing options are almost always better.

Always the way with 2+ saves. I wish I could field transports, though. Vanguard in Chimeras is something I've tried before and it's great fun, I just want some form of vehicle. I'd take Trukks, or Rhinos, or Chimeras, I'd love Goliaths. Just something to give our leg machine spirits a rest.

It is funny when they completely forget that low cost units exist. I had a moment where someone fired two whole grav-bike squads (about 10 Gravguns in total) at my Null Zoned Dominus, he only took one wound thanks to lucky LoS and FnP and he proceeded to ignore the one remaining Vanguard, who proved that an error by shooting down his Biker Librarian AND the Biker Sarge in the most outrageously lucky volley I've ever seen. Good job there, made about fifteen times his points back.

SM players, how much is a ML2 Biker Librarian plus a Biker Sarge, both with combigravs, again? I don't know the SM book well.

>>53398077

I'm not starting anything because I'm already drowning in shit. However:

>Sisters of Battle
My oldest army is already looking great because T3 3+ is a lot better against T5 now. On top of that, meltas are still sick and moving with heavy weapons is great when you can pack 5 BS4 multi-meltas into a command squad. Let's not forget immolators getting a huge buff from Twin link. However, Seraphim are my favorite unit, and I am fucking excited that they can finally do what they do in fluff and go full equilibrium.

>Tzeentch Daemons
My second oldest army started in 5th. They've been on the shelf for awhile now because they're not fun for anyone involved. However, they are probably going back to their old ways, especially since they have their 4++ again. I hope they get some shooting back again, but otherwise, I'll have fun stripping mortal wounds.

>Night Lords
More recent. They're a 30k/40k army that I started because I was given an amazing deal on the HH sets (I paid less than $300 for 2 B@C and 1 BoP), and they've been my main focus as of late. The change to Chainswords is huge for CSM because they've always had the option for Chainswords, but raptors are going to be sweet. I just want to know what Fear is going to do damn it.

>Dark Eldar
They're a side project I bought on a whim a trust before my night lords because I ha the money, and I had always wanted to play them. I have a bunch of shit, but not a lot of assembled. I'm excited about gunboats and scourges, but wyches look hella still, which makes me sad. I'm hoping hellions are actually good, too.

The more I see of these primarines, the more I am convinced they must have weaponized autism or something. Even the jump pack equipped dudes have shooting weapons, instead of melee weapons. They are larger, stronger marines, which is almost exclusively an advantage in hand to hand combat, yet only the leaders seem to have actual close combat weapons.

If you build bigger, tougher, stronger marines only for them to use better ranged weapons, you would have been way better off using those resources equipping Imperial guard veterans with high quality armour and the same improved ranged weaponry. Those veterans can aim just as well, and in ranged combat it is way more beneficial to be a smaller target, rather than a larger one. Or even just equip regular marines with the better ranged weapons.

I just can't get over the fact that primarines only advantages are in hand to hand combat, yet all we see of them is squads with ranged weapons.

Yeah. The new assault marines are particularly dumb. You spend all that time constructing these huge jump packs and specialized landing gear in order to hold the numarine's even larger armor and weight, and all you do is give him two bolters?

Surely if you have a jump pack that strong, you could just strap it to a terminator with an assault cannon and ruin everyone's day forever.
>>
>>53398918
They sure look oversized enough to count as thunderhammers. The boltrifles look nice but are like four times too large.

>>
>>53398103

>>
>>53399152
Yeah well every starter set is always comically in favour of the loyalist marines. Though if the local 40k community is anything to go by getting some Death Guard models off people who just want the primarines for cheap isn't gonna be hard.

Still have no idea why people like them ... outside of the truescale autists ofcourse.
>>
>>53399127
Tangentially related: I've noticed a fair few people at my FLGS bringing in large numbers of units via ziploc bags or plastic jewelrymaking boxes (the transparent ones with all of the little compartments).

Since I'm kind of desperate for space in my bag, would 'Ardcoating my dudes after I finish painting them make this practice not absolutely degenerate?
>>
>>53399206
Already splitting box, friend wanted primaris marines so im selling them off for 40 bucks, spikey bits leals told me big book was 80 bucks so my thought process was both armys were 40 a piece and the bool was the other half of the price
>>
>>53399218
Only a little bit. If you cherish the paint on your models and don't want to see if erode, you'll still need proper foam for transport and varnish as well.

Anon please they look like old Seraphim models but even more derpy.

Give them a jump pack and give the flying gear to humans that actually avoid Melee and use hit and run tactics.

Now that Imperium is just one massive thing it is just unit overlapping.
>>
>>53399328
Which will probably just be a large Movement value and the Fly keyword.

Which makes me wonder if there will be any difference between jump and jet packs next edition
>>
>>53399341
Just wait for the plastic seraphim.

They're going to look just as retarded

Agreed that it is a stupid overlap though.
>>
>>53399328
Except from what we've seen, unit types are gone, and the Fly keyword is in its place.

The only advantage these have over assault marines at the moment is being able to Fall Back and shoot with what I assume will be assault bolters with some special issue ammo.

I really hope they don't bring JSJ back for anyone.
