Jokes on you, that's my kind of waifu in games. in shadowrun my last character waifued a .11 essence street Sam and brought her back from the tipping point on cyberpsycosis. It was a ton cooler than the more obvious waifu bait waitress he threw the party's way and lead to some great character moments between them.

Even got a happy ending with her, something that's not a common feat in the setting.

It depends on how they go about it. As a means of developing their character and have it add to the story and a way to give the character more depth and maybe something to fight for? I'll allow and even encourage it. Date nights and what have you are done off screen during down time unless otherwise appropriate.

As a way to magical realm the game or fetishes bate? The NPC in question dies a fiery, tragic death and the player characters are blamed/framed for the death.

Either way, I get a plot hook or side arc out of the NPC.

Depends on the situation.
Last campaign had a childhood friend of a PC who he decided to waifu.
I let him because the characters had chemistry and common ground.
In my current campaign a player is trying to waifu the warrior princess of an enemy nation despite the fact they captured her and that the whole campaign is about the PCs trying to kill her dad.
That one isn't going to work out.

The BBEG in a d20 modern game had outsmarted the players, and left then clueless (despite having literally all the answers written down, but w/e), and after they thought they had killed his almost sociopathic commander, the standard "cold and calculating evil woman" type, they meet her in a grocery store.

Last time I played as a really old priest of the raven queen and I briefly mentioned in his background that during his travels he once had a thing with a priestess of pelor. It lasted for about as long as it took to save a village from a necromancer and they both decided that their callings made a family life impossible and they parted ways.

Campaign died before the dm had a chance to do anything with it though. It would have been cute for my geezer priest to be adventurin' and then suddenly recognise his lost love though.

This went better than expected for our group one time.

fem cleric, male druid, male fighter, and one dm npc fem rouger/ranger that was originally just going to be a pretty quiet person who filled out the party and was good at skill checks the rest of the players weren't good at. Wasn't really planning on characterizing them much.

Over the course of the campaign the cleric asked their opinion a lot and went through personal risk to save them and help them, and I fleshed out the character on the fly to respond to these things and made her have a background and her own interests and stuff.

eventually the cleric was spending a lot of time with them and would share the loot and bought her some plot relevant gifts that could have gone to herself and stuff like that so they became friends and then eventually they had a cute crush on each other, which is where we're at not in the campaign.

The good part though is that the players are keeping it realistic and not being cringey about it, in fact it's pretty reasonable the way it has developed, so I approve.

I like to think I'm a pretty good player. I have flaws, but I try to keep aware of them. Some sessions I'm talkative, some sessions I'm not.

I tend to get past the female part of the NPC before I waifu them, that's not the issue. It's more 'the female NPC that pulls out a grenade launcher and starts shooting at gangsters,' or 'the female NPC that our fighter takes on in an arena match that actually manages to fight him to a standstill.' Those, those are the NPCs that I instantly desire and want to chase - it's an overpowering urge that is hard to keep down, even when the GM has made it clear that he is not interested in romance plots.

I don't know why, but it happens every single time - a female NPC is awesome enough, they get my attention, I want them bad. To the point where spaghetti is dribbling out of my pockets and I can't help but slip my feelings even when I know what I'm doing and am trying to hold back.

Stick hard to fade to black rules and make it clear when the PC is not NPC's type but other than that roll with it while keeping it light. It at least means the PCs are getting invested in certain characters, and afterwards you know which NPC that player will want to take plot hooks from even if you don't shake a big bag of money at them first.

Ravenloft. A female NPC was a very distant relative of Van Ritchten (Ravenloft's version of Van Hellsing) who specialized in hunting lycanthrops. She was a reliable contact for the party in case they needed special weapons/supplies. One player decided he wanted his character to romance her.

I allowed it because the player also wanted to take a feral template for his character. The NPC concocted a potion that could cure the lycanthrop curse/virus, which the player's character became infected with. However, the potion only partially worked story-wise, giving him the feral template he wanted rather than full on lycanthropy.

I embrace it and make that waifu NPC more available for screen time (within reason). Even if it's for a stupid reason like how they make your dick feel, being attached to characters makes players more invested in general. More invested players make for more fun, I find. I tend to plant NPCs as potential waifus/husbandos for this very reason. Even when that NPC isn't in a scene, the player that is attached to them has something personal to ground them in the story, more personal and active than backstory. Plus, it makes it more satisfying to off the NPC if you know a player has a huge crush on them.

In my current game, half the party bit onto a particular NPC. Two characters were completely boner'd up for her while the other three liked her so much that the entire party asked me to add her as a permanent DMPC. It adds intrigue beyond just saving the made up universe and drama beyond killing monsters and making money. And it'll add even more when I get bored of playing her and have some bad guy murk her ass.

One of my players, a old as fuck Dwarf engineer, fell in love with the queen of a werewolf kingdom.
I never ever played with the tought of a romance sparking there.
The party accompanied her on a Wyvern hunt and (My setting's werewolves are kind of like the humans of Monster Hunter), almost as a joke, the Queen said that she would give the Dwarf a date if he struck the killing blow.
I knew it was almost impossible, since we had a Sniper, a Fighter and another fuckhuge Werewolf Barbarian that would probably take the monster quickly.
against all odds, the fucking dwarf kills the Dragon with a Tackle ala kid Goku v/s Piccolo mixed with a bit of Ralph Wiggum.
From then on i had to deal with a romance between a 50something human years Werewolf widow Jarl and a 120+ on his last decade Dwarf engineer.
It's been awkward but fun....

Be glad the players have something to care about other than themselves. Now the stakes are different, now what can be taken away matters because if they don't protect it, then it will be destroyed. If you can get all these NPCs in one place? Well, wouldn't just be terrible if that place got attacked?

Seems as if the majority of these players are forgetting to allow for the cultural and religious beliefs of their respective settings.
"Respectable" potential partners will expect the characters to conform to the socially acceptable behaviours appropriate to their social level, eg proper courtship rituals, parental permission, chastity until marriage, no marriage until character can demonstrate reliable income to support a family, agreeing to stop adventuring, etc.
Less respectable ones will be more concerned with avoiding censure for not following the expected morals, whilst the disrespectful will only be worried about more serious consequences...

For some reason she finds those to be specialy attractive, it's the childish "I want what I can't have" kind of attitude that I really don't know how to deal with, because otherwise she's a good player, but gets really annoying at the whole flirting with NPCs thing.

Well I mean a guy and a woman having kids leads to four possible outcomes based on which chromosome from which parent the kid gets. Since they get one from each, and the female parent can only give an X chromosome, and the Male parent gives either an X or a Y chromosome, the odds of being a guy or a girl are 50%. I at least know that much.

With the parents only having X chromosomes, you'd never be able to have a son.
