There, they find an elevator that takes them to the center of the earth where prehistoric cavemen have captured all the scientists. They have to save their parents and survive until the elevator returns to pick them up.

>Someone stole my bike. Someone took aunt Mary’s toaster. Now, the minivan is gone. The kids find a trail of half-eaten metal objects leading to the closed down printers.

>The forests seem to be moving. Gardens are dying and new plants that we’ve never seen before are taking their place. An infertile botanist is at the centre of it all.

Curious, the kids discover the train is importing human shells with no consciousness. Worst, after hopping town on the train, they discover the town is a quarantined generational experiment.

From my experiences (two whole fugging sessions!) these games go better when you think smaller, weirder, and not adversarial. Don't pit your kids against "bad guys" or other sources of direct physical harm. Make it largely about problems that a kid might find challenging to deal with (largely due to limited resources), but an adult might be able to figure out easily. Setting the game in the 80s like it should be made for interesting results as players had to go to the library to look things up and not having cellphones for communication made games more tense. Also remember that these kids are still kids and they have kid motivations, like wanting to play video games or needing to get home in time for dinner.
The best moments have occurred when players have to pool their resources together to eek out a solution.

>They say if you open up and crawl into one of those spherical pods you'll end up in a distant place. Technically they're wrong. You'll end up in a distant time.

>The bees on the island start acting weird. Experts think some kind of fungus is running through the hives, but when a kid figures out how to communicate with them, it turns out they've unionized and have a list of demands.

>After a water main break, half the town is left without water for a weekend. Those who try the taps anyway find a sweet smelling, pink foam coming out of their faucets. Your crew was supposed to have a water gun fight. Now what?

>A drifter comes into town and claims to be a skald. The kids catch him singing and strumming to an audience of squirrels, chipmunks, and rats in the woods.

>Rumors float around about Bigfoot hiding in the woods. Actually, it's a gorilla with machinery in its head on the run from the scientists. How do the kids send it back to Africa?

>The kids start playing this newfangled D&D roleplaying game. Is that just a science experiment out in the distance, or a battle between two wizards? A weather balloon, or a Beholder? It's all fun and games until they spot an Owlbear in the woods.

>In the scrapyard there's a broken car that talks to you. Says its name is Tom and he can't feel his legs. The car's back half is missing.

>They say there's a dinosaur hiding out in the desert. You've passed the period when you were obsessed with dinosaurs, but your friend's younger brother has not. You made the mistake of mentioning it to the younger brother and now he's gone missing, footprints leading into the sand.

>Some kids have dogs that followed them home on the way back from school. You have a robot. It's not threatening you in anyway, it just keeps following you where ever you go.

>A summer heat wave means that no one is out of doors at midday for anything. Except your neighbors. Their routine went unnoticed before but now its regularity feels ...unnatural. How do the kids deal with this and a lack of ice cream money?

>On a school trip to the Loop, one of your friends slips under the chain of a sectioned off hallway. The kids have to find him and get him back before the teachers notice he, or any of you, are gone.

>The local pool was completely drained of water and the local skate park was completely filled with water. No one is happy. The kids want to know how and why. And possibly to seek revenge.

>Prank war at school backfires as a backpack was found with a stolen industrial laser in it. Now all of the backpacks are going to be searched. Find ways to safely ditch your prank war stuff before you get caught.

>A troll moved in under the bridge. Okay, it's probably not a troll, but there's something living there now. The last time the river rose there was that dead hobo. This time the river rose and whatever was down there survived being submerged for a whole week.

>Kids dig up a time capsule from the year 2015. It's 1986.

>VCRs all across the town stop flashing 00:00 and now are counting down from 78:20.

>Your friend's dad just bought one of those new personal computers and all your friends want to see it and use it to play games on. When someone downloads a weird hide-and-seek game from a scratched up floppy disc, the computer gets up and walks out of the house. Find it before it or you get in trouble.

>The road trip is fun but this desert you're traveling through seems endless. There's nothing to see, the roads are completely straight, and you're bored of playing cards. You keep passing by this one type of retro looking rest stop that you stopped at when you entered the desert. Now that you guys are stopping for dinner there, you swear the stop has the same eight or so employees working there as the first one at the beginning of the desert. Then you realize the bathrooms have the same exact graffiti in the same exact places.

>Blizzard kicks up in the middle of a winter sleepover. It's getting too cold in the basement so you all haul your stuff up in the middle of the night. Your parents are missing. There are no footprints in the fresh snow leading away from the house, only leading to the house.

>Haunted House set up during Halloween is fun but not scary until you realize the automatons in the house are actually bleed and the human workers outside do not. Then it's scary but not fun.

>A visiting scientist gives a lecture at your school and you could swear he looks exactly like the founder of your town from 50 years ago. You should know. You just did a research report on him.

>Your older brother comes home from a college internship at NASA. Everyone is so proud of him. You're stuck wondering why he gets all of the attention yet no one notices he's still in a space suit.

>In the basement there's a subbasement accessible by trap door. It's a cool hangout spot until you find another trap door in there.

>In the middle of a construction zone, the rain washes away enough dirt to reveal the face of an Eastern Island head.

>The scrapyard dog is really mean and vicious. They say it has to do with the fact that it doesn't have a tail to wag anymore. But you've seen its tail. It uses the tail to plug itself into the scrapyard power supply as it sleeps.

>Spring is here and love is in the air. You need to either reconcile your huge crush on the machine on the roof of the school or get to it and confess your feelings before the other boys do.

>In your obsession over the latest Star Wars movie, you try to find all of the material on it you can. You dig up some ancient looking betamax tapes that are hand labeled Star Wars. The visual effects are impressive, but the plots to these prequel movies are really dull. No wonder no one knows about them.

>You've been told not to play by the army base, but as a kid you just naturally gravitate over there. While playing catch your favorite ball sails over the the barbed wire on top of the chain linked fence. It's okay, you luckily find a hole in the fence hidden by a bush and large enough to crawl through. You can even see your ball right on the other side. But when you stick your head halfway through, it's as dark as night and your ball is nowhere to be seen.

>Flu season is here. You've just recovered from it and your friends have too, but the school is still half empty. In the middle of a study hall video, the TV sneezes. Not the person on screen. The TV.

>Every Tuesday morning at 9:23 in a clearing by the lake, five robots come from all different directions and stand in a circle for ten minutes. They then disperse in five other directions. No one knows where they come from or where they go. No one has successfully tracked any of them down.

>There's a crack in the sky that no adult seems to notice. If you hike up one of the nearby mountains, you can actually reach out and touch it.

>All the animals from the zoo have gone missing. Wherever they are, they’re currently pirate broadcast over channel 3 news and exposing everyone’s dirty secrets.

>The Library mac has access to a drive nobody recognizes containing files nobody can read; they look somewhat like blueprints. The weird kid from school has been printing them all out.

>Kids have been finding meteorites everywhere after last friday’s meteor shower. For some reason, the crazy cat lady down the road has been buying them off everyone she can find.

>Ever since that new pop song has been playing on radio, house pets have started acting like humans, and humans have been acting like animals.

>Dad’s been acting funny ever since he got a job at that new plant, the one that’s slowly turning the ocean red.

>There's a shipwreck out in the bay that you can walk up to during low tide. Something has taken up residence in its sealed upper cabin.

>Your elderly neighbor has a mouse problem he wants your help taking care of. As you wait patiently by the mouse hole, you see tiny green lights in the dark. His mouse problem is that they're off their programming and seem to have gone feral.

>Sally confides in you that she might have started her period for the first time. As you go to the bathroom to figure out what to do, you realize she's not bleeding, she's leaking coolant. Turns out, when she got "the talk" from her parents, she also received a set of blueprints.

>You play fetch with your new neighbor's dog. It's a little weird, but you haven't seen every dog breed so you're not sure how fancy they get. The double row of plates standing up on its back is very fancy.

>Fire drill at school. As you wait outside, you watch biohazard trucks and men in containment suits drive up and run inside. You realize your best friend is missing, but he came into school today...

>The bus driver stops the bus and opens the door. You step out and you recognize that it's definitely your school building, but definitely not where your school normally is. What's it doing on a cliff?

>There's a flock of sheep by the school tended to by a local shepherd. Several of his sheep are robotic hounds in wool sweaters.

>Play soccer in the local park. Every time you look at the two goals, they seem to have moved a little. No one else notices. Finally out of the corner of your eye, you see little wheels come out and shift the goals around.

>At the local train station, trains pulling in don't stop, and trains resting at the station never seem to leave, but adults use this train station every day.

Some of Simon's art is like a photgraph of home but different.

Given that's probably because he actually works with photo manipulation a whole bunch and because we live in the same place, but still.
